WEEK 3 READING: LEGER, LE CORBUSIER, AND PURISM

Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words) According to the reading, Le Courbusier has defines pictorial space as a space that are observed from a distance which could not be entered through. This means that the object that were created in this flatness were a space that could not be reached.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words) The flatness, of Le Corbusier’s painting is base on two dominant techniques, the use of its flateness and the texture. He uses flatness as am extended representation of the objects which challenges the concept of distance. The texture was not added while drawing which then all objects were jointed together, The sense of fluencey of the drawing is fortified by the use of this technique. Also, his dawing in some way, denies the idealogy of cubism drawings.

Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words) Different from pictoral space where the space is abstract and objects are presented with flatness. Projection gives viewer a stronger sense of distance and space. There is a measurable space in the projection. Different vanishing point allow drawings to have different perspective and functions.

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words) The readings suggest that the origin of Axonometric projection is used as military purpose. The reason is because by using axonometric drawing, it allows military to project, or track the direction and distance of the artillery.
