PROJECT 1
For us to understand Salak Selatan, we need to understand what it is made of. Understand its texture and materials are crucial to develop critical design proposal. Each student to produce a series of material mapping in A4. Minimum three series of texture and material mapping per student totaling to 9 pieces per student.
Salak South A scheduled town Salak South is a village established in 1952, with generations of housing and commercial buildings are visible throughout the site. With buildings nature has aged as well throughout the site. A series of species and types of trees and plants are scattered around the site. These trees are very essential for the site as trees provide shading from sunlight. Vegetation serves several critical functions in the biosphere, at all possible spatial scales. First, vegetation regulates the flow of numerous biogeochemical cycles, most critically those of water, carbon, and nitrogen; it is also of great importance in local and global energy balances.
Diversity of Textures of Trees in Salak South The feeling of sitting under a shaded tree & comparing it to artificial shading is completely different. The atmosphere is completely different, which is still a mystery up to this day. There are various tree species in Salak South, these tree patterns are from the different types of species in a small amount of area. The species has completely different patterns and textures, this shows the diversity of trees in Salak South and gives it fresh air despite being located 15 minutes from Kuala Lumpur city center.
The various amount of trees and its species gave the feeling for Salak South being located far away from a metropolitan area. The feeling of sitting under a shaded tree & comparing it to artificial shading is completely different same goes as this diversity and amount of species gives the atmosphere of going back to kampung. From this I developed a plan for a biking route around this area as it provides interesting landscape and vegetation, The combination of the biking route with the landscape will have strong potential to bring people back into Salak South.
Conceptual Model
The model represents the face of the tree, This shows the aging process of a tree, from this we can understand how long this species has been in Salak South
PROJECT 2
Using what is being explored during P1,continuing with the same technique to impose your ideas into the larger urban map and negotiate with your peer’s findings. The overall outcome of this workshop is for all to share their findings together. Urban strategists are skilled in being able to see the ‘big picture’, synthesise large amounts of information, broker between project partners in complex environments, and provide clarity & direction to identify creative pathways towards implementation. To start the main design project of the semester, you will have to intensively explore urban strategy and building scale in paper. Paper collages and models allow a quick repetition and variation of ideas, as well as ongoing adjustments. You will have to produce a series of WORKS IN PAPER, to be able to produce two distinct pieces of work.

MODEL MAKING PROCESS
For our group conceptual model we combined our group’s project 1 ideas. From this we got to know what the landscape, massing and vegetation of the site. Our final model was made with a overlapping everyone’s project 1 study with certain materials
SITE MODELS The model shows concept of the landscape in a 1:2000 model. Materials used for the model vary for mosses for vegetation to bring out the atmosphere of the site.

The scale of the finale model is 1:1000, it help better understand the contour of the site, building masses and identifying empty spaces.
URBAN STRATEGIES CYCLING ROUTE What: -
Turning unused areas into used areas Providing cycling route for Salak South ISSUES
Where: -
Along Salak South from site 1 to site 4 Parks and jogging tracks around site 1 and 4
Why: -
Adding cycling route in Salak South will promote more people to come there and experience Salak South
How: -
Adding tracking along the existing road as space is very less in certain areas in forest areas, make parks with jogging & cycling tracks
-
Government owned land Weak infrastructure Transport system Illegal factories Weak drainage No facilities
URBAN STRATEGIES
PAVILIONS Throughout the cycling route pavilions would be used as resting points for bikers / cyclists. There are six pavilions in total Each pavilion would be representing the environment as using materials from the site to represent the site and attract people to come to Salak South

BUILDING STRATEGIES
This infographic shows main ideas to be brought into the final building. Ventilation and sunlight are the most important aspects as the site is filled with vegetation which can be very strong potential.
PROJECT 3
In today’s 21st century globalization, modern architectural design of dwelling, offices and places of consumption compete in creating the most unique and most groundbreaking designs. Buildings are no longer evaluated by its function. The Muse Design Award, for example, considers “that the best architecture shapes the spaces within and without, making a lasting statement that inspires while pleasing the senses, complementing our surroundings and cultural identities. As the world becomes more closely connected, the aesthetics of difference which foregrounds identity and locality becomes more prominent and urgent. The architectural history has seen paradigmatic shifts towards more locally embedded design. Since Frank Lloyd Wright, architects and designers have paid attention to the way buildings blend and connect to the surrounding natural and human environment. How do contemporary architectures embrace, experiment with, or embody localities and identities in response to the changing global environment
