EASTERN BAY

WATER AND RECREATIONAL TERMINAL

The focus of the study is on Mumbai and its saturated transport infrastructure and attempts to present an architectural solution in water transport Public water transport can be the ideal solution keeping in view the city’s water dominated context It may be paradoxical to consider water transport as an alternative at this stage as it has not been developed to any meaningful level anywhere

VIEW 1

in the country as on date. Mumbai, a city built on strong maritime beginnings, has now become disconnected from its roots. Majority of Mumbai’s waterfronts are disconnected from its citizens. The project attempts to re-establish the lost connections in the urban fabric of Mumbai by facilitating interaction with its waterfronts.

Mumbai has an inherent geographical advantage and can easily capitalise on water transport. Decongesting existing transport infrastructure, Reduction in travel time and eco friendly are just some of the advantages of water transport. It requires a fraction of investment

and can be easily scaled up. The project is set to be a multi functional maritime hub in South Mumbai . It includes transit ferry services, Ro-Ro ferry services, recreational programs and a marina.

SEMESTER: 7 | PROJECT: HOUSING | LOCATION: URAN | SOFTWARE USED: REVIT, LUMION

URBAN HOUSING COMPLEX URBAN COLLECTOR

Housing as a concept has always been highly contextual and it needs to be that way to absorb the character and aspirations of the local culture and flavor that stems for the various forms of activities that comprise lifestyles of the people who constitute community agglomerations of a specific kind. Housing typologies

today are blatantly produced without any regard to the site response. The academic studio demanded a response to the context as well as the local Development Control Regulations. The project was to be designed keeping in mind the applicable regulations.

The project consists of 154 units of 1.5 BHKs, 2 BHKs, and 3 BHK Duplex. The typology requirement has been carefully deviced after through site study. The site being in Uran, demanded different requirments as compared to a site in Mumbai. Apart from the dwelling units this project also has a small

commercial complex and frontage shops. This acts as the center of public activity in the small town of Uran. Amenities provided in the structure have also been divided into public and private. The public amentites are open to all and acts as the urban center of Uran.

Design Challenge: To build a new Bharat Bhavan in the context of 2020, encapsulating things that have Made India and are Made in India. This thought can extend to its art forms, to people, culture, technologies, foods, techniques, theatre, performing arts, dance, rituals, film, music, fine arts and a lot more.

Welcome to the centre of Mind and Aqua Healing for the new age India, the Na.M.A.S.T.E. Bhavan. RAILWAY STATION SCHEME MASTER PLANNING A GROWTH HUB IN NERAL

The IRSDC (Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited) is committed to develop Railway Stations into a growth Hub with the primary objective of augmenting and improving passenger related amenities at stations in a holistic manner. It is looking forward to adopt the latest technology and constantly endeavors to provide environment and user friendly facilities to passengers using these railway stations. Neral railway

station is a junction where Mumbai Suburban Local trains, Outstation express trains as well as Narrow guage toy trains halt. The toy train runs between Neral and Matheran, a nearby hill station.

Currently, the infrastructure at Neral Railway station is collapsing due to the rise in the number of tourists as well as the resident population of the town. The station lacks basic amenities required for it to be fully functional. Neral is soon likely to have its own municipal body which would require

a governing town hall which is currently missing in the city. It also lacks ample public spaces and gardens which are a necessity in any urban setting. The design intervention aims at resolving these issues by providing: 1. Roof garden 2. Town hall 3. Dedicated market area

CENTRE FOR ARTS AND URBAN STUDIES FACILITATOR TO THE SCHEME OF THINGS IN AN URBAN CONTEXT The history of Jaipur brings forth unique aspects through various backgrounds and mediums in generating the meaning of the urban context. Local arts and crafts, Sculpture, Astronomy & Occult Sciences, are a few layers of unique productions of Jaipur. The site is adjoining the Jawahar Kala Kendra, the ambassador of Art and Crafts in the region. It is

a modern model of the urban aspiration regarding arts for the state of urbanism that existed four decades back. The design program serves as an extension to the JKK model, to engage with a larger audience through the medium of art and science.

The design program fills the urban void of the extended city of Jaipur and also adds to the functioning of the adjoining Jawahar Kala Kendra. The design responds the the various Urban Factors active in the area. The program aims to cater to a wider demographic of people and not only the people related to the field of Arts. The program includes an Urban stargazing facility

as well as spaces for visual and performing arts. The design celebrates the process gone behind developing the final art output. The planning of the spaces enables the visitor to simultaneously view the exhibition and the workshop spaces. The desisgn also incorporated various sustainable design strategies to resist the high temperatures of Jaipur.

A PLACE IN THE SHADE LANDSCAPE DESIGN PROJECT FOR THE MUMBAI ZOO

This proposal for the Mumbai Zoo Landscape Design is a collaborative project with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. The proposal was accepted and it is an on-going project. The initial concept stages of design are shown here. The brief of the project is to create informative spaces which would promote education and conservation of the natural landscapes in India.

Being in line with the concept of the zoo ‘Living Together’, the landscape is divided into Mosaics. The Zones are connected to each other by an Installation thread . The different zones reflect the different landscape typologies in India. PHYSICAL MODEL OF THE LANDSCAPE PROPOSAL

36

The resemblance to various landscapes is created using only naitive ecology and hardscapes. The design is focusing on edutainment for the general public.
