Week Three

Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age

Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)

According to the readings by Kolerevic, Subtractive, Additive and Formative are the three different fundamental types of fabrication technique. Subtractive fabrication technique is to allow objects to be subtracted in all three x, y and z axis. For instance, a large piece of wood could be cut into a scultural object by using the cnc cutter that allows milling to happen in the exterior. As in 3D printing, additice fabrication technique is to use materials running in the x-y axis to added up in layers to form a mass. Formative Fabrication is to use heat and steam applying on the surface to cut out the areas that will be used for different function. Differ drom CNC (Subtractive Fabricatiom), it is restricted by the fact that is could only cut out tow -dimentional objects. Parametric modeling and Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication helps architect to develop a systematic way to create iterations. It allows a faster way to create variation under a rule that is created.

Week Three

Surface Creation

The Surfaces were created by using different method. Point attractors and curve attractors help to centralize the focus fo the panels on the surface. Weaverbird effect helps to create openings, thicken, or even duplicate the shape (such as dipyramid). By using different pattern it creates diffeent visual effect and as well lead to creating different visual volume.

3

Week Four Panels & Waffle

One of the panel is a square surface and has a larger surface area Also, using the command dispatch distribute the panels into two types in which one with multiple openings and also one with only one opening. The other one is twisted outward and manipulated by attractor points.

The twisted surface has a curvy shape waffle support and the square one has a flatter but longer support. The shape transform from square to triangle from the bottom to top.

4

Week Four

Laser Cutting

Lazer cutting file that has been submitted to cut my model. Line works have to be carfully identified to avoid the machine accidentally cut off itch lines. Also iif keeping one cutting edge into the itch edge layer it helps a lot in terms of holding the cutting objects on the paper.

5

Week Five

BY trying out different shapes and using grasshopper effect, shapes can be mainipulated in different ways to create a more interesting effect for boolean. Grids and patterns both helps to develop the interior volume of the cone.

6

Week Five

Isometric

The spetial quality of the model is its interconnectivity and the larger openings based on the shape that was booleaned inside and outside the cubic structure. Pemeability was therefore created by having small and large openings. In addition, large upper layers cantilevered by a curvy edge does serve as an aesthetica purpose.

7

Week Six Task 01

Task 01 Matrix The reason for choosing this one as my final iteration is because the openings created in this iteration is what attracts me. The openings are large enough to allow sunlight but still remain its characteristic.

8

Week Six Task 02

Task 02 Matrix The cone iteration is the one I choose to develop. Using dispatch item, Weaverbird and Point Attractor help to create a mass with different density in different edge. cone and diamond carries sharp and smooth quality.
