cadets
endured
a
tough

Each stage of the course was assessed by the directing staff and notes were made on each of the cadets performance and ability. At the end of the course the cadets each had a personal debrief with the directing staff outlining their strengths, weaknesses and setting targets for their future development. Squadron
Warrant
Officer,
Edd
Vose,
commented; “By the end of the course all of the cadets had improved in many of the aspects covered and have also shown great potential to become future Cadet Non Commissioned Officers.

Issue 6– September 2013 Nesscliff Summer Camp Air Cadet’s from 1982 (Huyton) Squadron along with cadets from two other squadrons in Merseyside Wing have recently returned from a fantastic week long camp at Nesscliff Army Training Camp, Shropshire.
The sixty cadets from 1982 (Huyton) Squadron, 1123 (Hooton Park) Squadron and 400 (Birkenhead) Squadron experienced a varied array of activities from clay pigeon and full bore shooting to climbing, archery and even a full day exercise, that allowed the cadets to put into practise all of the camouflage and concealment skills they had been taught throughout the week. Combined with this training program there was also a trip to nearby RAF Shawbury for the cadets to visit the various areas of the station including the Fire Section, Central Air Traffic Control School and Number 705 Squadron of the Defence Helicopter Flying School. 1982 (Huyton) Squadron’s Training Officer, Sergeant Greg Jennings, commented; “This was the first year that this camp had been run and it is safe to say it won’t be the last. The cadets thoroughly enjoyed themselves and cannot wait for next year’s camp!” he continued “On behalf of the cadets I would like to thank all of the staff, most notably Pilot Officer Iain Collins of 1123 (Hooton Park) Squadron for putting together such a memorable camp.”

Issue 6– September 2013 Field Training Day 2013 On Sunday 8th September Cadets from 1982 (Huyton) Squadron travelled to Wade Deacon High School for Merseyside Wings annual Field Training Competition in which the 30 squadrons that make up Merseyside Wing compete in such competitions as Foot Drill, Banner Drill, First Aid, Band and Aero Modelling. Following the usual Pre-Field Training Day preparation on Saturday everyone was confident that we would better the previous year’s results so the mood in the 1982 camp was high from the outset. First up out of the competitions was the Banner Drill, this was lead this year by Cadet Sergeant Jack Lynch as the Banner Bearer and assisted by Sergeants Luke Swanson and Aron Stott as the Banner Escorts, Flight Sergeant Laura Brothwood as the Banner Warrant Officer and Cadet Ryan Lynch as the Banner Orderly. The Banner team performed fantastically grabbing 6th place and improving on the previous year results. Next up was the Uniform Inspection and Foot Drill Competition, this was the event that the squadron has been most looking forward to and they were up against some strong competition. Nevertheless the drill team lead by Flight Sergeant Laura Brothwood performed the sequence unfazed and came away with 10th place, another great improvement on 2012. The Aero modelling competition was an on-going competition which started from when our models were dropped off first thing Sunday morning, the models which consisted of Westland Sea Lynx and a De Havilland Mosquito were constructed by Corporal Karl Rio and Cadet Ryan Taylor with help from the other cadets in the Aero Modelling Project. However much like the Foot Drill they faced some tough competition from the other 30 squadrons in Merseyside Wing, bring them in 15th place this year. The last competition of the day was the First Aid Competition, this was again something the cadets and staff had been looking forward to as the team was confident they could surpass the 18th place they achieved at last year’s Field Training Day and true to their word they did bring, bringing the squadron in 8 places higher at 10th. Overall 1982 (Huyton) Squadron came 10th out of the 30 squadrons in Merseyside Wing, a vast improvement on 17th Place gained the year previous!
