IN THE WORDS OF THE COPYWRITER The reason I was freelancing as a writer the last couple of years is twofold: On one hand, my areas of expertise and interest (arts, culture, lifestyle, etc.) don’t tend to align with what most outlets in Costa Rica seem to care about. On the other, most local opportunities dealing with any area related to communications go by a generalized, volume-based approach that doesn’t really favor expertise in any way. Naturally, I had grown disenchanted with the way creative work is treated in the country, so my conclusion was to bury any expectation and try to position my talents elsewhere. When I saw the opening at 2Costa Rica Real Estate I was both excited and skeptical, as it seemed like a role that truly aligned with my interests and qualifications, but after years of sporadic LinkedIn applications, I had been self-conditioned to hope for the worst and wait for the inevitable “gotcha” moment at some point in the interviewing process. It never happened. I’d lie if I write that I wasn’t still somewhat anxious the first day I came to the 2Costa Rica offices, but once I got to meet the rest of the marketing team something clicked. It wasn’t anything rational, really, since everything was laid out on the table from the first day, but getting to see first hand the commitment the company has to its philosophy in the Marketing Creativity Session was a game-changer for me. I come from a social sciences background, and something that I’ve taken as part of my mantra is the idea of horizontal relationships, of seeing eye-to-eye with whoever I’m talking to and paying close and genuine attention to their perspectives and where they’re coming from. From what I’ve seen so far, 2Costa Rica Real Estate has this concept as one of their core values. Everyone (myself included) has been exposed at some point to the clichés of what Real Estate is supposed to be: a “shark mentality” of “attacking” the customer; interactions being reduced to an almost confrontational affair. That’s not how things work in 2CRRE. The company prides itself on approaching things differently, of being an agent of change within the industry. Integrity and transparency thus become their flagships in this crusade towards shattered archetypes and a wholesome environment of shared knowledge. From the moment I set foot in their offices, my skill set has been upheld as the reason I’m there, and I’ve felt both the support and confidence that backs it.
