Dearest Conscious Life Friends It is with great sadness and love that we bid farewell to a beautiful lady who taught the world much about how to change our mindset, beliefs, and attract that which we want into our lives. She taught us how to heal our lives. Louise L. Hay, passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 90 on the 30 of August 2017. She will be sorely missed and we thank her for all the wisdom, love and light she has left this world with. We wish her love and light on her new journey in the next plane, where I know that she will be spreading love, light and wisdom. The team at Hay House, her publishing company, has shared with us and the world, their beautiful eulogy, talking about and celebrating her life and the beautiful person that she was. We know that many of you have been touched by Louise in some way in your lives. We have published their Eulogy for you to read in this month’s mag. I dedicate this month’s Ed’s letter to Louise. Spring is one of my favourite times of year, everything feels fresh and new, and as the days gradually grow longer, the possibilities for creating wondrous things and getting closer to reaching personal goals feel that much easier. I was reminded in the Connective Communication Course with Nianell this past weekend, just how important it is to maintain this mindset. There is no try… you either do something or you don’t. When we tell the universe that we are “trying to do XYZ thing/task/way of being” all we will get is the experience of trying – not necessarily succeeding. The Divine Creator and the Universe are always listening and the answer
to whatever we are asking for, is always YES. This is why it so important to be conscious of what we are thinking and saying to ourselves – is it in alignment with what we want to attract into our lives? So this brings me to the next question we humans like to ask – “So then why am I getting that which I don’t want in my life and none of what I want?” The answer to that is very simple, the deep beliefs that are held in your subconscious and your self talk are often not in alignment with what you wish to manifest. They are more powerful than your conscious thoughts. Many times they are in alignment, hence we also do get the wonderful things, experiences etc that we want. The problem is that we don’t get it all the time. I will give you an example, lets say fictional Jane Doe would really like to be healthier and get into shape. Great goal, and easy to attain provided that she follows a healthier eating plan and works out regularly. So Jane starts on this path, but after a few days things are not working out as planned. She is finding that she can’t resist the afternoon packet of crisps, followed by chocolate. She starts skipping workouts because she overslept, or had too much work, or was too tired that day. Pretty soon she is back to her old ways. So… what just happened? Well, for Jane, lets say that she had a whole set of beliefs in her subconscious around her being unattractive, and having week will power. “I will never have a beautiful body” “I am ugly” “I never manage to stick to a healthy eating plan” etc Conscious Life Magazine
Looking objectively in like this, it is easy for us to see that these beliefs and self talk were her undoing. Each of us has a set of beliefs that doesn’t serve us. The trick is to listen to your self talk: what negative things are you saying to yourself? Simply notice them, like you notice clouds passing by in the sky. Don’t play into them, just let them pass on by. In that moment make the conscious choice to transform the thought into one that is positive, allowing the course of your self talk to change direction. Eg: “I can’t do this, I will fail” change to “I used to fail BUT I will do this one small step at a time: and show myself that I can succeed.” Do this each time you notice that you veer off the positive self talk course. Daily Positive Affirmations are a great way to work on changing your self talk. Louise L. Hay taught us a lot about the power of affirmations and has many books that help you master this. In addition to this it is very important to work with a practitioner trained in uncovering and pulling subconscious limiting belief systems. NLP and Theta Healing Practitioners work with this. I have personally found the latter to be very effective. Also, practice being grateful for what you already have – the more you are thankful, the more you attract. It’s a great way to end off your day. Last night I lay thanking the Creator of all that Is for each great thing in my life. Do yourself an immense favour and head over to www.hayhouse.com to check out the wealth of self help, inspirational and transformational books, audio books, cd’s, DVDs and products that Louise L. Hay’s Publishing House, Hay House, publishes. Conscious Life Magazine

By Lisa Raleigh If you feel the pillowy effects of hibernating a little more than anticipated, here are some of my tips to shrug off the chillier season.
Detox Let go of bad winter habits with a nutrientrich cleanse. Our bodies naturally preserve more energy in the cold, and with lower activity levels this can mean more fat storage. Skip the caffeine, wheat, refined foods, sugar, salt, red meat and fizzy drinks. In addition to prepping your body for summer exposure, you’re going to boost your energy levels exponentially too.
Conscious Life Magazine
Eat Your Greens Whilst this should be the norm year round, chances are you’ve been leaning towards denser, warmer foods to get you through winter. Since spring demands a boost in energy, boost your diet accordingly with more dark, leafy greens for concentrated vitamins K, C, E and many B vitamins, and minerals. Funny how warmer weather lets us encourage colder foods! Say yes to the return of fresh, nutrient-dense salads; a favourite tip of mine is to juice your vegetables for a powerhouse of nutrients in one cup.
Cut out the night cap Many of us are privy to a glass of wine or two before bed. If this is you, reconsider your habits as spring approaches by reducing your intake or saving it for the weekend. In can contribute significantly to sleep deprivation and dehydration – two things you don’t want to be tackling in spring.
Eat in season The foods that are fresh and in season are the ones you should be eating for maximum benefit in each season. If it flourishes in spring, it should be included in your spring diet. It’s hard to be a veggie expert and be selective at the supermarket when everything is on offer – hit your local farmer’s market, where the fresh produce is rightly limited to what Mother Nature has on offer this season.
Boost your brain & body first thing in the morning Shake your body out of sluggish winter sleep and get moving as you wake up. A brisk walk will do the trick, but if that’s too much to ask so early on in the day, practice inverted yoga poses like the ‘downward dog’, or even some light stretching and jumping jacks. A pleasant alternative is to invest in a mini-rebounder for 5 minutes of bouncing each morning. This will wake up both body and mind, kick-start your metabolism and awaken your body before eating – it is such an underrated activity!
Drink up Hydration is no less important in the chillier season, yet many of us drink far less water than necessary in winter months. With hotter weather on the way, hydration is a must: make sure you are meeting your minimum needs of 250mls water for every 10kgs of body weight, replenishing your body and skin for spring.
Turn in early If you’ve been doing all your socializing at night, make an effort to swap dinner dates for lunches and even an early morning workout. Making sure your nights are freed up for earlier dinners, down time and an earlier bed time is great for preparing for the early morning wakeups of spring and summer.
Wake up to natural light Sunlight is a powerful natural signal that can shift your circadian rhythms from drowsy to alert, whether you’re sleep-deprived or not. Skip the block out curtains and wake up to natural light, and you’ll rise more easily with the onset of spring.
Warm up to the outdoors For many of us, winter means too much time indoors, not enough vitamin D and lower energy levels. Make the most of the warmer weather – before it gets too hot – and step outside as often as you can. A ten minute walk between 11am-3.30pm is all it takes to replenish precious vitamin D levels – calibrating your mood and energy accordingly.
Get intense Very often, spring sneaks up on you, leaving you with less time than you thought to get fit. If that’s the case, make every workout count. Switch to compound exercises over isolated ones to torch more calories during strength workouts. Shake up a steady-state cardio routine with interval training, and include bursts of 1-minute sprints followed by 3minute recoveries help you burn fat rather than carbohydrates – your precious energy supplies. This type of HIIT training – in both cardio and strength – is known for getting the fastest results in the shortest space of time.

Exercising Body, Mind and Soul By Michael Howard
Exercising body, mind and soul makes for a happy life. This article describes three practices that work best for me. They are: peasant eating for body; mindfulness for mind and meditation for soul. Peasant eating Peasants were traditionally poor, smallholding subsistence farmers. We can’t all be subsistence farmers but we can all eat like peasants. Eating like a peasant means : Eating what is available This equates to flexibility and variety. When certain fruits or vegetables are in season, eat them. When they’re not, eat what is. The guideline is to eat what there is. Let your body go with the flow and find enjoyment in simplicity. Seek less enjoyment of fancy foods and you will grow to enjoy simple tastes.
Eating less Western society eats too much. We eat until we’re full or more. Often we waste. There’s a pandemic of obesity. Everyone knows that is not healthy. The body works better when it is used to having hunger satisfied yet not filled to the brim. And the body is not isolated from mind and soul, so your whole being benefits from eating less.
Fasting Once a year or so I do a three-day fast – three days with nothing but water. You shouldn’t try to do this while continuing your normal lifestyle. A water-only fast shuts the digestive system down and opens the mind to mystical consciousness. It has profound detoxing benefits on the mind, body and soul.
Being conscious of and grateful for the food’s taste and nutrition Peasants don’t take food for granted. They are grateful for what they get. Gratitude is a form of enthusiasm. The body that is used to being grateful for less is energetic and nonaddicted. It is free and easily satisfied no matter what circumstances occur.
Being informed of the source of the food ‘Peasant’ in this context does not mean uninformed or uneducated. Peasant eating is wise and informed. The commitment to this lifestyle is made out of an awareness of the Earth and its resources. We should eat with a sense of awe and wonder for the miracle of our existence, a sense of humility in the face of our smallness.
Mindfulness The practice of being mindful helps us think clearly. It consists of three steps. Be aware of your mental and emotional reactions We are physical beings. Our bodies and minds react chemically to inputs in the manner they have become accustomed to doing. We literally do carry around our baggage of the past. For example, defensive reactions due to childhood insecurities continue to repeat in life as inputs activate the same biological systems and neural paths associated with self-defence that habitually fired in the past.
The first step in mindfulness is to recognise these habitual reactions. The second step is to move away from the habitual reactions. This is the mind letting go. It may be helpful to actually picture this letting go. Some see the stuff floating past them in a slowflowing river. Others picture the thoughts and emotions as a parcel left at the door of God, although there need not be explicit religious imagery.
I personally simply turn inward through consciousness of my breath and a kind of inward gaze. The idea is to feel the habitual reactions pass by – to feel their grip release – at first maybe only a little bit. With years of mindfulness exercise you will feel the grip released completely. Like with any exercise, it takes time and commitment to see an improvement. The idea is to feel the habitual reactions pass by – to feel their grip release – at first maybe only a little bit. With years of mindfulness exercise you will feel the grip released completely. Like with any exercise, it takes time and commitment to see an improvement.
Respond appropriately in full awareness The third step is to decide on your response, and then respond. You may not always need to respond. The letting go of habitual reactions may very well also tell you it is not necessary to respond at all. The inner room may compel you to respond – but now in an appropriate manner. If anger is appropriate it will now be controlled and well directed. Whereas before your outburst may have been like a shotgun spray with collateral damage everywhere, you now fire one accurate strike with the appropriate calibre. Most often your response need not be personal. It can demand the justice or the attention it requires focused at the message not the messenger.
Pause and move away from these reactions – go to your ‘inner room’. This mindfulness practice may also be applied to thinking about problems which you have not been able to solve. It cleans the slate so that new creative perspectives can emerge.
The appropriate response is some combination of The Seven Aspects of Spiritual Intelligence, namely: • • • • • • •
Commitment Enthusiasm Openness Generosity Self-control Modesty Trust
Meditation Meditation is the most important practice. Without it the first two exercises are very difficult. With regular practice of meditation, peasant eating and mindfulness come naturally. The meditation I practice is simple and non-prescriptive. It is opening to the spiritual dimension of life. You need not be religious to meditate – in fact with time many of the religious doctrines you may have held will fall away. You need not even be spiritual when you start out – you only need to want to explore that dimension of reality. Something spiritual starts to happen to the mind that meditates. I call it opening to God. It is universal love – but you are welcome to call it what you want. I recommend twenty to twenty-five minutes of meditation twice a day. Eat like a peasant, or don’t eat at all before you meditate. I have been meditating for about twenty-three years to the guidelines of Centering Prayer. I have adapted these guidelines over the years. Here are my adapted guidelines: • • • •
Choose a short word as a symbol of your intention to open to spiritual reality. Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Introduce the symbolic word into your mind. When you become aware of thoughts, return ever-sogently to the symbolic word.
I wish you a happy life exercising body, mind and soul. You are welcome to get in touch with me if you want any more information on anything I’ve touched on in this article.
Manipulation Is Not Love When we say things like “if you’re not jealous, it’s not true love,” “if he really loves me he doesn’t need to spend time with anyone else,” or “love means guessing what the other person wants and needs,” we end up dealing with unfair and degrading situations in order to maintain a romantic bond that most of the time isn’t genuine. Love, like almost everything else in life, is learned. And sometimes we learn it in the wrong way. The romantic and illusory idea of love that is popular these days does little to help interpersonal relationships. The values found in healthy romantic relationships are the complete opposite of the values of passionate, all-ornothing love.
Love is one of the most powerful feelings in the world, and every person adds their own personal characteristics to it, as well as ideas that aren’t always completely true. The large majority of relationship problems come from highly unrealistic romantic demands on the relationship and on one’s partner. These distorted ideas of passionate love can compromise the relationship, even when the partners fit together well.
Characteristics of manipulation Manipulation occurs when one person exercises control over another person’s behavior. To do so, they use persuasion techniques to try and take away or condition that person’s judgment. Mental manipulation could be a particular form of selfishness. Manipulators will often shamelessly use their partners, with the narcissistic goal of obtaining more power or getting what they want. They might also use lies, seduction, or even coercion by threats or force to destabilize the victim. Manipulative people devise situations that will direct other people’s behavior towards their own benefit. If they’re really good at it, the person they’re manipulating won’t even realize that they’re being played. The people who are most likely to fall for manipulation by their partners tend to have a low selfesteem and present with feelings of guilt and inferiority. External factors that can influence the effectiveness of manipulation include the loss of a loved one, a breakup, divorce, and the loss of a job.
How to recognize a manipulator Knowing how to recognize a manipulator will save you a lot of frustration in your daily life. If your partner can’t bear to take “no” for an answer, and if you notice that they’re not reacting the way they normally do – or they even completely lose control – when you resist their attempts at persuasion, it’s a sign that they can’t stand not having influence over you. People who manipulate their partners love to show off their strength and prowess, and are rarely shy. They tend to blame others when they don’t get what they want. They don’t care about what they can offer or how they can help other people. Instead, they’re constantly focused on themselves and they don’t seem to know the meaning of the word reciprocity.
Love doesn’t understand manipulation. “Disturbing emotions and toxic relationships have been identified as risk factors in disease.” -Daniel GolemanThey always talk about themselves, and if they ever ask how you are our if you need anything, they’re not really interested. Also, you’ll notice that as you give into them, not only do they not thank you, but they just end up wanting more and more. These people tend to be highly insecure, but they try to present themselves as the complete opposite, using self-centered and dominant attitudes to hide their fears. The first step to correct a manipulative situation is to become aware that you’re being manipulated. Realizing that you’re being manipulated by someone you love, to the point of becoming their puppet, can create a lot of emotional turmoil. There are various ways you could solve this problem. One would be to end the relationship if your partner changing their behavior is not a possibility. Another option is to make them learn to ask for things directly, rather than indirectly trying to get you to see their point of view without actually showing you their cards or expressing their true feelings. Interestingly, people who crave to control others can’t even control themselves.

How to Relax When You Suffer From Chronic Anxiety and Stress
by Aletheia Luna
We no longer know how to truly relax. Our frantic, stuffed schedules and fast-paced lives make it difficult for us to wind down and simply be with ourselves. We have mastered how to DO, but we know almost nothing about how to BE. Even when we do find ourselves with nothing to do, we freak out. Our social conditioning has ingrained within us the belief that we have to be “productive members of society” no matter where we are or what we’re doing. Productivity is the catchword of our century. There’s nothing innately wrong with productivity. But while we have physically and materially progressed immensely, we are internally impoverished and starving. Most people have made almost no internal progress whatsoever, leaving them feeling anxious, depressed, and more prone to addiction.
The truth is that it is very difficult for us to be quiet and still with ourselves. We can no longer sit in a room without reaching for our iPhone, checking our social media accounts or flicking on the TV. We have an obsessive, addictive need to fill all of our empty moments with searching, reading, buying, watching, and being entertained in some way. With such racing minds, it’s no wonder that we struggle with pandemic levels of insomnia, hyperactivity, impulsiveness, stress-related illnesses, and anxiety disorders.
But there is hope.
My Struggle With Anxiety … and the Only Thing That Helped I have struggled with anxiety since I was a teenager, but it got particularly bad when I entered my early twenties. As a highly sensitive empathic person, I often struggle to adjust to this modern world. I have strong physical reactions to artificial lighting, harsh smells, loud sounds, uncomfortable textures, EMF frequencies, and of course, the energy emitted by others. I very easily pick up on and internalize the energy transmitted by other people, making life oftentimes overwhelming.
Having a finely tuned nervous system means that I am prone to experiencing social anxiety and generalized anxiety. In fact, at one point my anxiety got so bad that I was having panic attacks multiple times a week. This intense anxiety led me to quit multiple jobs as they were too much for me to handle. The physical tension I experienced in my neck and shoulders also became unbearable to carry around. Through the years I have tried almost every “trick and technique” for anxiety available. I have tried numerous pharmaceutical drugs (SSRI’s), NLP, visualization, vitamin supplements, herbal remedies, PMR, diet changes, exercise, yoga, affirmations, and various forms of cognitive reprogramming. I have also read many books on anxiety. While some of these things helped, others were not very helpful. Through all of my journeys, I’ve discovered over and over again that one single, simple practice has helped me to relax more than any other.
This practice is mindful breathing. At first, this practice doesn’t sound like much. Maybe it sounds too straightforward or simplistic (I know that for me it did). “Mindful breathing?” you might think, “There’s got to be more to this than just breathing.” But that’s the problem: we believe that we have to practice some kind of fancy, elaborate technique in order to feel better. But we don’t.
In fact, the very belief that overcoming anxiety and tension is a “complicated” process is another source of anxiety! Why does letting go of anxiety have to be a complex process?

Our beloved friend and founder Louise Hay transitioned this morning, August 30, 2017 of natural causes at age 90. She passed peacefully in her sleep. Louise was an incredible visionary and advocate. Everyone who had the privilege to meet her, either in person or through her words, felt her passion for serving others. Considered a founder of the self-help movement, Louise was dubbed “the closest thing to a living saint.” She published her first book, Heal Your Body, in 1976 (at age 50) long before it was fashionable to discuss the connection between the mind and body. Louise started what would become her life’s work in New York City in 1970. She began attending meetings at the Church of Religious Science and then entered a ministerial program. She became a popular speaker at the church, and soon found herself counseling clients. This work quickly blossomed into a full-time career. After several years, Louise compiled a reference guide detailing the mental causes of physical ailments and developed positive thought patterns for reversing illness and creating health. This compilation was the basis for Heal Your Body, also known affectionately as “the little blue book.”
Louise was able to put her philosophies into practice when she was diagnosed with cancer. She considered the alternatives to surgery and drugs, and instead developed an intensive program of affirmations, visualization, nutritional cleansing, and psychotherapy. Within six months, she was completely healed of cancer. In 1980, Louise began putting her workshop methods on paper. In 1984, her second book, You Can Heal Your Life, was published. In it, Louise explained how our beliefs and ideas about ourselves are often the cause of our emotional problems and physical maladies and how, by using certain tools, we can change our thinking and our lives for the better. You Can Heal Your Life became a New York Times bestseller and spent 16 weeks on the list. More than 50 million copies of You Can Heal Your Life have been sold throughout the world.
In 1985, Louise began her famous support group, “The Hayride,” with six men diagnosed with AIDS. By 1988, the group had grown to a weekly gathering of 800 people and had moved to an auditorium in West Hollywood. Once again, Louise had started a movement of love and support long before people began to wear red ribbons on their lapels.
In 1987, what began as a small venture in the living room of her home turned into Hay House, Inc.: a successful publishing company that has sold millions of books and products worldwide and now has offices in California, New York, London, Sydney, Johannesburg, and New Delhi. “Meeting Louise changed the direction of my life,” said Reid Tracy, President and CEO of Hay House, Inc. “Her passion for serving others translated into everything she did. Simply by working alongside her, an analytical accountant like me transformed into someone who became aware of the power of affirmations and self-love. Being able to learn from her has been one of my life’s greatest blessings. The beauty of Louise was that you didn’t have to work alongside her to learn from her, you felt like you were there with her with every word you read or heard.” Hay House has published works by many notable authors in the self-help movement, including Dr. Wayne Dyer, Doreen Virtue, Dr. Christiane Northrup, and Esther and Jerry Hicks, among others. Louise was very vocal in her belief that age was irrelevant to achieving one’s dreams. To that point, at 81, Louise released her first-ever film on her life and work, You Can Heal Your Life: The Movie. Hay House will carry on Louise’s legacy and continue to publish products and online learning courses that align with her message of self-improvement and selflove. Louise Hay’s estate, as well as all future royalties, will be donated to The Hay Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by Louise that financially supports diverse organizations supplying food, shelter, counseling, hospice care, and funds to those in need. The service in honor of Louise Hay will be a private and intimate event. In lieu of flowers, we welcome your donations to the Hay Foundation. www.hayfoundation.org
I often ask clients, “Would you rather be right or would you rather be happy?” We all have opinions on who was right and who was wrong according to our own perceptions, and we can all find ways to justify our feelings. We want to punish others for what they did to us; however, we are the ones running the story over and over in our own minds. It is foolish for us to punish ourselves in the present because someone hurt us in the past.
To release the past, we want to be willing to forgive, even if we don’t know how. Forgiveness means giving up our hurtful feelings and just letting the whole thing go. A state of nonforgiveness actually destroys something within ourselves.
Louise Hay founder of Hay House Publishers, Hay Foundation and the Heal your Life Courses, Author of her best-selling book, You Can Heal Your Life, has transformed the lives of millions of people worldwide. Her Philosophy is built upon the foundation that a body Can return to its natural state of good health, we can have good and healthy relationships, and we can create a prosperous life. When we have the tools, support and guidance, we can overcome past hurts by GENTLY working through them, with a willingness to heal and let go of all that no longer serves us. It is liberating when we can finally find that space to forgive our self and others through the cultivation of SELF LOVE and ACCEPTANCE and becoming mindful of our words, thought and actions.

Many of us forego our daily 8 hours of rest without any real idea of the consequences. First and foremost, if you are not getting your 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night, you are critically affecting the cognitive processes involved in thinking and learning. Sleepiness impairs your attention, alertness, concentration, reasoning and problem solving, making concentration more difficult.
Also, sleep pays an important role in consolidating memories in your mind. If you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t be able to remember what you learnt and experienced during the day. Keep in mind that your tiredness can be dangerous – in many cases your drowsiness can slow your reaction times to those when drunk! Your sleepiness can also be depressing! Over time, a lack of sleep and sleep disorders can contribute to the symptoms of depression. Insomnia and depression are often linked, and unfortunately feed off each other, since sleep loss can often aggravate the symptoms of depression, and depression can make it difficult to fall asleep. It has been proven that people who sleep less than five hours a night feel stressed, angry, sad and mentally exhausted. Losing sleep can also lead to weight gain. Inadequate sleep increases cortisol levels and increases ghrelin – the peptide that stimulates hunger. It also reduces leptin, a hormone that signals fullness, leaving you storing fat and hungry. And for the image conscious – they don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing! A lack of sleep really does age your skin. During a deep sleep, growth hormones are released to repair tissue and patch up the wear and tear of the day. Last but not least – don’t be a hero! You may feel like you function fine on only six hours of sleep, but it is just sleep deprivation that you’ve simply gotten used to. A study of your performance and mental alertness will show a decline.
Improve Your Sleep 1. Unplug: cosying up to your laptop in bed or nodding off to late-night movies could disrupt your sleep. Not only is the .

content stimulating, but electronics emit a blue hue that mimics daylight. Try turn off all gadgets an hour before bedtime.
2.
Watch the caffeine: whether it’s caffeine, cola, dark chocolate or cappuccinos, it may be time to cut back. Caffeine tolerance is unique to the individual, so try gauge your limits. Either way, play it safe and make your last dose around noon. A brisk walk is just as energising as caffeine.
3.
Don’t overhydrate. Downing too much liquid at night guarantees midnight bathroom runs. Even though your body helps by naturally reducing urine production during sleep, aim to cut off liquids at least an hour before bed.
4.
Build a comfy nest: considering how many hours you spend in your bed, it may be time for an upgrade. Most mattresses last from 5 to ten years, and if yours is sagging it won’t provide the support you need.
5.
Keep your room tidy. People who make their beds before sleep report better rest. This may be because stress levels are lower in a tidy and organised and environment.
6.
Aircons: If you have an aircon, set it to around 18 degrees. This is the temperature at which researchers have found your body can stay comfortable without having to do anything like shiver or perspire.
7.
Sleepy scents: Lavender is always associated with better sleep, so spritz your pillow with a linen spray or pop a few drops under your pillow.

"If This Is Not Part of Your Health Tool Box, You Could Be Missing Out on One of the Easiest Ways to Consume More Vegetables" Have you discovered this simple way to increase your daily intake of vital nutrients without eating pounds of vegetables every day? If not, I recommend you make this part of your daily routine...
Since 1997, when I first launched Mercola.com to provide you with the most up-to-date health information, I’ve regularly stressed the importance of including plenty of raw, organic vegetables in your daily diet. But one of the biggest challenges you face is how to get adequate daily servings of these nutritious vegetables.
Many health experts recommend consuming at least five servings of vegetables per day. Yet, very few people actually meet this daily challenge. Fortunately, there’s a simple solution that can not only help you get the nutritious vegetables you need, but it may also make them more enjoyable for you to consume. This solution helps you reach your daily target for vegetables and saves you time in the process. Without wasting one more minute, let us get started!
Juicing – Why It Should Be Part of Your Optimal Nutrition Regimen I believe vegetable juicing is one of the healthiest practices you can do. It’s something I highly recommend as part of your daily regimen to complement a healthful diet. There are many reasons why I feel you should consider incorporating vegetable juicing into your optimal nutrition plan. Juicing:
Helps you absorb the nutrients from the vegetables – This is important because many of us have impaired digestion as a result of making less-than-optimal food choices over time. This can limit your body's ability to absorb nutrients from the vegetables. Helps “pre-digest” nutrients so you’re able to absorb more of the nutrients. However, unless you also eat the pulp, you will be missing out on the valuable fiber from vegetables. Allows you to consume more vegetables in an efficient manner – Juicing allows you to reduce the time you spend preparing and cooking vegetables. Plus, with juicing you get raw food nutrients that cooked vegetables don’t provide. A refreshing glass of fresh-squeezed juice helps you get the number of servings of vegetables you need for optimal health. Encourages a wider variety of vegetables in your diet – Many people tend to eat the same vegetables day after day. With juicing, you can choose from a wide variety of vegetables that you may not normally eat. One of the biggest reasons why many people avoid juicing is the time commitment. With all its prep and cleanup, juicing is often seen to be a real chore.
I think you’ll be presently surprised with how quick and easy juicing can actually be when you find the right juicer to do most of the work for you. And I’ll let you in on one of my juicing secrets – you don’t have to spend big bucks to find what I consider to be a high-quality, efficient juicer. But first, let’s take a look at how to maximize your time while juicing...
Quick and Easy Ways to Make Juicing More Efficient The idea of juicing raw vegetables to maximize your vegetable intake is very compelling. But if you are like many others, you have a busy schedule. That makes it all the more critical to find the most efficient way to juice. While it may be tempting to juice in bulk to save time, keep in mind that vegetable juice is perishable. I recommend juicing only what you can consume in 12 to 24 hours maximum. You get the most nutrients from juice immediately after you finish juicing.
Here are some tips to get you started making delicious and healthy juice: Start out by juicing vegetables that are easy to digest – I recommend celery, fennel (anise) and cucumbers as your starting base. Everyone’s system is unique, so “listen” to your body when you first start juicing. Make organic and locally grown vegetables a priority – Because organic vegetables are grown without pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, you don’t have to remove the skin on many varieties (like cucumbers). Try other vegetables when your system is ready – Once you feel you’re tolerating celery, fennel and cucumbers, you can begin adding other leafy vegetables like kale, collards, parsley, dandelion greens, cabbage, endive, lettuce and most any other dark green leafy vegetable.
Start with small amounts of greens as too large of quantities can be bitter. Save time and prepare your juice once for the entire day – If you’re planning on drinking your juice multiple times during the day, you can do everything at once to save time. Store your juice in a clean Mason or Ball glass jar in the refrigerator. Consume within 12 to 24 hours. Get organized when you’re ready to juice – Wash all your vegetables and peel only when necessary (if not organic). Don’t peel or slice anything you don’t have to. Save time in cleanup – Find a juicer that’s easy to clean and with mostly “dishwasher-safe” parts. That way you’ll only need to hand wash a few pieces making cleanup quick and easy. Just a word about juicing fruit... While many people enjoy juicing fruits along with their vegetables, it’s something I recommend only in moderation. Most fruit contains far too much sugar. And because you remove the valuable fiber when you juice fruits, you end up absorbing too much of the fructose in fruit.
If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can add a lemon or lime or a limited amount of unsweetened berries, but it's best to avoid higher-fructose vegetables such as carrots and fruits like apples.
A ‘Nothing Wasted’ Approach One thing I’ve personally discovered is with the right high-quality juicer, there’s very little waste from the juiced vegetables… and that includes the pulp. If you’ve never juiced, pulp is the byproduct left over after the vegetables have passed through the juicer. Many folks wonder what to do with the pulp other than toss it away. Because leftover pulp contains a high amount of fiber – and most people don’t get enough fiber – I recommend eating it. From a nutritional standpoint, it’s more useful to consume the entire vegetable, including the pulp, because the fiber: Serves as a prebiotic, which can play an important role in your digestion and gut flora Helps create “food” for your beneficial bacteria to thrive in your GI tract Here are a few suggestions on how to make the leftover pulp more appetizing: Dress it up with some Himalayan salt and other condiments like balsamic vinegar and crushed red peppers Dry the pulp in a dehydrator to make vegetable pulp crisps Serve a lightly poached egg over the pulp with some melted, fresh raw butter Drizzle with coconut oil or high-quality olive oil and add to a salad These are just some ideas to demonstrate how juicing can turn into a “nothing is wasted” approach with the healthy vegetables you choose to juice. Finally, finding the right high-quality juicer may be your most important decision to both save time and help you reap maximum nutritional benefits from your organic produce.
What Are the Benefits of Probiotics for Overall Health There are some very important benefits of probiotics that you should know. Probiotics are all the rage — from Kombucha to Kefir, we’re seeing this mysterious word pop up more often than ever. There’s also a growing body of research that suggests that taking liveactive cultures like probiotics can treat and prevent a host of health problems. But what exactly are probiotics, and what do they really do?
What are Probiotics? Your body is home to trillions of bacteria — both good and bad. This is referred to as your ‘microbiome.’ The good bacteria (also known as ‘gut flora’) keep your GI train running smoothly, as well as supports your immune system and regulates inflammation in your body. But certain things are good bacteria killers. Among these include antibiotic prescription medication, high levels of stress, and excess sugar consumption. Avoiding the above is not always possible, and that’s where probiotic supplements step in to help keep your body’s gut flora in balance. But that’s not all they can do. Consider the following benefits of probiotics (and which strains can help carry out those benefits!).
What are the Benefits of Probiotics? 1. Weight Loss According to the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, clinical studies supported claims that regularly taking a probiotic supplement contributed to an overall lower BMI (body mass index), improved blood sugar levels, and a decreased risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. If you’re looking to lose weight, keep an eye out for probiotics that contain the strains: B. Brevis, B. Lactis, L. Acidophilus, L. Gasseri, L. Rhamnosus GG.
2. Stronger Immune System Because probiotics are a type of bacteria, they can prevent bad bacteria that can cause you to get sick, from infecting your body.
3. Improved Digestion and Relief from Irritable Bowel Syndrome Your colon needs good bacteria to function properly, and probiotics step into combat gassiness, bloating, and diarrhea. Probiotic supplements also contain digestive enzymes that can help break down your food and make it easier for your body to process.
4. Fewer Seasonal Allergies Due to their anti-inflammatory properties, clinical studies have seen that people who regularly take probiotics with the strains L. Casei, L. Rhamnosus, Paracasei have decreased symptoms of seasonal allergies.
5. Reduced Anxiety Stress and anxiety wreak havoc on your body, and your microbiome is no exception. Alterations to your gut flora can improve your body’s stress response, reducing anxiety and boosting your mood and cognitive ability.
Take Action: What Should You Do Now? All those health benefits sound great, but how do you actually take advantage of them? If you’re new to probiotics, here’s where to begin: Start gradually. To avoid experiencing side effects, start slow and build your dosage up when your body gets used to it.
Eat a healthy diet. No supplement can replace a nutrient-rich diet, so make sure you’re eating whole fruits and vegetables to allow the probiotics to do their job!
Consistency is key. Taking your probiotics on a regular schedule can keep you regular as well, as well as allow you to take advantage of the countless other benefits!

Archangel Raziel -Hidden WorldsThere is far more to life than what you actually see and experience.
There are hidden worlds in other dimensions and times that stand just beyond the veil that separates them from earth. These realms consist of colours, sounds, thoughts and feelings which are often thought of as imagination or myth. They cover both time and space. A good way to ensure that you access these realms is to ensure that you do regular meditation so that you are in a quiet and serene space. Here you can free your mind and allow it to cross over into other dimensions in space and time and in this way you are able to experience so much more. You will experience an increased awareness and increased sensitivity where your everyday perceptions shift and your senses become heightened.
This can also occur during major life or personal transitions which allows your artistic or creative process to flourish heightening your Spiritual and psychic awareness. This period is a time for truly listening, feeling and opening up to hidden worlds. You will feel yourself drawn to new thoughts and ideas and become aware of signs or omens from the Universe. Your dreams will become very vivid and sometimes strange and strange synchronicities may be occurring more frequently and actually making sense! It is extremely important that you take note of what is being revealed as there are secrets, keys and signs as well as your past life knowledge and wisdom that the Universe now wants to reveal to you. Allow yourself to become inspired into a new state of consciousness. How to Answer Your Calling
By Juliet Tang
3 Ways to Remember Why Your Soul Chose This Life “You came here with something to do. You are part of a universal consciousness, and there are no accidents in it. In your true essence — not the false self, not the ego part of you, but in the true essence of who you are — you are infinite and you have something very profound to accomplish while you’re here. Otherwise you wouldn’t be here. Find it. Pay attention to it. Listen to the callings. See the clues, the cues. See the alignments, whatever they might be, no matter how absurd or bizarre they might seem to everyone around you… if you have a calling inside that says there’s also something else, don’t ignore that. Don’t die with your music still in you. Don’t die with your purpose unfulfilled. Don’t die feeling as if your life has been wrong. Don’t let that happen to you.” ~ Wayne Dyer
You Are On a Mission Prior to birth, just like an artist who is selecting which paints will go onto the blank canvas, our souls choose a set of colors to work with which determine our parents, ethnicity, country of birth, etc. We also choose a number of possible paths that would allow us to experience certain aspects of our being. For instance, if courage is one of those aspects of ourselves we wish to experience, we would collaborate with other souls in this physical realm so circumstances would arise in our lives where we are required to invoke courage within us. Likewise, we choose a certain mission, or a calling that would allow us to maximize our full potentials on this live stage called earth. In order to fully step into our calling with power and consciousness, we must first elect to forget what it is at birth so we may, after years and decades, and for some, lifetimes of soul searching, arrive at a point in our lives where we must make a choice to remember who we truly are and deliberately call forth what gives us highest joy. Personally, I see the long years of painful searching as nothing more than a rite of passage with intended experiences and divinely placed circumstances that fully prepares us to be who we came here to be. The second we reunite with our soul’s calling, the universe registers our seriousness and we come to the realization that nothing can and will stand in our way. At that moment, all fears and obstacles begin fading as the path unfolds in front of us. At that moment, we will move mountains and cross oceans just so that we can become one with our highest intention and commit to our divine mission. At that moment, our body, mind and soul become aligned with one single purpose – to experience ourselves as our own grandest creation in this life.
Funny enough, once we remember our mission, we often realize the mission has very little to do with us and everything to do with everyone else. It is a mission that allows us to serve humanity and to light the paths for others through servicing, healing, inspiring, teaching and empowering. It is no coincidence that for many, in order to remember that mission, we must first experience the pains and turmoil in life so we may later not only decide to transcend what limits us, but also use our life journey as a tool to inspire and encourage others to do the same. Some of the most influential teachers from Hay House such as Louise Hay, Anita Moorjani and the late Wayne Dyer are but a few who had journeyed to the darkness and back so they may light the way for others. Know that wherever you are in life is exactly where you need to be. You are not bound to any fate and you have the power to change and create anything in life. It is my hope that by sharing the following 3 reminders, which are embedded in your soul blueprint, you will begin manifesting your calling.
1. Identify Your Highest Joy As beings of energy, we ourselves are literally the creation tools we are born with and our feeling is the direct line of communication with our soul, or the higher self. At any time when our thoughts, words and actions are aligned with the soul’s vision, we know it immediately by the way we feel which is usually identified as harmony, inner-peace, joy, gratitude and love. Whenever we feel good, our vibration is instantly higher which easily leads to inspired action; and by committing ourselves to inspired action, it leads to more joy which expands the breeding ground of inspired action. The more we can get in touch with the “feel good” component within ourselves and listen to it, the easier it will be for us to define our mission in life. For the longest time, I had not a clue what my calling was and I spent the majority of my time complaining and wishing I could do something else with my life while holding onto the belief that a job and a passion are mutually exclusive. I did have many passions and since I felt miserable with my job, I indulged myself with activities I enjoyed whenever I had free time. Being a spiritual seeker since birth, one of my passions was alternative healing. For many years, I heard and read about Reiki and there was always that little voice in the back of my head whispering, “Take a Reiki class.” Like many, I brushed aside the little voice with as many excuses as I could find but eventually, the voice became so persistent that I decided to just go for it.
As someone who was also obsessed with doing the due diligence for everything I stepped into, I spent hours researching for an experienced teacher. I already signed up for a course elsewhere when the name of my first Reiki teacher popped up in my search, and for reasons unknown to me at the time, I made a last minute decision to go with this class. During the two days of training, I met someone whom I became friends with. Fast forward to years later, we currently share an office space doing healing work in Midtown Manhattan. Within the same year after the initial training, the same friend introduced me to another Reiki teacher who is the very reason why I eventually became a recovery and wellness coach as well as Reiki master. During those years, every time when I was guided by inspiration, life rewarded me with more people, events and circumstances that helped me remember my true essence and carry out my mission. Do not despair if you do not yet remember what you came here to be. Your only duty in this life is to follow your highest joy. Believe me, it is much more than just a cliché line that we use as a bumper sticker.
Once we follow the first inspired idea, we are sending out the energy with the intention of “I am my highest joy at this given moment” into the universe which slowly intensifies and magnifies as we become more accustomed to singing our heart’s song. What has started as a seed is given more opportunities to grow and flourish every time when we follow our highest feelings because the energy behind that intention is literally snowballing and creating more and more movement in the quantum field in bringing us what make us happy. What inspires you? What makes your heart sing? What’s that one thing you’ve been wanting to do but have been putting off forever?
It’s time. 2. Allow Your Being to Guide Your Doing One of the most frustrating things we do to ourselves is we get stuck envisioning the million tasks we must do to accomplish anything, that can also be the very thing that keeps us from moving forward. Answering our calling is very much a process like everything else. The end result may look nothing like what we started off with or what we planned, and that is completely okay. Sometimes what we think we want only serves as a stepping stone that leads us closer to fulfilling our mission. The universe does not care about what we do that makes us radiate with joy, it can be taking a Reiki class or a baking class, going on that spontaneous vacation or calling an old friend we haven’t seen for years. The universe only cares about the vibrational signature we give off when we are being that joy.
By giving ourselves into inspired action, we may be meeting a teacher for life who becomes our source of inspiration, or be welcoming an opportunity that otherwise would not be there had we not chosen to follow our heart and arrive at that exact location and time. The only decision we have to make on a daily basis is to start following whichever things that give us whatever amount of joy out of all the available daily activities in front of us rather than coming up with a huge plan of action to get ourselves from point A to B because “it is the right thing to do” or “everything else does it.” If your only daily activities are comprised of chores such as house cleaning, meeting deadlines and cooking for a family of six, then invite yourself to do some (or all) of those things with as much joy and presence as you can, and to squeeze in a couple of little activities that bring you peace and make you come alive. They can be as simple as having quiet time to read for 15 minutes or working on that hobby when everyone goes to sleep. You just never know what may come out of them! Do not ever underestimate the power behind these little activities as they are what make the energy accumulate. Remember, it is always about being the “I am my highest joy at this given moment” energy rather than flooding ourselves with tasks and running around aimlessly for the simple reason that we cannot find our calling outside of ourselves, but we can remember or create it within us. The more we can allow that energy to flow to us and from us, the more the universe can bring us everything that resonates on the same energy level to help us remember and create our destinies.
One day, exactly one year from the day I resigned from my last job, it finally hit me. While I will always remain grateful of the knowledge and support I have taken away from the courses, my writing reflects my true essence, and who I am at the core is someone who thinks, feels and speaks like the spiritual geek that I am proud to be. By giving myself endless tasks of to-do’s that do not align with my inspired actions, I am neglecting who I came here to be — someone who helps others heal, awaken and create through spiritual writing, healing and coaching.
Is the path of committing ourselves to remembering, and eventually embodying our calling always peachy? The answer is no. It is a journey that is made of a thousand little steps of learning and choosing. Along the way of building my healing practice, I was constantly discouraged by my lack of knowledge and tools to run a business as well as overwhelmed by the millions of tasks I was constantly bombarded with. I invested a great deal of energy on training courses from learning how to write my about page to polishing up the content of my website so I can reach a larger audience. No matter how much I tried to tweak my writing while working with business coaches and alike, I was unable to meet their standards of using “simple and client friendly” language where I could explain what I do in a couple of sentences to an eight-year old.
In fact, this article was entirely inspired by hours of staring at weeks worth of unfinished homework documents from my latest course with the sudden realization that the content of my website may never appeal to everyone, and that is perfectly okay. I was faced with two choices, to continue doing the daunting task of sounding like someone I am not, or being immersed in the joy of writing. The moment I chose the latter, a stream of inspiration poured in and gave birth to these words. At the end of the day, it isn’t about what we do, how we do it, what our titles are, how polished our website looks, how many credentials are displayed in our bios and how many award-winning books we’ve published. It is about whether we can allow ourselves to step into who we truly are, and boldly and lovingly declare our authenticity to the world. No vibration in the universe is more powerful than our energy when it becomes an extension of our divine calling. What are some things on your daily to-do list? Which ones of those give you any amount of joy? How can you insert more “feel good” activities into your life? How can you replace the aimless “to-do’s” with more inspired action?
3. Your Calling is Your Own Creation Our souls have chosen a certain mission prior to birth, but the moment we become fully conscious of who we are and awaken to the creator within, we are no longer bound to any predetermined paths we laid out for ourselves before coming into this physical body. The more we are aware of our true essence and our connection with the divine source, the more empowered we become and the more we can claim the gift of free will which ultimately allows us to exercise our birthright as the conscious creator to Be, Do, and Have anything our soul desires. To achieve that, we must first free ourselves from everything that limits us. Limitations can take the form of fear such as fear of uncertainty/change, fear of lack, or even fear of success. Limitations can also manifest as endless excuses ranging from “I have a full time job with no time or money” to “I’m too old to do this.” In addition, limitations show up as disempowering beliefs including, “There isn’t enough for everyone” or “I am not special enough.” There is no one way to initiate that journey of liberation, there is only what works for you. Personally, I’ve found spiritual practices such as energy healing, Kundalini yoga, meditation, working with a spiritual coach, being in nature, journaling and reading inspirational books are all great ways to awaken. I used to be the queen of “what-if’s.” “What if I failed?”… “What if I lost it all?”… “What if I became a laughingstock?”… One day, I grew sick of my negative what-if’s and decided to do a 180. “What if I succeeded?”… “What if I learned something from this?”… “What if I could help others?”… I made a point to do this every day for months and it made a remarkable difference in my ability to exercise my free will.
Prior to tapping into our true creator role, many of us feel like powerless victims who take whatever life throws at us. We may be passionate about answering our calling as an artist but end up working at a bank because we are afraid we won’t make ends meet. We feel limited, even enslaved by the conditions in our lives. We submit ourselves to our socalled fate and tell stories of how we aren’t fortunate enough to be one of those who seem to have it all. When we awaken, we become aware that we are who we say we are, and what we create as well as how we wish to experience everything in life depends on one thing and one thing only – our choice. Your calling is something you soul chose in the realm of the formless before it took on a body, and you can choose again at any time in this life because the truth is, your soul remains who you truly are while your body and mind are only additional tools for you to carry out your mission so you may experience your own creations physically in this 3D time and space dimension. That power of choice has never left you. Once you decide, allow the universe to bring you the rest of the co-creators to make it happen.
It is time to unleash your free will and write your own destiny. There is nothing written in the stars that are foreshadowing who you are and what you can become. Once every part and every cell within you is aligned with this inner-knowing, you have awakened to the divine power of creation you have inherited. That power lives in you and patiently awaits for you to call upon it. You are neither your past, your birth conditions, your roles, your accomplishments, your credentials, your awards, your bills, your bank statements, your 9-5 job that makes you cringe every morning upon waking up, nor are you your body, your mind, your beliefs, your thoughts, your baggage, your limitations, your past relationships, even your soul contract. Deep down inside, you are a being powerful beyond your imagination. Once you remember all this, you will remember your sacred ability to create anything you wish and your joyous vibration will make the world just a little brighter. It matters not one bit if you do not know your calling. If you could start from a blank slate and create anything you wanted in life without limitations from this moment on, who would you be? What would you create? What is one small step you can take today to be that?

It is in our human nature that we want to feel important but we seek to be and feel important from the ones nearest and dearest to us… But what if we were the most important person in our life and they were the most important person in their life? Putting yourself first is not selfish, it is allowing you to be the best version of you so you can be there for others in the way that best serves you and them. Learning to understand how to put yourself first can sometimes be a challenge as well as having the discernment of when to, as there is always the factor of being in ego. It may be easier to put others first or seek others’ opinions/validation so that we can have a sense of importance in order to help us feel more ‘complete’ or ‘fulfilled’.
So what would it take to acknowledge yourself and be important to you? The lack in us is an illusion. Before we were born, (while we were in the womb), we had access to Higher wisdom. Then when we were born all that wisdom was removed from our consciousness and we become like sponges; absorbing everything around us. We learned how to think, speak, act, be and do from our parents, those around us and whatever environments we were exposed to. Some of our experiences from childhood left us feeling disappointed, rejected, angry, hurt and sad. We stored these in our sub-conscious and created limiting beliefs and feelings. In addition, we also carry residual memories in our cells for generations and lifetimes. These experiences, feelings and stored cellular memories contribute to us feeling unsafe in some way or another. This often leads us to responding negatively or defensively to challenging situations, triggers and setbacks. And we find ourselves constantly fighting to fulfill this need of feeling safe.
Conscious Life Magazine
So what would make you feel safe right now? Whatever your answer, question that answer with “what is the worst thing of not having [your answer]”. You will find the deeper you dig – questioning each answer further, you will gain access to your sub-conscious and insight to your limiting feeling and beliefs. Each year gets more challenging resulting in some high and some lows…hoping the next year will become easier and more rewarding. We need to come to the understanding that how we respond/react to these challenges is what can make it easier. Stop resisting what the lesson is and understand growth comes in many forms, the most significant progress we can make is pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. Be open to the possibilities… I am still being challenged to learn how to set healthy boundaries; to know that my best is good enough; that experiences in my life only make me grow and it’s up to me to acknowledge my growth and continue to take more steps without fear, doubt and worry… But by just being truly open to possibilities and change, it is making this journey so much easier. One of the biggest learning most of us are faced with is trusting in ourselves and in life itself! When you are open and willing to receive, opportunities you never considered will confront you; and the more you live in gratitude the more you will be blessed with surprises, not to say everything is smooth sailing but I am truly experiencing what a fundamental factor gratitude is in life… So are you willing and able to allow yourself to experience calmness in chaos? “Let us rise above our discomforts of fear and change; believe in ourselves to persevere and conquer; be open to receiving the gifts that are awaiting us and embrace all of life with gratitude”

REIKI A quantity that is almost impossible to define! Energy can never be created or destroyed, only converted from one form to another. Among the familiar forms are heat energy, energy of motion, electrical energy, and sound energy. Reiki is a form of energy healing. This form of healing helps to maintain balance within, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Reiki is a form or spiritual or energy healing. It helps open up and remove blockages
within the system. Each system within our bodies is intimately connected to the seven major charkas. Reiki will help remove these blockages and restore balance.

As women, we often focus attention on our lower body – from the midsection and hips to bum and thighs. That means our upper body often goes neglected, and this is where we need to build strength the most. Here are five moves to strengthen those arms and shoulders, and keep them toned and trip as well! RUNNING ARMS SWING: Stand with feet planted wide and weights held in each hand. Simulate a running motion, swinging arms back and forth. Aim for three sets of 10-16 reps.
DUMBBELL PUNCHES: Stand with your feet planted wide and weights held at shoulder height. Punch directly in front of you, extending arms until almost straight. Aim for three sets of 10-16 reps.
MODIFIED PUSH UP: Start on your hands and knees, and move your hands forward until wrists are under shoulders and body is in a straight line from neck to knees. Aim for three sets of 10-16 reps.

DIAMOND PLANK TO DOLPHIN POSE: Start in diamond plank position with hands clasped and elbows under shoulders. Push your shoulders back and bend at the hips to form a straight line from elbows to hips and hips to toes. Hold for a moment then return to your starting position. Aim for three sets of 10-16 reps.
PLANK WITH ROW: Start in plank position with a weight under each hand. Wrists should be below shoulders, and body in a straight line from neck to ankles. Keeping your form, bend one elbow into the air, keeping it close to your body. Lower back down and lift the other elbow. Aim for three sets of 10-16 reps.

By Guylin van den Berg We have all come across the lumo coloured lycra bandits pedalling bikes around the neighbourhood. They call it the new golf. Maybe you have been thinking about taking up cycling? Where to go, what to buy and the costs involved? Having ridden a bike for 12 years, I am here to shed some light and help you speed up the process of becoming an expert on the trails.
Getting Started You need a Bike: • Depending on your budget, you have the option of a new bike or a great second hand option. There are many brands available at your local bike shop and we recommend sticking to the trusted brands of bikes as they will offer the back up and service in terms of possible warranty issues and so forth. The second hand option is also great for picking up bargains and these bikes can be found on sites such as bikehub.co.za and OLX. • Look for a great frame with lower spec parts instead of a cheaper frame with high spec parts as parts can be upgraded at a lower value than what an upgraded frame will cost. • We always recommend looking at buying a mountain bike, as it allows for both on the road riding and off road riding.
How to get started: • Make sure that you have all the necessary gear to keep you safe. NEVER try to save money on a helmet. It is the only piece of equipment protecting your head.
Conscious Life Magazine
• Start with a goal race in mind. There are many local races to choose from, so choose the distance that you know is realistic to your ability. • Start riding a few times a week until you can comfortably ride an hour or two within your limits.
The Gear you will need: • Quality helmet • Reliable bicycle • Tubeless tyres • Specific tyres which are filled with a liquid instead of a tube which is much better for preventing punctures. • Hand pump • Plugs and tool • Needed for plugging holes in the tyre which are too big for the liquid sealant to fill • Speedometer • To measure distance and time so you can progressively ride further and longer and keep track of riding. • Quality phone pouch • For cell phone and money • Multi tool • Affordable riding shorts
Conscious Life Magazine
Tips & Tricks • The more you ride, the more confident you become. • Start slowly and progressively increase distance and time spent cycling. • Enjoy it • Join a group of similar riders • Practise skills: • Riding up kerbs • Corners • Figure of 8’s • Choose 3 areas to improve and work on them before moving to the next 3 areas • Remember to eat and drink
Places to start mountain biking: We have great facilities to choose from throughout South Africa and most cater for the all-important cappuccino after the ride. Most of these facilities offer shower areas, clean toilets and areas where kids can safely play.
Johannesburg • Northern Farms • PWC bike park • Modderfontein • Avianto Pretoria • The big red barn • Rosemary hill • Buffelsdrift • Wolwespruit (more advanced rider) The trick about mountain biking is to just start. Once you have started then you can assess individually how far you want to take your fitness, skills, racing results and so forth. It is a beautiful sport irrespective of what bike you ride or how fast you are. I look forward to seeing you all out on the trails. Please keep an eye out for my upcoming articles where I will be focusing on more in-depth topics about mountain biking. If you have any more question, please do not hesitate to ask me and my team at Azzuri Cycling.

Food Garden Prep for Spring While many standard garden vegetables can not be planted outside or started from seed until the soil is fully warmed and the threat of frost is past, a variety of other cool season spring crops can be started right now, giving you a jump start on the gardening season and putting food on your plate long before the summer vegetables come in. These spring vegetables, all of which can be easily planted from seed, are all great choices for an early garden, and are usually foolproof enough to grow so that even the most beginning gardeners can reap a good harvest. 1. Spinach Fresh baby spinach, which is one of my favorite greens to eat, is also fairly quick to sprout and grow in a spring garden, and can be remarkably frost-resistant, especially when grown under cover. There are a lot of varieties of spinach, most of which can be categorized by being either savoy and semi-savoy (which tend to have crinkled or curly crisp leaves), or smooth-leaf (with flatter leaves and a softer texture), and I recommend growing several varieties to see which ones work best for your soil and location, as well as which ones you prefer the taste of. For early spring greens, I like to grow them close together and harvest the leaves when they're still small, which can be as short as three weeks from planting, depending on the variety and the weather. Spinach is also a great plant for the fall garden, as it can be covered with mulch and will often overwinter that way for early spring harvest.
2. Chard This beet relative is another excellent spring vegetable that is easy to grow from seed, and can be eaten fresh or cooked (or tossed into a smoothie for a drinkable salad). I plant my chard closer than the seed packet instructions recommend, and then harvest the crowded ones as baby greens when I thin the beds. Chard comes in a variety of colors and sizes and textures, although most of the color tends to be in the thick stems, with the leaves being mostly green. Growing some red and white and yellow chard along with the traditional green chard can add some color to spring salads while also livening up the look of the garden. Some varieties of chard can be harvested as baby greens in about 25 days, with the leaves taking about twice that long to get to full size.
3. Lettuce While lettuce can be grown into the full sized heads that most of us are used to from the grocery store, I've found that growing it just for baby greens is not only quicker and easier, but will provide a near-constant supply of salad greens from spring until well into summer. I like to use mixed lettuce seed (sometimes called mesclun mix), and instead of sowing the seeds farther apart, as is recommended for head lettuce, I sow them very close together in each row, which will yield a solid row of lettuce leaves that is easy to harvest, and which can be cut repeatedly throughout the season. Lettuce comes in a number of colors and leaf shapes, not just the standard green romaine, red and green leaf lettuce, and butterhead varieties, so growing mixed baby greens gives you a wide variety of textures and colors for salads. Baby greens can be harvested in a couple of weeks, and by planting successions of seeds every week or two, you can have a constant supply of greens for the kitchen.
4. Radishes Radishes are one of the fastest vegetables you can grow, aside from the various greens, as many varieties are ready to be harvested in as little as three weeks. Radishes are great for interplanting with lettuce or other spring greens, and can help to naturally thin those crops as the radishes get harvested. Many of us are only familiar with the round red or pink and white radishes often sold in grocery stores, but they come in a lot of different colors, shapes, and sizes, and can be spicy or sweet, depending on the variety. Radishes are a great crop for kids to help grow, as the seeds are large enough for small children to help plant, and because they're quick to mature and easy to pull from the ground, can be perfect for impatient gardeners as well.
5. Kale Kale, while quite possibly being the veggie people most love to hate, is another excellent spring vegetable that is easy to grow from seed, and because it can be harvested as a baby green and as full-sized leaves, can provide a lot of food from a little effort. Whether you like to eat it raw as part of your salad or in your smoothies, or you prefer it steamed or stir-fried in a main dish, kale can be a great green addition to any diet. Kale can be dense and crinkly, such as "dinosaur" kale, or flatter and more ruffle-y, such as the red Russian varieties, and is often sweeter as a baby green in the spring, and then again late in fall after the first frost. I've been able to harvest baby kale leaves in as little as three weeks, with full-sized leaves maturing in anywhere from 40 to 60 days, depending on the variety.
6. Peas Snow peas, and other pod peas, are another great spring vegetable that kids tend to love. The seeds are big enough for children to plant, and I haven't met a kid yet who didn't love to go searching in the garden for peas to harvest and eat right there. Shelling peas and snap peas tend to take a bit longer, but they're also a big hit with kids, many of whom will scarf them down fresh from the pod and yet never eat a cooked pea (and to be honest, I don't care for cooked peas either). Peas take anywhere from 50 to 65 days to mature, depending on the variety, and can grow either as vines or as 'bushes', so they lend themselves equally well to both trellising and growing in regular garden beds. For best germination rates, pea seeds should be soaked in water overnight before planting them. http://www.treehugger.com/living/

Plants that repel bugs are naturally eco-friendly and they will definitely have results. No one really likes bugs whenever they are having a good time relaxing indoors or outdoors. Bugs and insects such as mosquitoes that bite can really be a nuisance not to mention that they may spread diseases like Yellow fever and Malaria. Now, most of us opt for chemical solutions in repelling these bugs owing to the advertisements afforded to them. The sad truth is that some of these chemical solutions don’t work plus they are not eco-friendly.
So why don’t you try using some natural solutions? This article compiles some of the best plants that repel bugs and you can easily grow them in your backyard. 1. Petunias This plant does a good job at keeping away squash bugs, beetles and aphids and it grows best in a sunny spot. Plant them near a window for better growth.
2. Basil This plant contains an oil that kills mosquitoes and the best way to grow them is to plant them near areas with stagnant water to kill the eggs and put off the insects. 3. Marigold
Mosquitoes and aphids will be kept away from your area with the help of these plants. 4. Lavender Flies, moths and mosquitoes are disgusted by this sweet smelling plant. This plant can either be planted in the garden or put around the house as a pretty bouquet. 5. Rosemary Other than using it in food or tea, use this plant to repel mosquitoes and protect vegetables from pest infestation. 6. Mint This plant has a pleasant smell that easily spreads out repelling bugs and biting insects. Try planting them in pots around your house. 7. Catnip Cats are known love this plant and the attraction is all thanks to a compound called nepetalactone. Bugs, on the other hand, do not fancy the mint. 8. Alliums Be warned that Alliums are toxic to dogs and cats so take precaution where you plant them. One positive hand, though, they will help protect vegetables from flies, slugs and worms. 9. Chrysanthemums Insect killer sprays are made with pyrethrum that is found in this plant. It kills cockroaches, mosquitoes, ticks and even silverfish.
10. Lemongrass Summer is the best time to enjoy this plant that grows really well with a lot of sun. Lemongrass has an oil known as Citronella that keeps away pests.

Breathing is part of our autonomic nervous system. We don’t need to think about it and yet, we have the ability to consciously change the way we breathe. by Dr Ela Manga If you are attempting to create a new healthy habit or change in your lifestyle, chances are you will fail.
The fact that it stores our habits is an energy saving mechanism, freeing up energy for the conscious mind to focus on learning, decisions and growth.
Ninety-five percent of how we think and behave is driven by the subconscious mind which is basically a software programme that stores all our habits of thought, emotion and actions. And for many of us, this software programme is an outdated or faulty one, the running of which creates anxiety, racing thoughts, an inability to relax, physical tension and a negative perception of ourselves and the world.
When we are trying to change our behaviour or learn a new skill, it’s the conscious mind that initially has to do all the hard work. It’s only when that behaviour or action is practised long enough, that it becomes automated and swops over to the subconscious, freeing up space and energy for the conscious mind to focus on something new.
When we understand how the subconscious mind works, we can hack it and use it in a more positive way that supports our health and energy. The subconscious is basically the part of our brain that processes and stores information under the radar of our conscious mind. In fact, if we were consciously aware of all the stimuli around us, it would cause insanity.
The functions of the brain such as learning, making choices, paying attention to multiple things and communicating use up a great deal of energy. And that’s what you're doing throughout a typical working day. So when you're tired and exhausted at the end of your day, there’s very little capacity left for your conscious mind to think about making a healthy choice.
The more mentally exhausted you are, the more likely you are to default to old behaviour and habits. The more likely you are to reach for the fastest and quickest way to get energy and the more likely you are to perceive things negatively. While upgrading your software to support your health and energy might seem like a long and complicated process, there is a way to simplify it all. The easiest way to use the conscious mind to upgrade the software of your subconscious mind is through the very physiological process that links the conscious to the subconscious. The breath. Breathing is part of our autonomic nervous system. We don’t need to think about it and yet, we have the ability to consciously change the way we breathe. If breath awareness and conscious breathing is the only habit we develop, all other changes will happen naturally. As soon as we bring our awareness to our breath, we become aware of our thoughts, feelings, posture and behaviour. Changing the way we breathe then changes the way we feel. When we manage our breathing, we are managing our attention.
And where attention goes, energy flows.

Dharmagiri Insight Meditation Centre is dedicated to bringing the universal practice of mindful awareness to South Africans and visitors from across the continent and world. At Dharmagiri, we hold a dream that healing and liberation is the birth right of all. Our focus is to catalyze this potential through contemplative practices that reconnect with the core of who we are, beyond the masks we wear, at the timeless level of our being. The power of Mvuleni-Bamboo Mountain where Dharmagiri is nestled, and Dharmagiri’s legacy of Buddhist inspired wisdom teachings, enables a process of awakening from personal and collective wounding. As dysfunctional conditioning is released, our innate, intuitive intelligence is activated, guiding our way home so we remember that we are loving and compassionate, and as unique and authentic selves, belong together within the inter-connected web of life. Dharmagiri is on the border of South Africa and Lesotho near Underberg, KZN. It was founded in 2000 by Kittisaro and Thanissara, who trained in the Thai Forest monastic Tradition, and is guided by them, Chandasara, who also trained in the same tradition, a board of directors, and members of Sacred Mountain Sangha, an affiliated community of South African and International Dharma practitioners. We offer guided silent meditation retreats, self-retreats, and a range of shorter retreats that promote physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Within an ethos of open inquiry and self-empowerment, we share teachings and practices that encourage the cultivation of mindfulness, insight meditation (vipassana), compassion, integrity and wisdom. We believe changing the world for better grows from each person’s ability to access peace, clarity, and their positive creative potential.

Because food is an important part of your stay Meals are part of the real surprises that the Antbear Lodge has to offer where home grown cooking is part of the deal. We like to use our own home grown organic vegetables and if we haven’t got, then we lean heavily on those local providers with similar attitudes to our own. Conny and Andrew both like cooking and are up to changing just about anything to suit tastes or philosophies. Our cooking experience is in part a journal, a record of events and memories expressed in recipes. In the course of our travels we have filed away many recipes and with them images of people and places and their lives. How food tastes has much to do with the associations we make and if you would like to hear the tales of our meals we would love to tell them.
Sustainable & responsible tourism is our social responsibility and what we do to give something back to our community and environment We believe in sustainable tourism and social responsibility. We live is a spectacularly beautiful place called the Drakensberg and our standard of living here is exceptional. But around us lie contrasts of poverty and lack of development. If we are to keep our way of life then it surely follows that we must do everything in our power to contribute to the upliftment and prosperity of this rural area. We believe that the future of South Africa is linked to the prosperity of the people, and that upliftment is linked to education. And as such we have chosen to support our local primary school called Vulakani Primary School.

The Buddhist Retreat Centre, where people of all religions, and none, come to experience peace and tranquility. How to Retreat The Buddhist Retreat Centre offers various types of retreats, ranging from those investigating Buddhist thought and philosophy, through to practice retreats where the emphasis is on meditation; as well as retreats featuring bird watching, cookery, drumming, pottery and photography. At first glance the latter might appear to be unrelated to Buddhism but even these retreats will contain some element of meditation, of mindful awareness, refracting the chosen subject matter through a Buddhist lens. People from all walks of life come to these retreats with a variety of motivations and expectations. Perhaps they want to deepen their meditation practice, to take some time out from a hectic working life; to reflect on a tense domestic situation; to consider the trajectory of their lives; to make a decision about a way forward. Maybe they just want to learn how to take a good photograph. Each person will have a different reason for going on a retreat. Different paths will have led them to this place. We all need to make an appointment with ourselves from time to time. To re-connect with who we are; to maintain balance; to recharge exhausted batteries. To make time to go on a retreat is a necessary and healthy step for anyone.
General Information The Centre has been established on an exquisite 125-hectare country estate near the village of Ixopo, KwaZuluNatal 90 kilometers south of Pietermaritzburg, one and a half hours’ drive from Durban. Set in hilly grasslands amongst dams, indigenous bush and forests, it overlooks one of the great valleys in the Umkomaas river system. CNN featured the BRC as one of the ten finest retreat centres in the world. It was awarded Natural Heritage status by President Nelson Mandela in recognition of its success in establishing indigenous vegetation on the property and providing habitats for wildlife to return, including the endangered Blue Swallow. It is a birder’s paradise with more 160 species recorded.
Walks lead to many interesting sites and viewpoints on the property, including evidence that Bushman lived there and Voortrekkers and Settlers passed through. In 2000, the BRC facilitated the founding of Woza Moya, the community-based NGO, located in Ufafa valley. It continues to support the organisation in a variety of ways.

ADVERTORIAL
Is your pet ready for Spring? At last Spring is here and the furkids are wagging their tails with delight! The long, cold winter days are over and they can finally romp around outdoors in the sunshine. Now that hibernation season is behind us, it's time to give your pet a 'spring clean' and prepare them for the new season ahead. Here are 6 tips to ensure optimal well-being for your pet.
#1 Allergies Just like humans, our furkids also suffer from seasonal allergies. However, unlike humans who sneeze and sniffle, the first sign your pet is suffering from an allergy is skin irritation. Pets who are experiencing allergic reactions tend to have dry, itchy skin and break out in rashes. If you notice an increase in your pets scratching, licking or rubbing itself this may be a sign that they are suffering from seasonal allergies. To alleviate symptoms, use supplementary products. You could also try a special Hypo-Allergenic shampoo.
#2 Insects and Parasites As the weather gets warmer, the activity of insects and parasites such as fleas, ticks, worms and flies dramatically increases. This, unfortunately, means a higher risk of your pet being affected by these nasties. To steer your pet clear of irritation and multiple diseases, ensure that you get them appropriately medicated. There are specialised products for ticks and fleas for dogs and cats. There is also an excellent solution for getting rid of worms, and try a repellent ointment for those pesky flies. Sorted.
#3 Weight-control Diet Most pets (and humans) need to shed the weight they put on in winter as a result of inactivity. Get your pet back in tip-top shape by improving their diet and level of activity or exercise. There are many weight-control foods one can purchase to assist with getting your pet's weight back to normal. These foods are generally lower in carbs and richer in protein to promote lean muscle mass.
#4 Exercise Following on the previous point, along with a healthier diet, an increase in exercise will also assist your pet with shedding excess winter weight. Pets generally tend to spend a lot more time indoors during the cold winter months but Spring brings warmth, sunshine and the perfect conditions to get outdoors and active! Have fun in the sun by walking in the park or entertaining your dog or cat with an awesome toy.
#5 Water With the increase in temperature, your pets will need to hydrate more frequently. Make use of a pet water dispenser to ensure that there is always enough fresh, cool water for them to drink.
#6 Moulting Spring means hair, hair and more hair! As every pet owner already knows, spring brings shedding! Brushing your pet regularly not only dramatically decreases the amount of hair that ends up all over your home, but also keeps your pet cooler. Use a harder grooming brush for dogs, and a smaller, softer brush for cats.

People have varying amounts of tolerance to pain and the same is true of their pets. Some dogs may yelp and cry at the least discomfort, whilst another my not limp on an injured leg until it’s extremely damaged. Cats are notorious for being stoic and not showing that they are in pain. Knowing your pet and his habits and behaviour is often the trigger to realizing he is hurting. You need to know what is normal for your pet, to be able to tell what is abnormal for them. The skill of observing with a critical eye can be learned by anyone, and it starts with a genuine love and interest in your pet, his behaviour, posture and habits. There are symptoms to watch for but often the first sign of pain in a family pet is the feeling of the owner that “something isn’t right”. When that impression remains for several days, a trip to the vet for a check-up is a good idea. Symptoms of Pain: Vocalizing Your dog may whine when he rises from a sitting position or yelp when he jumps down from a chair. He may whimper when you massage a shoulder or make moaning or groaning sounds when at rest. Your cat’s purring may actually increase, or he may be meowing incessantly or differently. Panting is normal for dogs but constant panting in the absence of exercise or heat is unusual. Cats in pain may have a faster and more shallow breathing pattern than normal. They may also even pant. Conscious Life Magazine
Posture Know your pet’s normal posture at rest, as well as his normal gait. Sometimes postural changes may be very obvious e.g. our dog may limp with one leg or may appear to walk in an awkward, hunched position holding his front end and back end at uneven heights, or your horse may stand with his head in a lowered position. (When he stands with his head lower than his knees, it should set-off major alarm bells). If you know your pet’s “body language” , it will be easier to see when there is a deviation from the normal pattern.
“Cats in pain may have a faster and more shallow breathing pattern” Level of Activity Owners accustomed to a pet who follows them from room to room may notice the animal staying in one place instead. The dog may lay down, get up, circle and lay down again repeatedly trying to find a comfortable position and may have difficulty getting up after laying down. Cats experiencing pain often move around less. But depending on what hurts, they may still move around the same amount, just differently. They may move with a limp, or go more slowly up or down the stairs. Horses may show a decrease in activity or be reluctant to move, or may lag behind the rest of the group.
Heart and Pulse Change Animals in pain will often have an increased heart/pulse rate. The rate often noticeably speeds up when the painful area is touched or moved. You can enrol in a pet’s first aid course, or ask your veterinarian or veterinary nurse to show you how to check and measure your pet’s pulse rate. Behavioural Changes Your pet may avoid social contact, or growl or snap when you touch part of his body or manipulate a joint. He may withdraw from petting and be reluctant to participate in play activity. Some dogs may become more needy than usual and seem to be asking for constant attention. Incessant licking, scratching or chewing of one part of the body is a visible indication of itching or pain and an increase in drooling is another sign of a problem. Be aware of changes in your horse’s behaviour in his turn-out group. Very often bad behaviour in horses have been attributed to them having a nasty character, but these unwanted behaviour patterns – swishing of the tail if you pass to close to their hind quarter, bucking, or dropping of the shoulder may be due to the fact that they are in pain. Cats in pain are more likely to bite and scratch. This is true even with their owners and other familiar people. This is particularly true when a person touches or moves the painful area, or if the cat anticipates you touching or moving the painful area. Cat’s may have a decrease in self-grooming when ill, or may groom excessively in an area with a wound. If your cat suddenly hides under beds or in cupboards it is s sure sign that he is in pain. Should your cat start to urinate or defecate outside his litter box it may be a sign of back/joint pain. They will struggle to get in and out of the litter box and
also with the posture needed to defecate, and as a result may become constipated. Feeding changes Animals may lose their appetite when they are in pain or appear unusually tired or lethargic. Be aware of their feeding habits and pay attention to their feeding routine and changes to these routines. When they do go and eat and experience some pain in their mouth or the cause of their pain is related to their teeth, then they may drop food/water out of their mouth whilst eating/drinking. Appearance Animals display facial expressions that their human companion recognize as part of the personality of their pet. A change in expression or physical appearance may be an indicator of a pet who is in pain. Ears laid back may be unusual for the animal and a vacant stare that replaces the attentive look, or eyes that seem constantly tired and sleepy may be subtle clues of a joint that is aching or an injury that needs treatment. Strained, tense nostrils, mouth and prominent chewing muscles, flattening of the horse’s profile, as well as tension seen above the eye area is a sure sign that your horse needs the vet or blacksmith or some dentistry. Treatment for Pain Relief: Seek advice from your vet as soon as you notice your pet is in pain to determine the cause of pain. Prompt treatment can halt the progression of serious illness and relieve discomfort quickly. Finding the cause of the discomfort can often lead to treatments with pet medicines that will control or even eliminate pain for the animal. Please do not self-medicate your pet. Many fatalities have occurred with caring pet owners medicating their pets with human medicine. You can cause your pet severe

DOES YOUR PET SUFFER FROM STRESS AND ANXIETY? Our lives can often be very stressful and our pets are not excluded from this byproduct of our modern lifestyle. Some of the common causes of fear and stress in animals are: Unusual noises (thunder), unknown places (relocation), travelling, unusual places (visit to the vet or dog parlour), unusual odours, crowding, extreme temperatures, inconsistent handling, absence of their owner, excessive feeding etc. ECO-FEAR and ECO-TRAVEL have been lovingly designed to assist your furry friend when they are faced with anxious and fearful situations. It is completely natural and have not side-effects because we love animals, Naturally.
ITCHING & SCRATCHING? There is no doubt that dogs in particular have huge problems in relation to skin disease. There are many reasons why this is so. Some dogs have allergies to colorants and other additives in dog food; including the expensive brands, some have specific allergies to gluten, in particular, which is found in many cereals. Some dogs such as Staffies and Bull terriers have such a fine skin with very little hair to offer them as protection against external irritants including grasses, shampoos and the sun, that they are more seriously affected than many other breeds. Eco-Vet has a range of products that deal with various skin conditions. Please visit our website to see our full range, varying from skin conditioners to heart medication. Nianell Barnyard Theatre 7 October 2017 My Beautiful Escape Internationally successful singersongwriter, Nianell, is set to blow audiences away with the launch of her latest album, My Beautiful Escape
My Beautiful Escape is Nianell’s first full length album in two years and it is filled with tracks that range from hauntingly beautiful to upbeat and experimental. Nianell has released a steady body of work across her illustrious career, raking in awards and becoming one of the most recognised names in the Southern African music landscape. She has endeared herself to both Afrikaans and English audiences, solidifying a reputation as one of the most versatile and talented singer-songwriters our country has to offer. My Beautiful Escape is at times reminiscent of Nianell’s earliest works – but imbued with enhanced maturity and fearlessness that only a tempered soul is capable of. The album leads the listener through a sonic adventure – a sweeping journey through Nianell’s four octave range. She spirits the listener away on her personal escape and tells her own story through words that could be canonised as poetry and melodies that will be remembered for generations to come. “This is my most personal album,” Nianell says. “But I also found it to be my most universal. People will find their own stories as I share mine on this album – and it is my sincere hope that the music on this album will inspire and heal,” she adds. Nianell will be touring the country with her My Beautiful Escape-tour, and this performance is the official kick-off concert.

The Energy Code by Dr Ela Manga We are facing a global personal and collective energy crisis. Being busy and exhausted is becoming a shared narrative of modern living. Energy is not just an expression of our physical health, but also of our mental and emotional functioning. The nature of digitally based modern lives means that our natural energy sources are constantly being tugged at and pulled on. The skill we require now is no longer balance, but rather integration. This requires an awareness of the natural laws that govern energy and ways we can harness stress in a positive way, at the same time staying centred in midst of chaos. This book is about bringing awareness to the basic laws and principles of energy by weaving together the science of western medicine, neuroscience, and eastern philosophy. It is the crystallisation of Dr. Ela Manga’s experience and insights gained in the cutting edge science of mindfulness based energy management. It is relevant for anyone who faces the challenge of supporting health and meaningful relationships while pursuing their passion and vocation.

Education The quality of education in the foundation years has a lasting impact and we are working hard to ensure that every child receives quality basic education.
Child Protection South Africa is marked by high levels of violence and exploitation of children in places where they should be safe. All children should thrive in a safe environment.
Health & Nutrition No child under the age of 5 should die from preventable disease and all our children deserve long-term good health.
Children’s Rights Insufficient recources prevent children from achieving their rights as enshrined in the South African Constitution. We are campaigning for a strengthened childrights system
One in Every Four Children Being Robbed of Their Childhood One in every four children being robbed of their childhood, new report from Save the Children finds One quarter of the world's children are being denied a childhood, a new report from Save the Children has revealed. The report includes a global index ranking the places where childhood is most and least threatened. Launched to coincide with International Children's Day, the Stolen Childhoods report has found that at least 700 million children—and possibly hundreds of millions more—have had the promise of a full childhood brought to an early end.
The reasons vary from extreme violence and conflict, often driving families from their homes; early marriage and pregnancy; child labour, poor health and not being able to go to school. In South Africa, the high levels of child homicide and extreme violence against children is the most concerning indicator.
