SHANGHAI GOLF & TRAVEL SHOW 2013 SIGT mission
SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL GOLF AND TRAVEL
Shanghai International Golf and Travel takes places on December 5-8th, 2013, at the same dates as the Shanghai International Shopping and Services Show, at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.
Golf and travel in China: a fast growing market
Over the past several years, the golf market in China has increased significantly. This evolution coupled with China’s economic growth & the fact that the Chinese are keener on travelling abroad, promises a great future for the golf and travel industry in this country. The golf market, with an annual growing rate of 15%, was valued at $460 million in 2011, according to China Daily. Indeed, it is the fastest growing sport in China. In 1984, the first golf course opened in China. Now, three million regular players can enjoy the facilities of more than 600 golf courses all over the country. Golf is a sport but also a lifestyle appreciated by the Chinese, who like the fact that they can combine pleasure, business and travel. Over the years, Chinese people have become more willing to travel abroad and play golf at the same time.
SIGT aims to gather all things golf in one show. It will be the annual meeting place for the Chinese and expatriate golfers’ community, to learn about the latest news and to interact with professionals from golf courses, golf equipment and accessories brands, golf apparel and fashion companies, golf facilities management, golf resorts, to golf academies and golfing media.

Destination Golf announces its new representative for Netherlands
W
e’re delighted to announce the appointment of Maarten Hageman, who will assume the role of Destination Golf’s representative for the rapidly growing Dutch golf market.
Born and raised in Haarlem in the Netherlands, Maarten brings a wealth of experience to the table. His studies took him to Beverweert in Holland, St Clare’s in Oxford, Universitat de les Illes Balears in Mallorca, and an internship at Patagonia in Chile. Maarten has worked with VisitBritain as an Account Executive in Consumer Marketing, as well as for Tourism Ireland as a CRM & EMarketing Executive. His last job was as Manager of Communications for Golf in Holland and Play Golf in Holland. Maarten owns a travel blog (2travel4ever.com), and is currently setting up his own company in tourism marketing, communications and PR, as well as finishing his MSc thesis about golf tourist motivations, which will play an important role for Destination Golf.
Destination Golf recently attended the IAGTO Golf Travel Awards at the historic Tarragona Placa De Toros in Costa Daurada, Barcelona. Established in 2000, they are widely regarded as the official annual awards for the golf tourism industry to recognise hotels, resorts and destinations that have provided an exceptional golfing experience to the golf traveller. Our main feature for this edition unveils all of these winners from around the globe for 2013. Our golf club feature for this issue brings us to the brilliantly named Cape Kidnappers Golf Club at Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand. Recently crowned ‘Golf Resort of the Year 2013’ at the IAGTO Awards, it’s jaw-dropping location along a clifftop provides an irresistable golfing experience. Our first resort feature takes us to Hotel Quinta da Marinha Resort, situated between the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the luxuriant green of the Sintra Hills outside Cascais in Lisbon. This resort is a unique balance of good taste and service, which is hugely popular with golfers. Our second resort feature brings us to the Westin Golf Resort & Spa in Costa Rica, an eco-friendly retreat in an exotic location. Enjoy!
