SCHOOL ZONE

From The Desk of Dr. Tom Maglisceau Dear Bobcats, The great philosopher, Ferris Bueller, once said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t slow down once in a while, you might miss it.” Perhaps I feel Father Time creeping up behind me, but the older I get, the more things seem to speed up. At the start of school each year I look at the calendar and think about how far off the winter break feels, knowing full well that by the time we actually get to winter break, it will seem like a mere blink since summer. Well, here we are. As we prepare to close out the year--and who isn’t glad to see 2020 in the rearview mirror--I want to pause and celebrate some great kids doing some great things in Bobcat Nation: Celina ISD proudly hosted the Region 2 and Region 25 marching band competition for over 35 schools just before the Thanksgiving holiday, and we’re celebrating the Bobcat Band as they move on to the Area Championship competition on December 8 at Princeton High School. Our volleyball and football teams are enjoying deep runs into the playoffs as well, and our boys and girls cross country teams both had a strong season. Special congratulations to the girls cross country team for placing second in state! If you haven’t heard, our own Adele Clarke also placed first in state for all 4A schools, and she has been invited to compete nationally. And most recently, CHS junior, Olivia Snyder, was named State Officer for the Texas Chapter of the International Thespian Society. Each fall our teachers nominate fantastic students for our Superintendent Award for students from Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 11th, & 12th grades. We were proud to celebrate these terrific Bobcats at the November CISD Board meeting: Celina Primary: Kindergarten - Ava Long & Ryan Delgado; Lykins ES: 2nd - Molly Steffenauer & Major Jones; 4th - Chloe Scott & Luke English; O’Dell ES: 2nd - Ava Akumah & Clayton Burgess; 4th - Addilynn Huston & Anderson Aune; 6th Grade Center: Sarah Brinkerhoff & Wyatt Keepers; Celina Junior High: 8th - Addilyn McNutt & Ty Hughes; CHS: 11th - Ashlyn Vana & Jacob Woodrum; 12th - Mekdes Woldesunbet & Elijah Bentley. As we begin enjoying the magic of this holiday season, we thank the following students who were finalists for Celina ISD’s holiday card: Sophia Gardner/Lykins Elementary, Amelia Johannessen/O’Dell Elementary, and Lillian Hawkins/Lykins Elementary. The winner of the CISD holiday card is Sophia Gardner, pictured at the bottom of this page with her drawing. Thank you also to our amazing community for helping so many of our CISD families facing difficult times throughout this past year. The generosity of our city is evident in so many great ways all year long. Of course, the holidays are just another opportunity to see our city shine, and we thank Grace Bridge, many of our churches, and the Celina Police Department Blue Santas for their gift of giving that helps so many of our Bobcat families. Looking ahead to 2021, be sure to take time this holiday to allow yourself to slow down, take time for yourself, and reflect upon the strength that surrounds you. Life will keep moving fast. Promise yourself you won’t miss it. Sincerely, Tom Maglisceau Superintendent, Celina ISD
