Cannes As the third largest town in the region in demographic terms, after Nice and Antibes, Cannes offers a wide variety of tourist and cultural activities. With your feet dipped in the sea, Cannes is also a renowned seaside resort where the sun (practically) always shines. However, the town’s assets do not stop there. Its history gives it a characteristic identity. Le Suquet is the oldest district in Cannes (the old town). Perched as it is on a hilltop, the village was protected from invasion by sea. At its peak, the Eleventh Century castle provides a panoramic view of Cannes bay, together with the La Tour de la Castre and a church dedicated to sailors and fishermen. It is impossible to talk about Cannes without mentioning its famous Film Festival and the Palme d’Or, a veritable emblem of the town, but there are also the International Pyrotechnic Art Festival, the International Games Festival, the International Dance Festival, the Pantiero festival, the Cannes Golf Festival, the Cannes Shopping Festival, and the list goes on. The town has several museums, such as the Musée de la Castre (Castre Museum), the «Malmaison», the Musée de la Mer (Museum of the Sea), the Espace Miramar, La Villa Domergue...

‘La Tropicale’ Cannes
Description The story of ‘La Tropicale’ is steeped in a history as exotic as the site on which the property stands. lt was in 1879 that the firing of one hundred and one cannon shots signaled the arrival of Marie Alexandrovna, empress of Russia, and thus the grand era of the Russians on the Côte d’Azur was born. In 1890 the Prince and Princess Lobanov-Rostouky, close friends of the Romanov family, came to settle on the Côte d’Azur and, inspired by its exquisite natural setting, chose a residence high up on the hillside above Cannes. The location they selected offered not only the most prominent vantage point on the hillside with breathtaking views over the whole Bay of Cannes, the Lerins Islands and the Esterel Mounts, but also enjoyed a unique microclimate, where the combination of fertile soils and a sheltered location favored the growth of an abundant variety of exotic, tropical vegetation. The house was christened “La Tropicale” and for twenty years the Lobanovs remained, receiving not only their compatriots but all the fashionable “beau monde” of the period.
