RAILWAY STATION SCHEME MASTER PLANNING A GROWTH HUB IN NERAL

The IRSDC (Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited) is committed to develop Railway Stations into a growth Hub with the primary objective of augmenting and improving passenger related amenities at stations in a holistic manner. It is looking forward to adopt the latest technology and constantly endeavors to provide environment and user friendly facilities to passengers using these railway stations. Neral railway station is a junction where Mumbai Suburban Local trains, Outstation express trains as well as Narrow guage toy trains halt. The toy train runs between Neral and Matheran, a nearby hill station.

Currently, the infrastructure at Neral Railway station is collapsing due to the rise in the number of tourists as well as the resident population of the town. The station lacks basic amenities required for it to be fully functional. Neral is soon likely to have its own municipal body which would require

a governing town hall which is currently missing in the city. It also lacks ample public spaces and gardens which are a necessity in any urban setting. The design intervention aims at resolving these issues by providing: 1. Roof garden 2. Town hall 3. Dedicated market area

CENTRE FOR ARTS AND URBAN STUDIES FACILITATOR TO THE SCHEME OF THINGS IN AN URBAN CONTEXT The history of Jaipur brings forth unique aspects through various backgrounds and mediums in generating the meaning of the urban context. Local arts and crafts, Sculpture, Astronomy & Occult Sciences, are a few layers of unique productions of Jaipur. The site is adjoining the Jawahar Kala Kendra, the ambassador of Art and Crafts in the region. It is a modern model of the urban aspiration regarding arts for the state of urbanism that existed four decades back. The design program serves as an extension to the JKK model, to engage with a larger audience through the medium of art and science.

The program includes an Urban stargazing facility

as well as spaces for visual and performing arts. The design celebrates the process gone behind developing the final art output. The planning of the spaces enables the visitor to simultaneously view the exhibition and the workshop spaces. The desisgn also incorporated various sustainable design strategies to resist the high temperatures of Jaipur.

Existing plot adjoining the Jawahar Kala Kendra originally housed the Shilpgram which complimented the Jawahar Kala Kendra program.

Extending the existing grid of the Jawahar Kala Kendra on to the new block.

Removing the center block to create a public plaza in the center which has direct visual and physical connections with the JKK and serves as the main access to all spaces.

The towers rise up to break the predominant horizontality in the site. It creates a unique form which stands out from the surrounding structures.

A PLACE IN THE SHADE LANDSCAPE DESIGN PROJECT FOR THE MUMBAI ZOO

This proposal for the Mumbai Zoo Landscape Design is a collaborative project with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. The proposal was accepted and it is an on-going project. The initial concept stages of design are shown here. The brief of the project is to create informative spaces which would promote education and conservation of the natural landscapes in India.

Being in line with the concept of the zoo ‘Living Together’, the landscape is divided into Mosaics. The Zones are connected to each other by an Installation thread . The different zones reflect the different landscape typologies in India. PHYSICAL MODEL OF THE LANDSCAPE PROPOSAL

18

The resemblance to various landscapes is created using only naitive ecology and hardscapes. The design is focusing on edutainment for the general public.

OUT-HOUSE DESIGN EXTENSION TO AN EXISTING HOUSEMÖBIUS HOUSE by BEN VAN BERKEL

The exercise begins with studying and analysing the concept and the methodology of design by the Architect behind the project. The next step is to create an extension to the house in tandem with the design language of the existing structure. The house under consideration is The Mobius House by Architect Ben Van Berkel in Netherlands.

The concept of the Mobius House is based on the Mobius Strip, an un-orientable surface with only one surface. This concept is directly translated to shape the home around the daily life of the residents. The design of the extension is based on fulfilling the required PHYSICAL MODEL HIGHLIGHTING THE 2 MÖBIUS STRIPS

program by creating another mobius strip intertwined with the original strip. The new program is placed along the new mobius strip. The new program contains a meeting room, studio and a viewing gallery.

SEMESTER: 05 | PROJECT: DOCUMENTATION | LOCATION: ELLORA | SOFTWARE USED: AUTOCAD, PHOTOSHOP

REDISCOVERING KAILASA ARCHITECTURAL DOCUMENTATION OF CAVE 16, ELLORA The largest monolithic sculpture in the world carved out of one single rock, Kailasanatha temple is considered as one of the most remarkable cave temples in India because of its size, architecture and sculptural treatment. This temple complex is a monolith composition scooped out from the rocky slopes of Ellora, creating a pattern of open and closed, solid

and void, light and dark. The intent of this project is to open the door to the past

by exhibiting this fascinating structure through the help of drawings and models. The aim of such an attempt is to measure our own heritage, and in doing so, learn different facets ranging from history to construction detailing.

SITE TERRAIN STUDIES AND DESIGN ANALYSIS OF LANDSCAPE TYPOLOGIES AND THEIR APPLICATION IN DESIGN

The exercise adopts the technique of Mapping introduced by Ian McHarg, that focusses on ‘pre-design’ where the site is mapped through various layers formulating a data set. The data maps are further comprehended with respect to the Design Aspirations which become Value Sytems. Based on the appropriateness of the site for all these Value Systems, Suitability Maps are generated in order to identify areas that suit the design criteria as best, moderate and least suitable. Further, the various landscape typologies were studied and then used in design.

TYPOLOGY- Swamp

TYPOLOGY STUDY Studying and analysing the layers of various landscape typologies through models and diagrams. These studies were then applied in designing the landscape for one plot of dimension 40m x 30m. TYPOLOGY- Thicket
