Magic is afoot. Magic is alive. Alive is a foot forward on a board. Science is magic. Magic is science. Bataleon Snowboards are scientifically magic. The magic of snowboarding comes in many forms. First turns, face shots or landing something first try. Pale morning light on the powdery drive or après golden hour with a round of friends, belly-scratching corduroy carves or laid out backflips. These are slices of snowboarding’s magic.
At Bataleon Snowboards we use the science of Triple Base Technology to make riding a snowboard more magical. Our three-dimensional designs produce boards with supernatural characteristics. We have the utmost experience in the three-parameter plane of shaping in the snowboarding industry. We’ve been shaping our Triple Base Design for over thirteen years. We believe—and we can prove with science—that the alchemy of our boards is nothing short of wizardry.

TRIPLE BASE TECHNOLOGY It’s more than a little base uplift. We’ve put thirteen years into creating the perfect blends of sidecut, camber, materials, flex and overall shape into Triple Base Technology (3BT). We’ve studied the ways a snowboard handles a rider’s movement and its reaction with the snow in many ways. Our custom concoctions are something completely unique in the world of snowboard building.
A Whole New Breed Triple Base Technology is all about blending the benefits of camber and rocker into a design that actually works. 3BT divides the nose and tail into three sections: a sidebase section on the toeside, a centerbase section and a sidebase section on the heelside. The toeside and heelside base areas are gradually uplifted starting outside of the binding area. The total uplift distance and angle starts at zero under the bindings and gradually increases towards the widest points of the board. This design produces remarkable changes in the way the board rides. The board keeps a full tip to tail camber backbone so it has loads of pop, suspension and control. The tips further boost pop since their concavity focuses and amplifies ollie pressure. Turns are easier, edge-to-edge transitions are swifter and edge hold is more solid. The angled sidebases generate the playfulness, forgiveness and less edge catch that rockered designs are praised for. The boards haul ass because when pointed straight there is less edge drag in the snow slowing you down. The hull shaped nose acts like a ship in powder, planing and floating on top. The benefits are unreal, really. Enough from us just try it and you’ll see.
6
3. Extra Tip Uplift
3
The amount of base uplift increases dramatically after the effective edge. This draws on ship hull design and creates a planing surface with incredible float in powder, which also helps the board cut through rough terrain.
3
2. Uplift From Bindings To Widest Point
2
Sidebase uplift gradually increases outside of the bindings to the contact points. The gradual rise creates smooth transition zones for turning and buttering and the raised contact points makes the board less susceptible to edge catch.
2
1. Stable Centerbase
1 7
There is no base uplift under or between the bindings. This creates a stable area of control underfoot.
1
HOW TRIPLE BASE WORKS Triple Base Technology is based on a three-dimensionally shaped nose and tail. Both are divided into three sections: a toeside base section, a center base section and a heelside base section. The base sections are slightly uplifted, similar to a skateboard’s concave. The subtle uplift creates a dramatic effect in how the board rides. Turn initiation is easier and swifter. When fully laid into a turn the board’s entire effective edge forms a complete arc with the snow surface, providing unparalleled edge hold. The uplifted sidebases make the board forgiving so there is no chance of random edge catch. When pointed straight there is less edge drag, so the board accelerates faster and maintains speed.
The hull-like tips have inherent buoyancy and planing characteristics for maximum powder float. The tip shape further boosts pop since their concavity focuses and amplifies ollie pressure. With full tip-to-tail camber down the center, the design maintains all the performance and control traits of a traditional camber board like pop, power, and suspension. At the same time the angled sidebases generate the playfulness, forgiveness and reduced edge catch that rockered designs are praised for. The genius in 3BT is that it combines camber and rocker characteristics into a unique shape that really works.
Flat
Turn Initiation
On Edge
When riding flat-based only the centerbase section is on the snow so the board travels fast and straight with no hooky movement or edge catch.
With a tiny amount of pressure and angle, the sidebases start to engage near the bindings, but the pressure remains constant along the contact edge.
When on edge the 3D shaped sidecut forms a complete arc with the snow, offering unparalleled and powerful edge hold.
Loaded and Lifted Under the weight of the rider the camber is loaded, but the edges are lifted at the tip and tail contacts points. It’s like camber and rocker at the same time. 8
TRIPLE BASE ADVANTAGES
Edges create friction, hold heat and don’t hold wax—all of which slow you down. 3BT boards accelerate faster and maintain speed when pointed straight since the lifted sidebases have a shorter total edge contact and reduce drag. This helps you coast along cat tracks faster, clear jumps and pass skiers on powder days.
The uplifted edge at the contact points reduces the chance of edge catch. The sidebase lift at the contact points disperses pressure evenly along the edge, therefore allowing for a smoother, more controlled ride. This also makes the tips more forgiving for butters and more lenient on less-than-perfect landings.
The shaped tips boost the pop power of positive camber. When the tail (or nose) is flexed and compressed for an ollie the forces are directed towards the centerbase of the tail (or nose) and amplified. This gives added spring to the boards powerful camber backbone.
The hull-like tip shape has inherent floating, planing and plowing properties similar to a boat or progressive surfboard shape. The shape allows the front to rise out of soft snow, and also makes it easier to sink the tail, offering a more comfortable riding position in deep snow.
When laid on edge, the uplifted edge and base sections form a more cohesive arc and contact with the snow surface. A smooth and secure arc means more powerful turns. As the board is rolled side-to-side in turns, the edge uplift offers a more fluid transition from edge-to-edge, too. This makes slower turns easier, faster turns more solid, and carving full circles in corduroy more complete.
The 3BT tips and contact points are less likely to dig and catch on landings. Reduced edge bite at the tips allows the board to automatically track back to going straight, meaning you can ride away from not-so-perfect landings rather than eating shit.
Freestyle riding is more flexible. The flat centerbase offers a large area to lock in presses and the edge uplift naturally glides through kinks, wallrides, boxes, transitions and jibs without hanging up. The beveled tips have less drag and generate a smoother glide up and down transitions while still maintaining control. This means faster, smoother and more predictable takeoffs and landings.
3BT shaping gives every board universal benefits. Even the hulllike tip shape of a jib board will still float better than a flat one in pow. All our boards profit from the increased edge hold of uplifted edges. And we’re pretty sure a more forgiving board is more fun to ride for all, too.

Twin Pow 3BT
Flavor is style. Style has flavor. Choosing a 3BT flavor means determining your style. While 3BT boards are more universal than regular snowboards, we’ve created specific shapes to better match different riding styles. So, will it be chocolate, vanilla or swirl?
Freestyle 3BT
11
Freeride 3BT
Pow 3BT
A team favored when it comes to all mountain freestyle riding. With the sidebase and centerbase equally wide this flavor is easily the most versatile 3BT we make. It enables a powerful and reactive ride with freestyle tendencies and powder float.
This flavor is a directional 3BT which features a narrow centerbase and more sidebase uplift area. With more angle in the nose than in the tail this 3BT is optimized for backseat steering, high-speed traction and maximum powder float. Expect quick edge-to-edge transfers and quick powerful carves.
Designed with deep days in mind our most directional Pow 3BT features a narrow centerbase and wide angled sidebases with Accentuated tips. This 3BT will keep you floating no matter how deep it is and allows you to downsize your powderstick.

BASE TECH The base is important because it’s the direct connection with the snow and delivers speed as well as protection from impacts. Bataleon uses industry leading German-made bases from ISOSPORT. We select bases to match the riding style, terrain and cost of our boards. All our boards are finished with a proper hot wax before they leave the factory.
NANO SPEED S The fastest base money can buy. This is what spandex-clad race dudes have on their ski boards. No joke.
HYPER GLIDE S Our standard sintered base that’s tough and fast, and faster when waxed.
EXTRUDED HTP This extruded base is like our Super Slick X, but more transparent to let those base graphics shine.
12
ULTRA GLIDE S Maximum molecular content for a hardened base that hauls ass. More molecules mean a denser base that can take a beating.
SUPER SLICK X Not a basic extruded base. It has the highest molecular content available for an extruded base. That means it’s super slick, durable and maintenance-free.
GLASS FIBER The type and placement of fiberglass greatly influences a board’s flex and riding characteristics. Boards are built with a layer of fiberglass atop and below the core. We use a combination of two main types of fiberglass: biaxial and triaxial. Biaxial fiberglass has fibers running every 90 degrees. Triaxial fiberglass has fibers running every 45 degrees.
BI AX LAMINATE Our traditional and time-tested two-way weave of fiberglass, made light, strong and responsive.
BI AX PLUS Our very own special blend of biaxial fiberglass. It’s lighter, stronger and more responsive than traditional biaxial fiberglass.
TRI AX LAMINATE Our traditional and time-tested three-way weave of fiberglass, made light, strong and responsive.
TRI AX PLUS Our very own special blend of triaxial fiberglass. It’s lighter, stronger and more responsive than traditional triaxial fiberglass.
WOOD EXTRA CORE LAYUP The wood core is the soul of the board. The type of wood, the grain orientation, and the overall thickness and shaping greatly determines the way it rides. We use a number of high quality woods sourced from local forests to create our wood cores.
VERY LIGHT CORE A featherweight blend of Swiss paulownia and poplar woods with a noticeable weight difference you can feel underfoot. It’s supported by with carbon fiber and Kevlar additives in the layup to make it super strong for high speed, high consequence riding.
REACTOR CORE Full poplar with beech hardwood running tip to tail along the edges to improve the board’s all-mountain riding characteristics. Beech is stronger than poplar and fortifies the board’s sidewall and edges against impacts while also generating more precise edge hold, pop and response along the edges.
CORE CORE Full poplar with beech hardwood laid tip to tail along the inserts to enhance the board’s jib, jump and freestyle riding attributes. The added beech hardwood strengthens the board’s backbone and puts out potent pop while still offering a comfortable lateral flex. 13
REACTOR BAMBOO Full poplar with bamboo along the rails from tip to tail. The bamboo strengthens the board’s sidewalls and edges against impacts while distributing smoother and stronger edge hold. Bamboo is buttery and snappy at the same time, just like the turns and pop it generates.
CORE CORE BAMBOO Full poplar wood core with bamboo laid tip to tail along the inserts to improve the board’s jib, jump and freestyle riding performance. Bamboo is a strong yet light addition that produces powerful pop and a stable backbone without disrupting the board’s silky smooth lateral flex.
We use additional materials to improve specific riding traits of our boards. A small sliver of carbon fiber or Kevlar can make a significant difference in how a board performs. By positioning thin strips of carbon fiber and/or Kevlar we can fine-tune the flex, pop, edge hold, response, dampening and add an extra layer of awesomeness to the ride.
CARBON STRINGERS Carbon is feather light and adds explosive pop, precise edge control, reactive response and smooth dampening to a board. It is used in different ways to fine-tune a board’s ride characteristics.
BASALT STRINGERS Basalt is explosive rock power from the earth’s core. Like carbon and Kevlar, basalt is strong, light, snappy and more affordable.
CARBON KEVLAR Kevlar can stop a speeding bullet and also make your snowboard lighter and snappier in similar ways as carbon. It is used in different ways to fine-tune a board’s ride characteristics.
SIDE WALL The board’s edges absorb a lot of impact and transfer a lot of energy and the sidewalls play an important role in this. Sidewalls seal and strengthen a board, and can also influence the way it rides, too.
RUBBER CORK This high-end blend of ABS rubber and cork creates a dramatic difference in dampening, suspension-like edge hold and resists cracking upon impact.
SOLID WALLS The go-to material for flex, weight savings and durability along the edge.
TOP SHEET The topsheet is not just a pretty place for graphics it also influences the flex and feel of the board. We are proud to not use any toxic lacquer on our topsheets, which saves weight and is healthier for the environment and our skilled board builders.
WOOD VENEER Wood veneer adds a natural graphic touch and also provides and added layer of support, flex and control.
PLT TOPSHEET
This finishing method means applying the topsheet after the board is pressed. This gives the board an ultra slick finished look, and because the topsheet is pre-pressed it allows us to fine-tune the board’s final flex pattern.
14
DYNACORK TOP A blend of cork and polymers that adds dampening, better underfoot feel and a luxury ride.
We Got Your Back! We stand by our boards. Every Bataleon snowboard is handmade in Austria and backed by a 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects. If you register your board it will make the warranty process smoother should any warranty issues come up.
Tips for Tuning 3BT boards can be waxed and scraped just like any other snowboard. When it comes to heavier work like stone or base grinding, we recommended that it be done by hand or with a machine with 3 different rollers. Although the base has uplift, there are actually 3 flat sections so they can be ground evenly.

The One is built with everything we’ve ever learned from board design and represents the best all around snowboard imaginable. Even as a prototype it made the podium at several banked slalom events and instantly became a team favorite. It employs our highest-grade materials in a shorter, wider and slightly tapered shape that can be ridden 3-4 cms shorter than your normal board. It holds the lightest core we make and has a knack for soft snow and soulful turns, but it can still smash anything from tracked out pow to late season slush.

The ETA was developed with Ethan Morgan for stomping big landings. It’s essentially the Evil Twin sculpted with a special 3BT asymmetric twin shape. Because applying power on your heel edge (no hyphen) is different than applying power on your toe edge (no hyphen) we put a different 3BT uplift on each side. This creates a uniquely balanced riding experience. Since the board maintains a twin shape and sidecut, unlike other asymmetric boards, it’s more comfortable riding regular and switch. This is a next level 3BT shape that lets you hit the park with power and carve like a madman all with just one board. Scientifically magic!

The Magic Carpet redefines the term twin tip and gives new meaning to the word freestyle. Its unique shorter, wider shape generates quick turns, yet it has lenty of sidecut length for high speed stability. The bloated tips and progressive 3BT Twin Pow shaping add float meaning powder days can be park days and vice versa. It’s weaved with carbon fiber strips in the nose and tail and triaxial plus fiberglass throughout for jet engine like loft and race car control. The positive camber profile combined with the progressive shape makes this a futuristic ship that will change the way you rip forever.

The inevitable heat death of the universe is coming so you better log those snowy park laps before you’re riding the plastic slopes of hell at a religious compound in West Virginia. But seriously, the Global Warmer is made for hot park laps with a twin, wide, stable shape, fiery pop and unique flex that’s soft tip-to-tail, but boosted by horizontal slabs of carbon fiber underfoot.

Jaeger Bailey rides the Disaster
62
Photo: Kyle Beckmann
Jaeger Bailey switch backlippin’ through some heavy kinks on his Disaster.
The Disaster crushes it in both the park and the streets. Its wide mid-section is stable on jibs and 3BT base uplift in the tips makes it nearly impossible to catch your edge. The softer flex is easy to twist into an array of jib tricks while the added tip to tail beech-wood stringers help pop proper ollies and work like suspension for those flat landings.

Why drop your Mini–You off at daycare when you can take them shredding? Learning to snowboard shouldn’t be harder than it needs to be either. Cinch them to the edge-catch- free 3BT Minishred and they’ll be linking turns in no time. You’ll be surprised to see your kid riding on edge since it’s super easy to initiate turns at low speeds. With more confidence thanks to 3BT’s forgiving properties they will stay out longer and progress faster than you ever did.

When pushed hard, it pushes back with powerful ollies and edge control driven by the hardwood stringers and basalt fiber additives. It’s our most dynamic board in the line and its slight tapered outline delivers a comfortable ride. The Freestyle 3BT shaping offers floatation in deep snow and stability when sending it. If you are looking to push the boundaries of your all mountain snowboarding then look no further.

Made for female shredders who view the mountain with a freestyle eye. The Distortia’s medium-flex and Twin 3BT shaping makes for easy butters and minimal edge catch. When you lock your eyes on a transition the beech wood stringers and carbon fiber strips underfoot will load up ollies like a high dive diving board.

3BT SURF
It turns out Triple Base Technology has some slick hydrodynamic properties for non-frozen water. Since the day legendary surfboard shaper Bill Stewart showed us his hand-built three-dimensional snowboard creation from 1981 we’ve shared our passion for “out of the box” 3D shaping. Over the last few years we’ve collaborated with Bill and have begun producing unique surfboards with 3BT shaping elements. Enjoy the best of Bill’s shaping and Bataleon’s 3BT features and be ready to taking your surfing to the next level just like our snowboards did for your snowboarding.
86
THE ONE
CAMEL TOE
The one for pulling into barrels and laying out open face carves. The unique curvature of the 3BT SURF bottom reduces drag and lets you set up for the barrel early. Bill shaped it with the widest point of the board slightly forward, which gives you extra paddle power and confidence riding bigger waves and taking off deep. The One easily replaces your step up board and works in a wide range of conditions, making it the ultimate travel board.
This wet Camel Toe is built for speed and agility. The secret lies in the 3BT SURF angled side bases in the nose that allowed Bill to shape a wider nose and flatter rocker profile. This keeps the board from digging rail and hanging up. Both the wider nose and flatter rocker give it swifter paddle power and insane drive through flat sections. Whether you started surfing this summer or have been in the water for decades, you’ll get the most out of every session. The Camel Toe will work in a wide range of conditions and it easily holds up to head high surf. Surf it thruster for a more vertical top to bottom approach or set it up quad for maximum drive.
