In the November issue of The Tiger Times by Gunter Independent School District, they reported the Niche ratings where our cafeterias earned an A+ Rating. When the news got out, our Parent/Teacher Organizations got to work creating some wonderful baskets to present to our cafeteria staff. We appreciate their thoughtfulness in presenting these baskets to our hard working ladies in each of the cafeterias!

109 Years...still going strong

Center photo, taken sometime between 1912 - 1915 by Mr. Carruth, was most likely taken between the first and second floor stair window from the 3-story school building built in 1912. He was known to shoot many elevated photos from the tops of then constructed buildings. The photo is taken looking southwest toward town and Old Lake. Also, Main Street ran just south of the dirt court. Present Pecan Street runs through the middle of the court. The old school building would have straddled present Seventh Street if it had not stoped at Pecan and Oak. City

Connection 2021 promises to be an exciting year for the city of Gunter. Gunter is a city on the rise…. Over the next three to five years, Gutner will grow more than it has in its previous 119 years combined…… While there are many challenges facing the city as it prepares for the growth that is imminent, there are many opportunities, and the city council is taking steps to ensure that the city is prepared. This year a major emphasis is being placed on improving streets and planning a Downtown Gunter revitalization. For the next three to five years, there are four major strategic focus areas that the city is focusing on: In this brief article, I will focus on the Gunter Downtown Master Plan. In subsequent articles, I will write about the other strategic focus areas. A unique opportunity awaits our community to master plan Downtown Gunter, a once in a lifetime opportunity. With your participation, Gunter will plan revitalization of its downtown and by working together, we can dream of what we want it to become and we will make it so. A master plan will ensure that Downtown Gunter resumes its rightful place in the history It will once again become the heart, soul, and cultural center of Gunter. It will have a sense of place and a sense of community while maintaining its cultural history. It will have shops, restaurants, and parks. It will be a place where people can live and have walkable streets and trails. It will become a local and regional destination and have a city center where family, friends and visitors can gather for special events, enjoying restaurants, live music, and everything else that Downtown Gunter will offer. The master planning process will last between six and nine months. We want you, our citizens, help develop the master plan for our Downtown and together we will plan Downtown Gunter. In late January, the city will begin surveying our citizens on what we want our Downtown to become. There will also be a Downtown Gunter website developed which will go live no later than February 1st . This website will provide extensive information about the master planning process. Please check the city of Gunter website at www.guntertx.gov around February 1st for the Downtown Gunter website link. I want to thank the Gunter Economic Development Corporation and the Gunter City Council for unanimously funding and supporting this project. The city has contracted with Kimely-Horn, a premier planning and design firm, who will assist with this project. The project manager, Abra Nusser, is an experienced AICP planner and project manager and will lead our goal of making Gunter a premier north Texas destination. I look forward to getting to know you and working with you as we plan the future of Downtown Gunter together. Rick Chaffin City Manager
