Charitable Catalogue & Datebook
Letter from the Director
Greetings! We at CARES are so excited to be able to provide you with the most comprehensive listing of nonprofit events and activities going on in the Springfield Metro area! This is the first time this concept has been attempted here, and we believe that it is something that will be of use to you. Whether you are a nonprofit organization, one of our subscribers, a supporter, or simply interested in doing something fun, we hope you find what you are looking for here! Over the past four years, I have had the privilege of working for two of our members in development and as an Executive Director, so I truly understand how daunting a task it is to schedule and plan events! It is with this understanding that we here at CARES applaud each and every one of our nonprofit members for the great work they do with these outstanding opportunities to get involved and support their causes. In this Datebook, you will find events in each month that cater to a variety of interest areas; whether that be a love of pets, the recognition of those who are making a difference in our community, getting involved in an organization, or some other excellent cause. Take a look at each event’s icons to see a brief overview of these areas as well as how appropriate they are are for a family outing, a night with the girls, or a way to volunteer! Most of all, we hope that you utilize the listings to call, email, or visit our members to find out even more about their events and what they do every day to make our community a better place. Thank you for allowing our nonprofits the chance to share these events with you. We look forward to providing this resource in the future and cannot wait to attend these events throughout 2014! Please let us know your thoughts on the Datebook, ways you believe we can improve next year, and any questions you may have. We would also love to make sure that you and your organization are a part of this publication in 2015! Kind regards and best wishes for a great year!

Evening in Italy th An Springfield Symphony Orchestra
Celebrate your date night at our romantic Valentine’s concert inspired by the art and beauty of Italy. We start with the suite from Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, a charming ballet based on characters from Italy’s Comedia dell’arte. Full of romantic intrigue and foibles, it ends happily in the marriage of the lovers. We then play Italian Baroque master Scarlatti’s first Concerto Grosso, and conclude with Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony, an exuberant, sunny tribute to the beauty of the Italian landscape.
