History was made on Feb. 13, when it was announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live that sexy Rachel Lindsay has been named as the headliner for the next season of The Bachelorette (debuting May 22) — she’s the first African American star in the combined 33 seasons of the reality-TV series and its malefronted counterpart, The Bachelor.

But in addition to Rachel’s social breakthrough, there’s another reason the producers’ announcement caused a massive reaction among the series’ faithful followers: She was still a contestant on the current season of The Bachelor!

IGI Hadid’s athletic, all-American look helped make her a household name, but the demands of fame are turning the model into skin and bones!

“Gigi’s totally caved to the pressure to be rail thin on catwalks,” admits a friend, explaining that Tommy Hilfiger’s infamous dig at her — he said he dressed her in a poncho for her first show because she wasn’t “quite as thin” as the rest of the girls — always stuck in her mind. “Other models had always been very rude to her because she was more curvaceous, and she felt out of place.”

That is, until the 21-year-old decided a draconian, allliquid diet was the key to acceptance in the fashion world.

“She has a vegetable smoothie for breakfast, and a protein shake for lunch but nothing solid — ever,” reveals the pal. “And after 2 p.m., she doesn’t eat anything at all, only coffee or a Red Bull and maybe a glass of champagne at a party.”

It doesn’t help that her best friends — and even her sister — are also convinced that if their weight plummets, their social stock will rise.

“Bella has lost a bunch of weight, and even Kendall Jenner is thinner than ever,” reports the insider, who admits that Gigi’s boyfriend Zayn Malik is worried.

“Zayn’s turned off — not only by her thin frame, but by all the emotional baggage that comes with trying to stay so skinny,” adds the source. “It’s sad because she doesn’t need to lose a pound. Hopefully soon she’ll realize that and start taking better care of herself.” H

“Vito and Dasha had just eaten dinner with a small group of friends,” recounts a spy, adding that Heidi’s boytoy was in St. Moritz for the opening of his first permanent art gallery. “Once the last of them had left, Vito didn’t care who was

Things quickly took a detour in June after a red-faced, seemingly tipsy Ben slurred during a tirade on a TV sports show. Even so, Jen seemed to have forgiven him the fall, when the couple, both 44, were spotted on a flirty dinner date and Ben moved back into a guesthouse at their Pacific Palisades mansion. And in November, they appeared to have put their troubles well behind them when they reportedly renewed their vows in a hush-hush ceremony and Ben surprised Jen with a $2.3 million ring.

But a diamond can’t hold two people together, and now that long-patient Jen has reached the end of her rope with Ben, sources say she’s going to play hardball when it comes to divvying up their assets.

“She wants half of Ben’s $200 million fortune, their $45 million mansion, and sole physical custody of the children,” the insider claims. “But she will let Ben visit the kids whenever he wants and join them on family vacations with her parents.

KIM BASINGER After Kim bailed on the 1993 film Boxing Helena, Main Line Pictures sued her for more than $8 million. The suit was settled for $3.8 million, but the star still filed for bankruptcy that year, trashing her plans to develop the small town of Braselton, Ga., which she’d bought with some investors. Despite these struggles, Kim reportedly continued to live lavishly out of three homes on both coasts and still dropped $31,000 a month on clothes and other expenses. Poor thing!

She may play a queen on Game of Thrones, but in 2013, Lena was reduced to pauper status, saying she had “less than $5” in her bank account. Though she reportedly earned about $1 million per episode on the HBO hit, the star claimed that her nasty divorce from Irish musician Peter Loughran had caused the cash crunch. She had to sell her Hollywood home — at a $340,000 loss — and rely on a tax refund to make ends meet. What a royal pain!

WILLIE NELSON In 1990, the IRS figured Willie owed $32 million in back taxes, so they seized most of his assets — including his recording studio, most of his instruments, his ranch and about 20 other properties, forcing him to declare bankruptcy that year. Fortunately, the feds left him with his beloved six-string Trigger. “As long as I got my guitar, I’ll be fine,” the rebellious country legend said at the time. He meant it, too: He recorded the album The IRS Tapes: Who’ll Buy My Memories? and started shilling for Taco Bell; he also successfully sued the accountants he claimed had gotten him into trouble in the first place. By 1993, he was paid in full, and it was nothing but blue skies from then on.

But it wasn’t just her sheer, barely-there minidress that drew stares — onlookers were shocked at how hollow-eyed and worn-out she appeared. “Britney’s only 35, but she could have been mistaken for a 55-year-old,” says one source.

There could be an explanation for her less-than-glamorous looks: Star has learned that behind the scenes, those close to the singer are worried that she’s under too much personal and professional stress. “Britney’s scary meltdowns from 10 years ago are always in the back of people’s minds,” says an insider. “Now they fear she’s on the verge of being overwhelmed again.”

PRESSURE OVERLOAD While Britney’s career is on the upswing (she scored four wins at the People’s Choice Awards in January), the pop princess’ life and schedule have been hectic over the last few months.

Britney had already extended her demanding residency show at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino (which she’s been starring in since December 2013) through this fall, when she announced that she was also returning to the studio to cut a new album. “When you consider that she also has to balance all that with being a mom [to sons Sean and Jayden, from her marriage to Kevin Federline], people in her circle feel Britney needs to slow down,” the insider adds. “She’s driving herself too hard.”

ILLIONS were riveted by Making a Murderer, the Emmy-winning documentary about Steven Avery, who was sentenced to life in prison for the violent 2005 murder of a young Wisconsin photographer named Teresa Halbach. Yet while the series painted a highly sympathetic picture of Avery, resulting in a huge outpouring of support on his behalf, Ken Kratz, the chief prosecutor on the case, insists that the film deliberately misled the public, in his shocking new book Avery: The Case Against Steven Avery and What Making a Murderer Gets Wrong.

Kratz claims the filmmakers of the hit series fabricated information, omitted key evidence and manipulated courtroom testimony in order to twist viewers’ opinions and lead them to champion Avery’s innocence. Many came away from the documentary believing that Kratz and the police officers involved in the case sought to frame Avery.

MAKING HIM MISERABLE Kratz maintains that his life has been in constant turmoil since the Netflix series aired in 2015, stating that he received more than 4,000 death threats in its wake. By that time in private practice,

Kratz says the onslaught of hateful emails, phone calls and negative Internet remarks forced him to shut down his business.

And while Kratz is no stranger to lurid scandal himself — he admitted to charges that he sexted a sex abuse victim and personally abused prescription drugs shortly after the Avery case concluded — he contends that his past was used against him, tainting the public’s impression of him. Kratz, who says he went to rehab for sex addiction and has been sober for six years, is sticking to his guns about Steven Avery’s guilt and vows to prove it with his bombshell book. H

KRATZ’S CLAIMS The filmmakers used dishonest tactics.

Kratz complains that the series, created by Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, employed a deceptive editing technique known as splicing. For instance, he points out that the documentary has a police officer replying “yes” to a question during court testimony that, according to the transcripts, a judge prevented him from answering. Other examples of splicing, Kratz says, made detectives seem bumbling or like they were trying to set Avery up for the murder.

The victim’s car key was discovered early in the investigation.

The key to Teresa Halbach’s car was found by police in the first search of Avery’s home — not the sixth, as portrayed in the documentary.

Kratz believes that Avery kept the key in case he wanted to move the victim’s car.

A vial of blood was misrepresented.

The defense claimed that Avery’s blood, discovered in Halbach’s car and used as evidence against him, could have been planted. They argued that a vial of Avery’s blood, dating back to a false rape charge in 1985, had been

tampered with. Kratz, however, says that a nurse testified that she had punctured the vial when she originally drew Avery’s blood.

Avery’s criminal past was downplayed.

Kratz protests that Making a Murderer paid little attention to Avery’s previous troubles with the law. These include exposing himself to a cousin, breaking into a bar, animal abuse, telling his own children he would kill their mother, and rape allegations by a babysitter and his own niece. Kratz also mentions that Brendan Dassey, Avery’s nephew and accomplice, accused Avery of molesting him.

Much has been made of Brendan Dassey being mentally challenged and just 16 years old at the time of the murder, as well as implications that his confession was coerced. However, Kratz contends that Dassey, also convicted and sentenced to life in prison for Halbach’s murder, made a complete, unprompted confession to raping, robbing and killing Halbach during a second interview with police. That confession, Kratz says, was offered to the filmmakers but did not appear in Making a Murderer.

But the light in Tom’s life dimmed considerably with the recent death of his mom, Mary Lee South, who held her family together after divorcing Tom’s “bully” of a father — and whose confidence in her son’s abilities ultimately paved the way for his development into one of the world’s biggest movie stars.

Mary Lee, 80, had been in ill health and had not been seen publicly for six years until she was photographed last May looking frail and using a walker in Clearwater, Fla. — the worldwide headquarters of the Church of LAST PHOTO Scientology, of which her son Tom, 54, is the most famous member — after moving there from L.A. earlier in the year. She reportedly passed away during the week before Valentine’s Day, and was given a memorial service in Clearwater attended by Tom and his three sisters, Lee Ann De Vette, 57, Cass Mapother, 55, and Marian Henry, 52. “Of course, losing his mother was heartbreaking for Tom,” says a source. “But in their religion, the immortal soul moves on from the mortal body to a new existence, so I’m sure Tom is comforted by his belief that Mary Lee has simply started a new journey.”

SHE WAS A ROCK Tom has described his father, Thomas Mapother III (who died of cancer in 1984), as a “bully and a coward.” And after Mary Lee divorced him in 1974, she worked multiple jobs to make a decent life for young Tom and his sisters.

Tom was 16 when his mom married his stepfather, John South, in 1978.

Later, after Tom appeared in a high school production of the musical Guys and Dolls, he approached his parents and asked them to let him take 10 years to try and forge an acting career; thankfully, for Tom’s millions of future fans, they said yes! “We both wholeheartedly agreed,” Mary Lee once told Rolling Stone. “Because we both felt it was a God-given talent... So to make a long story short, we gave him our blessing — and the rest is history.” H

Freida Pinto in Christian Lacroix Haute Couture at the Golden Globes in 2009. It was her first major event and it set the standard for what was to come.
