Letter From The Publishers After the last couple of months, we really weren't sure where we fit in, to be honest. We knew the community relied upon us for news, sports, information and uplifting stories, but we were really faced with some difficult and strange situations. But ultimately, we strapped on our boots and jumped in to support the businesses of this community online and in person as we could. We had an idea of doing the Front Porch Photos and that was a completely unforgettable experience. I ended up shooting over 950 family photos in the span of 3 1/2 weeks. I had messages from probably fifty people who told me it was the "highlight of their quarantine". We want this community to know that WE SUPPORT YOU. We show up. When we use the #shoplocal or #eatlocal, we mean it. We want you to recognize us when we come to your places of business. We want you to know us when we show up at community events. We are a part of this community - with you. This is OURCELINA! And in this crazy last few weeks, it has been more apparent than ever that this community is great. This community is strong. And this community is full of incredible people. We are so proud to be able to tell their stories and share in the beauty day after day.

After almost 20 years with Edward Jones, my journey has finally landed me in Celina, and I could not be more excited! My wife, Heidi, and I have grown to love this community as we have attended our children's school and sporting events, and now I serve as one of the Captains for the Celina Quarterback Club. The deep history and traditions of this town inspire me, and I want to work with individuals and businesses that are keeping the traditions alive and well here. On the corner of Louisiana and Walnut you will find my new office. Throughout the very careful and detailed construction process we were able to preserve parts of the building’s fascinating history. The building was a bank over 100 years ago, and original ceiling tiles now frame my conference room ceiling. after this building was a bank, it became the Celina Bottling Company. The very bottles that were produced in this office can be seen at the Celina area heritage museum. You deserve the same care and consideration for your family’s history and traditions that have been preserved in my office building. In getting to know you personally, I will help you build an investment strategy to achieve the legacy you wish to create for your family. Whether it is partnering with you, your team of professionals, or assisting you in developing a team, I am here to serve you and help ensure your investment needs are met.

The featured cover artist is Dane Parsons. He is 17 years old and a student at CHS. He is also a decorated Special Olympian, a funny guy and an accomplished award winning artist and animator. He currently is an art student of Mrs. Martie Furtick and Mr. Jay Slivocka at CHS. His Parents are Tom and Alica Parsons who’ve been residents of Celina for the last 5 years. Dane has dreams of attending art school and having his own animated series someday. Many of you have his artwork already in your home. He loves to make people smile and his artwork often reflects deeper hidden meaning. Dane has high functioning autism. When he was 18 months old he became very ill and all language stopped. It took his parents 2 years of testing to get a diagnosis of Autism. His parents knew that if he could communicate in other ways that maybe some of his frustration would subside. Drawing entered the scene. When Dane could not speak he drew pictures to communicate his needs, or wants. After some different forms of therapy and a lot of prayer, language started to emerge and the use of visual communication became less and less necessary. However his love of art stayed with him. Dane is ambitious. He dreams big. Nothing surprises his family anymore. They know if he wants it, he will figure out how to achieve it. You can see more of his work on: Lucky Kid Dane Studios Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/luckykiddane/ YouTube channel: LuckykidDaneStudios: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYH9LVtJTblUGd_tbVLAuQA Instagram: LuckyKidDane A little about the cover: April was Autism Acceptance Month. We realize this cover is in May, but it was originally planned for April before COVID-19. We value the importance of Autism Acceptance Month in raising awareness, and we loved this design so much so we decided to use it for May. The puzzle piece window is a representation of the universal symbol of Autism. The puzzle piece is meant to symbolize the complexity of the spectrum and how each child with Autism Spectrum is unique and different. The characters within the puzzle window are his trademarked character “Lucky Kid Dane” and our very own animated version of Benny the Bobcat dressed as the Easter Bunny. While Easter may be over, I'm sure the the Easter Bunny doesn't mind a little more press.

Training and improving yourself is something important to the City of Celina. It’s always a challenge in our busy work and personal lives to complete classes, certifications, even reading a good book. These are all important for growth as a person and team member. With that I wanted to put a spotlight on Brandy Berry, the Texas Court Clerks Association awarded City of Celina Municipal Court Administrator Brandy Berry with the Certified Municipal Court Clerk Certification. She joins an elite group of court clerks in Texas as one of only 117 people to earn the certification. Brandy was raised in Celina and attended Celina High School. She began her career as a bank teller at First State Bank in Celina, where City Hall sits today. She then became a legal clerk for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4 in Collin County, Senior Clerk for Denton County’s Clerks Office, and finally came back home to Celina as a Court Administrator for City of Celina’s Municipal Court. We have been fortunate enough to have her on our team for 6 ½ years. The Certified Municipal Court Certification Program is comprised of Certified Court Clerk I, Certified Court Clerk II, and Certified Municipal Court Clerk. Brandy previously obtained Certified Court Clerk I and II certifications, which both require the completion of 40 hours of education and a three-part exam. Certified court clerks such as Brandy are a tremendous asset to Texas municipal courts. Their expertise ensures that all defendants receive due process and proper legal options. This not only results in excellent customer service, but it also provides a better experience for defendants, attorneys, and the public who visit the city’s court. The requirements for the Certified Municipal Court Clerk certification include: *Certified Court Clerk II in good standing; *40 hours of court observation; *an essay about court observations; *an exam covering 16 books on topics such as management, leadership, court security, diversity, case-flow management, etc.; *28 hours of continued education and an assessment clinic; and attendance at a court administrator seminar. If you see Brandy, please congratulate her on this accomplishment. #celinaproud #lifeconnected

Celina Independen
S C H O O L From The Desk of Dr. Tom Maglisceau
The month of May has always been filled with numerous end-of-year banquets, field days, year-end parties, and our seniors checking off their “last” experiences of high school. A few months ago, none of us could have predicted that our everyday lives would be so disrupted by a virus, but what we have accomplished in the wake of this disturbance is truly amazing. We are so proud of our students’ efforts to continue their learning as we all adjusted to a “new normal,” and I know you join me in thanking our teachers for carrying on the quality of instruction expected in Celina ISD. We continued to hold out hope that our students and staff would come back together before the school year ended, but with the Governor’s last order, which closed our doors for the remainder of the year, we redirected our focus to a strong finish and celebrating the Class of 2020. Celina HS Principal, Dave Wilson, and his team went to work to finalize plans to celebrate this group of seniors. The Senior Spotlight campaign began on our social media pages, individually highlighting activities and future plans for each of our seniors. Also, as a surprise for our graduates, twenty administrators, teachers, and staff members placed over 200 celebratory signs in front of seniors’ homes. Our team continues to work on alternative graduation plans, and one way or another we will provide a ceremony for our students that honors the traditions unique to our community. As we begin to close out the school year, we would like to honor our Superintendent Award winners for the 2020 spring semester as these fantastic kids deserve to be celebrated. We are extremely proud of these students who bring so much pride to our district: Celina Primary - Lillian Bauer & Anthony Luna O’Dell Elementary - Audrey Holcomb, Decklan Davis, Ashley Stuck, Rhett Waldrum, Logan Nichols & Kelly Craddock Lykins Elementary - Margot McCarty, Hunter Skaggs, Cambrie Meekins, Ryan Overstreet, Braedyn Ashworth & Ezequiel Rico Celina Junior High - Whitney Wright & Ryker Westfall Celina High School - Jolie Porter, Issac Buttery, Erin Camp & Brady Cunningham This is truly a unique time in our lives, but I believe that it is during times like this that the best qualities of a community and its people really shine. It is exciting to be coming to Celina when the spirit of the city is shining so brightly. Although each day will continue to bring new changes and challenges, I look forward to learning about everything you believe to be great about Celina ISD and our community so that we can build upon these strengths together. Go Bobcats! Tom Maglisceau

When someone mentions “RV’ing”, chances are you think of the open road, some trees and your family right there beside you. But for over 1,400 health care workers and first responders, the term has taken on a very different meaning in the past couple months thanks to a group created right here in Celina, Texas. RVs 4 MDs is a Facebook group created by Emily Phillips, whose husband, Jason, is an emergency medicine doctor in Frisco. “My mom, Janis, actually had the idea. She said, ‘why don’t you just post to see if anyone has an RV you could rent!’”, Phillips said. So she posted. And within a matter of moments one of her friends said they had a friend, Holly, who wanted to give her RV to the Phillips family to use during the Coronavirus. Days later, Phillips had seen a request for an RV on Facebook for another family of a healthcare worker and Holly Haggard, the woman who generously donated the RV, was now assisting Phillips with the group and became a co-founder of RVs 4 MDs. The group, which has garnered national attention from Fox News, CNN, and pretty much every news outlet, is active 24/7 and has volunteers across the country who have matched over 1,400 workers with RV’s to date. Here’s how it works. If you are a front line worker and you need an RV, you post to the page and there is a form for you to fill out. If you have an RV you are willing to donate to the group for use, you post to the page and there is a different form for you to fill out. We are so proud of the work this group has done in such a short amount of time, and we are so fortunate to have Celina residents like Emily Phillips.

We had the absolute JOY of taking front porch photos for over 950 families in the first month of the Coronavirus shutdown. Here are just a few of the photos from around Celina. We love this community and loved seeing everyone come out and come together during a time when things were so uncertain. We are truly #celinastrong.
