Welcome to my list of webtools that don’t require student registration. This started off as a simple curation for myself and has ballooned into something that I never thought would get this big. And it is still growing. I started added comments to each link, but that is taking a long time to complete. Please bear with me as I update it. While I do try to verify each link on a regular basis, please be aware that websites do change and some of these sites may no longer be active or may have switched to a paid version. Also, some of these sites rely on advertisements and so be careful when using with younger students. To make it on this list, a site must be: 1. Free. There may be paid versions, but there is an option to use without paying. 2. Without the need for students to give their email address. Teachers may have to register, but there is an option for students to either sign-in or use without giving their own email address or log-in with their Facebook/Google/Twitter/etc. account. 3. For the most part, interactive or creative. The ideal tool allows the student to express themselves through creation, but some of these tools are for teachers only. 4. Completely online. There should be no need to install something to make it work. Some of these sites require things like Flash or Java which are on most desktop and laptop computers, but are normally not accessible on a tablet or phone. Over the next while, I will be adding labels to each of these to designate whether you can use this site without any registration at all or will need the use of a class code given by the teacher. Also, where I find the tool especially useful, I have also added some sites that need an email address, but can be used with a completely fake email address since the site doesn’t require you to verify your email address. QRcode business cards: Type in your information, choose an online image, and the site will create online business cards that you can download as a PDF file to print on Avery business card paper. People who can the card will have your information downloaded automatically to their contacts list. (★★)

ZXing Decoder Online: Decode QR codes online without a dedicated app. The QR code can be uploaded or found online. (★★★)

QR Code Scanner: Create a QR code from a URL and download the image. Decode QR codes online without a dedicated app. Images can be scanned using a webcam or images can be uploaded. (★★★★)

PollEverywhere: A nice, clean poll without ads. Can be multiple choice, free response, true/false, image, or discourse questions. Participants can use the website or can send by SMS. Limitations on the number of free polls or users without registering. See live results on the screen. Very nice site and simple to use. (★★★★★)

OneQstn: A simple multiple choice poll option with a clean button-type interface. There are no options to change the look or to have users add their own options. One of the easiest to use and doesn’t use Flash or Java so it works on basically any website including iOS devices and can be embedded almost anywhere. PollCode: This site provides a few additional functions such as multiple answers, colour, background, and font choices, as well as the ability to leave comments. People can also just view the results without giving an answer. The poll is hosted or can be embedded. One unique feature is the ability to use a dropdown menu instead of radio buttons. (★★)

Click2Answer: While not the prettiest poll. this site allows for users and administrators to get an email each time someone completes the survey. Participants can also add comments and all the answers and comments are presented in an easy-to-read chart. (★★)

Hanzo: This site allows some simple design choices as well as single or multiple votes. Results are given in a bar graph in percentage or numbers of votes. You can also set a start and end time for the voting. Easy and use and the poll can be embedded or hosted. (★★)

Flisti: This site allows for multiple answers and users can leave comments as well. Visitors can view the results without voting. It is hosted and can also be embedded. (h/t @rkiker) (★★★)

Poll Junkie: A clean, simple poll that allows for multiple choice, ranking, rating, and free text questions. You can set an expiration date, allow for comments, and download as a CSV. (★★★★)

Yarp: A very simple, yes or no type of survey. (★★)

Tally: Very simple, clean hosted poll creator. Users click on one or more answers and results are shown in the poll itself. Copy URL to share. No place to add text answers, but works on most devices. No ads. (★★★) (h/t @AnthipippiHarou)

scrumblr: This is an online sticky-note application that allows you to create columns to organize your notes. You can also categorize your notes using coloured dots and stars. (h/t @manssen) (★★★)

Board800: This is an online collaborative whiteboard that allows for multiple pages. Draw, write, or type on the page or an image. Share with others. It is good for 90 days. (★★★)

draw.to: A small, simple whiteboard that you can share with others or embed on your website. Draw, type, or write on the board and have others join in. (★★)
•
interactive illimitably: An interesting chat and drawing tool that includes some drawing games as well. Collaborate with others on a drawing. Text, draw, and apply layers. (★★)

FlockDraw: Draw, add text, and chat online with up to 10 people at once. Embed the drawing or save it your computer. (★★)
•
GroupZap: This is made up of a number of great tools including drag-and-drop images and files from your computer, drawings, coloured notes, and exporting and embedding. Add a custom background, reply a history of how the board was created, and more. An email address is needed to join, but since you don’t need to receive a registration email, a fake email account works just fine (something@something.com). Boards are only active for 7 days. Scriblink: Draw or write on up to 5 different pages. Share the link with others or save to your computer. Upload and draw on photos as well. Person who wants save the board needs to provide an email address. (★★★)

Padlet: One of the most well known of all of the stickynote sites. Add notes to a wall and others can go on and add theirs as well. The administrator needs to register with an email, but other can add without registration. Works well with tablets and phones. Here is my guide to it. (★★★★★)

CoSketch: Collaborate with others by drawing or typing on a whiteboard, image, or Google Map. Embed on your webpage as well. (★★★)

Twiddla: This is the most extensive of all the whiteboard tools here. You can annotate and draw on a whiteboard, Etherpad document, webpage, document, or image. Use audio including connecting with Skype and so much more. (h/t @rkiker) (★★★★)

Web Whiteboard: Create a simple post it whiteboard with multiple pens and pencils. Simple to set up and share. (★★★)

Smart Notebook Express: Different from most whiteboards in that it creates and uses Smart Notebook files that are used with Smartboards. It is an easy way to create a view Smart Notebook files when you don’t have access to the full Notebook software. Limited in usage, it is not meant to be collaborative, but can be used to share files. (★★)

Linoit: A robust corkboard / inboard that allows for multimedia items and has a navigation map. Requires registration, but students can use a fake email address. Also has mobile apps. No ads. Simple to use. (★★★★)

PDFescape: The most comprehensive of all the free online PDF tools. Create, read, and edit PDF documents. Create and fill in PDF forms all within your browser without needing to register. Some of the more notable tools including the ability to insert and remove pages from a PDF document, annotate and markup a PDF, as well as creating fillable forms. (★★★★)

FoxyUtils SplitPDF: There are four simple, yet effective, tools: split a PDF (remove a range of pages), merge PDFs (combine 2 or more PDFs into one document), unlock a PDF (in case you forget the password), protect a PDF (add a password and restrict usage). (★★)

PDFAmigo: Create PDF forms with a number of options and ways to customize the look of the page. Collect data via email. (★★★)
•
PDF Newspaper: Enter a webpage with an RSS feed and convert the last five posts into a nice looking PDF newspaper. Here is my guide to it. (★★★)

PDF to Word Online Converter: Upload a PDF and the site will convert it into a Word document without needing to install anything or provide and personal data. (★★)

PrintWhatYouLike: Enter a webpage URL on this website or use their bookmarklet and the site will grab the information from the website allowing you to remove what you don’t want before making it into a PDF to download and print. (★★★)

Online PDF Tools: Has a set of eight PDF tools including converting, merging, rotating, and unlocking PDFs. Some of the unique functions include creating a PDF flipbook and converting Instagram and Facebook photos to PDF (those two functions require your passwords). (h/t to @deewaker72) (★★★)

2ePub Converter: Converts 14 different types of documents, including PDFs, into one of four different ebook files. (h/t to @NMHS_Principal) (★★★)

Capture Webpage: Create an image or PDF from a webpage. If you select one of the image files, it will create one long image of the site instead of splitting into seperate files or only what can be viewed on the screen. Great way of capturing an entire page. (★★)

Witwall Tech: A super simply way of cropping a PDF online. Upload your own image or find one online. Create a preview, drag over the area you want to keep, and crop. Automatically downloads a cropped version. (★★)

I Love PDF: Extract, split, or merge PDFs quickly and easily. Even stores the finished files online for up to 1 hour. (★★★)

PDF Extractor: Extract images, fonts, and text from a PDF. Upload your own file or find one online. (★★★)

Print Friendly: This is one of the easiest and nicest ways of creating a clean PDF document of a webpage for printing. Select sections to delete and keep or remove images. Use the simple bookmarklet to access from any webpage. See my screencast on how to use PrintFriendly here. (★★★★)

Sciweavers: This is a series of online web applications inlcuding a number for PDFs. Merge, split, print, and extract images from PDFs. (★★★)

ChartGo: Create a bar, line, pie, or area graph in 2D or 3D. Options also include dimensions and orientation. Enter your data and you are then given a URL to edit and one to share. You can also embed the chart on your website or blog. Simple, yet nice looking results. (★★★)

Chartle: This site has the most options available including bar, pie, line, scatter plots, Venn diagrams, radar charts, organizational charts, tables, timelines, motion charts, gauges, and maps. Options for dimensions, data type, and either 2D or 3D shapes. Charts are hosted in the gallery or can be embedded on your website or blog. (★★★)

Piecolor: Create a piechart you can download. Very simple to use and can be in 2D or 3D. No hosting or embedding available. (★★)
•
Graph.tk: This is a mathematical graph creator. Type in your formulas and the graph is created automatically. Beautiful results that can be downloaded. No host or embed functions available. (★★★★)
•
Hohli: Create bar, line, and pie charts along with Venn diagrams, scatter plots and radar charts. Choose your chart size, colour, and add your data. The chart is hosted as an image, you can also download or embed to your website or blog. (★★★)

Kids’ Zone: Make a bar, line, area, pie or XY graph. Choose your shading and colour, add your data, labels, and fonts, and then download or email yourself the link. (★★★)

I Heart Venn Diagrams: Enter in the data for two or three circles including how much overlap and size of the circles. It creates the Venn diagram and gives you a url to the image which you can share or download. (★★★)

Classtools Venn Diagram: Choose either a two or three circle Venn diagram and then enter the data, title and notes. You cannot adjust the size or overlap. Download the HTML file or embed in your website. (★★★)
•
Good Labs: Create a very nice pie chart or two circle Venn diagram. Label your items, adjust the overlap by clicking-and-dragging, enter a title, and choose your colour. It makes a very nice infographic-style chart. You can also save the diagram in the public gallery. (★★★)

Fuel the Brain Venn Diagram: Choose a two or three circle Venn diagram and enter the labels. Add dots with initials to each circle. You can’t download or ember the diagram, but you can always make a screenshot. This works best on an IWB. (★★★)

Venny: Create a two, three, or four circle Venn diagram. Label your elements, add your notes, and then download the final image. (★★★)

ReadWriteThink Venn Diagram: Create a two circle Venn diagram, add labels and elements, and print out. You cannot save online or embed. (★★)

Online Chart Tool: Create up to ten different types of charts and download as an image, PDF, or CSV. (★★★★)

Plotvar: Create up to four different types of graphs and download as an image or PDF. (★★★)

Wordle: Probably the most popular site for creating word clouds and is one of the best for creating high-quality printable versions of the image. Paste in a text or put in a website URL and it creates a random word cloud. Change the font, style, colour and limit words. You can also check word counts as well. Print out as an image to save for later (if you have the capability of printing as a PDF, you can then print the cloud as large as you want without problems with losing quality). (★★★★★)

TagCrowd: Paste or upload a text or choose a website URL. Enter your criteria including word limitations and word counts, and create a square type word cloud that can be embedded or printed. The PDF download function didn’t work for me, but it may be just a temporary problem. (★★★)

Wispy.me: Grab text from Twitter or Facebook or paste in your text, choose your colour scheme and font, and create an instant word cloud. Save to a unique URL and then download the image to your computer or share with others. (★★★★)

ABCya! Word Clouds: This is a nice little word cloud generator designed for kids. It can’t handle larger texts (seems to have trouble beyond about 35 words), but the images are nice
and can be downloaded as a jpeg image file or printed. You do have some control of fonts, colour, and layout as well. (★★★★) •
WordItOut: This is the only word cloud generator listed here that needs an email address to save it. You can always do a screen shot or put in a temporary email address to get the file. You can paste text or get from a URL and create a word cloud with some control on font, colour, and layout. (★★★)

Jason Davies – Word Cloud Generator: A really nice and clean layout with lots of options for how the words or even sentences will be laid out. Download as an SVG or PNG: great for printing. (@PeterVogel mentions that it also works well with Chromebooks) (★★★★★)

MapMaker International from National Geographic: Overlay a number of different themes from water, land, and climate to population, political, and economic systems. Draw on the map and place a variety of different markers as well as use a measuring tool in kilometres or miles. Save as an XML or PNG file. Share with others via link. Works with tablets. (★★★★★)

National Atlas Map Maker: Create, save, and print US based maps using a number of layers including geographic, political, and historical. (★★★)

Hypercities: Overlay historical maps over current satellite views of a number of places around the world. (★★★★)

Flash Earth: View Bing and Yahoo maps on one site. Zoom and rotate. (★★)

Map Generator: Create a simple Google map with one marker and text that you can share or embed without needing to register. (★★)

Esri: Add a data overlay to a map based on US data such as age, income, and population. Embed or share a custom URL with comments. (★★)

Aardvark Map: Create custom Google maps that can be embedded or shared without registration. Add multiple points or add custom overlay sets. (★★)

OpenStreetMap: Created using data from users, OpenStreetMap is an alternative to Google maps where users can download images or data. (★★★★)

Quikmaps: Draw lines, scribble, and add markers with comments on a Google map without registration. Share the link or embed in your blog or website. (★★★)

Dual Maps: Combine Google maps, Streetview, and Bing maps as one map. Add Wikipedia and Panoramio layers as well. Embed on your website or blog. (★★★)

TravBuddy: Show a map with all the places you have visited in the world. Embed the map on your website or blog. (★★)

Roadtrip America: Create a road trip route with markers of things to do and see along the way. You are unable to save or print the map without registering, but you can always create a screenshot of the map to download. (★★)

MapFab: Draw, add markers and links, and share or embed a Google map without registering. (★★★)

MapFling: Search for a place and add markers and then share with others using a URL. (★★★)
Return to the Index Schedule •
When Is Good: This is the website has very few options, but it is also the easiest to use. Choose your time increments of 15, 30, 60 minutes or a whole day and then highlight the times you are available. Use the show options to make full use of the site such as a description or giving the page a custom URL before naming the site and creating the event. You will be given a code that you will need to see the results later on, so make sure you write it down. You will then be supplied with three URLs: one for sharing, one for the results, and one for editing the calendar. Others can then choose their times and provide comments and their name. (★★★)

NeedtoMeet: Create a schedule by giving it a name, length, location (optional map), and description. You are then given a daytimer type of calendar where you select all possible meeting times. You are then given a shared URL and an administrator URL. Users who go the shared URL can then select the time that is good for them. It also shows what choices have already need selected by others. (★★★★)
•
Meetifyr: This is the most feature-rich site of the three with the options to include extras such as a custom map. You first must provide information such as what it is (title) and where (the location). You can also provide a more detailed description if you would like. For the location, you can choose a map. You then choose your date or date range and copy the URL to share. (★★★★)
•
TymFinder: Give your meeting a topic, enter the time-zone, a range of days, a time range and increment, and attendees’ names and it creates an embeddable or printable time sheet. There is no option to vote online. (★★)
•
Doodle: Doodle uses a polling type design to find a time to meet together. You first need to provide the basic information such as title, place, description, and name (email is optional) before proceeding. You then select a day and time through a calendar or use the free text option. Finally, you can choose a number of options for the poll such as a single answer per person or limiting the number of choices. You are then given two URLs: one for sharing and the other for editing. SnappyWords: This is a visual dictionary and thesaurus that uses lines and arrows together with coloured circles to show connections between words. Double-click on other circles will show new connections. (★★★)

RhymeZone: Find words that rhyme, are synonyms, antonyms, definitions, and so much more. (★★★)

WebCorp: Use the web as a corpus. (★★★)
•
BibMe: Create citations for APA, MLA, Chicago, and Turabian using WorldCat. (★★★)

WordNet: An extensive corpus and text vocabulary and phrase analyzer. Find how often a word is used and in what context. Analyze vocabulary level of a text. (★★★★)

Compleat Lexical Tutor: While not the prettiest site in the world, Lexical Tutor provides a robust set of lexical tools for students, teachers, and researchers. (★★★★★)

Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA): Probably the most common corpus on the internet providing vocabulary text search within a wide variety of genres. (★★★★★)

Textalyser: A comprehensive text analysis tool. Easy to use with loads of data. (★★★★★)
•
WordHippo: A simple tool for finding synonyms, antonyms, and sample sentences. (★★★)
•
WORDCOUNT: A nice, clean tool for finding the frequency of a word in everyday usage. (★★★)
•
Readability-Score.com: Paste in a text or URL, upload a PDF, or use a bulk list to analyze text for readability. (★★)

PaperRater: A decent amount of text analysis for grammar, overuse of sentence or phrases, and other review information. (★★★★)

WordCounter: Ranks word usage for a pasted text. (★★)

Voyant Tools: A very nice tool for analyzing text using word clouds, graphs, and even a custom corpus. (★★★★★)

Frequency Level Checker : Another site that doesn’t look very nice, but works well. Paste in a text and compare vocabulary level for each word. Great for finding difficult words for language learners. (★★★★)

TitanPad: Realtime, collaborative document editing using a version of Etherpad that allows for private groups. Simple to use and no ads throughout the site. Documents can be downloaded as PDF, text, DOC, or HTML. Hosted in Germany. My guide to TitanPad is found here. (★★★★★)

Kl1p: Create a plain or rich text document online, upload documents or images, or make a list or sketch without registering. No ads. Set expiration dates. Share via unique URL or QR code. Clean and simple to use. My guide to Kl1p is found here. (★★★★★)

ShowDocument: Create and edit richt-text documents online in realtime with others. Use a whiteboard, annotate and draw over YouTube videos, and share your screen. No registration or ads. Text chat as well. Needs Adobe Flash, although there is a simplified Android app. (★★★★)
