CELEBRATING YOU At Wyoming Bride, we are proud to enter our fifth year of publishing the trusted source for wedding planning in Wyoming. Everything you need—from the moment you say “yes” to the moment you say “I do”—is right here at your fingertips. Join the community of brides-to-be on our website, blog, Facebook, and Pinterest boards, too. Our first piece of planning advice is to take your time going through these 80 pages of resources, checklists, inspiration, and ideas. Enjoy your engagement, and let us help you plan your dream day. When we started planning this issue of Wyoming Bride, we knew we wanted to make some changes. So, we set out to create an issue that would incorporate small, organizational changes, as well as some big changes—like our new Creative Director, John Edwards, who’s moved with his family all the way from London, England, bringing all his experience and expertise. With this issue, we extend special thanks to each of our loyal advertisers who bring our brides the best services and advice in Wyoming—thank you for all of your hard work and dedication! So we raise our glass to all of you—our brides and our vendors—and toast the years we’ve shared and the years we will share in the future. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of such a special time in your life.

CHOOSING YOUR WEDDING VENUE
From site to centerpieces, plan a wedding reception to remember with inspiration, organization, vision and imagination.
Creative planning, an organized agenda, and the teamwork of bride, groom, and several key vendors bring to life the most magnificent receptions. Set the stage for a successful celebration with a well thought-out “plan-of-action. Planning experts suggest a bride and groom put the wedding day in perspective by drafting a planof-action that includes: potential ceremony and reception sites, date and time options, estimated number of guests, style, theme and budget. As your vision and expectations develop, continue to perfect your plan-of-action. Selecting a wedding venue should be the first task you take action on. Select locations are often booked one to two years out, and prime dates (Saturdays, afternoons and evenings, May through October) go quickly. Knowing this, once you find your dream site, book it immediately. THE GUEST LIST The greatest factor to effect your budget will be the number of guests invited, and all should fit comfortably within the venue space. Keep in mind, sites have maximum capacities, so your guest count My Wyoming Bride.com 7
VENUE will help narrow down your site choices— or your site choice will help narrow down your guest list. PICK A SEASON AND THREE DATES The best suggestion is to start with a season of the year and then pick three dates that work for you, your fiancé, and close family and friends involved in the wedding. By having more than one date in mind, you will be more flexible when it comes to such considerations as venue availability and work schedules. THE RIGHT LOCATION The various forms of venues are endless, ranging from a hotel ballroom with stunning interior design and panache, to a vineyard transformed into a rustic chic setting, and everything in between. The wedding venue you select will no doubt help you decide what areas of the wedding planning you need to focus on next, and even help in the decision-making process about some details. Choosing a venue is a lot like hunting for a house. Having a list of your top desires will save you time. On-Site venues include private clubs, hotels, and restaurants. These locations provide the majority of services needed for a reception: tables, chairs, china, flatware, linens catering, beverages, and serving staff. Off-Site facilities encompass historic estates, wineries, private residences, galleries, event sites and community centers. These
locations offer the use of the facility for one flat fee, providing no other services. All-Inclusive venues offer packages to service the event from A-Z. With this type of venue, you can have your wedding and reception at one location, using the venue’s outdoor space for the ceremony and the ballroom for the reception. Theme Venues include your individual hobbies, interests, and passions into your celebration. Wineries, museums, train stations, and even breweries are all alternative options. Choose locations that tell your love story. If you meet in college, check for use of the facilities. Proposed on the beach; speak with state park representatives to book the site. By selecting a venue within your theme, you create a truly personalized celebration. CONDUCT A PHONE INTERVIEW There are a few initial criteria you can confirm over the phone before doing a site visit. Call to ask these basic questions: Is your preferred date available? Where do their prices per person start? Can they accommodate your guest list? If they fit these initial criteria, make an appointment to tour the reception site. INSPECT THE SITE PERSONALLY It may be love at first sight, but looks are not everything. Meet the staff you will be working with for your wedding and spend ample time touring the entire facility to

ensure that the site’s design, decor, and ambiance complement the style you have envisioned for your wedding. Bring your camera, and of course your copy of this wedding magazine as your guide. You can use the thorough checklist of questions in this section at your appointment. The site’s event coordinators are professionals who
realize that people only plan an event like this once in their lifetime; they won’t be offended with questions. If you are working with a wedding consultant, ask them to accompany you as well. For a formal event, choose a location conducive to a formal occasion. By showcasing the natural attributes of the location you have selected, you will more easily achieve harmony with your decor and the facility. Transforming a room is costly. Working with it will save time and money. MEAL CHOICES Find out if the venue offers an in-house catering service, and includes food you prefer, or if you are required to hire an outside catering company. You will likely have several menu options, and will be able to choose food that suits your needs. Keep in mind the time of day your meal

will be served, since you will want to choose appropriate dishes. If possible, request a taste-test of your preferred meal to ensure it’s quantity and quality. THE COST When discussing costs, especially regarding food and beverage, make sure you get the price inclusive of tax and gratuity. Rates vary significantly depending on the type of venue, the number of guests and the time of year. All details of your reception should be written in a contract signed by you and the venue representative. Most sites require a deposit, and will need the balance paid at least one week in advance. Remember to coordinate this date with your RSVP date to confirm your guest count. YOUR TIMELINE Have your location secured before hiring

your vendors. If you have your heart set on a particular venue, then start planning one to two years out. If you are flexible about your venue selection and are open to different options, you can plan a wedding in six months. Saturday night weddings and summer holiday weekends are always popular. If you are interested in these dates, book your venue immediately.

THE RECEPTION FLOW A common mistake couples make is failing to orchestrate their reception. Timing of the key moments of your reception should be communicated to all your vendors and guests. The critical factor is to keep the event “flowing” and your guests comfortable and happy. After the ceremony your photographer will finish taking photographs, and you will take a limo ride. During this time, serve your guests appetizers and drinks, and have your DJ or musicians play soft background music as everyone waits for your arrival. The Master of Ceremonies (MC) announces that dinner will be served soon and asks your guests to be seated. The MC (usually your DJ) introduces the bridal party as they enter the room. Be sure to plan the path between the banquet tables, so you can easily get to your table. The bride’s father makes a short speech, welcomes everyone and thanks everyone for coming. The officiate blesses the meal and the food service begins. Each table, in turn, will move through the buffet line, or will be served by wait staff. Having
chat topics placed at each table is a good way to get your guests to mingle, socialize, and chat while they wait to be served. The best man presents a toast to the newly married couple. Additional speeches and stories can be told during and after dinner. At the planned time, the MC will announce the cake cutting. You and your groom complete the ceremonial cutting of the cake, and the MC will announce the couple’s first dance. The couple’s first dance may be followed by several additional special dances, and then the floor is opened for everyone to dance. The final reception event is the bouquet toss by the bride and garter throw by the groom. Remarks by the bride and groom. Though not necessary some brides and grooms like to take time to thank their parents, guests, and anyone who helped make the day possible. Congratulations! You have just thrown the biggest, and best party of your life.

CATERING CAITI JACKSON PHOTOGRAPHY
CAITI JACKSON PHOTOGRAPHY
YOUR FIRST MEAL TOGETHER
Having your celebration catered is one way to assure a fabulous meal for your guests, and no one has to miss the fun. 20 My Wyoming Bride.com
Preparing the meal is just the beginning when it comes to catering a wedding. While taste will be your number one decision factor, following closely should be the quality of the meal presentation and service to your guests. Catering a meal requires a considerable amount of time for planning, preparation, serving, and clean up, not to mention, the cost of the food and equipment rentals. Keep in mind, if you are thinking about asking your relatives to help prepare and serve the meal, the time commitment you are asking for will interfere the most with your family’s participation in the reception. For this reason alone, you should strongly consider hiring a professional caterer to take care of the food preparation and service for your wedding reception. ON-SITE OPTION OR HIRE YOUR OWN The venue you select will have some impact on the caterer you choose, as some venues require
CATERING that you use their on-site catering service, or work within their list of preferred vendors. If this is the case, many of your decisions have already been made. You will just select from the options in the price range that works for you. These sites typically include all of the china, flatware, glassware, service, clean up, and gratuity in their catering price range. A professional caterer will provide amazing food, a beautiful presentation, and excellent service. Their food services will include preparing the food in their professional kitchens, packaging it for wedding service, transporting it to the site, preparing and decorating the food service table, and the staff to attend to the food service. Ask if they require you to provide the serveware, or if it is included. Before starting the process of identifying and interviewing potential caterers, you will
want to determine your particular meal needs and preferences. WHAT’S FOR DINNER? What are your favorite foods and what time of day will your meal be served? While most caterers can offer a variety of cuisine, there are those caterers that specialize in barbecue, ethnic cuisine, or vegetarian menus. Use the time of your reception to help narrow down your choices. If the meal will be served earlier in the day, a lighter meal is adequate, while a full meal is more common later in the day. CATERING SERVICE STYLES One basic catering question is the difference between the service style options. Here is a breakdown of four popular styles. Buffet Style. A buffet usually consists of long tables laden with both hot and cold

them on the table for the guests to share. This is perfect for a more casual style of entertaining and is easily coupled with the use of longer tables. There are pros and cons of each style. Your caterer will work with you to determine what is the best match for you.
menu items. Guests make their way down the line with a plate in hand and serve themselves. A benefit to the buffet or food station style of serving food is that it affords the newlyweds more opportunity to mingle and visit with their guests. Plated Service. Plated dinners are served individually to each table by wait staff. The meals are beautifully laid out on the plate and more formal than other options. You may ask guests to select their meal choice as part of their R.S.V.P. Station Service. These serve-yourselfstations and are usually grouped by theme or cuisine, and guests mingle throughout the room and sample the different dishes. You are able to serve a variety of different foods, and this keeps even the most finicky guest content. Family Style. Waiters bring platters of hot-from-the-oven foods and place
SPECIAL MEAL REQUESTS The caterer can help you plan for the variations in your guest list and then determine the correct amount of food to order so you do not run out—better to have left overs than to have some guests without food. Discuss any special dietary needs you and your guests have, for example vegetarian, gluten or sugar-free, or food allergies. To avoid disappointment, test the meal you decide upon before confirming it. INTERVIEW AND BOOK THE CATERER Start the interview process and book your caterer early. If you need suggestions, ask event professionals to refer a caterer who has experience with the quality, style, and organization you are looking for. Complete a contract with the caterer that includes, a listing of the foods selected, services to be provided, and the cost. Regardless of the meal you choose, a festive wedding reception is the goal of every couple. After all, looking out into the room, and seeing your family and friends who are celebrating with you, is a feast for your eyes.

CAKE
A SWEET ENDING
COMBINING YOUR FAVORITE FLAVORS Doing a taste test as part of your research allows you to confidently decide on what kind of wedding cake you desire. Once you have decided on the cake flavor, you can begin to think about frosting. As a general rule, there are three types of icing—the traditional butter cream versus cream cheese versus fondant. If you need suggestions for pairing cakes and frostings ask the baker to share their ideas. DECORATIVE ASPECTS Find images that demonstrate your ideas. If you want to use fresh flowers, you can use a few as a cake topper or dozens as a cascade. Your cake decorations can be as simple or as lavish as you want, but no matter if you choose traditional or ultramodern–make sure it’s the look that makes you happy! SELECTING THE SIZE AND SHAPE The number of wedding guests will define the cake size, as well as how many tiers it should have. Ask how many guests can

be served per tier, figuring on one slice per guest. Wedding cakes also include an additional anniversary tier. Adding sheet cakes is an economical option and allows you to serve several flavors. Classic round, tiered cakes work well at more formal weddings; square cakes suit sleek, contemporary affairs; and artsy topsy-turvy designs are perfect at fun, informal parties. CUPCAKES, CAKE POPS, AND MORE Cupcake towers and cake truffles are popular with couples who are looking for a non-traditional wedding dessert. The cake will not need to be sliced and served as your guests can help themselves. By categorizing the steps the process will be a manageable task and go smoothly. Surely you will have nothing short of an amazing wedding cake, delightful to the eyes and delectable to the taste buds.

WEDDING DAY FASHION One of the most exciting, fun, and sometimes overwhelming parts of your wedding planning experience is shopping for your wedding day apparel. With the right direction, you will find the perfect wedding gown with ease and confidence. Whatever your style, there is a dress out there waiting for you.
CAITI JACKSON PHOTOGRAPHY
WHEN TO START Begin the search for your gown, accessories, and jewelry up to nine months before the wedding day to give ample time to avoid rush-order fees. Some dress designers require six months to produce a gown; others may be longer or even quicker, so be sure to ask. Order early to allow sufficient time for your gown to be received, altered, and steamed.
Keep with classic looks or be fashion forward. With direction you will find your perfect wedding gown with ease and confidence.
DO YOUR RESEARCH When you think about the style of dress you have always envisioned going down the aisle in, how do you describe it? If you need help, become familiar with the terms for specialty fabrics and gown silhouettes to help you communicate the details of what you want. After all, they are there to help your dress dreams come true and they want to provide you with the best experience possible. SHOP LOCAL No matter if you know the look and love a particular designer, or seem to be starting from scratch, it’s best to shop local. The staff at local bridal salons can help get you started trying styles on right away. These local professionals know their inventory and are there to assist you in this important dress purchase. Utilize their expertise to ensure selection of a style that is right for you. Be sure to call ahead, as some bridal salons require appointments, and those that do not will be able to recommend
TIPS FOR TRYING ON GOWNS There are certain tips that can make the day go smoothly and potentially reduce the amount of time it may take to find the perfect dress. • Go without face makeup when trying on gowns so they remain clean. • Wear your hair similar to the style you have in mind for your wedding. • Wear a supportive, well-constructed strapless bra or corset. • Note that the size of the wedding gown you will wear is typically one to two sizes larger than your day-to-day clothes. The store associate will get proper measurements to be matched to designers’ size charts. • Limit the number of people with whom you shop to one or two friends or family members. An entourage can be confusing. • It’s always better to order a slightly larger gown and leave room for alterations if you are between sizes. USE ELEMENTS AS A GUIDE The details of your ceremony–time of year, level of formality, location, theme, and so on–will help guide you in choosing a gown for your ceremony. To improve your glow, schedule a series of facials, with your last one no later than two weeks before the big day. Begin to implement a daily skin care routine of three basic steps: cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize to care for your facial skin. You can then add any special needs products to help repair and rejuvenate your skin.

FITNESS AND BRIDAL BOOT CAMP You know the drill: a combination of a reasonable but restricted diet combined with both weight-bearing and fat-burning exercises will yield results. Whether you want to tone up and lose 20 pounds or even just ten, this will take some time, so start six months to one year prior to your wedding. If you are exercising and eating right but just not seeing the results you want, there are businesses that specialize in slimming, detoxifying, and toning options to give a boost to any weight loss program you use. HOW ABOUT A MAKEOVER If it’s been a while since you last updated your look, your upcoming wedding is a great reason for a makeover. A professional makeup artist can help you choose a foundation and colors that compliment your skin tone and give you a smooth, natural look. Apply makeup lighter for an everyday look and heavier for a more dramatic look for photographs. Keep in mind that your cheeks will be flushed all night, and with overdone blush you will look too red in person and in pictures. Inevitably a few tears will be shed, so use

waterproof mascara. Take a picture of your new look at the same time of day as your wedding, and remember flash photography is less forgiving than a mirror. Get your makeover done early so you can use your new look and easily recreate it on your wedding day. WEDDING DAY HAIRSTYLE When meeting with your stylist, bring a photo of the hairstyle you would like to have done, but remain flexible. Rely on their experience to help you discover what style flatters you most. Have your bridesmaids do the same, so your entire wedding party has a consistent, complimentary look. Wearing your hair in a traditional updo shows off the neckline and shoulders, and is always flattering. On the other hand, wear your hair down to show off your tresses. Schedule a trial run

DE-STRESS WITH A MASSAGE In the weeks leading up to the big day, consider a full service spa package including a facial, body polish, waxing, spa pedicure, and a manicure. You deserve to be pampered. A LITTLE COLOR A sun-kissed tan looks stunning against a white wedding gown. If your skin has the ability to tan, look for a salon that offers skin profiling to help determine the best tanning unit, tanning lotion to use, and how many minutes to tan in each session. You will want to build a base tan and remember, the number one rule is never, ever burn. process involves a professional spraying a solution onto the skin that develops a tanned appearance on the surface of the skin. The development of color takes anywhere from two to four hours and usually lasts five to seven days, but can vary. To ensure you are pleased with the results do a practice spray tan at least two weeks prior to your wedding day. For best results, in is recommended that you moisturize twice a day. MANICURED NAILS Your hands will be on stage for the entire day—signing the certificate, showing off your rings, shaking hands—you will want them looking pretty, polished and feminine.
HEALTH AND FITNESS TIPS Seek Advice It is always advisable to consult an expert about your weight loss. It will be easier for you to understand your body type, your fat type, your BMI and other factors; making the process of how to get in shape easier for you. Stick to a Program When you get the right kind of program for you, then stick to it and keep a check on the progress. Don’t take on too many changes at once—you want the results to last your lifetime.

Flowers take your event to the next level. They add bright pops of color, show off your personality, showcase your dress, and bring the theme together. Before you set up a meeting with the floral designer, have these important details pinned down to have a productive meeting. WEDDING SIZE AND BUDGET You will want to know how many bouquets and boutonnières are needed for the bridal party, plus how many table arrangements you will need for guest seating. Having these counts will help you determine the floral budget. If you have no idea how to come up with a budget for flowers, start out with 10% of the overall budget. You can always allocate more if you are using all flowers for your aisles and centerpieces. With that figure, your floral designer can guide you towards the flowers

FLOWERS and designs that will help you stay within or close to that amount. Keep in mind that most flowers can be ordered any time of year, but flowers and greenery that are in season will generally be less expensive. KNOW YOUR STYLE Prepare for the consultation by listing your color palette and other special touches like monograms, hobbies, and themes you want to incorporate into your flowers. The atmosphere of the ceremony venue may have a big impact on your floral design {rustic, modern, elegant, etc.} Check to see if your venue allows flower petals to be dropped, if candles are permitted, etc.
VISUAL AIDS Are there any specific flowers or a design you know you like and just have to have? Bring in photos of the styles you like to help communicate your ideas. Not that you want an exact replica, but you may love one for the shape of the bouquet, another for the type of flowers or the elements used, and yet another one for the color scheme that was used. FLOWER TYPES Flowers are seasonal, so keep in mind what you want may not necessarily be available or cost effective during the time of year your wedding will be. Lastly, it’s a good idea to note any flower allergies
BOUQUET TERMS TO KNOW: Nosegay: This is a hand-held bouquet of fragrant flowers and foliage designed as a small bouquet. Hand-Tied: A larger bouquet of assorted flowers in a loosely gathered design. The stems can be wrapped, embellished or left natural. Pageant/Arm/Presentation: Long-stemmed flowers the bride carries cradled in her arm. Posy or Tussie-Mussie: Similar to nosegay, but smaller and more compact. Perfect for bridesmaids, and a great alternative to the mother’s corsage.
Pomander: A bloom-covered ball that is usually four to six inches in diameter and suspended from a ribbon. Toss Bouquet: Solely made for the bouquet toss. Hint: have one that breaks apart into three when thrown (Break-away or Fortune Toss), a nice surprise for the single ladies as tradition says the woman who catches the bouquet will be the next to marry. Remembrance: Done in memory of a lost loved one or family member who may not be able to attend the wedding.

FLOWERS you or your groom might have and share them with the floral designer to avoid any untimely sneezes. DESCRIPTIVE WORDS Along with the photos, decide a few descriptive words to help express the style you have in mind. Try to use meaningful words like formal, vintage, country, rustic, casual, fun, glitz and glam, etc., while avoiding basic words like elegant or simple, unless that is really what you mean. Think about how you would describe your dress, venues, wedding theme, etc. when you come up with your descriptive words. OTHER BOUQUET CONSIDERATIONS Complement your dress, personality and proportions when choosing your bridal bouquet. Here are some basic considerations to factor in before making your final choice: Color Match. All-white bouquets are the most traditional choice for brides, while the use of color in a bridal bouquet is a beautiful way to express individual personality. Consider using accent flowers in your wedding colors or something bright and fun. Gown Style. Consider the scale of your gown. A common rule is, the bigger the gown, the bigger the bouquet. A simple sheath gown wouldn’t be able to hold its own against an overflowing cascade bouquet, however, a ball gown would.
Consider any embellishments on the front of the dress and don’t obscure the beautiful beading or lace with a large bouquet. When you meet with your floral designer, bring a photo of your dress, and they will offer suggestions for the style and shape of bridal bouquet that is right for your look. THE CONSULTATION Thoroughly discuss your ideas, share your photos and descriptive words, and then give creative control and trust to your florist. A good florist thrives on having the blessing of doing what is best for the look of the arrangement. Keep in mind they are working with a natural product and often enough, floral products come in different colors, sizes and shapes than planned. Be as flexible as possible and believe they have the best intentions at heart. At the end of the consultation or shortly thereafter you should receive a quote of costs. This is not set in stone and nothing is ordered until you contract with them, so if you want to expand and make something greater let your florist know. Although your flowers will not need to be ordered until a few months before your wedding date, six months is not too soon to choose your floral vendor and get on their schedule, no matter the size or complexity of your floral designs.

Your wedding is full of the little things—the dates, the deadlines, the details. Being organized can be a big task, but while you plan your wedding, you will be meeting with professionals who can help you realize your dream. From the theme and design to the venues and vows, the little details are what make your wedding sparkle and shine. Visit with your vendors to make your day the best it can be.
The details matter in wedding planning. Create your perfect celebration by being organized and utilizing the help of the pros.
NAME YOUR STYLE AND THEME A theme is usually a certain style such as “vintage glam,” “rustic chic,” or “modern simplistic”—the words that sum up the overall look and feel of the day. It is important to choose your colors, style, and theme before you get started as it extends to every element of the wedding—the room decor, the centerpieces, the stationery, the flowers, the food, the cake, the entertainment and even the dress. Be consistent in your choices to help you avoid a muddled look. YOU IMAGINE IT…THEY CREATE IT Amazingly decorated weddings require creative talent, many hours, and an extensive inventory of items. HIRE A COORDINATOR You may pride yourself in being organized and creative, but when it’s time to walk down the aisle, all you will really want is to feel the love—not the stress. If your life is already busy, avoid the pressure and hire a planner, you will gain valuable access to their knowledge and experience, as well as their vast contacts and connections. An experienced planner will work within your budget, recommend reputable vendors, negotiate contracts, book vendors, and the list goes on. Many planners offer different levels of service for you to choose from, ranging from full service, start-to-finish management, to basic, month-of, or day-of coordinating. Hiring a professional wedding consultant often makes the difference between truly enjoying the celebration and having it blow by in a blur of details.

the decorating process—the time researching and creating the vision, gathering the items, setting them up and then tearing them down, not to mention the cost of all of the items— and then the hassle of getting rid of them afterwards. Decorating professionals will help you avoid the frustration of producing your dream wedding on your own. Don’t choose a wedding decorator on price alone— consult with them to understand all that is included in their service. Ask to see samples of their past work and what they can custom create for you.

ALTERNATIVES TO TOSSING RICE The classical rainfall of rice is a fun and happy way to wish the couple many happy years to come. However, the following are a couple ideas for those wanting to make their wedding unique: Rose petals are a great alternative to rice. When thrown into the air, the colorful petals will gently shower the newlyweds. Sparklers are an affordable alternative that will light up the night. They photograph well and add a bright pop to your exit. Balloons filled with helium go straight up in the sky for a whimsical effect. They can be personalized with the names of the newlyweds for a personal touch.

MUSICIAN FOR HIRE Live music at a wedding celebration is a great touch that can really personalize your ceremony and reception. Musical styles vary, so choose a performer that will best suit your occasion. Brass instruments, string performers and guitars are classical choices and bring a more traditional sound to the ceremony. Vocalists and small singing groups are another great option for the musical sound of your wedding. Most musicians bring what they need to perform with them. They will simply need a place to sit at your venue, but it doesn’t hurt to ask if they have any other needs. Set them in a location that works best for you and them, but consider the sound of the performance in the location you choose. If they are playing your prelude and entrance music, asking them to attend the rehearsal is a good way to practice timing for both of you. Be sure to ask your musician for advice when choosing your music. Clarify what you want played at what time, and make sure they can cover the variety of musical genres you require. Find out the payments they require and how long they will play. ENTERTAIN THE KIDS Because a wedding is typically a “grown up” affair, and there is usually time spend by your guests waiting for you to arrive, you will need to get creative to keep your young guests entertained at the reception. If your

guest list consists of a lot of children, create a party within a party just for the kids. At an outdoor location you can set up yard games such as beanbag toss and yard golf, it’s so much fun the adults just might join in. Offer kid-style favors such as an activity booklet with word search, tic-tac-toe and coloring pages to keep them occupied at the dinner table. Add a few experienced babysitters in the room next door and parents and kids alike will rave about how much fun the reception was. LIGHTING THE NIGHT Your ceremony or reception site may need a little (or a lot of) help to give it the look that will take your guest’s breath away. Lighting will enhance the beauty of your event design and transform your space into a unique and flattering environment. Ask your wedding consultant, venue, or DJ if they offer this service.

These subtle changes can smooth the transitions between cocktail hours, dinner, and dancing. Visit the site at the time of your event. Pay attention to where you can add some much needed light to improve the space. See if your venue has dimmers and if the lighting can be adjusted to the right brightness. Make sure your venue has enough power to handle extra lighting. Blow a fuse, and it is lights out! Schedule a time to visit the venue to
work out the technical details. Items such as windows and where the house lighting is located will be big factors in how your room will be lit. Adding lighting to your event will take it from ordinary to extraordinary. GET IT IN WRITING Once you have decided to work with a particular wedding vendor, sign a detailed, written contract. Read over the contract (several times if necessary) so you are aware of your responsibilities and your vendor’s duties for your wedding day. Reconfirm your arrangements several weeks before your wedding, especially for services that were discussed many months before the actual date. Paying careful attention to the details early will allow you to enjoy every moment of your day. TIP: See our website for more inspiration.

It is very important to learn the essential elements of dance before you move into the fancy footwork. A good instructor will demonstrate to you how to lead or follow, as well as teaching you the steps. Private lessons are a great idea when you are starting out. This allows your instructor to focus on the two of you and give you personalized instruction and correction. If you already have a “First Song picked out, make sure to bring it along to give to your instructor. This will allow him or her to teach you some choreography to go along with it.

BEHIND THE CURTAIN When you’re planning your wedding, try adding a unique flair by having a photo booth at the reception. Photo booths add an instant entertainment option for your guests and wedding party—both young and old. As soon as the curtain closes, the personalities of those on the inside come to life. This provides unique entertainment and a fun keepsake that both you and your guests can laugh at and enjoy for years to come. Guests typically get to keep a copy of the photo strip they created. Some couples choose to use this memento as a unique wedding favor for their guests to provide lasting memories for everyone. Create a unique guest book and arrange the photo into a scrapbook. Alongside your guests’ photo, they get to write a personal note to the couple, creating a great keepsake for you and something fun for them. Having props available will add to the fun and excitement of your guests’ photo booth experience. Wigs, hats, glasses, outrageous jewelry, and even fake mustaches are just a few ideas of props to have available for your guests use. Another idea couples use is to have chalkboards or whiteboards available for their guests to add messages to their photos. If you are ready to step outside the box,
or rather into one, then this is a great idea for your wedding reception entertainment. A photo booth is an amazingly fun way to ensure your guests, young and old, will walk away from your event with a smile on their face and a memory of the night.
WHAT TO ASK WHEN RESERVING A PHOTO BOOTH:
Is the booth big enough for multiple people? Can you set up outdoors? How long does set up take? How many hours are included in the fee? Do you provide an attendant? What props and costumes are provided? Can I provide my own props? Do you provide a DVD of the images? What is the payment schedule?

Most people associate weddings with champagne; its sparkling bubbles are the customary choice for toasts. But wines—both reds and whites—should be taken into consideration when creating the perfect meal. Look for at least one red wine and one white to serve at your celebration. Conventional wisdom says that whites go best with chicken and fish, and reds with meats. Most venues offer bar service with a variety of spirits and beer options. Providing beer on tap for your guests is an acceptable alternative to an open bar. This can be a perfect compromise for both your guests and your wallet.
There are tasty ways to add nonalcoholic drinks to your special day, too. Java lovers who want a fun and unique way to celebrate can set up a coffee bar with flavors and toppings. For another unique idea, add a smoothie bar for guests to create their own beverage. Order personalized cups to double as wedding favors.

THE SOUNDTRACK OF THE EVENING
You’re married and now it’s time to celebrate. Set up the evening with music and lights for an evening to remember. 48 My Wyoming Bride.com
You spend months making sure every little detail of your wedding goes exactly the way you dreamed it would. You stress, and plan, and now it’s time for a little fun. You want your guests to dance and have fun. You want your introductions, your first dance, and all of your special moments to be unforgettable. You want your entire day to be uniquely yours, and not a generic production. Music sets the tone from the wedding ceremony to the last dance. It heightens emotions, creates atmosphere, fills awkward silences, and gets guests to dance. Work with your DJ to ensure your celebration is memorable with these tips: PLAYLIST VARIETY After all of the formality of the ceremony, you and your guests are ready to relax and get the party started! Consider playing a variety of music that is appropriate for the various
ENTERTAIN segments of your reception. Be sure to discuss the volume level and genre of music that you want played during each of the time periods. Ask your DJ or band for their play list to select songs you would like played at the reception. This is a great way for you to select specific dance music, rather than expecting them to guess your preferred genre of music. ON THE MIC You want a DJ for your reception who has the ability to go with the flow. If you picked a first song months ago, but on the way to the wedding you heard a more perfect song on the radio, can they change your first dance with this little notice? Most DJs have a ton of popular music in their book of albums and can accommodate your change. If your DJ acts as master of ceremony, discuss their level of involvement, and work
closely with them in planning, to keep your reception on schedule. DETAILS Professional DJs and musicians are exactly that...professionals. They are knowledgeable, creative and will have professional-level equipment, with a back-up system available to avoid the chance that your reception would be without music. SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW Have a phone interview with them first to determine if they are available on your wedding date. Ask about their experience level, their equipment quality, and if they have a back up system. Determine the variety and versatility of their song list, the cost of their services, amount of the deposit, and the due date for the final payment, then book them.

MOMENTS ON SCREEN Still photography can’t always capture the fluid movement of the bride making her way down the aisle or the trembling of the groom’s hands as he sees her for the first time, the way her parent’s hug her before she steps up to the alter, the emotion he shows as he sings to his bride, the funny way she spills her sand over the edge of the vase. Videographers are professional storytellers, so you will want to make sure that they will capture every part of your story that you want to be told. You and your fiancé might want to consider having your videographer create a short clip of how you met and fell in love to show at your

You’ll have great food and drinks, a wonderful venue, and lots of other wedding memories, but if you don’t budget video into the mix, in the future, you will miss having it. You will miss hearing your voices and seeing the emotion on your faces from your wedding day. You will miss the sway of your first dance as Mr. and Mrs. Hiring a professional will ensure that your wedding video will be worth sharing time and time again.

COVER BRIDE
WHITNEY THOMPSON DYLAN WINCE AUGUST 23
PHOTOGRAPHY: Caiti Jackson Photography Romantic, rustic, yet with sophisticated style, and breathtaking are words Whitney uses to describe their outdoor, summer wedding carrying the theme of romance and glam. The colors ivory and dusty rose with pearl accents were used throughout the details of their day, and she wanted her dress to be romantic and glamorous, just like the rest of their wedding. Whitney said that she tried on a ton of dresses before she found “the one.” This beautiful bride says, “I found my dress, and once I put it on I never wanted to take it off !”

BUDGET DEVELOPMENT
Developing a realistic wedding budget is essential and should be one of the first things you do. Keep your budget in mind so you will be able to make the right decisions when making choices. Here are a few questions you may want to discuss before developing your final budget.
Overall Budget
How much do you want to spend? Are the necessary funds available? Size of wedding party? How many guests will be invited?
Ceremony and Reception
Where will you hold it? Indoors or outdoors? Church or venue? Reception formal or casual? Ballroom or hall?
Attire
Do you want a designer gown or off-the-rack? Will you purchase or rent formalwear?
Photography
What style do you prefer, posed or photojournalistic? Do you want a leather-bound photo book or something less expensive? What style of videography do you want? How many copies of the video will be needed?
Wedding Cake
Do you want a custom designed cake or something smaller with sheet cake service?
Food / Catering
Do you want a caterer separate from your venue? Sit-down service or buffet? Will appetizers be served during cocktail hour? Will there be alcohol? Full bar or limited to beer, champagne and wine?
Entertainment
Will you have an orchestra or organist at the ceremony? Band, DJ or both? What other sort of entertainment will be needed? Invitations Letterpress or printed? Custom designed or just customized? Will you be sending save the dates? What inserts will be required with the invitations?
Transportation
How will you travel from the ceremony to the reception? Will you provide rented transportation for the entire wedding party? Does your venue require valet parking or shuttle service? Once you decide on your priorities, it will guide you in setting your budget. Once your budget is set, stick to it by using our handy budget worksheets (starting on the adjacent page) to keep you on task.
