Exploring Bucketts Way and The Lakes Way are two ways to see more than just the highway. Bucketts Way is the touring route linking Raymond Terrace to Gloucester and through to Taree. It travels through stunning mountain countryside. It passes through Stroud and Krambach and provides access to the Barrington Tops National Park and several State Forests. If coastal scenery is what you’re after then take The Lakes Way after Bulahdelah. It has breathtaking views of Myall, Smiths and Wallis Lakes. Branch off to Seal Rocks to visit the beautiful lighthouse or have a meal at Pacific Palms or Forster / Tuncurry. Bucketts Way and Lakes Way Drives are on maps page 48-49 and 58-59.

Gloucester and
Barrington Tops
Explore world heritage barrington tops
LEGENDARY EXPERIENCES World Heritage parks
Paddling, horse riding & walking
Gloucester is the closest town to the renowned wilderness destinations of World Heritage Barrington Tops, Woko and Copeland Tops. Barrington Tops is the highest subalpine region outside the Australian Alps and it gets a regular dusting of snow each winter. You’ll be enthralled by high altitude ancient rainforests, towering tree fern groves, snow gum meadows and exhilarating mountain views.
Outdoor activities are our specialty. Try white water paddling by canoe or kayak, the rivers are good for beginners, intermediate and experienced paddlers too. Or try horse riding, you’ll ride scenic riverside trails with a true bushman. Plus there are plenty of walking trails in the parks that take you to rarely visited waterfalls, wetlands and breathtaking lookouts.
Beautiful drives
Visitor Information Centre
Your short detour off the Pacific Highway to Gloucester via the Bucketts Way is one of the state’s oldest tourist drives, and for good reasons: short scenic drives around the district take you to dramatic mountain ranges, breathtaking views, beautiful valleys and platypus-filled rivers. Gloucester is a pretty country town with a remarkable backdrop of the Bucketts Mountains surrounded by three rivers, productive farming valleys and high forested mountains. Plus the golf course is the prettiest in the state!

Take a
drive
on the
wild side Taree, Wingham, Elands, Comboyne, Wauchope & Port Macquarie Tourist Drive 8 is a memorable drive with a distance of approximately 250km from Taree to Port Macquarie, travelling through the Manning Valley, Wauchope and onto Port Macquarie along the Oxley Highway. It is approximately 2.5 hours of driving time but take the whole day to discover the drive at a relaxed pace. The touring route between Bobin and Elands is not recommended when towing caravans. From the south, the drive takes in the towns and villages of historic Tinonee and Wingham nestled on the banks of the Manning River and travels up through Marlee and Bobin into the lush hinterland and onto the Bulga Plateau. There are 36km of unsealed and winding roads from Bobin up to Elands and then into Comboyne, however the views from the plateau are unsurpassed. Just a few kms past Elands is the legendary Ellenborough Falls recorded as the second longest single drop waterfall in the southern hemisphere at 200 metres. There is a viewing platform and a 10 minute stroll to the Knoll on the opposite side of the falls provides excellent photo opportunities. For the adventurous, you can walk to the bottom of the falls with 641 steps back to the top. Take time to explore the village of Comboyne before passing by the stunning rocky outcrop of Bago Bluff and the rolling green plains and patchwork hills of the countryside. From Comboyne, pass through the village of Byabarra and the town of Wauchope on the Oxley Highway which can take you all the way through to Port Macquarie or back onto the Pacific Highway to head either north or south along The Legendary Pacific Coast. wine farmers’
& gate
journey The lush coastal landscapes of The Legendary Pacific Coast, intertwined with teaming rivers and rolling hills, are a grand east coast food bowl delivering up fresh produce from the paddocks, mountains, rivers and sea. A profusion of farmers’ markets bring produce from the paddock to the people. Creative chefs translate the character of the region into contemporary cuisine. A growing band of farmers specialise in organics and fine food producers value add raw product to deliver teas, coffee, wine, boutique beers and a broad range of speciality gourmet goods. Savouring the flavour of the drive is a mouth watering adventure. There are so many good restaurants along the route, more than 40 established farmers’ markets and no shortage of memorable meals and great product. In our trails we trace the character of the region through its producers and some eateries in each location supporting great local produce, great tastes and the future sustainability of their location.
