HOW TO CARVE YOUR HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN! Choose a ripe pumpkin with no bruises. Do not carry it by its stem as it may break.
To clean the pumpkin, place it on several layers of newspaper before carving. Kids: have a parent or other adult cut a circle around the stem of the pumpkin for you. You should use a sharp knife with long, sturdy blade for best and safest results. Or, you can do it with a safer, plastic "pumpkin carving" knife. Make sure the hole is large enough to reach in and pull out the seeds and stringy membrane. When cleaning out the pumpkin, use an old soup ladle to get out the seeds. Try carving a giant pumpkin, it is easier to carve than a regular pumpkin. Choose the best place to carve out the face. Draw an outline of a face on a plain sheet of white paper. You can use the below templates for a guideline, just draw them larger onto an A4 paper. Tape your paper to the pumpkin where you want the face to be. (Adult) Punching through the paper into the pumpkin with a large nail or pin to make the shape of the face. Carefully cut out the design following the holes that were "punched" with your plastic knife. When you are finished cutting, simply push out the pieces to view the final results. Now the pumpkin is ready to light up for Halloween night! Enjoy

The Festival, which attracts over 70,000 visitors each year, will take place in venues across Canterbury and the surrounding areas between Saturday 17 and Saturday 31 October 2009.
Highlights include: A stunning opening night performance of Handel’s Coronation Anthems in Canterbury Cathedral by The Sixteen Choir and Orchestra, Virtuoso recitals from violinist Tasmin Little and pianist Freddy Kempf; Comedy from star impressionist Alistair McGowan; Live music from folk heroine Cara Dillon and Cuban sunshine and sounds brought by Buena Vista’s Roberto Fonseca. There are appearances from poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, TV’s adventurer Charley Boorman and restaurant critic Michael Winner; and the finest contemporary dance from the award-winning Tavaziva Dance company. Compelling theatre with a unique site-specific performance of The Caravan – in a caravan! – and the hilarious Spymonkey’s Moby Dick.
