CISD is “Home to the Bobcats,” which carries much tradition and pride throughout the community. Our district has a long-standing reputation of providing an educational model of innovation and excellence in an atmosphere where students are challenged to create and connect as they make their mark on this world. With a reputation built upon not only academic excellence, but a wealth of state championships spread across our extracurricular programs, our students have many opportunities to develop conscientious leadership skills through effort, resilience, and persistence, which build a strong foundation for future success in all endeavors. In Celina ISD, everyone is a Bobcat--we all wear the orange and white. Strong schools and strong communities are often mutually inclusive, and it is with a nod to our great partnership with the city that we celebrate our community-wide connections that are so important to the success of our kids. True connection is about genuine human interaction and a commitment to mutual understanding, empathetic relationships, and protecting our common interests. In short, true connection is about taking care of one another. We are committing to nurturing all students to be honest, self-disciplined leaders who are connected in activities that promote teamwork, responsibility, respect, and physical and mental fitness. Our staff is passionate about learning and providing engaging content that empowers students to connect personal interests to current learning. We champion all Bobcats to be curious, imaginative, and resourceful as they seek out multiple pathways of learning. HISTORY OF CELINA ISD In 1896, the Alla School was founded by Dr. and Mrs. Moses Hubbard. The Hubbard family moved from Missouri to Texas with their daughter Alla. Dr. Hubbard purchased over 200 acres east of present day Celina, where he served as a medical doctor. After an unfortunate illness, Alla passed away in 1889. Dr. and Mrs. Hubbard wanted to honor Alla’s legacy by changing the way children were educated in rural areas. At that time, children spent less than four months in school and only those who could afford tuition could attend. In 1896, they opened a two-story building named the Alla School to 108 students. In 1906, Dr. Hubbard passed away, leaving over 1000 acres of land with the understanding that the money made from the leasing of the land would be used to continue the school and promote education. Also, in that year, the community of Celina opened a two-story domed school building where the Celina Administration Building is currently. In 1923, the Alla community built a larger two-story building on “Alla Hill” where Celina High School now resides. In 1958, the Alla School District consolidated with Celina Independent School District. The bell that originally rang from the Alla Bell Tower is located in the memorial circle at present day Celina High School. 2020 marked the 100-year anniversary of the Celina Bobcat name. Stepping forward into the next centennial of Bobcat lore, new opportunities and new beginnings allow us to continue “Paving The Way For Our Future,” while honoring and enhancing the traditions and genuine relationships that make Celina ISD great. DISTRICT FOOTPRINT As of January 2022, The Celina School District has an enrollment of just over 3,400 students, with a district footprint that currently consists of 1 high school, 1 junior high, 2 elementary schools, 1 early childhood/ 2022 Celina Relocation Guide
primary campus, and 1 alternative program campus. These campus configurations will continue to evolve as more families move to Celina. CISD broke ground on a brand-new 6-8 grade middle school last January that is scheduled to open in the fall of 2022. The district began construction on its third elementary campus in January of 2022, which will be adjacent to the new middle school campus with completion scheduled for the fall of 2023. With the district’s demographers projecting as many as 4,000 students over the next five years, the district anticipates opening additional elementary schools each year for the foreseeable future. The district demographic report notes that CISD will likely approach over 12,000 students during the 2030-2031 school year. The district encompasses 96 square miles, serving residents of Collin and Denton counties, as well as the communities of Alla and Weston. Ranked #1 in The Dallas Business Journal as the fastest growing city in the North Texas area, the district launched a successful bond election in 2019. Voters approved a bond package totaling six hundred million to be used for new elementary and middle school campuses, district-wide improvements, and land purchases that will prepare the district for the challenges that will come with growth. We are excited about the growth that is coming, and we actively continue to shape our culture to enhance the truly unique facets of our community as we welcome new Bobcats to our community. Celina ISD and the City of Celina have a long history of addressing any challenge by seeing not the problem before us, but seeing instead the opportunity. What has always been a strength for our city and our district is the greatest calling in our district/city partnership: true connection is about taking care of one another. STEWARDSHIP Part of Celina ISD’s commitment to our community is represented by being financially prudent as we face the many challenges of our growing district. The Celina ISD Board of Trustees has reduced the district tax rate each of the last three years and approved a 2021-2022 district tax rate of $1.4409, which is the lowest school district tax rate in over 20 years. School funding will continue to be a great challenge to all districts in Texas in the coming years, but the challenge is even greater for smaller school districts, particularly fast-growth districts like Celina ISD. Our district is charged by the state to continue reducing taxes on the local level while also managing our ever-growing population. CELINA ISD BOUNDARY INFORMATION The cities of Celina and Prosper and their school districts share boundary lines that overlap in various parts of our cities. The district boundary lines were drawn years ago when the area was more rural and were not required to follow city boundary lines. When touring subdivisions in the area, we recommend that you check with the builders as to what district will service the families that move into their subdivision. You can also contact Celina ISD Administration to verify addresses within our boundaries. Will boundary lines change as new campuses are constructed? The district works with our demographer, Templeton Demographics, to reassess school boundary lines as new campuses are constructed. We are considered a fast-growth district, and with the multitude of new housing developments under construction, rezoning will be a constant opportunity for years to come. However, we are committed to working with the community to minimize the disruption of shifting zones during a child’s educational transition. COLLIN COLLEGE - CELINA CAMPUS In August 2021, Collin College opened its newest campus in Celina on a 75-acre property of land overlooking the city of Celina at 2505 Kinship Parkway. Founded in 1985, Collin College has grown into a robust higher education institution with more than 56,000 credit and continuing education students. With the opening of the Celina Campus, the district has 12 sites across Collin County: seven physical campuses, the virtual iCollin campus, and four centers. Collin College offers more than 100 degrees and certificates including Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Cybersecurity degrees. The college has been approved to offer up to five baccalaureate degrees. Collin College also offers affordable tuition and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Collin College students transfer to top universities including The University of Texas at Dallas, the University of North Texas, Texas A&M University, Texas Woman’s University, and The University of Texas at Austin. Collin College has 16 partner independent school districts, including Celina ISD, offering dual credit classes to more than 9,000 students.

“The Celina Campus allows more students to pursue a college education in a community that they love,” Collin College District President Dr. Neil Matkin said. “Collin College has long had a commitment to make affordable, innovative, and effective education available to every resident of Collin County.” The Celina Campus can serve approximately 2,500 students and is 96,000 square feet. Facilities include classrooms, computer and science labs, a career center, a Veterans Resource Lounge, and student enrollment services. Students also can check out books and study at the Brenda Willard Goodell Library and receive free tutoring at the Anthony Peterson Center for Academic Assistance. Students and community members can expect a hands-on, in-person experience from the Celina Campus team which includes a one-stop shop for admission, registration, and financial aid assistance. “The first semester at the Celina Campus was hectic, exciting, and rewarding,” said Brenda Carter, Celina Campus executive dean. “The students, the community, faculty, and staff were excited to see the campus open and operational. It’s been heartwarming to see students and faculty take pride in being some of the first to attend and teach at the Celina Campus.” More than 400 guests attended a ribbon cutting and open house event, which included a dedication of the Brenda Willard Goodell Library in September. “As an educator, I can’t think of anything more exciting than having a college campus in our own city,” said Lori Sitzes, Celina ISD assistant superintendent at the campus’ ribbon cutting. “I remember when I first started working at Celina ISD, seeing the Collin College sign on Preston Road, and asking my new colleagues about the plans for the future campus. To see it all come together is an honor.” Carter said the community has welcomed the Celina Campus with open arms, and it has been and will continue to be a great working relationship between the college and the community. 2022 Celina Relocation Guide
There has been an increase is community usage of the Celina Campus. The campus helped sponsor several families for the recent holiday and serves as a poll location for voting. Community members come to learn more about the classes held there every day and can take advantage of the campus’ career center to receive personalized career advising and information about job fairs. Faculty members are getting involved as well. History professor Brett Adams is working with the Celina Historical Museum to document and preserve the city’s history. The Celina Campus offers additional course offerings for credit and continuing education classes, and the campus is looking to expand its workforce programs. Classes offered each semester include business management, construction management, health sciences, information technology, and general education. Each campus has a signature event, and the Celina Campus is currently exploring options for a signature event that takes into consideration the student body and the community of Celina. The campus will also host a range of camps during the summer such as the popular Crime Scene Investigation camp. Camps are designed for students in middle school and high school.
