Whistles’ Glam-Pack Four Ways To Justify Your Buy

Whistles’ leather is seriously good quality, so you’ll have this backpack for years and it will only get better with age. The shape is super-classic, but the bold red will give any outfit a little extra oomph. I’m a working mum who spends half her life pushing a pram – clutches were dead to me a long time ago. It’s big enough for a laptop, or a spare pair of trainers, or nappies. #mumlife

Kérastase has done the unthinkable and made four-day-old hair look, well, INCROYABLE! An impressive five years in the making, beauty boffs have formulated the re-shaping lotion – which both locks in style and can be reactivated up to four times before your next wash. Applied to damp hair, the microscopic layer of ingredients is stimulated by heat, giving you your longest-lasting blow-dry yet (or I’ll eat my imaginary hat). Perfect for those who love permanent blow-dries without the in-salon price tag. Want to treat yourself? Head to page 71 for this and more beauty buys worth the hype. Gilly

S

hakespeare once said: ‘If dresses be the food of love, go to Dorothy Perkins because its current selection is absolutely wonderful.’ Or something like that. Anyway, point is the Bard knows his stuff – DP really does have great dress game right now. Don’t think these are just run-of-the mill frocks either. Oh no – your rails are about to look like an aspirational Instagram post when Dorothy Perkins is through with them. Dandelion-print shirt dresses, slinky dungaree frocks,

tea dresses, lacy slips, white cotton dreams… you name it, DP’s got it. Good news for your morning routine, too, as they’re all ready-made outfits just waiting to be taken out for a spin. Mini, midi, maxi, block colour, floral prints and Bardot necklines make this array a veritable pick ’n’ mix of treats. Albeit less sugary and better for you. And we’ve secured you an exclusive 20% off* to spend on any full price merch in store and online. No need to dress this one up (sorry); it’s pretty obvious how great this offer is. You’re welcome.

t’s rare for one piece to give the entire Look office fashioninduced goosebumps – but there’s not a single staffer who isn’t smitten with this beauty. Enter River Island’s floorsweeping cardigan or, as it will hence be known, the knit of dreams. From the brand’s premium Studio range, the cover-up has reached cult status in the blogosphere, with every influencer worth her Insta-salt using it to rake in the likes. Sure, it’s a bit of alright in the pics, but in the flesh it’s even better – trust us, those could-be-Missoni zigzags will have everybody fooled. And while it may command a slightly higher price tag than RI’s mainline collection, we reckon it’s worth every.single.penny on styling potential alone. Layered over miniskirts and straight jeans is a given, but it also looks hella hot buttoned up as a slinky frock. Look away, gran…

‘Social Media Makes Girls Put Pressure On Themselves’ What Happened When look Hung Out With Kate Moss (eep!)

T

o celebrate her 15-year-long reign as the queen of the catwalk and face of Rimmel, we met with Mossy to chat all things lippie, leather and of course the London look. Like the best friend we always wish we’d had, she shared with us the secret to her iconic tousled hair, told us about her daughter’s #GirlCrush on Gigi Hadid and revealed why she’s saying ‘nuh-uh’ to the pressure social media puts on girls today. Cue *mega* fangirl moment!

Fash Envy We managed to have a peek at Kate’s actual wardrobe… How cool is this latex dress?!

What are your thoughts on the whole contouring craze that’s big right now? It does look good on camera, but in real life it just looks weird. Back in the day I’d do shoots with Kevyn Aucoin and it was, like, his thing. He could totally change the whole shape of my face. But no one can really do it like him, I don’t think. Who’s your fashion inspiration? I quite like the way men dressed in the 70s, like Mick Jagger and Marc Bolan. They’re quite feminine but still with a tomboyish look, which I like.

Lila loves how Gigi dresses but I couldn’t wear a crop top! Do you keep all of the amazing pieces you’ve ever worn? Most of it I do. I lost a lot on my travels. But now I’ve learnt! I used to give away pieces to friends who said they liked it, but now I keep the good bits for my daughter. How do you get ‘Kate Moss’ hair? With the help of a hairdresser! No, I don’t do big blow-drys. I just blast it upside down and go. And leave it a bit damp so it’s not too dry. And obvs we all want to know your ultimate go-to outfit? This is so boring, but just an old black T-shirt and some jeans. For festivals, probably a pair of cut-off jeans, fishnets and boots… Oh, and a leather jacket!

WOrds: CHLOe BUrCHAM PHOtOs: reX FeAtUres

Look’s Deputy Beauty Editor Chloe Burcham: ‘What do you wear when you’re meeting one of fashion’s greatest icons? Black, obvs!’

Fifteen years is an iconic milestone – what are your new favourites from the Kate X Rimmel anniversary collection? For 15 years now we’ve been doing nudes and reds, so this was kind of getting the iconic shades I really loved together to create a beautiful collection that works for absolutely everything. Who do you think has great style nowadays? Ooh, I don’t know. I like the oldies, like Anita Pallenberg. I love the way she looked in the 60s. Now, my daughter [Lila] loves how Gigi Hadid dresses – but I could never wear a crop top! For them, they look cute. Do you think social media puts too much pressure on young girls to always look perfect? For me it doesn’t, because I don’t do it. It’s not my generation. Young girls put pressure on themselves to have to think about what they’re wearing every day because of things like Snapchat. I don’t do that. What advice would you give your 15-year-old self? Wear sunscreen – instead of baby oil! Oh God, yes! Do you have any 90s brow regrets? No, I’ve always had quite thin brows, But they grow back normally. My nan has no eyebrows – she has them tattooed on from the 60s and they look purple! But Lila’s really into it. She tries to make them thicker and I’m like: ‘Right, OK, they look like they’ve been cut out and stuck on your face!’ But whatever – it all goes around, doesn’t it? I’m sure next season we’ll all be back to the thin brow.

What’s New Zara regrets having sex on national TV

Zara Holland: ‘Stripping Me Of My Title Sends Out The Wrong Message’ Rate it or hate it, ITV's Love Island sparked widespread debate when former Miss GB Zara Holland was stripped of her title after sleeping with fellow contestant Alex Bowen

words: olivia foster photos: itv2, wenn, zara holland/instagram

W

hen we meet 20-year-old Zara Holland one rainy morning in central London, one thing is very clear from the off: she really regrets having sex on national television. Like, really regrets it. It was a move that saw her de-crowned of her Miss Great Britain title and slut-shamed by her fellow contestants. A move that she openly calls: ‘The biggest mistake of my life.’ When she was told the news, she broke down in tears and left the island a few days later after learning that her mother Cheryl was ill. But how does she feel now? ‘I never, ever wanted to lose my Miss Great Britain title and I’m really heartbroken,’ she tells Look. ‘I respect their decision but I thought beauty pageants had changed. Fifty years ago my Mum used to do them and it was very much about how you looked... Now they’re promoting that a real woman can enter and how they fit into society today. But maybe they haven’t changed.’ She adds: ‘I In bed with Alex thought they had, but on Love Island and winning Miss every 20-year-old girl Great Britain makes mistakes.’ It’s clear to see that Zara feels terrible about what happened and it seems wholly unfair that Alex came out of the situation unscathed while she’s been left in anguish having lost

the one thing she worked hardest for. There were reports that she’d agreed not to have sex on TV, but she says this wasn’t something that wasn’t discussed. ‘They gave me written permission, saying: “Zara Holland, the current Miss Great Britain, you have our full support to go on Love Island,”’ she says. ‘There’s nothing in that permission that says: “She cannot have sex on TV.”’ Miss GB say their decision was based on the fact that it happened on ‘national TV’ and that Zara was no longer

I never, ever wanted to lose my Miss Great Britain title – in their view – a good role model. But at the time of Look going to press, over 20,000 people who’ve signed a petition to have her reinstated in her role disagreed. Even Zara, who says she’s now going to take some time out from dating, thinks that Miss GB could be sending out the wrong message by taking her crown away. ‘Before I had my title stripped I would 100 per cent back beauty pageants. They’ve made me believe in myself. But I think stripping my title might give out the wrong message now,’ she says. ‘I think people want to see a real role model that they can relate to.’ Accidental feminist? Perhaps; perhaps not. Either way Zara’s shone the spotlight on pageant politics. We reckon you’re better off without that sash, Zara!

COVER STORY

cher yl H a ppi er THan ever Hats at the ready, guys! It looks like Cheryl and Liam Payne could be ready to tie the knot

O

K, we’ll admit it – if someone had told us six months ago that Cheryl and Liam Payne’s relationship would still be going from strength to strength now, we might have rolled our eyes. But as the star headed towards her 33rd birthday this week (happy birthday, Chez!), Look has learnt that things are going so well for the pair that marriage and babies are ‘100 per cent on the cards’. Friends say that, for Cheryl, the lead-up to her birthday on 30 June has been a time of reflection; a time to assess what it is she really wants from life. ‘Cheryl has always said that she couldn’t imagine turning 35 having not started a family, and now she’s met Liam she feels like this could finally be a possibility,’ says our source, adding: ‘It’s a really emotional but happy time for her. After everything that’s happened over the last year, she feels like she’s really moving on with her life.’ Having a baby with Liam is now Our insider has a real possibility revealed that, ideally,

Cheryl would like for her and Liam to marry before they have a child. The source says: ‘Cheryl’s quite traditional but obviously her divorce [from JeanBernard Fernandez-Versini] hasn’t gone through yet, so if a baby did come first she wouldn’t be complaining. ‘Like many women, Cheryl’s main concern is how quickly she could conceive. She’d love a big family but at the moment, she and Liam are taking it one step at a time and hoping she becomes pregnant soon. Her dream has always been to have three children, including a little girl to dote on.’ Cheryl has previously spoken about her dreams of becoming a mum, saying: ‘I’d love kids. I’m obsessed with babies. Of course I’ve thought about baby names, a million times. I like Alfie for a little boy. I know that’s what I was put on Earth to do – to be a mother.’ But the last 12 months have been somewhat of a roller coaster for the singer, who split from her second husband JB and sensationally quit her job as a judge on The X Factor at the end of last year. On the upside, if they are to go ahead with their plans to wed it seems Chez has got the seal of approval from 22-year-old Liam’s family. After recently attending

But last week Ruth stepped in to defend Cheryl’s choice of outfit – a grey Rick Owens maxi – for her big day, posting a note on Twitter that read: ‘I also had no say over what any guest wore to my wedding. I don’t know who does have a say but considering my brother’s girlfriend is one of the most beautiful women in the world, she can wear anything and still look stunning as she did at my wedding.’ It’s also thought that Liam’s parents Karen and Geoff were quite taken with the singer. A source says: ‘Both families have given their blessing to Cheryl and Liam. They’ve never seen either of them so happy.’ Liam previously met

And while neither Cheryl or Liam has spoken publicly about their relationship – despite making their red-carpet debut as a couple in Cannes in May – friends have been quick to wax lyrical about how happy they are. Liam’s bandmate Niall Horan recently revealed that there was a ‘bit of a story’ behind the pair getting together, before saying: ‘She’s a great girl, really fun. He’s a top man and one of my best friends. She seems happy, he’s happy, so I’m happy for them.’ And Cheryl’s old boss Simon Cowell shared a dinner with the pair in LA in April, saying afterwards: ‘I saw them together and we had dinner. They were on good form. They’re like two little chipmunks madly in love. They were so cute.’ Cheryl and Liam are thought to have got together shortly after The X Factor finals at the end of 2015 and went public with their romance in February. At the time there was controversy

Taylor Swift is having one helluva week, but is it just the start? As Hiddleswift goes public, fans are going into meltdown…

Is The TIde TurnIng O n Tay l O r ?

‘She’S A hypocrite’

Amy Ward, 27, Look’s Picture Researcher

‘I used to be a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I just can’t love her any more. While I’m not as extreme as some fans (I think calling her a “tart” is way out of line), this backlash is justified. She always tries to make herself out to be this wonderful, perfect person but actually she clearly isn’t. She claims she’s fearlessly championing women but Bad Blood was about taking a woman down. It’s hypocritical, and if this Kanye West situation turns out to be true then I will have totally lost any respect I used to have for her.’

year ago, we stood in Hyde Park belting our hearts out to Bad Blood as Taylor Swift strutted around the stage. We were in awe and truly believed she could do no wrong. But 12 months later, it’s a slightly different story. Fans have lashed out at the 26-year-old star over her changing image, with one going so far as to claim she’s a ‘dirty, stinking tart’. It’s a far cry from the girl crush they were experiencing a year ago. So why the Tay shade? It all started with the song Bad Blood, rumoured to be about her beef with Katy Perry over ‘stolen backing dancers’, with Katy tweeting: ‘Beware the Regina George in sheep’s clothing’. The feud between Katy, 31, and Taylor was reignited last week when Katy announced her latest perfume is called ‘Mad Love’, a possible reference to the Bad Blood lyric: ‘Now we’ve got bad blood, you know it used to be mad love’. More recently, it’s all been about her split from Calvin Harris. Heartbroken Swifties who thought Talvin were the perfect pop power couple were angry when she was spotted snogging Tom Hiddleston, 35, just weeks later. Last week the pair were seen looking über-happy at a Selena Gomez concert, kissing and dancing in the crowd. Adding to that, Taylor and her team are now at war with Kanye West (again) after his wife Kim Kardashian insisted that Kanye ‘called to get [the reference to Taylor in his song Famous] approved’. Taylor’s publicist fired back: ‘Taylor does not hold anything against Kim Kardashian as she recognises the pressure Kim must be under ... However, that does not change the fact that much of what Kim is saying is incorrect.’ Ouch. This week the story unravelled further with The Sun claiming they’ve seen a letter from Taylor’s lawyers insisting Kanye ‘destroy the recording of the call’. Could Taylor’s perfect world be about to come crashing down? We asked two of our Look team for their opinion…

‘i Still love tAylor’

Gemma Yates, 29, Look’s Fashion News Editor

‘Why have we forgotten that, first and foremost, Taylor Swift is a pop star, not a role model? Everyone seems to think that she should act in a certain way but actually, she’s a young woman growing up in the public eye and she’s going to make mistakes – who hasn’t? The backlash surrounding her split with Calvin irritates me, mostly. It’s totally sexist – he actually got with Taylor just weeks after splitting from model Aarika Wolf. In her own words, I hope Taylor can just “shake it off”.’

ÔEveryone Wanted To Be In The Film’ We haven’t seen them for a few years, but Eddie and Patsy are back to ‘see off’ Kate Moss, rule the fashion scene again and of course, have a few drinks while doing it…

hen it comes to BFFs, there’s one eternal truth: one of you is Patsy and one of you is Eddie. So we sat down with the eternally chic Ab Fab ladies Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley to find out who battled it out for a cameo in the new film and what it Kate Moss really took to takes a dip in get Kate Moss the Thames dunked in the Thames. Pass the Bolly (hic)!

Anyone who’s worked in the media industry would say some of the storylines are rather close to

36

the bone. Were you inspired by real-life events? Jennifer: [Laughs] I don’t know. I invented it all – pure invention! It wasn’t based on real life at all, actually – it was just all what I imagine happens and it turns out it does happen. We’ve been to enough parties! The film’s packed with famous faces, but did anyone turn you down? Joanna: We actually had to beat them off with a stick. Jennifer: We just said we needed people to turn up to a party… and people turned up to go to a party. Was there anyone begging for a cameo? Jennifer: No, I think there was this idea that Kim Kardashian was [going to be in it] which she never was. Harry Styles wasn’t [either]. So I think people sort of invented

who they thought should be in it. Who was the best cameo for you? Jennifer: Oh gosh. We choose a different person every time Joanna: We do, because that’s polite. I mean, I have to say cameo is a great word because how can Jon Hamm be a cameo? It’s not too bad to have to rough him up a bit [laughs]. It was pretty nice. Jennifer just thought: ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to have Jon Hamm?’ He’s a giant. But funnily enough, the giants are the first to say yeah. How did you convince Kate Moss to get in the Thames? Jennifer: Because she’s a model. Joanna: Models have to do tough stuff. They endure heat and cold. Jennifer: She was treated a lot better – as she said – walking in the Thames on a film shoot than she would have been if it was

a modelling shoot. Photographers are ruthless. We wrapped her up in blankets and gave her tea. Is this film your farewell for the characters? Jennifer: Not at all, because they’re always with us. Joanna: We might just do our own small films and just laugh at them ourselves. Jennifer: I’ll get a GoPro [camera] and come round to your house. Do you think there could be a sequel? Jennifer: I’m not planning a sequel at all, no. Joanna: Oh, I am. Jennifer: Nooo, this is it! There were reports at the time of filming that booze had to be banned on set. Was there any truth in that? Joanna: This is the only sad thing, which can be kept only between us and your readers – we don’t drink at all. It’s all ginger beer. Do you think people wanted you to be drunk? Joanna: Yes, people wanted us to be slaughtered! I rather wish it could be true, though – there were moments where we’d say: ‘Could we have a real bottle here?’ What do you think it is about these characters that have transcended so many generations of women? Joanna: I think women get women. We all know someone who’s like the characters. People come up and they say: ‘I’m Eddie and my friend’s Patsy.’ Jennifer: I think it happens everywhere. Everyone goes out on nights out; they have the best friend who always supports them. Joanna: And I think women, more than men, have fashion disasters. Men don’t usually have that, whereas women are haunted by the fact that

We had to beat the celebs off with a stick

the dress isn’t quite right or think: ‘If only it did up better.’ Jennifer: It’s just everyone’s neuroses. You get up in the morning and you think: ‘Oh, I’m not good enough, I’m too fat, I’m too thin, I can’t do this,’ and then you just end up thinking: ‘Alright then, what the hell, we’ll have a drink.’ Joanna: And then you put something on and you turn to your best friend and go: ‘Does this look alright?’ and she says: ‘Oh, you look fabulous!’ So you’ve both worried about your looks in the same way as your characters? Jennifer: Always. There’s no person out there that doesn’t. You must be super-weird if you get up and think: ‘I’m fabulous’ every day. Joanna: Patsy thinks she’s fabulous! Jennifer: Well, she’s blind! [Laughs] Eddie and Patsy have aged well given their lifestyle…. Joanna: Patsy’s formaldehyde. She’s got no interior organs and she doesn’t eat, so she can’t be poisoned. Have you taken any of the props or costumes home? Jennifer: Very few costumes. I mean, Edina doesn’t wear anything you’d ever want to wear again and it’s always too small. Actually, once a Jean Paul Gaultier jacket came in that was so divine I just said: ‘I have to have that.’ In the trailer there’s the running joke about Stella McCartney and you not being able to wear her clothes. In real life were designers happy to lend? Jennifer: Stella has replaced Lacroix, as Lacroix no longer exists and Stella is just such a fantastic British brand. So [in the film] she’s rebelled and said that Edina is banned from wearing her clothes – and I love that. And I love that Stella McCartney’s so game.

Where there any brands that wanted you to wear their clothes? Jennifer: Well, Stella actually. Stella was really pissed off about it, so we’re wearing all of her clothes for the publicity stuff because it’s gorgeous. But Vivienne Westwood made all of Edina’s clothes, obviously two sizes too small, which was kind of tragic. But Patsy always looks amazing! Joanna: I had a lovely Alexander McQueen dress with a Topshop jacket – but they all go back afterwards. Have there been any standout moments during the Ab Fab years? Joanna: We had a funny time in the South of France when they went on a wine-tasting thing and they didn’t realise that you’re just supposed to take a sip and spit it out and we drank bottle after bottle. Well, we didn’t…. Jennifer: That was one of the few times they said: ‘We don’t have any props,’ and we said: ‘That doesn’t matter.’ Joanna: And the charming man who owned the vineyard was probably imagining these women would be elegant, they’re going to be film stars… and there we were with stuff all down our fronts, just lying on the table. n Absolutely Fabulous is in cinemas nationwide from Friday 1 July

Move over, Zoella – new research suggests that the people who inform what we eat, buy or do aren’t exactly who you might expect…

I

t’s midnight on a Tuesday and Alexandra Michaels, 37, is meant to be asleep. The voiceover artist from Enfield planned to get an early night, but she’s spent the last 45 minutes trawling social media in bed, clicking link after link. Right now, she’s looking at a wedding florist’s web page – even though she’s single. But she didn’t land here by following a celebrity’s sponsored post or checking the style tags on a blogger’s Instagram; she’s here because her ex-boyfriend’s current girlfriend, Jenny*, shared a link on Twitter. And that’s what it takes for her to ‘click through’. ‘It’s not that I’m trying to copy her,’ Alexandra explains. ‘But if she rates something, I want to know why. If she shares an article, I stop to read it. If she mentions a hair salon, I want to check it out to see if I should go too. I guess I want to know what she does that makes her good enough for my ex. Even though we’ve never met and she doesn’t have that many followers, she has a really big impact on me.’ Chico Tirado isn’t surprised. As the co-founder of Gnack – a marketing platform that encourages brands to rethink their online strategy – he’s built a business on the idea that the most powerful influencers are often the ones with the smallest followings. ‘We realised very early on that instead of working with two people who each have 500,000 followers, you could work with 2,000 people who each have 500 followers and you’d get much stronger, deeper results,’ he explains, adding that Gnack created the term ‘micro influencer’ as a result of its research. ‘It all comes down to trust. If you only have a couple of hundred followers, then the chances are quite high that you know them personally, or through a friend. That means they care about what you say – and if you recommend something, they’re probably going to listen.’ Annie Ridout backs up Chico’s theory. As a new mum, she spends hours on Instagram looking for others also experiencing parenthood for the first time. ‘I’ll often open a friend’s feed and then just scroll through her “follow” list to find new people to add because I feel like my friend must follow them for a reason,’ the 30-year-old

from Walthamstow explains. ‘Then, because we have a personal connection of sorts, I’ll end up trusting the new person’s judgement, too. When my daughter was really little, I felt like I’d lost my identity a bit. Then I saw that a friendof-a-friend was posting really cool tops from Topshop that you could breastfeed in, so I ended up quietly using her as inspiration when I went shopping. It’s funny, because I rarely click on anything that’s been suggested by a celebrity, simply because I don’t find them relatable – but as soon as a ‘real person’

If you have fewer followers, they’re more likely to know you – and care what you say suggests something, I’m all over it.’ The research is clear. Not only are ‘micro influencers’ twice as likely to get click-throughs if they post on Facebook or Twitter than their blogger counterparts, but if you have over 1,500 followers the chances of somebody engaging with your next post (be that double tapping it or commenting underneath) are only between 0.5 and five per cent. But those with fewer than 1,500 followers will see up to 25 per cent

of their followers interacting with whatever they upload. However, Fergus Neville, social psychologist and research fellow at the University of St Andrews, believes online influence is about a lot more than just friendship. ‘We all have multiple social identities, which affect the way we view ourselves and the way that we relate to other people,’ he tells Look. ‘For example, if you consider yourself a feminist and click on a stranger’s profile and see that they describe themselves as a feminist, too, you’re more likely to feel close to them and be influenced by their behaviour.’ Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean it’s as simple as editing your profile to list your interests. ‘It’s a doubleedged sword because if you present too many identities in one go, you risk alienating people,’ Fergus explains. ‘If you try to please everybody at the same time, you risk coming across as very bland and nobody will be able to relate to you at all. You actually see that when celebrities present a perfect, unattainable life online, they lose any shared social identity with their fans. People begin following them simply for the voyeurism. And that means they probably don’t have any “influence” over you at all.’ For Alexandra, it’s a tough wake-up call. ‘Being influenced by people you know isn’t a bad thing,’ she concludes. ‘It’s not that different to getting recommendations from friends on a night out. But I guess I hadn’t realised the extent to which I’m influenced by Jenny. I think I’ll try to cut back.’

Be yourself. Rather than attempting to

curate the perfect Instagram feed, show your life the way it really is. If your messy bedroom loses you a follower, so be it – the ones who stay are the ones who are listening. Sign up to Gnack. The platform has recently launched in the UK (gnackapp.com) and will pair people who have under 1,500 followers with brands. All you need to do is post a link to their product and watch the cash roll in! Tell the truth. If you’re being paid to review something, use the hashtags #spon or #sp – research shows that being upfront about financial incentives can actually make your followers take you more seriously.

Maxine Eggenberger, Senior Fashion News Writer says: ‘It’s taken forever to find “the one” when it comes to bikinis, but boy, was it worth the wait. Miss Mandalay’s straps are thinner than most brands I’ve tried that design for bigger boobs, and unlike others it doesn’t sacrifice the trends.’

Don’t freak out: we know the words ‘neoprene’ and ‘zip-up’ sound suspiciously like we’re describing a wetsuit – but look! Olivia Palermo has worn one of these sportier swim styles and doesn’t she look chic? (Answer: yes.) Zip-up fronts, longer sleeves and mesh details are offset with neon hues and floral prints. Time Delay Wrinkle Reduce Eye Cream  Look’s Gabrielle: Packed full of antioxidants and anti-ageing peptides, this lightweight formula is perfect for sensitive skin. After gently patting on with my fingers, the eye area looked brighter and tighter. Alice: I dotted this cooling cream around my eyes and it quickly soothed post-night-out puffiness. It also helped with dark circles, but didn’t do much to reduce the appearance of fine lines. Best for on a budget.

Ultimate Miracle Worker Eye SPF15  Look’s Gabrielle: This star treatment targets fine lines, wrinkles and shadows, thanks to caffeine and vitamin C. It’s quite thick but quickly absorbed. I use it every day – I’m hooked. Alice: I could really feel this product refreshing my tired skin. The added SPF was a bonus, as sun cream too near my mascara can make it smudge. However, the pot is tiny, with a big price tag. Best for splurging.

3

Liz Earle

Superskin Eye Cream  Look’s Gabrielle: Enriched with a botanical blend of natural oils and calming green tea,a few pumps of this cream perked up my peepers in a flash. Alice: I found this product to be super-hydrating. Applied

Frezyderm

Eye Balm  Look’s Gabrielle: This clever balm boosts circulation in the delicate eye area, banishing bags and dark circles in one hit. It’s not too heavy and left my skin feeling velvety smooth. Alice: This product felt so luxurious it rivalled some of the more expensive creams, without the big price tag. Also, a little goes a long way, so it will last ages. The downside? It didn’t do much for my dark circles. Best for fine lines/wrinkles.

Origins

GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream  Look’s Gabrielle: I really suffer from dark circles and this put them to bed in just a few weeks. Coffee beans, ginseng and magnolia pack a punch against puffiness. Even after only a couple of days, I looked more bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Alice: The natural formula smells amazing and it immediately helped brighten up my sallow shadows. Two weeks of using it morning and night and the skin around my eyes looked radiant, with fewer lines. I love it. Best for dark circles.

l To combat really puffy eyes, keep a spoon in the fridge,

then press it under your eyes before applying your cream. l Dark circles are a hard to get rid of, so use a colour corrector underneath your concealer to help hide them. l Everyone says it, but staying hydrated throughout the day will help combat all the telltale signs of tiredness around the eyes – so drink up!

10 NewFitness Rules ToObey Now

@lillysabri

@catmeffan Former fashion PR Cat is the blogosphere’s yoga queen – check out imperfectmatter.com. Seriously supple, her 41.1k Insta followers can’t get enough of her daily poses and exceptional leggings collection…

CAT’s COMMANDMENTs PLAN AHEAD I plan my workouts as I would my social life – possibly because I don’t have much of the latter! Find time in your diary each week for your training and slot it in. FUEL & REFUEL Make sure your body has plenty of energy before a workout and nourish it afterwards. There’s no one-size-fits-all – it’s about knowing your body and finding out which foods work best for you. MIX IT UP If running is your thing and you want to do it all the time, try to find another activity that complements it to challenge your body. I love yoga, but I run and lift weights to help with my strength and endurance. Your body becomes accustomed to exercise and without progressing your training you’ll plateau. BREATHE Whether you’re playing a sport or you’re in the gym lifting weights, never forget to breathe through the movements, as getting oxygen to the muscles will help with your performance. DON'T BE AFRAID I know what it feels like to walk into a gym, then look over to the weights area, see an army of bulky men and just hop on a treadmill. It took me ages to find the guts to go and do my thing, but now I'm in my element. Generally, most people are more than happy to help you with technique.

Insta-famous fitties Cat Meffan and Lilly Sabri reveal the nutrition and exercise commandments they swear by #fitspo

As well as running her signature ‘Hot Bootcamp Pilates’ courses, Lilly is a qualified physiotherapist and fitness model. Prepare for serious ab envy…

LILLY’s COMMANDMENTs

GET A WORKOUT BUDDY They’re great if you struggle with motivation, but a warning: don’t rely on your buddy alone – if they cancel, that’s not an excuse for you not to go. Have a workout plan too, otherwise you’ll just gossip! WORKOUT AT HOME By doing workouts at home, you’ll cut out travel time. Exercise for at least 30 minutes, keep it varied and invest in a small amount of equipment. I recommend a kettlebell, dumbbells, a yoga mat and a KO8 fitness resistance band – you can see demos of how to use one on my Instagram. DO PHYsIOTHERAPY Your body needs maintenance to prevent injury. Stretch before and after a session, and listen to warning signs – if you’re experiencing unusual pain during or after workouts, get it assessed by a chartered physiotherapist. The longer you leave an injury, the worse it can become. MONITOR PROGREss Try to avoid taking pictures too often – every three weeks is ideal. Don’t assess your progress by your weight either, as muscle weighs more than fat. Try using a skinfold caliper to measure body fat every two weeks. (DON’T) DIET Eat smaller, more frequent meals – six small ones rather than three large. This helps regulate blood sugar levels so you don’t have energy dips, and aids digestion. Try to avoid snacking after 10pm and carbs after 8pm, and don’t be afraid of healthy fats.

Ella: ‘It’s Daunting Being A Role Model’

WE GOT UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH SINGER ELLA EYRE, 22, TO FIND OUT ABOUT HER BEST FESTIVALS, NEW MUSIC AND, ER, WORST HANGOVERS…

Hi Ella. WeÕre big fans of your style. Who or what inspires you? It’s definitely inspired by the 90s, but I think it’s ever-changing as well. I just want to feel comfortable. I prefer finding newer brands on Instagram, and I’m a big fan of Florence Bridge, who’s made outfits for tours and events I’ve done. But when I’m not working, it’s all about oversized T-shirts and a dressing-gown.

Do you have a fashion icon? Not really, but I love Lana Del Rey – she’s classic.

Festival season is in full swing,. Which ones are you excited about? The ones I’m going to are in Europe. European festivals tend to be really varied musically. I’ve played Sziget Festival in Budapest – the atmosphere is amazing.

Ella cosies up to BF Lewi Morgan, and strikes a pose in her sunnies (inset)

What are your festival essentials?

Baby wipes, paracetamol and probably my Ray-Bans.

Which festival was the best party with the worst hangover? In 2011, I went to Benicàssim in Spain. I had such a good time. I don’t remember very much of it except lying on the beach absolutely dying! It was quite a nice place to be considering how bad I felt – but it was really hard to find shade.

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING IT’S ALL ABOUT WhatÕs on your OVERSIzED summer playlist? The Zara Larsson and MNEK song T - S H I R T S Never Forget You, Drake’s One AND A Dance, and an old-school favourite DRESSINGis Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. Female artists have had G O W N Ella’s an ambassador for Nintendo 3DS

80

a great year - do you stick together and give each other advice?

I think it’s important to do that. We’re part of a generation where we actually want to work together. It’s not about being jealous, or someone being better than you. I’m good friends with musicians like Becky Hill and Chlöe Howl. We support each other if we’re having a hard time.

How does it feel being a role model for young girls?

It’s quite daunting – whether you want to be one or not, you just have to accept that you are one. I don’t think I’ve ever really had a role model, so for me it’s ensuring I’m being the best person I can be.

What might we not know about you?

I’m exceptionally good at Mario Kart! Gaming’s not just for boys. Me and my boyfriend [Rixton’s Lewi Morgan] play it together – he’s a lot better at it than me, though. It’s competitive! It’s one of those games you can play on your own or with friends, so being a Nintendo 3DS ambassador kind of makes sense.

WhatÕs up next for you?

I’m writing my second album at the moment, so I’m really excited for people to hear the new stuff.
