600 kilometres of coastal line with beautiful beaches and inviting water A coastal line of 600 kilometres rings LollandFalster and the coasts at the Langeland Belt, Smålandshavet, Storstrømmen, Grønsund, The Baltic Sea and the Fehmarn Belt offer an extremely varying look with sand, stones, dikes, hillsides and forests. You find beaches everywhere with clean and tempting water for a swim. There are plenty of opportunities for sunbathing and for a refreshing swim in the waves, and a lot of the beaches are perfect for families with young children who can play and have fun

in the shallow water and the soft sand. Wooden piers and ramps that make it easier for disabled persons to reach the water are available at the most popular beaches on Lolland-Falster. There are lots of places where you can cycle and run - or simply enjoy nature and the roaring ocean while strolling. A piece of advice: Keep an eye open; amber can be found everywhere along the coast.
One of the most popular vacation areas of Lolland-Falster is the eastern coast with 18 kilometres of beach in one stretch. In this area, sheltered by dikes, hillsides and coastal forests, you find thousands of summer cottages, camping sites, huts and hotels where families can enjoy holiday life. In the middle of this stretch you will find a genuine pearl. Marielyst Strand that was elected “the best beach in Denmark” in 2011, 2012 and again in 2013. A lot of readers of Rejseliv.dk are behind this important adulation of the wellvisited beach with the soft, white sand and the wonderful water.
Other nice bathing pleasures are waiting for you at Hestehoved Beach situated at the recreational nature resort at the Nakskov Fjord, Skansen at Nysted, Kramnitze and Hummingen on the southern part of Lolland, Hesnæs beach and Gedesby beach at the eastern coast of Falster.

Apart from having some of the most beautiful beaches in Denmark, Lolland-Falster offers a series of exciting sights and attractions - all within reach. You can feel the presence of history in the Medieval Centre in Nykøbing F, where you will be sent back to the magic medieval times. How to get help fast At the coasts and on the beaches on Lolland-Falster there are signs carrying a number in the form of a letter and a three-digit figure, clearly marked. At the emergency centre they also have this particular number, which means that if there is an alarm relating to e.g. an accident close to the coast, the person who raises the alarm can mention the number of the closest sign and in this way contribute to rapid assistance. At various beaches there are signs indicating particular conditions and giving other important information about the beach that you are visiting.

Right in the middle of the scenic Rewentlow Park you find the Rewentlow Museum Pederstrup. Here in the main building of the Pederstrup estate you can experience the story about the important reformer and statesman C.D.F. Reventlow (17481827) and his family The museum comprises a unique collection of art, handicraft products and furniture dating back to the period 1760-1830 by which you will gain insight into rational agricultural reforms as well as the ’upstairs’ culture. In the refurbished stud farm stable the exhibition ”Manor & Landscape Lolland” outlines the history behind the particular manor landscape on Lolland. Along with information stands at various manors the exhibition gives you inspiration for trips and new experiences at the manors on Lolland.

Falsters Minder in the House of the Tsar is the museum of the town housing the tourist information centre in Den gamle Købmandshandel in Færgestræde 1a. Here you will find items from the history of Falster showing the peasant and town culture from the Middle Ages and up to the present century. Visit e.g. the exhibition ”There used to be a castle” about Nykøbing Castle. Or use the Middle Age exhibition as a source of inspiration for trips in the landscape. You should also see the refurbished jeweller’s shop in the town street.

The exhibitions at the diocesan museum give you an insight into the Polish immigration to Lolland-Falster, the spectacular archaeological findings from the Roman Iron Age and an exhibition about one of the first public libraries in Denmark with 200 unique books dating back to the 18th century, covering everything from famous fictio-
nal works to good advice regarding any subject, accounts of journeys and a complete set of the botanical work Flora Danica. In 2014 folk costume and unique crucifixes from the Middle Ages will be in focus. Since 1927 it has been possible to visit the third oldest Open Air Museum in Maribo where the scenic Nature Park Maribo is located today. The Open Air Museum exhibits the
everyday life of ordinary people living in the country in the 19th century. The original houses and objects give your senses free scope to experience the cold, low-ceilinged rooms, the shared sleeping facilities, the hard physical work, the stench from the dung heap, the undrinkable water and whatever was part of life ”in the old days”. All kinds of big and small events take place during the high season.

Go back in history by following the old route of the monks turning and twisting from Glücksburg in Germany and across Lolland-Falster and all the way to Roskilde Cathedral. The Danish part of the Monks’ Road goes past Maribo Cathedral and a lot of other churches, each of which tells a story about a unique part of Danish culture. At the northern part of Falster, the Monks’ Road converges with another interesting route - ”The Church route” that covers the northern and eastern parts of Falster. All through the year Lolland-Falster offers a wide range of concerts. The gigantic Døllefjelde-Musse Market in the General Prayer Day vacation offers a lot of live entertainment within pop and rock. This is also the case for the Nykøbing F Summer Festival Week, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. You can also meet some of the best live-names at the Lienlund Festival in Nakskov and Maribo Rock in Hylddalen in the month of June. At Whitsun Lilleø at Askø hosts the food and musical festival Apple Flower Festival and each year lovers of traditional jazz look forward to the jazz festivals in Maribo, and on Femø. A permanent element of the street life in the summertime is also the musical summer entertainment at the town squares.

New big swimming centre in Nakskov in 2014
As from February 2014 Nakskov Idrætcenter can present the newest swimming centre in Denmark, including a have-fun pool with a big water slide, a hot water pool, a paddling pool and a big 8 lane sporting pool with a 1 and 3 meter springboard and a challenging climbing wall. The facilities are open all year round and are only closed on 23rd to 26th December and 31st December 2014. Nakskov - shopping, Nature Park Nakskov Fjord and a Swedish cannonball At the western coast of Lolland, deep in the Nakskov bay, you find the market town Nakskov. An interesting commercial town with a lot of beautiful, old houses and a series of fine specialty shops. The town is concentrated around the big square Axeltorv with its traditional market days. You could also spend a day on board the post boat Vesta. This boat has been sailing for more than 70 years and during the trip to the small islands, the master of the ship Otto Paludan would love to tell you a good
story. The history of Nakskov goes back thousands of years. On many occasions through history, the little town has been overrun by foreign intruders. A relic of the Swedish wars in the 1600s can be seen in the Sankt Nikolai church; a Swedish cannonball that hit right in the centre of the church during the service.

Even on Lolland-Falster sometimes the sunny weather changes to rain. But this is not a problem, because the pleasures of bathing can continue in the amazing aqua park Lalandia or in one of the swimming centres in the cities. A brand new one just opened in Nakskov. Good ideas for a rainy day could also include a visit to the two inviting first-run cinemas in Lalandia and Nykøbing F., or Fuglsang Kunstmuseum. You will also find various experiences in the many offers of interesting museums and galleries in the region.
Everywhere on Lolland-Falster you are close to nature - in fact you are right in the middle of it. Forests, coasts, lakes and picturesque landscapes with meadows and fields mean a quite extraordinary animal life. Game makes Lolland-Falster an extremely attractive hunting area, but you will also see protected animals such as the impressive white-tailed eagles. The Nature Park Maribosøerne are among the absolute top scorers when talking about a big number of eagles. In certain periods there are 25-50 eagles at the lakes in the central part of Lolland. The areas around Engestofte Manor at the Lollandic lakes are probably the best eagle areas in Denmark. At a lake in the Vildmark forest close to Nakskov rare green tree frogs and green toads compete to see which one has the most impressive croaking.

At the rough and beautiful coastal lines of LollandFalster with its calm bays and straits anglers will feel rigth at home. The chances of a catch are particularly good at the eastern and the southern coasts. In spring and autumn you can catch sea trouts, whereas in the summer months in particular garfish with the tasty flesh and the peculiar, green bones are easy to catch. A unique activity at our latitudes is coastal fly-fishing for grey mullets.
Enjoy the beautiful sailor’s landscape The waters at Lolland and Falster with inlets, open sea has more than 20 nice harbours, where you can anchor are perfect for the yachtsman. Here you find challenging waves of the Baltic Sea and the Fehmarn Belt or the more quiet water in Smålandshavet, Storstrømmen and Grønsund. Everything spiced with idyllic, small islands and a changing coastline.

Enjoy for example the lovely landscape in other parts of the Nakskov Fjord or take a trip along the eastern coast of Falster down to Gedser Odde - the southernmost point of Scandinavia.
There are extremely good possibilities of catching fish from a fishing vessel in the Baltic Sea as well as in the Langeland belt. Plaice, flounder, dab, codfish and turbot are just waiting to bite. The Langeland belt in the area from Albuen to Onsevig is said to be the very best fishing waters in Denmark when it comes to flatfish. And if you bring your own boat you can join the Danish championship of flatfish fishing in the weekend 13-14 September. The competition will start at Onsevig harbour.

Biking holiday for the whole family The flat landscape and the small, twisted roads form a bicycle landscape on Lolland-Falster, where the whole family can join the trip. There are only small distances between the small, cosy villages. And a trip in the forest or to the beach is always a possibility - also for small legs on a bicycle. A lot of the local bike rental shops have child bike seats as well as helmets for the youngest.

Marked biking routes Holiday on two wheels - for cyclists as well as for pedal athletics Enjoy the silence on the unpaved roads along the Sundrute or work up a sweat on a 147 kilometres trip around Falster. Lolland-Falster is full of cycling routes crisscross. Spend a couple of hours with the birds of prey around the beautiful Maribo lakes or let the femoral muscles work in the hills of Ravnsby. You could also take a trip on the dike of Lolland and cool off in the salty spray of the Baltic Sea.
Spare a week for exciting trips along straits and belts - and remember to take a detour to the small islands north of Lolland. For the tough ones, we recommend a trip along the eastern coast of Falster - ending in Berlin. If your legs get tired, you normally don’t have to go too far to find a place to rest. If you want to spice your holiday with running you will find excellent possibilities all over Lolland-Falster - and it is easy to combine nature experiences and exercise. A flood of pretty routes, roads in the forest and paths in the forest, tracks, highways, on top of dikes, by the straits, lakes and beaches or other beautiful places in the nature, invite you for a fitness run. You can run in the Naitonal forests 24 hours a day and it is allowed to go outside roads and paths. You are also allowed to run in private forests, but only on the roads and paths, and you can do so from 6 a.m. until sunset.
There are lots of reasons for not missing your run in the holiday. Find your own route in the nature on LollandFalster. You can find a route e.g. on the” out in the nature” map of the Danish Nature Agency at www.udinaturen.dk. A very good suggestion for a nice run is the Exercise Serpent at Nykøbing F - a 42 kilometre marked path system taking you through forests, on paths and small roads, along the harbour and the sea. A holy moor and the biggest tree in Denmark

Deep down in the Borremose on Falster you find the remains of an approximately 2000 year old settlement. The protected position with banks and moats and bog findings of human offerings indicate that the bog used to be sacred ground. A few kilometres to the east, in the big Corselitze forest at the eastern coast of Falster you find Halskov Vænge with dolmens and barrows from the bronze age. This is also where you find the biggest tree in Denmark, the old Valdemar oak which is about 550 years old and which has a circumference of 9.35 metres.

High up and deep down on the flat Lolland At the north-western part, the flat Lolland suddenly rises from the sea at Ravnsby Bakker. This is where you find the highest point on Lolland – Bavnehøj - an old barrow. The barrow was never unearthed. Further up the northern coast you find the small seaport Bandholm with its charming yellow houses. In the middle of the dock you find one of the last freshwater wells. The particular position is a relic from the time of the big sailing ships. Here the ships could easily get freshwater on board.

Exhibition at Væggerløse Solar collector system In the spring of 2014 you will be able to visit an outdoor exhibition of solar energy at the solar collector system of the heating plant of South Falster. Information boards and a tour with QR codes inform you about green energy. There are tables and benches and a little house where you can enjoy your packed lunch.
