Band of the Month

Buckle Up and Take a Ride with:

Pasenger

P

asenger is a new band that has old roots to the San Antonio rock scene, going as far back as 1996. The Meek brothers, Jim and Tom played in the group “Meek.” Meek once played with bands like Sevendust, Snot, System of a Down, and even Motley Crue. Well they have a new project and it’s called “Pasenger.” A five piece band with Tom Meek on drums, Mike Cross on bass. Deric Wynn plays lead guitar and Jim Meek is on vocals and keys to complete the full range of sound this band gives.

Band of the Month

Q: When did you know you were ready to take the leap from a heavy band like Meek to making and producing original music like Pasenger? we as people evolve and so does the music we create. Pasenger is a journey into a different direction for all of us. I think the fact that its not as heavy is just a reflection of being in a different place in life. The intensity is still there its just not as heavy.

Q: The band has a lot of experience, was it a smooth transition to get everyone on the same page in Pasenger? it has been very natural. Everyone in this band is mature and intelligent. we respect each other and don’t fight.... that makes things a lot easier. Q: What bands do you like to play with? Anyone that is interesting really. Sounds under Radio, Pop Pistol, When good friends become strangers, Daylight broadcast, just to name a few.

Q: Do you have a favorite venue you prefer to play at in San Antonio? It sounds the best at The Scout bar, We love the White Rabbit, and the Small club gigs like Wise Guys, Bitter end, and Espana are super fun. We really don’t have a favorite. Pasenger loves traveling... Toronto was awesome and Lake Charles is always a good time. Q: What bands influence Pasenger? That’s always an interesting question and hard to pinpoint. We are into a wide array of influences but over all it really comes down to good melodies, interesting words, and catchy hooks. Q: Is there a studio album in the works? Yes, we are currently chipping away in the lab as we speak. It will be out in 2010

Top 21 BANDS

an Antonio has very talented and creative bands. For the past couple of years, there have been some really good bands that have emerged and have made their mark on the local scene. Not only is it difďŹ cult to have a good sounding band, just getting gigs is hard to do in San Antonio. (I) hate to say it but cover bands seem to get more respect from venues. 21inSA.com will be ranking bands every month. Rankings are based upon popularity, originality, longevity and merchandising. We focus on bands that have been playing since 2006 to present.
