ed’s letter Dear Conscious Life Friends We have decided that I will write this month’s Ed Letter as I seldom do even though I am Deputy Editor. Our cover this month is the lovely Nianell, a true lady who is beautiful inside and out. Not only is she a Singer, Songwriter, Musician, but she is also a published author and Theta Healing Master. She tells us more about her path, raising triplets and how she plans to be even younger looking, more energised and still living life to the full 5 year and more from now. I learned the other day that my extremely fit and slim brother in law has hereditary high cholesterol which caused for him to collapse a few weeks ago. For this reason, we are repeating the article on cholesterol – we all need to be aware. It makes no difference if you are slim and fit. We also talk about stress related illnesses and the 5 signs that you may have one. Another thing which is close to my heart, animal welfare, and its for this reason that I am a vegetarian. I plan to go vegan and so have included an article looking at why Veganism is healthier not only for us and animals, but for the planet too. We trust you will page through this magazine and find something that resonates with you. APR-MAY 2017

by Margi McAlpine (Channelled through Lord Serapis Bey) I feel my feet firmly on the ground. I see beautiful golden roots growing out of the soles of my feet anchoring and grounding me to the wonderful energies of the African soil. I ask Archangels Michael and Metatron to place their protective cloaks around me and the Continent of Africa. I call in all the Beings of Light who are working with me and through me to clear and heal the Continent of Africa, especially Archangel Metatron and Lord Serapis Bey. I visualise myself facing North. I give thanks that the prayers and light I send will move upwards reaching the next light worker like a bridge. In this way the whole of the African Continent will be lit up with amazing bridges of light. I see the ancient Ley Lines under the earth. Once they carried light and energy, now they are filled with darkness and fear. I send light into each and every one of them pushing out the darkness. I thank the Angels and Beings of Light for bringing in the Golden, Silver, Violet Flame to assist with this. These important lines are now energised and full of light. (take your time to see them being cleared and lit up) I concentrate my energies on the grids in the etheric around the Continent. Once bearers of light, these grids now hold the fear of Africa around the Continent like a vice. I thank the Angels and Beings of Light as they bring in the Golden, Silver, Violet Flame to clear the debris by filling them with light and love. The grids are once more Beacons of Light holding the Continent in unconditional love. (take your time to see them being cleared and lit up) I call on the Mighty Archangel Metatron, the Archangel of Africa to enlighten and awaken the Continent enabling healing to take place and the ancient wisdom and teachings to be returned. Thank you for the healing of all her people, especially the children and elderly and those who have been traumatised by violence, war, poverty and disease. Thank you for the healing of Nature, including all the animals, birds, insects, sea creatures, the land, the waters, plants and trees. Thank you that Africa is flourishing under just leaders who work with integrity. I give thanks for being an African either by birth or circumstance because Africa is the Cradle of Mankind and will lead the way into the light and I am privileged to be a part of this movement. I put the whole of the African Continent in a beautiful white bubble of protective light and unconditional love and entrust it to Archangel Metatron. “I give thanks today For my journey forward To stand in my Highest Power To be of Divine Service “ (Reshmi Singh)

If you want to reduce your stress levels, you have firstly to be aware of the potent signs of a stress related illness. The experts have confirmed what you must have felt for years. Health professionals and doctors worldwide agree that stress is not just a psychological hang-up, but a potent cause of illnesses. According to prestigious academic institutions such as Harvard University and the Mayo Clinic, stress increases the likelihood of many health conditions, including GI issues, cognitive decline and heart disease. Though this may be, it is still a task for the brain to differentiate between a true trigger and a psychological reaction. It is useful to understand how illnesses relate to stress. Spotting the signs of a stress related illness will go a long way towards reducing them. Of course, you should know how doctors treat them.

How Stress Relates to Health According to WebMD, a staggering 43% of adults suffer from the negative consequences of stress. Up to 90% of doctor’s visits are for stress-related ailments. Stress may seem like a harmless psychological quirk, but it may have more impact on your body than you realize. For a start, it generates tension that can develop into nasty headaches. That, in turn, leads to a lack of needed sleep. Fatigue sets in and depression follows. Stress can trigger hypertension and other heart-related problems. Palpitations may arise as well. It may also cause significant damage to the liver and heart disease. Stress may lead to digestive problems. It is also a top cause of Erectile Dysfunction and Infertility. Increased pressure may decrease your immunity as well. Snacking, overeating and by extension, obesity, often result from excessive mental pressure.

Signs of a Stress Related Illness You will know if you feel unwell. What you may not know how to do is ascertain if your queasy feelings are a result of mental pressure. 1. Diagnostic Tests Turn Up Negative One sign of a stress related illness is if the doctor cannot seem to find anything amiss after performing a battery of tests on you. Tests do not measure stress and its effects, so if they turn up negative in spite of your pain, you may be facing more pressure than you realize.

2. The Pain is Not Stationary Stress related pain does not occur in particular parts of the body. It tends to move around and leave you flabbergasted. If you have back pain, for example, it may take place in the upper back on one day and in the lower the next.

3. You feel tense in every part of your body You would feel the tension in many parts of your body if you suffer from stress. These would include stomach issues, headaches and very often, tightness in the chest.

4. You do not sleep well Slowing down and falling asleep would prove difficult if your body has many stressors. Such a reaction is a sign that your body needs time to recuperate and digest the things that are happening to you.

5. Focusing is an issue Excess stress may make concentrating a chore. You may find it hard to focus on your tasks. You would also think of the “big picture” and forget the intricacies of the moment.

10 Easy Ways to Bring Your Stress Levels Down You would not need convincing to reduce your stress. But looking for a way to do so amid your hectic schedule would prove a massive hurdle. 1. Listening to Music Music is a potent stress reliever. Experts maintain that it reduces cortisol, and consequently, blood pressure. Choose quiet, instrumental tunes, or listen to the relaxing sounds of nature.

2. Talk to a Friend A listening ear is always an effective stress reliever. Call a friend or a loved one when you feel your pressure building. A stable support system a critical part of a healthy lifestyle and helps to put things in perspective.

3. Talk Calmly to Yourself A foolproof way to deal with a stressful situation is to talk calmly to yourself. Ask yourself why you feel stressed up, and more importantly, what you must do to bring your pressure down.

4. Develop Healthy Eating Habits Like most people, you may turn to food to comfort yourself when you feel stressed. Avoid sugary food and pastries when the pressure builds. Try snacking on fruits and vegetables instead.

5. Have a good belly laugh The adage goes that laughter is the most efficient medicine. The saying is true; laughing is a proven way to reduce the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline. So, it is confirmed – a belly laugh improves mood.

6. Tea The caffeine in coffee causes your blood pressure to rise over the short term. It also causes the pituitary and adrenal glands to overwork. Instead of reaching for coffee, try green tea. It contains half the caffeine in coffee and has a host of valuable antioxidants. Green tea has Theanine, an amino acid that soothes the nervous system.

7. Exercise Exercise does not mean power lifting. It may just mean standing up at your desk and stretching. It gets your blood flowing, releases endorphins and improves your mood.

8. Sleep Stress, of course, worsens sleep. Try to get a daily dose of seven to eight hours of rest. Make it a point to turn off your lights early and give yourself time to wind down before going to bed.

Every stress related illness is manageable if you take the time to spot the above signs. References: Pick The Brain Health Line WebMD

According to the World Bank and Standard & Poor, only about 33% of the world’s adult population are financially literate. In other words, only 33% of adults worldwide understand how money works, which enables them to make informed and effective decisions with their financial resources. If you’re reading this article, you might form part of the 33% who doesn’t recognise that money makes the world go round or understand how to make and work with your money. The sad thing is that financial literacy is probably not something you learnt at school. And yet, imagine how different - and simpler – your life could have been if you had gained insight on how to work with your personal finances when you were a child. It was exactly this realisation – that kids aren’t taught enough about money and personal finance management – that inspired Kathryn Main to start Money Savvy Kids, an organisation that teaches kids that “money is something to be understood and respected”. When she realised that her own son quickly picked up on financial management principles

and grasped financial literacy concepts with ease, Kathryn started focusing on teaching other young kids about money matters too. It comes as no surprise that young children are natural and savvy money ‘managers’ if you consider the fact that children’s neural pathways develop rapidly between the ages of 4 and 12 years – making it the ideal time to teach them about these essential life skills that will set them up for long-term success. Alan Greenspan famously stated that “the number one problem in today’s generation and economy is the lack of financial literacy”. Money Savvy Kids believes in combatting this crisis by empowering all kids from a young age. Join us in the financial literacy revolution and visit www.moneysavvykids.co.za today.

– what you should know! By Indwe Risk Services

One of our biggest goals, as insurance advisors, is to put our clients first; not only by providing insurance solutions, but also by sharing knowledge to ensure they stay safe and well informed. Thus, when the Department of Transport announced that they’ll be implementing amendments to our road regulations in May 2017, we knew we had to share. The reasons for these changes are to reduce road carnage and improve road safety. Knowing (and following) the rules of the road, protects your vehicle, loved ones and wallet (as you shouldn’t receive traffic fines and will be less likely to submit a claim due to a vehicle accident). So, what do you need to know? • • • • • •

Drivers will undergo a practical re-evaluation when renewing their licences. The speed limit will be reduced from 60 to 40km/h in urban areas, 100 to 80km/h in rural areas, and 120 to 100km/h on highways running through residential areas. Heavy commercial vehicles will need to display a maximum speed sticker on the vehicle’s body. Heavy commercial vehicles over 9 000kg, gross vehicle mass, will not be allowed to travel on public roads during peak periods. Bakkie drivers are not allowed to carry more than five people or children in the vehicle’s load bay. There have also been talks about changing the learner’s licence test and implementing new number plates.

If you are looking for first-rate insurance that will put your needs firsts and keep you informed, speak to your Indwe advisor today. Visit www.indwe.co.za or phone 0860 13 13 14, and we will find a tailormade insurance solution for you.

The Wisdom of Menopause The Promise of Transformation and Healing Research into the physiological changes taking place in the perimenopausal woman is revealing that, in addition to the hormonal shift that means an end to childbearing, our bodies—and, specifically, our nervous systems—are being, quite literally, rewired. There is much, much more to this midlife transformation than “raging hormones.” It’s as simple as this: our brains are changing. A woman’s thoughts, her ability to focus, and the amount of fuel going to the intuitive centers in the temporal lobes of her brain all are plugged into, and affected by, the circuits being rewired. After working with thousands of women who have gone through this process, as well as experiencing it myself, I can say with great assurance that menopause is an exciting developmental stage—one that, when participated in consciously, holds enormous promise for transforming and healing our bodies, minds, and spirits at the deepest levels.

As a woman in midlife today, I am part of a growing population that is an unprecedented 48.5 million strong in the United States alone. This group is no longer invisible and silent, but a force to be reckoned with—educated, vocal, sophisticated in our knowledge of medical science, and determined to take control of our own health.

Think about it: more than 48 million women, all undergoing the same sort of circuitry update at the same time. By virtue of our sheer numbers, as well as our social and economic influence, we are powerful—and potentially dangerous to any institution built upon the status quo. Baby boom women (those born between 1946 and 1964) are now the most affluent and influential group in the world. It’s clear that the world is changing, willingly or otherwise, right along with us. And in many instances, it’s changing for the better. It’s no accident that the current movement of psychospiritual healing is composed largely of women in their thirties, forties, fifties, and sixties. We are awakening en masse and beginning to deliver a much-needed message of health, hope, and healing to the world.

My personal experience, now shared by millions of others, tells me that the perimenopausal lifting of the hormonal veil—the monthly cycle of reproductive hormones that tends to keep us focused on the needs and feelings of others—can be both liberating and unsettling. The midlife rate of marital separation, divorce, and vocational change confirms this. I, for one, had always envisioned myself married to the same man for life, the two of us growing old together. This ideal had always been one of my most cherished dreams. At midlife I, like thousands of others, had to give up my fantasies of how I thought my life would be. I had to face, head-on, the old adage about how hard it is to lose what you never really had. It means giving up all your illusions, and it is very difficult. But for me the issue was larger than where and with whom I would grow old. It was a warning, coming from deep within my spirit, that said, “Grow… or die.” Those were my choices. I chose to grow. For most women, identity and self-esteem are generated by our associations and relationships. This is true even for women who hold high-powered jobs and for women who have chosen not to marry. Men, by contrast, usually get most of their identity and self-esteem from the outer world—the job, the income, the accomplishments, the accolades. For both genders, this pattern often changes at midlife. Women begin to direct more of their energies toward the world outside of home and family, which may suddenly appear as a great, inviting, untapped resource for exploration, creative expression, and self-esteem. Meanwhile, men of the same age—who may be undergoing a midlife crisis of their own—are often feeling world-weary; they’re ready to retire, curl up, and escape the battles of the workplace. They may feel their priorities shifting inward, toward home, hearth, and family. The woman in menopause, who is becoming the queen of herself, finds herself at a crossroads of life, torn between the old way she has always known and a new way she has just begun to dream of. A voice from the old way (in many cases it’s her husband’s voice) begs her to stay in place—”Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.”

But from the new path another voice beckons, imploring her to explore aspects of herself that have been dormant during her years of caring for others and focusing on their needs. She’s preparing to give birth to herself, and as many women already know, the birth process cannot be halted without consequences. Caring for others and pursuing unexplored personal passions are not necessarily mutually exclusive choices, but our culture makes them seem so, always supporting the former at the expense of the latter. This is part of what makes the midlife transformation so much of a challenge—as I know only too well. Throughout most of human history, the vast majority of women died before menopause. The average life expectancy for a woman in 1900 was only forty. For those who survived, menopause was experienced as a signpost of an imminent and inevitable physical decline. But today, with a woman’s life expectancy at eighty-four years, it is reasonable to expect that she will not only live thirty to forty years beyond menopause, but be vibrant, sharp, and influential as well. The menopause you will experience is not your mother’s (or grandmother’s) menopause. Women of the World War II generation, whose female role models tended to be like June Cleaver on Leave It to Beaver, had an entirely different social and political environment in which to make their transition. Menopause (like menstruation, for that matter) was not discussed in public. Today this is no longer true. As we break this silence we are also breaking cultural barriers, so that we can enter this new life phase with eyes wide open—in the company of more than 48 million kinswomen, all undergoing the same transformation at the same time. And, as you’ll soon discover, the changes taking place in midlife women are akin to the power plant on a highspeed train, whisking the evolution of our entire society along on fast-forward, to places that have yet to be mapped. Whether you climb aboard this fast-moving train or step aside and let it pass will play a major role in how far you go and how you feel along the way. Ultimately, I’ve found this journey bracing, exciting, and health-enhancing. And I’m certainly not alone. A 1998 Gallup survey, presented at the annual meeting of the North American Menopause Society, showed that more than half of American women between the ages of fifty and sixty-five felt happiest and most fulfilled at this stage of life. Compared to when they were in their twenties, thirties, and forties, they felt their lives had improved in many ways, including family life, interests, friendships, and their relationship with their spouse or partner. In other words, the conventional view of menopause as a scary transition heralding “the beginning of the end” couldn’t be further from the truth. So no matter what is happening in your life right now, take heart. Please join me—and the millions of others who have come before and will come after—as we transform and improve our lives, and ultimately our culture, through understanding, applying, and living the wisdom—and joy—of menopause and beyond.

How This Chai Spice Lip Balm Recipe Gives You Fuller Lips The complex, earthy scent of Chai spice is sort of magical, isn’t it? By Stephanie Rose The boldness of ginger and cloves co-mingle with the warmth of vanilla and cinnamon to produce a fragrance that is invigorating and comforting all at once. I love Chai spice no matter what form it comes in – whether it’s tea, lattes, or baked goods – so of course I’m a big fan of this DIY Chai spice lip balm. The fragrant spices in this Chai spice lip balm work to wake you up and make your lips tingle. The spiciness of this recipe will encourage blood flow to the lips, giving them a plumper, fuller look and a subtle rosy hue. If you have sensitive lips, use half the essential oils and/or avoid using this lip balm if you don’t like the sensation.

Ingredients: Makes 12 tubes

Make it!

Melt the oil and waxes in a double boiler. Remove from heat, add essential oils and blend well. If you want your lip balm to have a little color to it, add the optional cocoa powder at the same time as the essential oils (without the cocoa it will be a natural creamy color). Keep stirring as you pour the lip balm into tubes as the cocoa will settle quickly. Leave untouched to set.

4 Tbsp castor oil 4 tsp beeswax pellets 1 tsp carnauba wax 8 drops cinnamon essential oil 8 drops vanilla absolute essential oil 4 drops clove essential oil 2 drops ginger essential oil Optional ¼ tsp cocoa powder

What is a Chronic Bladder infection? Recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), also known as chronic bladder infections, are defined as having at least 2 infections in 6 months, or 3 infections in 1 year. Often, they are caused by a type of bacteria that is different from the infection before it, which means that the new infection is separate from the last infection. Chronic bladder infection, also called cystitis, is a bacterial infection of the bladder or lower urinary tract and is caused by bacteria that attach to the inside lining tissue of the urinary system. Although the urinary system is designed to keep out such microscopic invaders, the defenses sometimes fail. When this happens, bacteria may take hold and grow into a full-blown infection. Although any part of the urinary system can become infected, most infections occur in the lower urinary tract - the bladder and urethra. The urinary system reacts to an infection similarly to how our respiratory system reacts to a cold. The tissues in the tract become inflamed, irritated and swollen causing pain and partial obstruction to urine flow, similar to how our bodies react during a lung infection or sinus infection. The condition is very common, and most often affects sexually active women age 20 to 50. Sexual intercourse may increase the risk of cystitis. However, the infection may also occur in those who are not sexually active.

Treatment of bladder infection Treatment of bladder infections. Anyone that has suffered from a bladder infection would agree that the painful symptoms can easily ruin one's day. A bladder infection can dominate one's thoughts and inhibit physical activities and movement as a result of a constant urge to pass water, which typically result in an extremely painful process with little or no success. In addition, its is not uncommon to also experience other symptoms like upper back and side pain, high fever, shaking and chills, nausea and vomiting. Pelvic pain in women and rectal pain in men is also common.

Treatment Options Traditionally anti-acids are used in the treatment of mild instances of bladder infections, and antibiotics in more severe cases. The biggest problem with these solutions is that conceptually it only treats the symptoms of the bladder infection and not the root cause. This is why many chronic sufferers of bladder infections have to obtain repeat antibiotics on a monthly basis. The medication provides temporary relief, but in many instance the bladder infection returns in a matter of days because the root cause of the bladder infection was not addressed. In addition the overuse of antibiotics is well documented and its effectiveness over the long run might not be preferable. Cranberry is also widely used to manage bladder infections, but generally large quantities of cranberry or related products have to be consumed to be effective. This can be rather expensive and negatively affect one's diet. So how does one effectively address bladder infection? Again, the answer is DMannose

How can DMannose relief the symptoms of Bladder infection? As the DMannose passes through the kidneys, a considerable proportion of the sugar is extracted and added to the urine. The DMannose-sweetened urine flows from the kidneys through the ureters to the bladder and on to the urethra, literally sugar-coating any free-floating E.coli it might encounter and preventing them from attaching to any cells. It also dislodges any bacteria which already attached to the inner surface of the bladder and urinary tract, ultimately flushing them all down the toilet.

Cholesterol…

Infamously labeled as a “silent killer”, High cholesterol causes no symptoms and could easily go undetected until serious damage occurs. As with most things that are out of sight and out of mind, many of us forego the self-discipline it requires to protect our hearts in favour of more immediate gratification. Understanding the risk factors involved in cholesterol and what we can change in our lifestyles to prevent it are the first steps towards overcoming it. Some major contributing factors include: Cholesterol is an insoluble, white and waxy substance that is carried around the body through the blood by two transporting systems: Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol This is referred to as ‘bad’ cholesterol, because it can clog up your arteries when there is too much of it in the bloodstream. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol This is referred to as ‘good’ cholesterol, as it helps remove excess cholesterol out of the cells, including cells in the arteries. Cholesterol is almost directly relative to what you put into your body, it is a lifestyle disease – so take control of your life, starting today!

Being overweight or obese A general lack of exercise Unhealthy eating patterns Alcohol abuse Smoking, which destroys good HDL cholesterol Diseases like Diabetes, Hypothyroidism, Polycystic ovaries, and kidney disease • Certain medications, including birth control pills and some antidepressants

Our cholesterol has a very close relationship to the levels of fat we consume. Dangerous Fats The fats we need to be avoiding in excess are saturated fat and trans fat. These fats raise your cholesterol and increase your chances of heart disease and type-2 diabetes.

Healthy Fats Don’t worry though; it’s not all bad news, since having small amounts of fat is a crucial element to a healthy diet. Not only will it improve your skin, nails and hair, it will especially benefit your heart. Never eliminate healthy fats from your diet, as you will be losing out on precious minerals and nutrients. Foods to Avoid • Palm / palm kernel oil • Whole-milk dairy products • Processed meats and animal skin • Butter • Cream • Ice cream • Cheese – Gouda, cream cheese and cheddar • Fast Foods • Shellfish – shrimps, oysters, clams, and mussels • Refined foods – baked goods and sweets Foods to Include • Raw olive and flax seed oil • Oatmeal, oat bran and high-fibre foods • Fish and omega-3 fatty acids – mackerel, herrings, sardines, tuna, salmon • Walnuts, almonds and other nuts • Plant sterols or stenos – these are substances found in plants that help block the absorption of cholesterol, and certain foods are now available that have been fortified with these substances. Foods under Debate The public often receives very mixed messages about foods that are both good for you, but can also raise cholesterol levels. Here, it helps to remember that balance is the most important element of any diet. Fruit, for example, is a healthy sugar which would add vital nutrients to a balanced diet, but could compound excess sugar issues when added into a diet already high in sugar.

Conscious Life Magazine

Nutrient-dense saturated fats or foods containing cholesterol are much the same. Coconut oil and egg yolks, for example, are both incredibly nutritious foods – egg yolks are packed with protein and an impressive supply of vitamins and minerals, and coconut oil holds its nutritional offerings of lauric acid (only found in breast milk) and other minerals once heated, unlike most cooking oils. Daily Recommendations The key, then, is to keep daily recommendations in check. Nutritious foods containing cholesterol would be counter-productive when eaten in excess. The American Heart Association suggests a daily dietary cholesterol intake of 300mg a day if you are healthy, and 200mg a day if you are trying to lower your cholesterol. Transfats and saturated fats are where most cholesterol is typically found in foods, so monitoring your intake is vital. Transfats are considered non-nutritional, so avoid those at all costs. According to the American Heart Association, saturated fat intake should take up no more than 5 to 6 percent of your total daily calories. For someone eating 2,000 calories a day that’s about 11 to 13 grams of saturated fat.

Making these important lifestyle changes may be all it takes to reduce and even reverse the effects of unhealthy cholesterol. Since the primary symptoms of cholesterol can be almost impossible to detect, it is important to have regular screenings and follow-up testing to keep up-to-date on your state of health and what you can do to improve it. Keep in mind that cholesterol and other readings often depend on certain variables – like time of day and what you’ve just eaten – so make sure you have a practitioner who is keeping this in mind.

1. Slim down and energized: Is shedding

become

some extra pounds first on your list of goals for the new year? Vegans are, on average, up to 20 pounds lighter than meat-eaters are. And unlike unhealthy fad diets, which leave you feeling tired (and usually don’t keep the pounds off for long), going vegan is the healthy way to keep the excess fat off for good while leaving you with plenty of energy.

2. A healthier, happier you: A vegan diet is great for your health! According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, vegans are less likely to develop heart disease, cancer, diabetes, or high blood pressure than meat-eaters are. Vegans get all the nutrients that they need to be healthy, such as plant protein, fibre, and minerals, without all the nasty stuff in meat that slows you down and makes you sick, such as cholesterol and saturated animal fat.

3. Save the planet: Meat is not green. Consuming meat is actually one of the worst things that you can do for the Earth. It is wasteful and causes enormous amounts of pollution, and the meat industry is also one of the biggest causes of climate change. Adopting a vegan diet is more effective than switching to a “greener” car in the fight against climate change.

4. Pigs are smarter than your dog: Although most people are less familiar with pigs, chickens, fish, and cows than they are with dogs and cats, animals used for food are every bit as intelligent and able to suffer as the animals who share our homes are. Pigs can learn to play video games, and chickens are so smart that their intelligence has been compared by scientists to that of monkeys.

5. It’s the best way to help animals: Did you know that every vegan saves more than 100 animals a year? There is simply no easier way to help animals and prevent suffering than by choosing vegan foods over meat, eggs, and dairy products.

6. Meat is gross: Meat is often contaminated with faeces, blood, and other bodily fluids—all of which make animal products the top source of food poisoning in the United States. Scientists at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health tested supermarket chicken flesh and found that 96 percent of Tyson chicken was contaminated with campylobacter, a dangerous bacterium that causes 2.4 million cases of food poisoning each year, resulting in diarrhoea, cramping, abdominal pain, and fever.

7. Help feed the world: Eating meat doesn’t just hurt animals—it hurts people, too. It takes tons of crops and water to raise farmed animals. In fact, it takes up to 13 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of animal flesh! All that plant food could be used much more efficiently if it were fed directly to people. The more people who go vegan, the better able we’ll be to feed the hungry.

8. All the cool kids are doing it: The list of stars who shun animal flesh is basically a “who’s who” of today’s hottest celebs. Joaquin Phoenix, Natalie Portman, Ariana Grande, Al Gore, Flo Rida, Tobey Maguire, Shania Twain, Alicia Silverstone, Anthony Kiedis, Casey Affleck, Kristen Bell, Alyssa Milano, Common, Joss Stone, Anne Hathaway, and Carrie Underwood are just some of the famous vegans and vegetarians who regularly appear in People magazine.

9. Look sexy and be sexy:

EDUCATE YOURSELF

Vegans tend to be thinner than meat-eaters and have more energy, which is perfect for late-night romps with your special someone. (Guys: The cholesterol and saturated animal fat found in meat, eggs, and dairy products don’t just clog the arteries to your heart. Over time, they impede blood flow to other vital organs as well.) Plus, what’s sexier than someone who is not only mega-hot but also compassionate?

According to the United Nations, more than 1 billion land animals were raised for food in South Africa in 2013.

10. Vegan food is delicious: So you’re worried that if you go vegan, you’ll have to give up hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and ice cream? You won’t. As the demand for vegan food skyrockets, companies are coming out with more and more delicious meat and dairy-product alternatives that taste like the real thing but are much healthier and don’t hurt any animals. Plus, we have a list of some of our favourite products and thousands of tasty kitchen-tested recipes to help you get started!

DID YOU KNOW? • More than 95 percent of the country’s egg-laying hens are confined in battery cages, spending nearly their entire lives in virtual immobilisation. • More than 50 percent of pregnant sows spend their lives in crates where they are unable to exercise, fully extend their limbs, or engage in many important natural behaviours. Encouragingly, according to SAPPO all new pens created will be open. • Chickens raised for meat are bred for rapid growth, reaching their slaughter weight by six weeks of age, putting tremendous strain on their bones and organs, sometimes rendering them immobile. - The National Center for Biotechnology Information • Extensive scientific evidence shows that intensively confined farm animals are frustrated, distressed, and suffering.

We

caught up with the beautiful, talented, funny and all round amazing lady, Nianell and chatted to her about her new album due to be released in May this year, taking her Theta Healing from Practitioner to Master Level, teaching Theta Healing in SA and raising and home schooling her lovely triplets. Nianell is a very well-known and much loved SA Singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist with 7 beautiful albums under her belt, an 8th on its way and has performed with such world renowned singers as Andrea Bocelli, Christina Aguilera, Diana Ross and Shakira. Each of her songs has a beautiful message and is filled with unconditional love which you can feel emanating from the sound system and a thousand times more when you have the privilege to see her perform live. She believes in making a difference with her music. What some of you may not know, is that Nianell is also a published author, her book “Knowing Who I Am describes a challenging life journey and reveals the story behind the lyrics. We highly recommend that you get a copy through Hay House. What you may also not have known until reading this article, is that Nianell is a certified Theta Healing Master, having found a healing modality that works with and connects to the Divine Energy of the Creator of All That Is, or Creator God as Nianell refers to the energy, she jumped in with both feet and studied as much as she could, surpassing many of us who 1st studied with her. Gracefully soaring, which is her way.

What did you aspire to become when you grew up? I always loved inspiring and motivating people, making them feel happy and loved. I loved telling stories and singing in an attempt to make people feel better. I still do that today.

Did you always know that you wanted to perform? I always knew that I came to sing and speak to millions of people.

We know it’s not the easiest of industries to succeed in, were there times when you were not so sure of yourself and your ability to make it in the industry? I never doubted my ability, but I did not believe that people would accept what I had to offer. I had to learn to have faith, not just in myself and the Creator of all that is, but also in people.

What challenges did you face? Wow, there's not enough space here to go into all the challenges I had to face, but looking back I can honestly say that I created all of them myself by what I believed about myself, others and life.

What are your dreams and aspirations for your music career for the future? It is my goal and focus to continue singing from my heart and soul, to love singing and mostly to sing because I love it. To sing for me, because it's when I sing that I heal, create and feel. For a long time I sang for others, now I sing for me.

Theta Healing: What first drew you to Theta Healing and how did you know this was the modality you wanted to learn? After my Mom passed away 5 years ago, my heart was jolted back to life and feeling. When I felt again, after being numb for many years, I realised that a lot of things needed to change in my life for me to be happy again. For many years I studied different modalities like Brain Gym and Sound Healing, but when I did my first course in ThetaHealing, I realised that this was the best technique for me to become aware of my limiting beliefs and the best tool to really change my life. I'm now have my Masters and Certificate of Science in ThetaHealing and I do sessions and teach the technique to anyone who wants to transform their life.

What is it that you most love about Theta Healing? I love that the Creator of all that is, is the healer and I only witness. Through the Creator of all that is, impossible is possible.

Share with us a little of how your journey took you from studying the basic Theta Healing Practitioner’s course, all the way to Montana in the USA to study to be an instructor with Vianna Stibal herself (Vianna is the founder of Theta Healing) I went to Montana to focus mainly on learning three things. Assertiveness,

Conscious Life Magazine

acceptance and trust/faith. I took a leap of faith by going there, because nothing in my life was certain at the time. I stayed there for two and a half months to complete my studies. It was not easy to be away from my children for such a long time and in general I was taken out of my comfort zone completely. To be honest, I guess deep down I was running away to hide. But while I was there I realised that I cannot run away from myself. I connected with myself again and I decided to embrace, love and accept all of me. I came home motivated to release everything that does not serve my highest good and to move forward. I discovered that everything I wanted and was looking for was already in my life. That I already had it all, I just needed to learn how to receive it. I understand now that I create my own reality with what I believe about myself, others and life and this freed me from feeling like a victim.

Love, joy and peace is my birth right and I accept it with gratitude. I returned home feeling humbled and filled with gratitude. Feeling deeply loved and supported.

How are you enjoying teaching? l am a born teacher. I always create an opportunity to teach. I teach through stories and songs. I believe to be a great teacher one must create a space for others where they can believe anything is possible. Where they can believe in magic and where they feel completely loved and accepted as they are.

Where do you see yourself taking this journey to? I see myself singing and teaching all over the world.

Parenting and Home Schooling:

How do you incorporate socialising with other children?

You have 3 very beautiful daughters, Jade, Tayden and Kaeley who turn 10 in July this year. You once shared with me that having triplets was the best thing to happen to a control freak – tell us more about them and how they have changed your life.

They do sport at a public school close by. They also do horse riding and they always have friends over for play dates.

My girls light up my life in so many ways. I am in awe of them and they teach me so much. I am so thankful for this miraculous experience with them and I treasure every moment I get to spend with them.

With the help of the awesome and beautiful soul, Ronel (or Tannie Ronel as we call her), you home school your girls. How has the journey been? Ronel is that great teacher whom creates the space for everyone to believe in magic and helps us believe that the impossible is possible. I do not know what I would have done without her love and support. I admire her dedication to our divine purpose here and I'm thankful that Ronel chose to join me on this adventure. Like my kids always say: What's going to work? TEAMWORK. Home school has been the perfect choice for my children and they love it. They get personal attention, love and care. They have a wonderful social life and join a primary school close by for sport.

What values and traits do you instil in your girls? I believe in being the example I want my children to become. So I focus on loving and accepting myself. I know that if they can learn to love and accept themselves, anything is possible

As a single mom of triplets, what advice do you have for other mom’s out there partnered or single? Be the person you want your children to become.

Getting to Know Nianell Better: Tell us about a day in the life of Nianell? I can honestly say that not one day is the same, ever!

What are your guilty pleasures? I have many pleasures but I do not feel guilty about them lol. I love Ferreira Rocher with my coffee. Every now and again I eat a whole packet of crisps and I love sleeping late in the morning, very late.

Where do you get the materials and syllabus from?

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Do you have any hobbies?

Syllabus you have to ask Ronel. But we have developed a new way of teaching in our school. We are much more focused on stimulating the brain to think and create, rather then to just memorise like a parrot.

I love a good movie or book. I love taking long baths, meditating in the bath with candles everywhere. I go on wonderful journeys during my meditations. I love taking long slow walks.

Will this take them to matric?

Lesser known talents of yours?

This is something my children can decide for themselves when they are older.

I am clairaudient and very intuitive.

Conscious Life Magazine

List 4 of your favourite things in life and why they are your favourites. My children and Ronel. Kevin. My family and friends. They do not belong to me, but I love spending time with them. Its my most favourite thing to do, being with the people I love.

4 items on your bucket list and why? Paragliding-Why? because I've done all the other stuff like skydiving, bungee jumping, Kloofing, abseiling, river rafting. Paragliding is left. I want to travel to a few more places, I really want to see the Grand Canyon. Visit Japan. Great wall of China.

What are you currently reading and what are your 4 favourite books? Currently re-reading Caroline MyssAnatomy of the spirit. Favourites: Planes of existence - Vianna Stibel. Conversations with God - Neale Donald Walsch. Big Magic - Elizabeth Gilbert. The Honeymoon effect - Bruce Lipton.

Top 10 Bands/Musicians – SA and International I don't really listen to music.

Plans for the future – where do you see yourself 5 years from now? In 5 years time, I will look five years younger, I will still be in love with life and with the people in my life. I will still sing from a place of feeling, I will still dance with every opportunity, play, have fun and enjoy my life as much as I do now. I will be wiser, healthier, wealthier and I'll have more energy than ever.

Thank you Nianell for sharing with us 

Men and women of integrity always take responsibility for themselves and their actions and then do what is for the highest good of all instead of feeding their egos! By Margi from Angel Connection School So many today think it is acceptable to do what benefits them whether it is the right thing to do or not. Has integrity or the lack of it, come into play in a situation or issue that you are involved with? Mankind has been blessed with the precious gift of free will. God blessed us with the gift of choice allowing us to freely decide what we would like to choose and to do so again and again every second of the day. The gift of free will has serious consequences though which many choose to ignore. The choices you make always affect your Karmic debt and your Karmic debt subsequently affects the length of time or number of lifetimes it will take to achieve your Ascension process which will allow your Soul to return to where it belongs.

So what will your choices be? Will you exercise your gift of free choice by utilising your own Divine trust and integrity which is always based on the amount of unconditional love you have in your heart or will you hand over your power to others or to circumstances by simply taking the easier or more popular way out? This takes away your integrity and denigrates your gift of free will and absolute choice It is extremely important for you to stand in your integrity knowing that you work from a perspective of light and love.

Be aware of your ego which so easily can come into play here. Remember that you always need to be working from a “neutral ego. Ego is part of your personality and sometimes you walk a very fine line between positive ego and negative ego. You need a certain amount of positive ego to function properly. Without it you are unable to deal with people and speak your truth. However when the negative ego steps in and you are working from a selfish and self-indulgent perspective, then there is a problem. One of your lessons in dealing with your ego is first of all to love yourself properly and then love and respect others unconditionally with integrity and no judgment.

Do not be swayed by what others are doing or saying. You need to always live in truth and honour as it is only in this way that you are able to hold the God Spark Light that you carry. Gently and lovingly demand that the people in your life work in truth and integrity because you are not prepared to tolerate or accept anything else in your dealings with them.

Try and avoid those who refuse to live in this honorable manner. Listen to your intuition and trust yourself to be steered towards those who work from the same perspective that you do. Always tell the truth even if you are afraid of the reaction you might get or the consequences. Ask Archangel Michael to give you the courage you need and to guide your every thought, word and deed so that you always say and do exactly what is the truth and are able to live in integrity and love! When you live your life in love, light and integrity there is no wrong and everything is always exactly as it should be which is absolutely perfect!!

Angel light and blessings Margi

Have you ever come across a person who you feel as though you’ve known “forever,” even if you’ve just met them?

Have you ever met a person who you immediately connect with, without knowing why? Sometimes these people actually know what you’re going to say before you’ve said anything. Luna and I used to call this “freaky mind connections” because we’d often think and say the exact same thing at the exact same moment. These people who we connect with on a deep heart level are part of what is known as our “Soul Family” or “Soul Group.” If you want to know what kind of role your Soul Group will play in your life and how to recognize members of it, keep reading.

If wanderers who are members of other sects should ask you, “What, friend, are the prerequisites for the development of the wings to self-awakening?” you should answer, “There is the case where a monk has admirable friends, admirable companions, admirable comrades. This is the first prerequisite for the development of the wings to selfawakening.” (AN 9.1) – Gautama Buddha (Anguttara Nikaya)

WHAT IS A SOUL GROUP? A Soul Group is comprised of a single person or group of people that your Soul energetically resonates with on a mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual level at any given moment. These people are members of the same “Spirit Family” as you and they share an intensely strong bond with you that transcends time and space itself. Intuitively, most people tend to describe this connection as sharing the same “frequency” or “vibration” because of the deep harmony felt among such people. Such a deep and harmonious connection goes beyond sharing the same surface-based personality tastes, hobbies and opinions: it’s an intense magnetic and spiritual bond you will feel that is inexplicable to the mind. Therefore, your Soul Group is often described as being comprised of Souls that are cut from the same “energetic cloth” as you. But this deep connection isn’t necessarily romantic.

There are many different types of Soul Group connections that you can develop including soul friends, soulmates, kindred spirits, and twin flames — but they’re all fundamentally the same thing with different functions and unique purposes. Essentially, a Soul connection happens when two people of the same vibrational frequency energetically overlap and share each other’s thoughts, feelings, values, and dreams. Although you might come from different cultures, races, or opposite backgrounds, you will immediately sense an ancient and strong connection in your bones, blood, and very Soul.

To me, the most valuable social experience a person can have is meeting a member of their Soul Group. The defining quality of this type of person is that they make it impossible for you to remain the same person by the time they make their exit. Relationships, like nature itself, have many seasons. Uniting with a Soul Group member can last a few hours on a plane trip, or end after 60 years of friendship. Sometimes only physical death will end (if only momentarily) such connections. Every member of your Soul Group will appear in your life to teach you a lesson and to catalyze your spiritual expansion. However, we are not always ready for our Soul Group – but even this is a lesson unto itself. As existential philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre once famously wrote, “Hell is other people.” Therefore, for some people, coming across a member of their Soul Group will feel like “hell,” especially if such a person is weighed down by negative mindsets, dogma, trauma, and the unwillingness to move beyond unconscious behavior. On the other hand, for some people meeting members of the Soul Group will feel like heaven, as can be seen in the case of Twin Flame and Soulmate encounters. Essentially, how you feel about your Soul Group will be determined by how open you are to changing, growing, and moving past fear.

But the question still remains, why do we have Soul Groups? Metaphysically speaking, Soul Groups are a natural product of the “flow” of Spirit. If you look at the Ocean, you’ll notice that sometimes clusters of waves arise. The same goes for Soul Groups: we are all Spirit, but we are also broken down into many different Soul Groups. These Soul Groups carry out certain roles, namely, to help each other embody the purpose of their Souls. In other words, your Soul Family is here to help you learn, grow, and experience what ancient traditions have referred to as “moksha” or enlightenment. In many spiritual traditions, the obstacles that we face in this life are said to be chosen before birth; that we choose the family we’re born into, the bodies and personalities we develop, and the people we bring into our lives. These people are chosen because we knew they would give us the best chance to learn the many life lessons we needed in order to grow spiritually. Historically, Soul Groups that gained a lot of force and traction created drastic social changes. Take, for instance, the Creative Renaissance, that was composed of figures such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Machiavelli, Thomas More, Copernicus, Francis Bacon, Galileo, Martin Luther and William Shakespeare. There was also the Spiritual Renaissance that was composed of figures such as Gautama Buddha, Mahavira, Makkhali Gosala, and Ajita Kesakambali. In China, there was Confucius, Lao Tzu, Mencius, Chuang Tzu, Lieh Tzu, and in Greece there was Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Heraclitus, and Pythagoras. All of these individuals interacted with each other in different ways that were necessary for a revolution to occur.

Each of these Soul Groups has expanded our collective growth and evolutionary progress. Not only that, but each coming generation will bring in waves of powerful and transformative energies that are built upon the previous progress of earlier Soul Families. By finding your Soul Group, you grow at not only an individual level but also a collective level. Each plan, each path, is equally as important in the overall evolution of the whole. It is only through this profound experience of relating to another on Soul level that drastic change can occur on both an inner and outer level.

12 SIGNS YOU’VE MET SOMEONE FROM YOUR SOUL GROUP Where do you find people from your Soul Group? People have asked me this question so many times, and I once asked the same thing too. But the question isn’t about “where” you will find them – your Soul Group will find you. Instead, the question is “when” you will find them. Over the years, I’ve found that a time comes in your life when you feel a strong pull towards your Soul Group, as if you’re finally ready enough to meet them. When members of your Soul Group reach this same readiness, this synchronicity will bring you together. But this inner feeling doesn’t mean that you should sit around and continue your normal routine without changing anything. You can’t win the lottery unless you buy a ticket. Once you feel ready to meet them, you need to start actively pursuing the encounter. At this point, you need to listen to your intuition or gut feelings rather than your head. Your mind, full of fears and past habits, will guide you toward the path that feels most comfortable and safe. On the other hand, when you listen to your heart, you’ll almost certainly feel uncomfortable as it asks you to step outside of your comfort zone. You’ll find your intuition guiding you towards new places and activities that you’ve never tried before. For example, you might be guided to create an online meetup group, join a cooking class, start tai chi, or even travel.

There are a few ways to tell if you’ve met someone who resonates with you on a Soul level. Here are a few things you might notice: 1. YOUR EYE CONTACT IS DEEP AND ENGAGING You’re not afraid to make eye contact with members of your Soul Family and it doesn’t feel awkward. When you make eye contact, there is something familiar that you both share, something comforting, something ancient. It’s almost as though when you make eye contact you’re tapping into a deeper truth that you both silently understand and share

2. THEY WILL BE MORE SOUL-CENTRIC THAN EGO-CENTRIC Members of your Soul Group will not be interested in ego-centered pursuits such as fame, status, money, and glory. Instead, they will be more soulful, more spiritually mature. For example, they might be interested in conscious living, meditation, healthy eating, yoga, helping the environment, and so forth.

3. YOU’RE MAGNETICALLY DRAWN TO THEM For no apparent reason, members of your Soul Group will “pop out” to you like sore thumbs. You’ll be immediately drawn to them and their energy. Even if you lose touch with them, they will emerge in your life over and over again.

4. BOTH OF YOU SPEAK THE “SAME LANGUAGE” When speaking, both of you share similar thoughts and insights, and you’re on the “same page” emotionally. It’s not uncommon for you to both repeat the same thoughts and words, as if you’re mirroring each other’s minds.

5. YOU FEEL AS THOUGH YOU’VE KNOWN THEM FOR YOUR ENTIRE LIFE You’ve never felt so comfortable and understood by another person in your entire life. Deep down, your connection feels timeless. Even when you first met this person, you felt a strange sense of recognition and familiarity.

6. YOU ALWAYS FEEL ENERGIZED AROUND THEM Whenever you spend time with a member of your Soul Tribe, you’ll feel energetically uplifted rather than drained.

7. THEY APPEAR IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU MOST NEED GUIDANCE The moment you’re open to growing beyond your current layers of fear and limiting beliefs is the moment you’ll attract a member of your Soul Group.

8. HOURS TALKING WITH THEM FEELS LIKE MINUTES Time is completely relative when you speak with someone from your Soul Group. You enjoy talking with them so much that time disappears very quickly.

9. THEY REFLECT YOUR BEST QUALITIES Your Soul Group reflects your best qualities, but they will also challenge you to see and embrace your greatest flaws. Sometimes challenging you will including creating difficult circumstances for you to learn from, or being brutally honest with you (even if it hurts). Whatever the case, you can count on your Soul Group to help you authentically grow.

10. YOU SHARE SIMILAR LIFE EXPERIENCES Themes such as abandonment, abuse, isolation, and other struggles will be shared between you and your Soul Family. Each life theme will be used as a basis for growth, advice, and mutual support.

11. YOUR SOUL FEELS NOURISHED IN THEIR PRESENCE There are some people in life who seem to weigh heavily on your Spirit – your Soul Group is the opposite. You will always feel seen, understand, loved, and uplifted by members of your Soul Tribe.

12. YOU CAN BE YOUR RAW AND AUTHENTIC SELF WITH THEM There is no need to hide, fake or pretend around your Soul Group. Your Soul Group honors and celebrates the “authentic” you both on a personality level, and a Soul level. ***

You might only meet one person from your Soul Group, or if you’re fortunate, you might meet all of them – but this isn’t important. What matters is having the experience of meeting those who share your purpose and mission on Earth to support our collective evolution as a species. I feel blessed to know so many of my Soul Tribe through this work and website. I hope that you are drawn ever closer to your own Soul Group.

Do you know that everything and every situation you create in life is a mirror or hologram of your emotional well-being? By Penni from Divine Space

What does this mean? Well let us say that you stub your right toe. Other than hopping around swearing for a good while (somehow this seems to relieve the pain, doesn’t it?), the reason for creating the situation may be far deeper. We can all see those Sun Goddesses in an instant. You know, the babes that have been burnt to a crisp since their teens, and are now paying the price for it. This is obvious, and there are many people out there lecturing on the do’s and don’ts of sun care. What I want to talk to you about goes a lot deeper than that. In a massage treatment called the Antaneea Technique, we look at everything that makes up the Body: the texture colours and temperature of the skin, and how it changes in different areas of the body. Muscle tone, scarring and bruising are all signposts that the soul has set up to tell your story or history. Do you know that everything and every situation you create in life is a mirror or hologram of your emotional well-being? What does this mean? Well, let us say that you stub your right toe. Other than hopping around swearing for a good while (somehow this seems to relieve the pain, doesn’t it?), the reason for creating the situation may be far deeper. I developed the Antaneea Technique and have been teaching it for 20 years and am amazed at how many stories the body has to tell. To help you understand this let me give you a little insight into the phenomenon that makes up our physical bodies. I believe every one of us has a Soul, and this is the part of ourselves that is on a path of growth and healing. Most of the time we go through life unconsciously. We have our ups and downs, our happy and sad times, and believe it or not, ALL of those experiences are stored in the DNA – much like a computer memory bank, which stores everything that is input into the computer. The way the computer works is dependent upon its programming. If you have a glitch in the system, it keeps tripping you up. Now imagine your Soul as being the Operator inside of you, who wants to help erase some of the glitches in your memory bank. The only way to do that is to make you aware of it, so you can do something about it, because trust me, the only way to put in a new system that works, is to first erase the old.

So we need to be made aware of what needs to be erased, and our Soul does this as little nudges throughout our lives. The stubbing of the toe, the scarring, the umpteenth time we have got into a bad job or relationship etc. All of this is our Soul telling us there is unfinished business from our past that we have not looked at. Until we deal with it, we just keep reproducing the same lessons. Sounds so easy? But as I said in the beginning, each of us are on our own mission, trying to cope with life and its ups and downs while keeping so busy that most of the time we have no idea what the message is. Can you just see the Soul’s frustration when we just don’t get it time after time? I believe our Soul’s way of reversing over us, is when we then start manifesting physical symptoms. Maybe when we are flat on our backs in bed, we will take the time out to notice and be aware. Let’s start learning and changing before that point shall we?

Here are a few simple tips to help your awareness: Let’s look at stubbing your toe: LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE BODY: • • •

It has to do with past unresolved relationship issues. It is the feminine side of the body and relates to woman in your life. How much nurturing and caring you received in your past, relates to how much you are able to give or receive love in your life now.

RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE BODY: • • •

Tells of how you were supported by your father in our childhood? This relates to how well you create the structure and support in our reality right now – jobs, home etc. Look at what it is that you are not trusting as you move into the future.

What keeps tripping you up, and how has that happened before. This is the first simplistic view. Through my years of training, research and massage therapy, I have discovered the ‘Map of The Body’, which hones it down much further. It helps to identify the ages at which the individual first stored a traumatic incident in the cells, which in turn creates a limiting belief. The therapist will guide the individual to remembering the incident; the next step is releasing it

The Antaneea Technique system uses 13 divine Light Matrix Oils, together with sound vibrations and symbols, the combination of which helps to release the issue gently and with very little trauma. This very powerful treatment has to be experienced, to be believed. All you need is the willingness to change and the courage to take that first step. We have a list of amazing therapists waiting to support you – please check them out here. OR if you are interested in training as a therapist in this modality please keep an eye on the newsletter or course diary. This training is usually only held once a year and is a 4-day course.

Yellow & Gold Colour Initiation 27 May What fears are holding you back from truly reclaiming your power and being willing to shine and be seen? We will be addressing and releasing the memory of fear and powerlessness that may be locked in your body (from this lifetime or others), so that you can step into the golden light of your divine self.

Access Bars 6 & 7th May Would you like to expand your awareness while offering the most relaxing therapy possible. Get ready to sweat! This simple yet challenging HIIT workout is designed for you to practise anytime, anywhere. How to do it: Practise each move for 1 minute, followed by a 15-second rest.

Start in a crouching position with your hands on the floor, and knees under your chin. Keeping your arms straight, jump back and stretch your legs out into a plank position. Hold for a moment then jump back to your crouching position. Follow this with a jump straight up into the air to complete the burpee.

Stand with forearms crossed in front of your chest, with feet wide apart and toes pointed out. Sink down until knees are bent to 90 degrees, pause for a moment then rise back up to your starting position.

Lie on your back in a straight line, with arms at your sides. Starting with your legs slightly elevated, draw your knees and chest together and hands forward, past your knees. Hold for a moment then return to your starting position.

This is pretty straightforward. Jog on the spot, lifting knees up to the chest and alternating arms as you move.

Start in plank position with arms and body straight. Draw one knee up to your chest at a time, alternating as quickly as you can.

Stand with feet together and forearms crossed in front of you at chest height. Take a big step back with one foot and sink down until both knees bend to 90 degrees. Pause for a moment then rise back up to starting position. Alternate with other leg.

Start standing with feet wider than hips-width and arms at your sides. Sink down until knees are bent to 90 degrees, reaching hands towards the ground. Rise up by jumping into the air, raising arms above you, then landing and lowering back down into a squat.

Start by lying on your stomach, with elbows bent, hands on either side of your chest and ankles crossed. Keeping your body straight from neck to knees, push up until arms are straight but not locked. Hold for a moment then lower back down to your starting position. Want more of a challenge? Perform the full move, starting in plank position with body straight from neck to toes.

Lie on your back with knees and heels parallel and slightly apart. Drawing your tummy muscles in towards your spine, lift your torso off the ground to form a straight line from neck to knees. Squeeze your glutes at the top of the move then lower back down to your starting position. Want more of a challenge? Keep one leg lifted in a straight line and perform single-legged bridges instead, alternating legs.

Lean on an elevated surface, keeping your arms straight but not locked and heels resting on the floor in front of you. Slowly dip off the edge of the surface, bending elbows to 90 degrees. Hold for a moment then rise back up to your starting point. Want more of a challenge? Rest your feet on an elevated surface in front of you – the higher the surface, the more challenging the move.

Start with feet together and arms at your sides. Jump feet out to the side, raising arms out and up as you do, then jump back in to your starting position.

Start in plank position, with arms and body in a straight line. Draw one elbow up into the air, twisting your body until hips and shoulders are stacked. Squeeze shoulder blades together for a moment then lower back down to your starting position and repeat on the opposite side.

Green Cleaning

Protect Your Health and Conserve Your Environment Posted by Green Light

The term “Green cleaning” refers to methods of cleaning using natural products or products that are made from environmentally friendly ingredients, designed to preserve human health and environmental quality. Green cleaning can also allude to the way in which products are manufactured, packaged and distributed. If the manufacturing process is environmentally-friendly and the products are biodegradable, then the label “eco-friendly” or “green” may apply. (Wikipedia) People are gravitating towards green cleaning techniques and products as they become more aware of the adverse effects of using chemically reactive and toxic ingredients versus the benefits of environmentally-friendly products. Traditional detergents can emit volatile organic compounds causing respiratory, dermatological and other negative health and environmental impacts. Harmful Ingredients in Household Cleaning Products.

Modern consumers do need to keep their wits about them as there are clever marketers who are overgenerous or misleading about the environmental friendliness of their product or service; this is called “green washing”. Here is an interesting and informative article on Green Washing and how to evaluate cleaning products.

IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY, THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD SWITCH TO GREEN CLEANING! Protect your health The majority of ordinary household detergents contain dangerous chemicals, carcinogens, neurotoxins, mutagens, teratogens, or endocrine disrupters – keeping that out of your home and work place is enough of a reason…

Protect the environment Most ideal green cleaning products are made from natural ingredients in a sustainable way; they are safe, non-toxic and biodegradable which is why they don’t have an adverse effect on the environment.

Easy and cost effective Many eco-friendly products area multi-purpose or all-purpose, so when you switch you only buy one product instead of 5 different chemical detergents for different cleaning needs. If you sit down and do the math you will see financial saving space saving and the reduction of waste.

Make your home safer Chemicals (like ammonia and chlorine) can be hazardous when mixed together. Small children and pets especially are more susceptible to higher exposure levels because of their size. It is safer to simply not have this danger lurking around your house.

GETTING STARTED So, where to from here? There are many great biodegradable and safe green cleaning products available on the market if you start looking. Find a manufacturer from your community or support a local retailer that stocks ecofriendly cleaners. Look for a powerful multi-purpose and biodegradable cleaning product that is manufactured as close to home as possible. Should you want to make your own at home, research vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and lemon in your cleaning regime; you will be surprised by the results.

by Juan du Toit We decided to start a WATER WISE CAMPAIGN with advice and tips on how to save water, seeing as water has become a scarce resource in SA and we need to use it sparingly. We made a list of 12 WATER SAVING TIPS to take care of your lawn during this dry spell  Remove no more than 1/3 the height of the grass for any one mowing. Keeping the grass slightly higher will increase shade on the soil, encourage deeper rooting and reduce evaporation. The added height shades the ground, slowing evaporation. Mowing shorter not only provides less protection for the ground, but it also allows quicker uptakes of water into the atmosphere.  Mow in the morning or early evening and not midday - to avoid burning grass.  Try mulching, even if you do not have a mulching mower. Let clippings remain on the lawn. Lawns tend to lose more water and nutrients through evaporation when clippings are removed.  Water thoroughly but infrequently to encourage deeper rooting, increase soil moisture reservoir and to reduce the number of weeds. Letting the grass be "thirsty" encourages deeper rooting.  Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation; it can reduce water usage up to 40%.  Fertilise only twice a year; mid-October and late February. Always use a slow release organic fertiliser. Lush lawns look great, but heavily fertilised lawns use more water and are more susceptible to drought stress.  Water only every 5 - 7 days (if no rain). A soaking rain can extend that period up to 10 -14 days. Most people apply double the amount of water needed.  Do not water lawn on windy days; it increases transpiration and evaporation rates.  If you did not aerate your lawn in spring, consider doing so in the fall. Aeration creates small holes in the ground that allow water to soak deeper into the ground and help promote root growth.  If possible, use soak irrigation lines instead of pop-up heads. These can reduce water consumption up to 60%. If using pop-up heads, align heads to avoid paved surfaces or other non-targeted objects. Regularly check for leaks and install a rain gauge to prevent activation of the system during and just after a rainfall.  Increase organic matter; while this comes naturally to most organic gardeners, many don't realise the benefits of building humus in the soil. Organic matter absorbs many times its weight in water, which is then available for plant growth. It provides many advantages: clay soils with added organic matter will accept water more quickly, and organically amended sandy soils hold water longer and don't need to be watered as frequently. One of the easiest ways to build organic matter is to add Grass Factory & Eco Organic Compost that breaks down to humus. This has an incredible potential to hold moisture, nutrients and build soil health.  Keep the lawn mower blade sharp to make cleaner cuts that cause less water loss than cuts from dull mower blades.

MASON JAR CRAFTS I really love vintage mason jars. I’m not alone, I know. There is a universal appeal to the classic shapes and endless usefulness of these glass vessels. I prefer uniqueness in my collection, and as such I have a mishmash of shapes, styles, brands, and eras. I use them to store my dry goods, infused oils, homemade liquor, and (of course) preserves. They are my drinking glasses, vases, solar lights, and candles as well. I even keep my garden twine in a mason jar! By Stephanie Rose These beachy solar lights are like little treasure jars filled with the calming blue, purple, and green tones of beach glass. The light reflects off of found seashells and a puff of reindeer moss, but the glass almost looks electrified they way it glows! Materials • Mason jar • Mason jar solar light lid • Sand • Beach glass • Shells • Reindeer moss Make it! Gather your materials. I always have a stash of seashells around because I live near the beach, but you could certainly pick up some supplies at a craft store.

Herbs are outdoor plants. There are many plants that can grow well as houseplants, but herbs are not among them. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t choose certain herbs to grow indoors. This article covers which herbs to grow indoors as well as some that you should leave outside. By Stephanie Rose Herbs to Grow Indoors These leafy herbs grow quickly and are the easiest to grow indoors. You can clip a few leaves for garnishing and salads regularly. When the plant looks a bit droopy and sad, move it outdoors and plant another one. Luckily, these are often inexpensive as well so it makes them ideal for using and replacing when needed. • • • • • •

Chives Lemon Balm Mint Parsley (Flat Italian Parsley or Curled Parsley) Tarragon Vietnamese Coriander

These evergreen /evergreen-ish herbs like to live outdoors where the sun shines brightly, the soil keeps their roots dry, and there is enough cold for a period of rest. They are a bit harder to grow indoors as they are slow-growing and slow to adapt to limited light conditions. They may not survive more than a few months, but they look gorgeous in a living planter and you can certainly harvest a few clippings from them when needed. • • • • • •

People have varying amounts of tolerance to pain and the same is true of their pets. Some dogs may yelp and cry at the least discomfort, whilst another my not limp on an injured leg until it’s extremely damaged. Cats are notorious for being stoic and not showing that they are in pain. Knowing your pet and his habits and behaviour is often the trigger to realizing he is hurting. You need to know what is normal for your pet, to be able to tell what is abnormal for them. The skill of observing with a critical eye can be learned by anyone, and it starts with a genuine love and interest in your pet, his behaviour, posture and habits.

Often the first sign of pain in a family pet is the feeling of the owner that “something isn’t right” There are symptoms to watch for but often the first sign of pain in a family pet is the feeling of the owner that “something isn’t right”. When that impression remains for several days, a trip to the vet for a checkup is a good idea.

Symptoms of Pain: Vocalizing Your dog may whine when he rises from a sitting position or yelp when he jumps down from a chair. He may whimper when you massage a shoulder or make moaning or groaning sounds when at rest. Your cat’s purring may actually increase, or he may be meowing incessantly or differently. Panting is normal for dogs but constant panting in the absence of exercise or heat is unusual. Cats in pain may have a faster and more shallow breathing pattern than normal. They may also even pant.

Conscious Life Magazine

Posture Know your pet’s normal posture at rest, as well as his normal gait. Sometimes postural changes may be very obvious e.g. our dog may limp with one leg or may appear to walk in an awkward, hunched position holding his front end and back end at uneven heights, or your horse may stand with his head in a lowered position. (When he stands with his head lower than his knees, it should set-off major alarm bells). If you know your pet’s “body language” , it will be easier to see when there is a deviation from the normal pattern. Level of Activity Owners accustomed to a pet who follows them from room to room may notice the animal staying in one place instead. The dog may lay down, get up, circle and lay down again repeatedly trying to find a comfortable position and may have difficulty getting up after laying down. Cats experiencing pain often move around less. But depending on what hurts, they may still move around the same amount, just differently. They may move with a limp, or go more slowly up or down the stairs. Horses may show a decrease in activity or be reluctant to move, or may lag behind the rest of the group.

“Your pet may avoid social contact, or growl or snap..” Heart and Pulse Change Animals in pain will often have an increased heart/pulse rate. The rate often noticeably speeds up when the painful area is touched or moved. You can enrol in a pet’s first aid course, or ask your veterinarian or veterinary nurse to show you how to check and measure your pet’s pulse rate. Behavioural Changes Your pet may avoid social contact, or growl or snap when you touch part of his body or manipulate a joint. He may withdraw from petting and be reluctant to participate in play activity. Some dogs may become more needy than usual and seem to be asking for constant attention. Incessant licking, scratching or chewing of one part of the body is a visible indication of itching or pain and an increase in drooling is another sign of a problem. Be aware of changes in your horse’s behaviour in his turn-out group. Very often bad behaviour in horses have been attributed to them having a nasty character, but these unwanted behaviour patterns – swishing of the tail if you pass to close to their hind quarter, bucking, or dropping of the shoulder may be due to the fact that they are in pain. Cats in pain are more likely to bite and scratch. This is true even with their owners and other familiar people. This is particularly true when a person touches or moves the painful area, or if the cat anticipates you touching or moving the painful area. Cat’s may have a decrease in self-grooming when ill, or may groom excessively in an area with a wound. If your cat suddenly hides under beds or in cupboards it is s sure sign that he is in pain. Should your cat start to urinate or defecate outside his litter box it may be a sign of back/joint pain. They will struggle to get in and out of the litter box and also with the posture needed to defecate, and as a result may become constipated. Feeding changes Animals may lose their appetite when they are in pain or appear unusually tired or lethargic. Be aware of their feeding habits and pay attention to their feeding routine and changes to these routines. When they do go and eat and experience some pain in their mouth or the cause of their pain is related to their teeth, then they may drop food/water out of their mouth whilst eating/drinking.

Appearance Animals display facial expressions that their human companion recognize as part of the personality of their pet. A change in expression or physical appearance may be an indicator of a pet who is in pain. Ears laid back may be unusual for the animal and a vacant stare that replaces the attentive look, or eyes that seem constantly tired and sleepy may be subtle clues of a joint that is aching or an injury that needs treatment. Strained, tense nostrils, mouth and prominent chewing muscles, flattening of the horse’s profile, as well as tension seen above the eye area is a sure sign that your horse needs the vet or blacksmith or some dentistry.

Treatment for Pain Relief: Seek advice from your vet as soon as you notice your pet is in pain to determine the cause of pain. Prompt treatment can halt the progression of serious illness and relieve discomfort quickly. Finding the cause of the discomfort can often lead to treatments with pet medicines that will control or even eliminate pain for the animal. Please do not self-medicate your pet. Many fatalities have occurred with caring pet owners medicating their pets with human medicine. You can cause your pet severe distress and even death by giving your pet medicine meant for human beings.

Natural Medicines: Eco-Vet has a portfolio of registered natural medicine designed for treating various painful conditions. EcoHeal is a must in your fist aid kit for pain and sudden onset injuries, while Eco-Joint has been created for the treatment of animals with acute and chronic joint strains associated with mainly soft tissue injuries. May be effectively used before hard exercise to protect from work induced injuries. Is an effective remedy for use immediately after hard exercise as an aid to recovery. We lead increasingly busy lives. juggling work, family, personal issues and day-to-day general ‘stuff’. Our energy can feel unbalanced at any time even on the best of days and sometimes stressful situations can totally throw us out of sync. Holistic healing is a wonderful way of balancing your body mind and spirit. Everything is made up of energy. When we are stressed or unbalanced, our entire environment is affected, including our family, pets and our living or working environment. Our animal companions are highly sensitive beings. Their energy centres are easily thrown out of balance by negative energy in the home, i.e. noise, arguments, work stress, loss of a family member and even moving house, which can be extremely stressful for everyone involved. Reiki helps to balance our animal friends and give them a sense of calm and balance, helping them to stay healthy and relaxed, even in the most stressful of situations..

Our homes can also be affected by negativity, creating stagnant energies in our own living space. Space clearing, a specialised area of Feng Shui, can help to restore positive energy and movement into these stagnant areas, creating peace and calm – restoring the natural balance within your home, your sanctuary. A three-part healing experience for you and your animal companions, cleansing all the negative energies within your home environment. HUSKY ROMI WOLF SANCTUARY HuskyRomi is a non-profit organization providing a safe haven for abandoned and abused huskies and wolves in South Africa. We provide a home to all huskies and wolves that can’t be kept as pets because of their complicated nature. Many of the animals arrive in a poor condition, some not even knowing what grass is. They are rehabilitated with loving care by Larry Paul. This website was started to provide support to the HuskyRomi project and to promote the protection of wolves and other wildlife. The sanctuary is open for the public to come and learn about wolves. We do appreciate donations and sponsorship for the buying of food, for veterinary bills and doing maintenance to the enclosures. We currently take care of more than 200 huskies, wolves and hybrids in 54 enclosures.

Get Involved We are working towards getting a formal volunteer program off the ground at HuskyRomi. This is available to both local (South African) and international volunteers.
