From the Director As far as I know, human beings are the only animals on the planet that put drapes on the windows. Did this practice come about strictly for aesthetic reasons, or was it necessary in order to keep people from seeing the embarrassing way we behave when we are alone? You may ponder that question as you watch the two couples in this play deal (or not deal) with an altercation which occurred between their two grade school aged sons. Technology has changed so rapidly in the past couple of decades (I had to update my computer three times just while writing this note), that the pace of it tends to make the sophistication of the human race seem almost limitless. But even before this wondrous age, while we were still sharpening rocks and drawing on the walls, I imagine the level of human sophistication still rose a little bit higher than the hamster and the Neanderthals the characters refer to in this production. In fact, almost as soon as we had enough food to eat and secure shelter, I would guess that human beings began formulating a list of rules and customs (along with making drapes) which altered, guided, and refined our interaction with one another. The question is, what were/are we underneath? What instincts and urges have we been putting a lid on since we began to walk upright? (Creationists will please excuse this reference.) And are there consequences to ignoring our baser instincts? Do layers and layers of facade eventually add up to nothing but more facade? Have we forgotten the reasons for the social customs in the first place? And if we didn’t have drapes, would we behave any better?

CAST & CREW BIOS DEANNA COLLINS (Annette Raleigh) DeAnna is delighted to be back on the Robinson stage in this production of GOD OF CARNAGE, but she was most recently seen as Doris in DAMN YANKEES. She feels so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such a talented cast, and she would like to thank them all for working so diligently. DeAnna would also like to thank the tech, stage management, design, costuming, and Jim for being a wonderful director. She would also like to dedicate her performances to one of her best friends, Devon, I hope you enjoy the show … sweetie! ERWIN JACOB (Alan Raleigh) GOD OF CARNAGE is my last show in my undergraduate career. I want to take this opportunity to thank my mother, grandparents, brothers and sisters for their support. Also thank you to IU Southeast and the Theatre Department, especially my fellow theatre majors who have been a great influence to me. JENNA LENORE RYAN (Veronica Novak) Jenna, junior Theatre major, is thrilled to be back on the Robinson stage in a play she has loved since her senior year of high school. You might have seen her at IU Southeast in roles such as Mollie Ralston in THE MOUSETRAP, Hope Cladwell in URINETOWN, or Miss Weston in DAMN YANKEES. She is also participating in the student production of INDIUCKY this spring. Jenna has also performed with other local theatre companies, such as The Emerging Artists Group, where she portrayed Mrs. Paroo in THE MUSIC MAN and Belle in DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. She was thrilled last fall to make it through the prescreening auditions for the Southeastern Theatre Conference, and cannot wait to travel to Mobile, Alabama in March for the professional auditions. Jenna would like to thank her parents and Jon for their neverending support of her performance, Briner for his wise thoughts in times of uncertainty, and her friends DeAnna, Marina, and Tim for being there for her throughout this process. Most of all, she would like to thank Mr. Hesselman and her fellow three actors for embarking with her on such a fun, stressful, frustrating, philosophical, learning experience. Thank you, and enjoy the show!
SEAN TURLEY (Michael Novak) Sean is absolutely thrilled to be a part of this production. Sean is a recent graduate of Silver Creek high school and is currently a freshman here at IU Southeast and is pursuing a degree in Communications-Theatre. He was last seen on the Robinson stage as Sohovik/Husband in DAMN YANKEES. Other previous favorite roles include William Barfee in THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, Horton in SEUSSICAL, Two-Bit in THE OUTSIDERS and Papa Ge in ONCE ON THIS ISLAND. Sean has also worked with local community theaters in the area such as Clarksville Little Theatre, Emerging Artists Group, and JCC Centerstage. He would like to give special thanks to God, his family and his friends for supporting him as he chases his dreams, and Jim for casting him. Enjoy the show! TIMOTHY STUCKY (Production Stage Manager) Tim is thrilled to be working on Yasmina Reza’s GOD OF CARNAGE with such a talented cast. Tim has been both behind the scenes and on stage in over 25 productions for multiple companies. He is a sophomore Theatre/Business double major at Indiana University Southeast. He serves as the President of IU Southeast’s chapter of Alpha Psi Omega. He appeared on the Robinson stage as Officer Barrel in URINETOWN and as Gravedigger in HAMLET. Having previously stage managed DAMN YANKEES, Tim serves as the Production Stage Manager at IU Southeast for the 2013-2014 season. He would like to thank God for the opportunities he has had thus far and would also like to thank his friends and family for their unwavering support. Special thanks to – Jim Hesselman, Rebekkah Meixner-Hanks, Herb Caldwell, and Natalie Bowman for the unique education they have bestowed. CODY KING (Assistant Stage Manager) This is Cody’s first stage management experience. Recently Cody performed in DAMN YANKEES here at IU Southeast as Joe Hardy.
