In between, you’ll discover the latest in jewellery news and trends, as well as getting a sneak peek at what’s in store in The Fashion Room at Weirs this summer.

HOMEGROWN Meet five of our favourite Irish designers fresh from The Fashion Room.

We’re all about supporting homegrown talent, and it’s never been easier thanks to these Irish designers. Chupi, the pioneering label led by Chupi Sweetman, has taken the beauty of nature, coated it in gold and made from silver. Her new ‘Stars’ collection is at the top of our wish list this season. Meanwhile, Julie Danz and Vincent Tynan make up Dublin-based design duo Juvi, who always pack a punch with their colour-pop pendants and cocktail rings. This season they champion coral with a fluid and ethereal sea-inspired collection. Irish and Swedish watchmaker duo Ansley is new to The Fashion Room at Weirs this summer. Expect expert craftsmanship and classic design - each watch has an interchangeable strap, so treating yourself to one of these timepieces is a real investment. Perhaps it’s the rise of The Wild Atlantic Way, but we’re slightly obsessed with all things maritime this summer. Alex and Ani’s new collection is a treasure trove of mermaids, golden seashells and pearl charms. Brand new to The Fashion Room is Swedish super brand Tom Hope, whose sailing rope and anchor-inspired bracelets are popping up all over our Insta-feeds. Even Chupi is in on the nautical trend, launching a new shell collection, while Thomas Sabo’s starfish charm is one of their sweetest yet. Want to ride the wave? Think sailor stripes, blue hues, shimmering pearlescents and silvery greys for the ultimate in oceanic-chic.

We meet three of the city’s finest to find out what makes their watch choices tick.

Editor Mike Sheridan is somewhat of a watch obsessive. “I have six watches and some I use for casual daywear, others look perfect just peeking out from a shirt cuff with a blazer.” For our shoot, he chose a chunky Hugo Boss watch – it’s the kind of style he usually gravitates towards. “I’m all about keeping it simple. I don’t like a silver or gold strap – I prefer leather. This is the kind of watch I can wear day-to-day – I’m a slim-fit jeans and t-shirt guy.”

His schedule right now is pretty hectic, having just launched a new venture with his friend (and now business partner) Adrian Collins. “We’ve created a new men’s site called The Fourth Wall. We’ve pitched it as somewhere between The Ringer and Esquire. We both felt there was a gap in the Irish market for a male-focused lifestyle site that covered style and fitness heavily.”

What’s on the Entertainment.ie Editor’s radar? “I listen to a lot of podcasts – Bill Simmons, Joe Rogan, Bill Burr. Music-wise my training dictates my playlist. I’m loving the new Haim stuff and I’m a huge fan of The Foo Fighters and Johnny Cash.” We’re halfway through 2017 now, so what has been the highlight so far? “I’d say sitting down with Keanu Reeves earlier this year. I grew up watching his films, so to get to chat to him was surreal. He’s an icon for guys my age.”

It’s no overstatement to say that Adam Gaffey is single-handedly reshaping the face of men’s fashion in Dublin. The 24-year-old’s publication MFI has catapulted him straight into style royalty both here and abroad. The men’s magazine is a showcase of the best in Irish style and fashion photography, and Adam has been its driving force since inception. He’s known for his adventurous and fun sense of style (he’s rocked a cape or two in his time), but when it comes to his choice in watches he’s a minimalist at heart. “Personally, I like a watch to be slim and lightweight. Monochrome is safe, but it’s always attractive and it can be worn with anything. You can’t go wrong. That’s why I chose this Hugo Boss piece today. It’s such a classic.”

What’s on the agenda for the MFI team right now? “We’re currently preparing for London Fashion Week. We’re also working hard on the Autumn Winter '17 issue, due out this September.”

Seeing the magazine go from strength to strength has been Adam’s 2017 highlight so far. “I was going home on the bus a few weeks ago when I noticed a very smartly dressed guy across from me reading MFI. It was surreal – I’ll never forget that feeling.”

When Dublin GAA Footballer and entrepreneur Philly isn’t on the pitch or working on his new businesses and charity, you’ll find him ogling his next watch purchase. “I’m a bit of a fanatic. I’d describe my personal style as different, and the same goes for my taste in timepieces. I like watches that are unusual. This piece stood out immediately for me – the detail and craftsmanship is incredible. It’s on my wishlist, for sure.”

The sports star has made a seamless progression from pitch to burgeoning business. So, what’s been happening and what can we expect from Philly over the next few months?

(Besides an All-Ireland win, obviously.) “Well, my Fitfood range is nearly ready to go into retail and I’m looking at a fast food concept restaurant, too. My Bedo7 fitness club in Charlestown is doing extremely well, so I’m looking to continue to grow the membership. My charity Half Time Talk is nearly ready to launch, too. It’s pretty busy right now.”

Does he ever take a break? “Yes! That’s something I’m really excited about at the moment, actually. I find it impossible to get away with all of my football commitments, so I’m looking forward to taking a real break with my girlfriend, Sarah, to Rome this summer.”

MEET ME IN THE MORNING This little café, tucked away in Portobello, is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it favourite amongst locals. They keep it simple here – just a handful of dishes each day, served up in a pared-back setting – but boy, do they get it right. The Nut Eile, a posh take on Nutella on toast, is unbeatable – roasted hazelnuts and raw cacao slathered across slices of toasted fresh sourdough and sprinkled with sea salt. For savoury lovers, their eggs and chard on sourdough is too good to share, especially when topped off with a side of chorizo. The coffee is strong and roasted to perfection.

ROBERTA’S Anyone who has hoped Temple Bar could be great again has had all their wishes granted with the grand arrival of Roberta’s restaurant. The newest sibling to The Dean, Peruke and Periwig and Angelina’s family is not dissimilar in its fare - steaks, pizzas and fresh pasta served up with a side of panache. The real treat here is the setting. From the neon signage and tiled entrance, to the giant domed bar, garden and plush booths that were made for brunching the weekend away in, we have our new summer spot signed, sealed and delivered.

WILDE AT THE WESTBURY Homed in The Westbury Hotel, this buzzy brasserie is a dreamy concept. Half indoors, half al fresco, covered in greenery, plush 1930s art deco-inspired fixtures and fittings, Wilde is the closest thing we have to a Parisian café in the city. And the food? Think hearty portions of thick-cut truffle chips, superfood salads and steaks, all made with the very best in Irish produce. Make it your business to sample their bespoke G&T menu too, in particular the Gunpowder Irish Gin with grapefruit peel, cinnamon and juniper berries – simply delicious.

URCHIN As creative cuisine goes, Urchin tops the bill. The beach-inspired cocktail bar with small bites serves up tasting portions of fresh fish with a side order of the unexpected. Go in with an open mind and be set to sample Irish sea urchin (naturally), Irish wagyu and Irish skate with an oriental slaw served with a ponzu jam on banana leaf. The cocktails here are a revelation. We recommend the Mango Smash – made with Prizefight Whiskey, mango, mint, lemon and simple syrup, it’s the perfect way to while away an evening.
