1. How long have you been working at Mervin? About 25 years (I took some time off when my son Liam was born to be a house dad, it was rad!) 2. What does Mervin Made mean to you? Mervin has been like a family to me over the past 25 years. When you have the opportunity to build boards with a group of friends that you have known for over half of your life some pretty incredible things happen to the design and manufacturing process that are built into every single board that leaves our shop. That’s what Mervin Made is to me. 3. What makes for the ultimate adventure rig and planning? When I’m not at work I am often designing and building unique vehicles for camping/travel adventures. To me the ultimate adventure vehicle is mechanically simple, sturdy, can handle all climates from mountains to deserts and is easy to repair on the road. My advice for anyone planning a trip is to keep it simple and just go! Make sure you have some basic tools and an understanding of the vehicle you choose. Try not to over plan things, it’s still and adventure right? Often leaving is the hardest part then everything starts to work out as the miles pass. Performance hybrid bottom contours engineered for snowboarding. Snowboarding is done with two feet on one board in a sideways stance. Banana Technology combines mild rockers between your feet with varying amounts of camber to the contact points to maximize edge contact, control and hold in a sideways stance. The rocker brings to life the middle of your board that, with traditional ski camber is a low pressure “dead zone”, while also adding float, improving carving and power. 1. How long have you been working at Mervin MFG.? I started working with Mike Olson on Gnu in a little horse barn as his “abrasive technician” outside of Seattle in the early eighties. We spent our late teens and early twenties doing every step of production on every Gnu as we developed modern geometries, refined our manufacturing process, learned about materials and built Gnu into something magically radical. 2. What makes the GNU contours work? We have over 4 decades of riding, hands on board building and design, experimentation on our Gnu design team. We build boards for ourselves, the world’s best freeriders and competitive champions. We are experienced… we create and play with snowboard design like Jimi Hendrix plays guitar. Every Gnu contour is a refined energy distribution system that integrates a blend of cambers and rockers into the overall board geometries and construction creating a pressure distribution structure targeted at a specific chosen rider and terrain usage. We bring the entire board and edge to life, maximize riding ease and efficiency with a section of ROCKER (positive curve) between the feet combined with very specific performance, power and pop defining CAMBER (reverse curve) from under foot to the tip and tail. BTX Hybrid is our easiest riding, easy carving, playful catch-free freestyle rocker dominant hybrid ride that also to floats powder magically well. The C2 Hybrid group is rocker dominant and features more aggressive cambers at the tip and tail. C2 is extremely versatile providing amazing power, pop, and hardpack carving and that extra float that only rocker a dominant contour can provide. C2 works for a wide variety of riders, ablity levels, terrain and conditions and is the choice of Gnu master radicals Max Warbington, Blake Paul and many others. C3 is our Camber dominant contour with a subtle hint of reverse curve between the feet that evenly distributes edge pressure maximizing carving and float while maintaining the power, pop and tip to tail control that a camber dominant power riders love. C2 is the choice of Temple and Cannon Cummins, Jamie Anderson on her Pro Choice competition model and Street and ATV master radical Forest Bailey. 3. Like a fine wine, what makes for a perfect long lasting delicious wood core? I am a Port guy! Mike Olson always says wood is natures fiberglass and that plays a big part in how we choose our core materials. This brings up a key point that is integral to every Gnu…we build our own damn cores and boards. This hands on attention to detail is deliberate and critical because it allows us to experiment, learn and control what goes into every Gnu snowboard. Like farm to table or homegrown homecooked food we select premium materials and ingredients with the best performance qualities, least environmental impact and create the healthiest process and factory environment for our Gnu board building crew. The heart of every Gnu is our FSC certified sustainably grown and harvested Aspen central beam that carries the inserts and delivers, control pop and long life. What makes this wood special is that it grows quickly and has long strong fibers that run tip to tail in the board just like fiber glass strands…”natures fiberglass”. Depending on the desired ride and model we integrate varying amounts of ultra-light Paulownia wood into our cores selected again for its fast growth, sustainable harvest, long tip to tail fiber strands. We also integrate end grain balsa in a few of our premium models for an even lighter performance ride. All our cores are vertically laminated, milled and cut to exact specs for every model and size to provide the optimum ride, pop and board life. All our scrap wood is recycled into kindling or building materials and all our sawdust is composted back into soil at Anjo Soils in our Sawdust to Soil program. We love wood, we love building boards and shredding and have poured our hearts and lives into feeding this magical radical Gnu beast. You can actually ride one if you choose wisely.

1. Top three favorite milks? Oat, Oat & Hemp (The most climate friendly milks out there! Easy to make at home!) It’s the 2020s yo, there are no excuses to still be drinking cow juice if you are fortunate enough to have the choice! 2. List the names of as many animals as you can on the Warbington farm. June & Otter (dogs) Chompy (tortoise) Ryan (goose) Bucket (sheep) Tupac (barn cat) Lil spicy (finch) Mortaci (falcon) Onix, Herke, Imke, Lizzane, Jildow, Lena, Flash & Leo (horses). 3. Did having your board called The Finest motivate you to get in better shape? Will it work for others? The moment the Finest was introduced to my life, not only did my body shed fat and gain lean muscle, but my brain flipped into a hyper aware flow state of pure bliss. Things have just been working out perfectly. IDK for sure but the only explanation I have is the board. 4. Top five best worst movies of all time? Anything old and full of offensive and hurtful stereotypes and in your face racism. Some “classics” I think have done and are still doing a good amount of harm to people who identify a certain way. 5. The Finest is C2…why do you like that? C2 is the perfect camber profile for all types of riding I think. The banana in between your feet let’s you make “kick turn” style movements which I find absolutely key for mini shredding well as making quick movements on steep terrain. While the camber out to the tips gives you something to load up your pop and spring off of or lean into on a flat landing. It’s a board built to handle and be able to trick whatever you find in front of you. C2 rules! 6. What are you excited for this season? The Brain Bowl Sessions!! Temple 1. How long have you been riding GNU? I was 12 when I rode my first Gnu. 2. What board(s) do you ride, why do you love them? My main ride has been the 162 Billy Goat, it holds me together when I need it the most. The new Banked country has our favorite C3, Pro-Mag, Pow magic nose and Cannons art. The Banked Country is created for ripping all the natural Bumps that we see riding. Banked Country’s design is meant to attack those bumps with the most effective contours coming in to play on the approach and descent. Submerging, plaining and on rail back or front. 3. What have you learned from Cannon? Cannon has taught me that time goes fast.
Cannon 1. How long have you been riding GNU? I have been riding gnu pretty much my whole life, I remember riding a little mini Danny Kass board when I was a baby. 2. What board(s) do you ride, why do you love them? My favorite Gnu board so far has been the 4 by Forest Bailey. I liked it because it was a great all mountain board and worked in any condition I put it in. I love the shape of the new Banked Country, the diamond is so hot. Pro-Mag gives me really good control and that board makes the mountains feel like a smooth skate park. 3. What have you learned from Temple? I have learned so much from my dad. He has taught me how to snowboard, how to skateboard, how to surf, how to drive, that’s just a few things of many.

1. How long have you been riding GNU? I’ve been riding for Gnu for about four or five years. I just remember meeting Barrett at hood. Taking a few laps with her and being extremely nervous. Then she started sending me boards and that was the beginning of this beautiful relationship. 2. Tell us something you love about the Velvet? I love the Velvet because it’s playful yet still sturdy under my feet. You also can’t beat the amazing art by Hannah Eddy. I think she’s a wizard? Because I swear since she started doing the art my snowboarding got better! 3. What is your favorite part about filming for the Uninvited 2? My favorite part about filming for the Uninvited 2 was meeting one of my best friends for the first time, Ylfa Runarsdottir. Thanks to Jess she gave us an opportunity to work with girls from all around the country and world. It was such a special experience.
