MELLISSA READ-DEVINE ‘VERDANCE’
ARTIST STATEMENT I have been led to explore the glories of floral painting, as well as the feminine figure in reverie. It is a dance of brushstroke, luxurious with paint & colour. Some paintings hint of hidden anguish, but all of them are of joy.
ABOUT THE ARTIST Living in rural Sydney overlooking the Hawkesbury River, Mellissa Read-Devine’s work ranges between vibrant interpretations of her local landscape to intricate wood & linocuts. Her combination of quirkiness and calm blend to create works with a strong spiritual base. Mellissa was born in England and emigrated to Australia with her family when she was a child. For the past fifteen years she has continuously studied and practised painting and printmaking honing her art to perfection. Her impressionism style of work has been the recipient of many awards and prizes and is displayed in many galleries and private collections.

MEGAN PULS ‘MANGROVE’ ARTIST STATEMENT Ceramics have formed a part of our history for 1000’s of years. All ceramics are used in our everyday lives from sculptural pieces to an ordinary bowl. I’m part of that being. The makers mark. Not alone – on my own. When developing a block of work, in my mind’s eye, snippets are recorded in each piece mimicking nature. All colours and shapes are provided by nature. Then created by me into uniqueness. Ceramic materials are chosen to give a degree of differentness and uniqueness. Inspiration grows as your work develops – inspired by the wetlands, mangrove swamps, rust, ebbtide, ocean, sand, birds and silt.
ABOUT THE ARTIST Well known as a teacher and a professional ceramicist, Gold Coast based artist Megan Puls is widely exhibited, highly awarded and is one of Australia’s most successful ceramic artists. Recently, Megan Puls was selected as one of seven ceramic Australian artists to represent Australia in an exhibition entitled “Omnus -Terra” in Portland, Oregon. Inspired by the natural landscape around her, in particular the native wetland habitats, Megan is constantly creating, experimenting and pushing the boundaries of her chosen field. “I … commissioned a serious body of work from Megan which we now have in the Telstra collection and we also use as gifts for significant customers and visiting dignitaries. Through this process Megan’s work now showcases in many international offices and other collections including the Kerry Stokes collection. Megan’s work draws on the spiritual and very earthly nature of Australia’s landscape. This is what connects me to it and why I commissioned the work - to share in a very emotive way this connection with the nature of Australia” ANDREW PENN, CEO OF TELSTRA

SALLY PAXTON ‘COLOURS OF THE SPIRIT’ ARTIST STATEMENT ‘Nature wears the colours of the spirit. It speaks to us through different images, landscapes, colours, patterns, and forms of exquisite beauty. As we admire natures extravagance, our emotions and feelings become part of it. This harmonious balance makes our souls happy.’ Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882).
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sally Paxton is a pointillism painter who says that art and design have always played an important part in her life. Sally's work is inspired by wild life, especially birds in their environment, and the nature of things in everyday life and repetitive pattern and shape, particularly dots dominate her work. She was raised on a farming property on the Murray River in Mildura and that is where her fascination with nature began. Now she lives in the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, on a very different stretch of water, the beautiful Yaroomba Beach where she walks the dogs on the beach, picks up driftwood and shells, explores the bush, watches birds and kangaroos and of course, paints.
