SANDRO BOTTICELLI 1445-1510

Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter and draughtsman. During his lifetime he was one of the most acclaimed painter in Italy, being summoned to take part in decoration of the Sistine Chapel in Rome and earning the patronage of the leading families of Florence, including the Medici. By the time he died, however, Botticelli’s reputation was already in decline. The birth of venus and Primavera is one of the most known painting created by Botticelli, who happened to fallen in love with venus himself. Botticelli hasn’t only worked on early renaissance painting, but also he has painted Christian art. Primavera Created on 1477- 1482 Scale: 2.03m x 3.14m

Adoration of the Magi Created on 1475-1476 Scale 111cm x 134cm Period: early renaissance

Pallas and the Centaur Created on 1482 Scale: 204cm x 147.5 Period: early renaissance

This painting is a mythological painting created by the artist name Sandro Botticelli. We see his art work speaks with passion and highlight the history of birth of Venus. The Greek aspects of the love and beauty goddess Aphrodite were added to the Roman Goddess: Love, Beauty, Fertility, Good Fortune. Venus is standing in the middle, nude from top to bottom, on a shell that seems to like her boat. The way her hand is position is similar to the sculpture created in the ancient roman time, which gave him the inspiration of creating a colour version of the birth of Venus. The face of Venus is Simonetta Vespucci the model of this painting. Who happened to be the face of this beautiful art work, which she a face from many other artist who admired her beauty.

The way Botticelli put venus at the centre makes our attention being engaged to her and afterward focus our eye left, right, background and foreground. We see the figures surrounding her from either side to make us see a story being portrayed in this art pieces. The way her hair being so bright brings out the her skin and being able to stand out. Her hair being so long and wrapping around part of her body does direct our eye around her body and gaze at her beauty.

On the left side of the painting you would see two people one who’s is Aura the god of breeze and zephyr the god of the wind. They both embrace each other, while they blow venus toward the shore of Cythera. On the right side you can see a women who has similar features as venus. The long arburn hair and pale skin. This lady is the called Hora the goddess of spring, who seems to be offering venus a cloth as she is blown ashore. With the Goddess, you are able to notice that they all look similar with their feature as if Botticelli is thinking that the way venus looks like they all may have the same features as her.

The horizontal golden ratio line from the top to the bottom crosses exactly at the top of the seashell. The horizontal golden ratio line crosses from the bottom to the top. At the horizon line, most perfectly on left side of the painting and directly through Venus navel. The vertical golden ratio line from left side the the side falls exactly at the point, which Horas thumb and finger are touching, as though she is grasping the Golden Ratio proportion embodied in the painting, perhaps even reaching for something Divine.

BRONZINO 1503-1572 Bronzino was one of the leaders of the second generation of Florentine mannerisms. Bronzino is a renaissance painter who is known for his work, which is not to be stylised portraits, cold in colour but impeccable in realism of detail. The type of art work are more religious and modest, from the Portrait painting. The well known painting created by Bronzino are portrait of Lucrezia Panciatichi, Portrait of Eleanor of Toledo and Depostion of Christ. The painting I’m looking closely at is An Allegory with venus and Cupid. The scale of the painting is 146.1 x 116.2cm. The scale is large to make the picture be realistic and making us feel the emotion that coming from the painting. Portrait of Lucrezia Panciatichi Created on 1545 Scale: 1.02m x 85cm Oil paint, panel painting

Portrait of Eleanor of Toledo Created on 1544- 1545 Scale: 1.15m x 96cm Oil paint, panel painting

DĂŠposition of Christ Created on 1540- 1545 Scale: 2.68 x 1.73m Wood, oil paint, panel painting

This painting by Bronzino is an allegory which is a word to describe a pieces of artwork which has a hidden meaning or narrative. This painting is a Mannerism, which is art after high Renaissance about 1520-1600 over stylised but powerful art with figures in elongated or distorted poses. The painting isn't symmertical like some picture, but the painting asymmetrical which is disorder by Pollock here.

The painting has two different story from a mother and son bond that god has created or a painting about syphilis, which is a sexually transmitted disease was ranging across Europe in the early 16th century. The connection of the mother and son is really close from the they are position together, the way the embrace each other and being nude showing the connection of birth on having a close bond once the mother gave birth. This painting has raised many opinion on what this could mean, but we may not have the final truth of what this painting really means.

As we know there is two side for this picture there are many story hidding together with so much story put into one. One by one we could have one or two different way of saying things that could add to the story. In. Traditional western painting you can identify the châtain each story by their attributes. Attributes are the symbols carried by each character that allows the viewer

This man has a hourglass that may indicate the hidden message that could be the pleasure of life than over time, which will be revealed to be full of despair and anguish. The boy with rose cheeks seems to be scattering rose petals, but also stepping on: that shows the sting of love. You could see this a different way as the boy is smiling. That might mean his foot is numb, and that he is suffering a condition called table dorsal is- a symptom of syphills.

This figure with it hand covering its face and seem like the person screaming or raging with jealously.

There is many confusing with group of analysts that wasn’t able to understand who this person is and why the man with the hourglass on his back is trying to cover her or or reveal who she is.

Titian 1488-1576

Assumption of the virgin Created on 1516-1518 Scale: 6.9 x 3.6 m

Titian is a fantastic artist known for his art work through renaissance, religious and Mannerism. This man hold loads of talent and isn’t afraid to try something different style of art. He tends to create beautiful art pieces of portraits and wonder why these people are important to him. The way he expresses his art piece are mostly contained with a religious story or mythological. The other art work you may know are; Assumption of the virgin, Bacchus and Ariadne, Venus and adonis and sacred and profane love. I have looked at two different painting, which are Venus of Urbino and Diana and Actaeon. For Venus of Urbino the scale of the painting is 1.19 x 1.65m, which Is human scales of being something realistic as a human body. For the painting of Diana and Actaeon the scale of the painting is 1.85 x 2.02m. Venus and Adonis Created on 1553-1554 Period: Mannerism, Italian Renaissance

Bacchus and Ariadne Created on 1520-1523 Scale 1.75 x 1.9m

Painting like these are traditionally the image of nude woman has been considered one of the highest form of art. Nude painting are traditionally been painted in an idealised way, traditionally smooth skinned, with soft curvaceous features. The purpose of these paintings has been for the Pierre of the male looking. An art historian named John Berger believe that these type of painting are used for the male to graze and be pleasured by her present of a full nude body.

Her direct gaze welcomes us which is extremely sensual. Her flesh is painted smoothly with glazes of oil paint. She is soft and curvaceous and her hair is typical of Titian’s other women.

The roses in her hand depict her fertility and her youth. Also, it identify venus as she the Godness who was born on with rose that identify her beauty.

The stomach does show that she may can give baby, which men find engaging within a women. This make her seem like a perfect women to any man.

If you see the colour of the background behind Venus of the dark green cloth framing her face and increasing the impact of her gaze on the viewer. The way her long silky hair frames her chest and lure us down to her arm where she has the roses on her hand. This women isn’t named but to be labelled as venus since whoever women is painted nude would most likely be called Venus.

The background show a women with her head in a calzone, which is a storage room to items things like blankets. This shows that she well looked after and cleaning. The cloth is spotless, which shows that she is clean and available.

The myrtle trees in the window are evergreen and suggest faithfulness.

This dog suggest loyalty unlike Manet who used a cat to suggest that it wild and runs about.

Diana and Actaeon is one of the six large mythologies that titan produced for King Phillp II of Spain. The other painting that King Phillip II has got from Titian are Venus and Adonis, Diana and Callisto, the death of Actaeon, the rape of Europa, DanaĂŤ and Diana and Actaeon.

The story behind this painting the man named, Actaeon was going hunting and stumbled across a spring bath that was including nude women, which one of them is Diana and other goddesses. Diana became furious of Actaeon and casted him into a stag to be devoured by his own hounds.

Actaeon just walked in see all these Goddesses nude from there spring bath. The way his body structure is postured you can see that he is shocked himself to these people.

You could notice a women head popping out of a column of brick. You could see the she is covering her body away from away from Actaeon so we knowing that Diana is shocked herself but the other ladies are. You could see the way she seem nervous and trying to hid away from him to be seen shocked and not showing around.

Diana is positioned on the right of the painting. Her pale colour and bright blonde hair, which she has a crown that’s wrapped around her hair. If you could see her from her face that she’s furious and clearly looking towards Actaeon. The lady next to her showing she being protecting her from Actaeon and trying to cover her with the cloth.

The other women near the bath seem they haven’t notices the situation or are not as bothered as Diana and the women is. The way the lady expression seem to be more clam than the ladies are the way she not trying warped themselves or furious on what has happened. There a lady that seems to be cleaning off Diana leg and feet and she also seem to have not notice what has happened.

If you look very closely by Diana feet you could see a dog that could mean a message of loyalty. However, the dog seem to growling towards Actaeon and protecting her from him and his dog, which the dog may feel to dangerous.

Gian Lorenzo Bernini 1598-1680 This artist works with sculptures that created mythological work that are outstanding. His father himself was a sculpture, which may have been passed on to him. Bernini could therefore begin work as a independent artist. His first works were inspired by Hellenistic sculpture of Ancient Greece. The other art work he has done are; ecstasy of Saint Teresa, David, Two Bust of Cardinal Scipione Borghese and Fontana dei Quattro Fiume. The work I have looked at is Apollo and Daphne. The scale of the sculpture is 243, which is taller that a regular human being. Ecstasy of Saint Teresa Created on 1647-1652 Medium: white marble

David Created on 1623-1624 Medium: marble Scale: 170cm

Two Bust of Cardinal Scipione Borghese Created on 1632 Scales: 78cm

The drapery of Apollo’s tunic seems to move with the action and Bernini succeeds in making solid marble appear light and billowing. This goes with Bust of Louis XIV with his effect less curls blooming around his face and the layers of draping that seems to be moving in a course of wind. Also, the marble so softly put together on his face that glows to grasp our attention. We see Bernini was able to make sculpture so detail that we could forget that its marble.

This sculpture created by Bernini is called David. This sculpture was created on 1623 to 1624. The life size sculpture, of David, has an open pose that is shown with his sling shot in the midst of slinging the rock. He isn’t enegaed to the viewer, but face else where that could be his target. The poses reflect determination its emphasised by the strong disgonals of limbs. The figure movement is very daramtic of his twisted body about to lauch the sling shot to the target. The figure is accurately observed Caarar marble associated with nobility, heroism and status.

The insulted Eros then prepared two arrows: one of gold and one of lead. The Cupid shot Apollo with the gold arrow, instilling in the god a passionate love for Daphne. Then shot Daphne with the lead arrow, instilling in her a hatred for Apollo. They were evenly matched in the race until Eros intervened, Apollo wanted to pursued Daphne. However, she pleaded to her father, the river god Ladon, and Ge for help. So they decided to change her into a tree where she wouldn’t be found by Apollo.

When you look carefully on the sculpture you see the moment of transformation is shown and Daphne cries out in surprise and alarm. You can see her finger and hair starting change into leaves and the bark start to appear on her body.

The body of both figures have an open pose. You can see that Apollo is showing the pursuing daphne, with transforming into a tree. Both of the figures have accurately observed anatomical details of the nature forms are well observed.

The figures doesn’t engage with the viewer so we know that this isn’t suppose to lure use in. The bodies of the sculpture is twisting showing the transformation happening. The figure is showing a dramatic movement of Apollo running towards Daphne and the pose of her transforming into a tree.

Intention All of these painting are all historical painting involve with very historical painting that’s are all mythological story. We get to see the story and find different meaning and hidden message. The way these painting portrays story into a image but in a frozen time and spotting little meaning to describe the story in full. These panting and sculpture makes me explore a wider imagination for me poster and leaflet.

Title I would like to pick • • • • • • • •

Magical art Venus and the gods Hidden secrets The tale of the painting Storytime Seeking tales Mysterious Mythological tales

These are the 6 Title I would like to add onto my Poster. I like both of Venus and the gods and seeking tale. The reason I like ‘Venus and the god’ is because it’s simple and straight to the point. Therefore, it would catch peoples attention to the poster. Unfortunately, it could get boring. Therefore, I picked another one I like to debate, which title I like to use onto my poster. I picked ‘Seeking tale’ because the majority of the art was to gain know of story’s that may or may not be true. This title speaks a story to the audience to my poster. Overall, I believe I like the my font title to be ‘Hidden Secrets’ since most of these paintings do hold a secret once you first see it, which need to be investigated before knowing what it really means.

With these font, I choice different theme so I could explore the range of font that would help me find the right font with my poster. I put together different style of font that fit that type of category of poster. I got the Ancient Roman typography, so I’m able to see the historic way of the typography. I want to compare the Ancient Roman with modern typography, so I could see the evolution and change has been over the years. The changes that has been done are more bigger, round or more sharper on the tip. The ‘Nirvana’ fit this band theme, since they’re a rock band, they need something that fits there band and them. The added a symbol to make a name for themselves. The font isn’t hard to read, which makes people not confused on what there band name mean. The colour fit together carefully with the bright yellow font and plane black background. The background brighten up the font to be more visible and grabs us into there name. The movie poster called ‘Fight club’ are match the scene of the character on the cover. It seems they been illustrated and have a spotted fade like the paint brush ran out of paint and make the spotted ends. The head on the back seem to be the same person, but angled differently and the colour of this person is different and they match together with font and with the effect of the font being painted to make the stoke illusion. The graffiti is more expressive than the other poster font, since it fill the whole poster. The way the font is styles similar to the bull in the poster makes a good combination of the shape of the bull being sharpe edges and creating this with the font to not be too confusing and the colour is white, which makes sense on brightening the poster, but they put a shadow to make it pop out like it’s 3D so it able to stand out and not be blending with the background. The time magazine is formal and simple, since it magazine about politics. Also, the font seem to be roman inspired so it has history and doesn’t take too much space and is thinner. The colour fit the boarder of this magazine and explore has a matching to make it not too complicated and simple.

These are all very different style of font that I would use for my poster. I wanted to explore different style and try to do the font myself as well.

The first font is from a website called https://www.dafont.com/ this design is an inspiration of the Ancient Roman. I always want to explore the history first to have my own visual of this art work. I like the way it pattern like the E reminds me of chicken feet and it feel appropriate for my poster since I’m looking at art history.

The second font is created by me. I use abode illustrator to created this. The way I wanted this font was to make it look pirate and edges and look historic. I choice to have a red outline because it would bring out the font with this blue perl filling and make it look 3D almost.

This font is from https://www.dafont.com/ as well and this is more modern and sporty than the other one I picked. I wanted to explore shapes and style. I like this because it would stand out and not hid in with the poster.

Lastly, I created another title using illustrator and make it more simple than the other, but I added something that would represent the the title name and what I’m trying to go for. I added a key that replace the T on the secrets. I tried to create the key on illustrator by using letter and number to make this shape. I wanted to spread the secrets out more so it more visible than the hidden to so the detail of this font.

This poster is created for the louvre poster, which they used Liberty leading the people who was created by Eugène Delacroix. This work seems to capture the top bit of Delacroix painting. They show the leading people and the french flag. This painting must capture many people, since it represent france history through there hard time they had to face. The way they put the text not on the centre to hid Liberty, but this picture is for to represent this lady to catch people attention to make the meaning of France historical painting is showing many relevant work that has been produce in there museums. The typography colour is white since the picture of this is dark than the original and if they used black the picture wouldn’t stand out as much as it is now. We can see the body of the text, which the font is modern and make the attraction of the poster engaged to this era where most people like thing simple and modern.

This poster is a magazine that was created in the 20s, the time of jazz. I loved to explore the history of the posters and I came across this poster. This poster remind me of Picasso or Marc work with the shapes and they way the colour goes. The way that Picasso and Marc work are both shaped with interesting shapes around the face/animal and the colour that makes the work follow around and combine. With each other.

Picasso

Marc

I believe this work gives the feeling of the 1920 era. I like the colour combination and the way its mix match with the newspaper lettering and the solid colours of yellow and red that reminds me of autumn or its about love since there is a heart shape. I like the way the typography stands out and makes a stand with this magazine, but doesn’t over run it with too much information and hid the art work.

Movie Poster This poster catches people attention because its 3 women walking strongly with confidence and it feels really important. We see them with there head up and they are the centre of the attention of this movie. By judging there clothes this people are dressing smartly and it seems they working in the 50s or 60s on the way the clothes it pattern and the way there hair is stylised. The background shows many details with rocket, American flags and a building with a name called NASA. NASA is a space station that involves on looking closely at space and technology that might perhaps change the world.

I like this poster because of the meaning it bring to female, male, the black community and around the world. They made use remember the importance of the workplace isn’t your identity, but the hard work and talent you bring to it. I want to bring to to my poster to make people understand that art is not just to glances, but to find the meaning behind the arts.

The title is very simplistic and tell us a lot with ‘ Hidden Figures’. The way that ‘figures’ is larger than the ‘hidden’ word. I think this movie is manly focus on the figures, as it telling us that this is involving math, which they us to send the space ship to space and back to earth. I guess the word ‘hidden’ is to represent these women, since they are women and black. In this time period in America these women were oppressed on hiding in the background from the world. They were just nothing more than Black female to this country back in that day, until these 3 women stood there ground and start to change their world in there work places. This helped many women in the future throughout their workplace.

All of these picture inspire me to try a new technique of the glitch this is mainly used on genre that are horror or action. I have two different type of glitch, which are the colour glitch from 'wake' and 'ghost shell'. Glitch that are more shuttle and one colour, which are 'unfriended' and 'grave encounters’. Wake is more illustrated of a glitch through the middle of the model face that makes the poster more interesting and appealing to the eye. It seem that the man is breaking connect as if he’s a hologram person or losing connect to the world. Ghost shell seem to tell the story that this movie could be about technology and something futuristic like Robert or a hologram person like she a technology. With grave encounters the glitch are more natural to the screen and it not a highly bad glitch. It seem that this is about recording ghost with the camera and once they found the magnetic wave is effect which makes the glitch once the ghost is caught on camera. Unfriended has a glitch across the face with a girl, since it a horror movie you could expect that the movie involves with spirts. I like how it stutter in a high frequency that’s involves a story to express the movie without saying what it is, which engages the audience to watch what has happened to her.

MASP Art gallery MASP Art Gallery is very different to historic art museum, where the painting are hanged on the wall and having a beautiful interior on the wall and columns. However, this art pieces shows the highlight of the art, so it doesn’t distract over eye and make us focus toward the painting.

Museum of Fine art, Budapest This Museum holds many other type of art pieces like sculpture work. The painting are hanged on the wall and the inside of them building is outstandingly beautiful with the light wall to bring the light to sine the room and the window with beautiful colour and large to brighten up the room. The columns with interesting detailing showing the experience and hard work they put to create something so elegant. The space making it like you in a beautiful castle and walking toward a ball room to find your prince/princess and making you feel all sort of emotion. The way this museum making me feel is like having a dream house or like your dreaming.

My exhibition My design of the exhibition gallery seem to be simple to go around and find things easily. I made room for sculpture works to be separated from the paint work. I wanted the exhibition to feels comfortable and free flowing. I decided to colour code different section for the years that’s similar to national gallery of art in london. I also wanted to add a cafÊ so people are able to dine and have somewhere to eat close by.

Inside of the exhibition

I used photoshop to create these painting onto the wall and make the sculpture seem well placed together. I pick the birth of venus, venus, Cupid, folly and time and Apollo and Daphne. I used photo to place these painting on the wall and make the sculpture to seem standing there realistically. For the sculpture I need to create a shadow to make it as if actually there. I used the paint brush and used the colour black, but I put the opacity into 50% to have that realistic shadow of that transparent of the shadow. For the painting I got a frame and took the picture I wanted to use and put the layer on top to show and make it look like it hanging on the wall. I did this by using the control button and place it like it hanging onto the wall.
