estination Golf is thrilled to welcome Aidan Bradley to our team of contributors as our Official Golf Course Photographer. Widely recognised as among the best in his trade, Aidan’s golf course images regularly feature in golf magazines and coffee table books around the world. As for us – our ‘Picture Perfect’ section will be converted into an art gallery to display some of Aidan’s stunning photography from around the globe – starting with some amazing images of Hawaii and the State of Virginia. Originally from Cork in Ireland, Aidan now resides in Santa Barbara, California, from where his work takes him to places that the most passionate golfer dreams of: Saint Andrews in Scotland, Augusta National in Georgia, Ballybunion in Ireland, and The Challenge on the island of Lanai. Whatever the assignment, Aidan’s focus on light and the surrounding natural environment consistently produces images that evoke a mood even non-golfers find attractive and compelling. Our travelling duo of Andrew and Paul Marshall have recently attended a Press Trip to Belgium, but we’ll keep that report for Issue 11. In this edition, the Marshall brothers are reporting about ‘The Magnificent Seven’ in Gran Canaria – voted Golf Destination of the Year 2013 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).

One of the most beautiful marinas in Catalonia, Port Aiguadolc Sitges is a haven for those who enjoy excellent food or maybe sipping an exotic cocktail whilst taking in the tranquil scene of boats gently swaying on their moorings. The marina boasts two excellent hotels, a Pacha nightclub and a large selection of quality restaurants which serve something for everyone whether it be international or local seafood cuisine. Gaudi & Barcelona “The combination of original design, interesting shaped stonework, and vibrant colours in Gaudi’s work give the viewer a truly breath-taking visual experience.” Gaudi’s work is admired by architects around the World as being one of the most unique and distinctive architectural styles. His work has greatly influenced the face of Barcelona architecture and you will see, from the very beginning his designs were different from those of his contemporaries. Gaudi’s work was greatly influenced by forms of nature and this is reflected by the use of curved construction stones, twisted iron sculptures, and organic-like forms. Gaudi also adorned many of his buildings with coloured tiles arranged in mosaic patterns. This added another important dimension to his buildings which is so often overlooked by architects the use of colour. The combination of original design, interesting shaped stonework, and vibrant colours in Gaudi’s work give the viewer a truly breath-taking visual experience. His masterpiece is the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona – one of the most visited monuments in Catalonia which is still being constructed. Most of his work is based in Barcelona – and other Gaudi designs like Casa Mila and Park Guell prove popular. Between 1984 and 2005, seven of his works were declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Girona & The Dali Triangle “Girona is worth a visit at any time of year, offering gastronomy at its very best and some delightful terrace bars to pass the time of day.” Girona, the capital of the Costa Brava has all the charm of a large city but without the crowds; a very “human-sized” city that will leave you walking around awestruck with your eyes wide open and your mouth agape at all it has to offer: its streets, festivals, cultural activities, restaurants, tourist services and events. Girona is worth a visit at any time of year, offering gastronomy at its very best and some delightful terrace bars to pass the time of day. The Dali Triangle includes Cadaques, Figueres and the lesser-known Púbol. They’re great places to visit to enjoy Costa Brava art, local food and the sea. Portlligat, Dali’s House in Cadaques, is a group of fishing houses which Dali reformed in order to install his workshop and place of residence. The Dali Museum in Figueres, originally a theatre, houses the spectacular building designed by the man himself. It’s the most well-known of the three points of the Dali Triangle in the Costa Brava. Púbol Castle, close to L’Estartit, is the last dot to connect the Dali triangle in the Costa Brava. It’s a small fortification from the 11th century, which Dali gave to his muse Gala in order to fulfil his promise to make her the queen of a castle.

The interactive museum, renovated in 2010, provides a high-tech view into the club, with massive touch screens, interactive wall spaces, audiovisual displays and more to allow visitors to explore arcane aspects of the team. The best bits of the museum itself are the photo section, the goal videos and the views out over the stadium. The visitor experience gives the chance to walk through the most important areas of the stadium: the away team changing room and the players’ tunnel, the dugouts, the press room, commentators box and of course the Museum.

Costa Brava The Costa Brava is one of the most beautiful areas of Catalonia and probably the whole of Spain. Its coast is lapped by the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean and its interior overlooked by the spectacular and mighty Pyrenees. The stylish central area of Baix Empordà between Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Pals is popular with those from Barcelona and boasts some wonderfully scenic stretches of rolling coastline around Palamós, the beaches and villages of inland Palafrugell and hill-top Begur. The more rugged Alt Empordà in the north is marked by the broad sweep of the Golf de Roses, site of a nature reserve, the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, and the alluring peace of the ancient Greek and Roman settlement of Empúries, and extends to the bohemian Cadaqués, which attracts an arty crowd paying tribute to Salvador Dalí; the artist lived most of his life in the labyrinthine warren of converted fishermen’s huts in a neighbouring cove, which is now a fabulous museum to visit.
