Online Machinery Sale
The popular monthly collective sale of machinery saw another large entry of over 1800 lots entered and selling to customers from throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland who all enjoy the format of the relaxed viewing days and bidding in comfortable surroundings.
A feature of this sale was the impressive line of up of over 50 tractors and vehicles from local private and trade customers. An eye catching Massey Ferguson 5445 c/w loader, direct from a local farm sold at £15,000 with a Case 140mxm selling at £13,000 and a Case 4210 c/w loader at £10,900. Plant vehicles sold to £9600 for a traded Bobcat T190, £9500 for a Yanmar traded digger, £4100 Hidax Tracked digger, £3200 Viomatsu Tracked Digger.
A wide range of vehicles saw an Isuzu D-Max sell at £6500, Nissan Cabstar at £5800, Vintage ERF lorry (1971) at £4300, Nissan N75 lorry at £3000, Mitsubishi L200 at £1950. A John Deere gator direct off a local farm sold at £6000 with another at £5700, Polaris 570 ATV at £4000, Kubota RTV at £2800 and a Honda 420 ATV at £2600.
An abundance of trailers saw an Ifor Williams 12ft c/w decks and gates sell at £4100, 15ft low loader at £3800, Ifor Williams plant trailer at £3300, Bailey 18ft trailer at £3100 and Ifor Williams flat bed trailer at £2900.

Other items of interest included a portable shower unit selling at £3000, Krone tedder at £3000, Vicon tedder at £3000, milk cart at £2000, wood processor at £2000, Class front mower at £1950, chain harrow at £1750, muck grab at £1600, fleming roller at £1350, Pottinger forager at £1000 and Vicon fert spinner at £760.
The next sale of machinery will be accepting delivery on Monday 31st March and Tuesday 1st April, with several part dispersal from several local farms.

Prime Hoggs
A varied entry of prime hoggs presented today with many vendors selling their last of the season. Hoggs today ranged from 30kg to 90kg, with an SQQ market average of 335p/kg. Well finished standard weight hoggs reminded the easiest to sell, generally 360p/kg to 380p/kg with several of the best pens 400p/kg and topping at 423p/kg for Texel cross from G Beresford & Son, Broughton in Furness. Grass finished hoggs were 315p/kg to 340p/kg, depending on quality and finish.
Today’s sale saw super heavy weight hoggs sell to £200 and £190, with heavier hoggs generally £155 to £165, standards £145 to £160 for the better end and mid range £135 to £142. Several pens of lighter weight hoggs sold to 394p/kg and £149, with others 320p/kg to 350p/kg and £120 to £135.

Cull sheep remained the strong trade which has come to be expected. Continental cross ewes were generally £180 to £205, topping at £212 from G Hargreaves, Scotforth with others £202 from Ripley St Thomas, Lancaster and C Ellison, Pilling. Medium continentals were £150 to £175, with the leaner end with frame £130 to £145. Cheviot Mules sold to £180 from G Beresford & Son, Broughton in Furness with North Country Mules £169 from WN&D Smith & Sons, Cockerham. Other better end ewes were £150 to £165. Hill ewes sold to £147 for Cheviots with a leaner entry of horned ewes to £90. Cull rams sold to £190 with others £160 to £180 and mediums £130 to £150.

Pigs
60 pigs of all classes were forward today, with trade fairly level right through. The sale topped at £205 for a pen of four gilts from D Nicholson, Cockermouth with J&JR Stott, Kingsland next with his three gilts reaching £195. Hogs sold to £192 from JM Navesey, Darwen with boars to £140 from WE Gregson, Wrea Green.
Stores sold to £78 from W Stamper, Chipping with others at £50 from A&S Nightingale, Lancaster.
Prime Hoggs
Vendors old and new enjoy a fast hogg trade at Junction 36.

The prime hogg traded raced to 485p/kg for a Beltex from J Mason, Carnforth. Other Beltex sold to 434p/kg from M Beresford, Broughton in Furness. Heavy hoggs were noticeably less money again on the week, especially for the plainer end, however well fed types continue to tick along nicely. A pen of eleven Texels from GM&A Jackson, Little Eccleston sold to 414.9p/kg for 47kg. The same good farming saw their 54kg hoggs reach 392p/kg or £212. Lighter hoggs were also very good to sell, with 36kg Texels from RT Colbear, Appleby making 403p/kg or £145 for a pen of four. Today saw hoggs ranging from 24kg to 72kg with on overall average of 340p/kg achieved.
Mules sold to £164 from WI&AM Atkinson, Bleasdale for a pen of fourteen Cheviots to £165 from Stockdale Farms, Sedbergh. Herdwicks hit £154 from A Hartley, Broughton in Furness. Breeding Sheep
The first ewe and lamb sale of the season commenced today at Junction 36. A total of thirty one families consisting mainly of Mules, Cheviot and Lleyns with a small handful of continentals predominantly singles, came to a total average of £299 a family.
Topping today’s trade for twins was JW&E Woof & Son, Ghyll Farm with a pen of Cheviot ewes with Beltex twins lambs realised £350 a family. Mules were also getting close with a strong run of four crop Mules ewes making £345 courtesy of AT Threlkeld, Satterthwaite. TW Gorst, Crook topped the single trade with a Texel cross ewe with a Texel lamb making £315 twice. Messrs Woof also has a strong trade with a Texel cross ewe with a Beltex lamb making £300.
Ewes with lambs are in demand as the new season is approaching, as having plenty of livestock to sell is paying off. Plenty more sheep with lambs are needed to match the demand. There is a tide entry for next week already, contact the office or auctioneers for entries or more information.

J36 Rural Auction Centre: Closing Sale of Store Hoggs, Thursday 13th March 2025.
Store Hoggs
Today marked the end of the Thursday store hogg sale for this season, with a show of 596 hoggs coming to an average of £95.60. As lambing time creeps upon us the urgency of starting a fresh increased today, with a large amount of long term hoggs making up the sale. Texel hoggs were still in hot demand with an average of £118, topping the trade today was a pen of four quality hoggs making £146 from GM Strong, Penrith. The same firm had another two more pens over the £140 mark. Strong and better sort hoggs were good to sell on the whole. Cheviot hoggs were making between £118 and £90, depending on size and condition averaging £102. Hill lambs, predominantly Swaledale, Herdwick and Rough Fells made up the bulk of the sale with an average of £84.

Store Cattle
Lancasters renowned weekly sale of store cattle saw a catalogue of 186 sell to an animated trade well ahead of vendors expectations. Hitting the top spot today would be regulator vendors TC Whiteside, Pilling with Aberdeen Angus steers to £2600 for a pair with another from this same good home at £2550, with his trailer load averaging £2583. Not far behind at £2520 was PM&ST Entwistle, Abbeystead for a single Limousin bullock. TR Prickett, Hutton Roof saw his four well farmed twenty two month old Limousin bullocks achieve £2500, with WA Hodgson, Whinfell at the same price for a twenty seven month old Charolais bullock. British Blue bullocks from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet saw his pen of four twenty two month old bullocks to £2420 with DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland at the same price also for a British Blue steer. Just a handful of dairy bred steers in today saw TH Wensley, Kirkham with a pair of Friesian sell at £1720.


Heifer store cattle saw no let up in trade with a trio of Charolais heifers at twenty two months old see a final bid of £2300 from local vendor DJ Townley, Stodday. A single Simmental heifer at twenty four months old from EW&A Bradshaw, Stalmine achieve £2150. T&E Garlick & Son, Freckleton saw their quality run of twenty four month old Angus cattle to £2150, with David Townley continuing his good days trading selling British Blue heifers to £2150.
A run of quality Hereford heifers from local supporters A&FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel to £2000, with plenty of other pens of heifers achieving the late nineteen hundreds.
