From The Publishers...
First, we want to say we hope all our Bobcat friends and families are well and in good health with Covid still lurking around us. I am happy to see people celebrating and gathering and pray that we can return to a more sense of normalcy soon. The City of Celina and Celina ISD has been great about hearing community feedback and I feel we are on the right track.
We love this community and love being able to share all the great things happening each month with you all. Thank you, once again, for allowing us into your homes. This year we had a record number of Back to School photo entries so we had to make it a full 2-page spread! I LOVE IT! So many smiles and absolutely LOVE seeing their faces! We hope you enjoy this issue of OurCelina and we look forward to many more years of incredible community features to come.

Preston Trail Rotary Club is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser from September 1st to October 31st in order to raise funds to support Rotary charitable activities. Preston Trail Rotary Club has partnered with Funds2Orgs (F2O), the nation’s largest shoe drive fundraising company who assists nonprofit and civic groups to raise money for their respective causes. The Rotary club will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Those dollars will benefit Rotary charities. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at shoe collection boxes located at partner companies throughout the community. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain, and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. "We are excited about our shoe drive," said KJ Clark, Community Service Officer. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for our charities, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. These donated shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world. It's a win-win for everyone!” About Preston Trail Rotary Club Our club meetings are every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month at the Carmela Winery in Celina, and feature a new speaker on topics of interest to Rotarians, our town, and general subjects. We strive to provide an excellent program to keep our members informed and enlightened on the world. Feel free to join us as our guest this week! 6 september 2021 | ourcelinacom

From The Desk of Dr. Tom Maglisceau As I was visiting classrooms at O’Dell Elementary the other day, smiling at the student work already proudly displayed along the hallways, I stopped to look at several family pictures posted from Meet the Teacher Day. Some of the students looked a little shy, grinning under the protection of a father’s hand on the shoulder or a mother’s crouched embrace as they posed for their picture, but in each one, there was the unmistakable joy and excitement of coming back to school. It is wonderful to be back, and it is wonderful to have parents coming back into our schools to partner with us for the growth of our children! We began this year with almost 500 more students than the start of school last year, and we can expect roughly 200 more students to arrive throughout the year. Our Board has budgeted well for the anticipated new staff, resources, and infrastructure necessary to keep pace with this growth, and we continue to meet with city officials and developers as we plan for new schools. Despite a rise in construction costs, we have been prudent with our planning to work under budget and to stay ahead of the inflated costs associated with change orders and rush jobs. Our current project, the new middle school being built on County Road 99, was delayed by bad weather last winter and spring, but our builder, Northstar Builders, has done a fantastic job to get back on schedule so we can open on time one year from now. While we begin experiencing some growing pains, we are committed to maintaining unique, quality learning experiences and exemplary services for our kids while limiting added costs for our community. As many of you are aware, our district contracts with Apple for much of our technology needs, and we were approached with an incredible opportunity to acquire more robust equipment for our students and staff. These new devices will not arrive until late September, but in addition to providing vastly improved technology for students and staff, this new plan allows CISD cost savings that allow us to waive a fee for families to receive district-provided technology. Beyond technology, another cost-savings for our families is our ability to provide free breakfast and lunch for all students this year through a program by the United States Department of Agriculture, (USDA). We continue to enjoy strong participation in many of our extracurricular programs, which certainly means more fans to cheer on our Bobcats. We hope to have some of our largest crowds ever at this year’s events, but may we also all recognize the need to be more patient with increased traffic flows and busy parking lots. Again, we are always thrilled with the support of our families and community, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding as we shift some procedures to provide all of us--and especially the kids--the opportunity to safely attend campus events and activities. It truly is a joy to see the many smiling faces back on our campuses. We thank our entire community for helping us to start strong. Go Bobcats!

CELINA QB CLUB'S NEW HORN TRUCK BRINGS NEW LIFE TO A BOBCAT TRADITION
When the Celina Quarterback Club board met this summer, they voted on purchasing a new Horn Truck for Friday night football games. For decades, the horn has been heard everytime the Bobcats scored and with the new stadium, the club felt like it was time to give the horn some upgrades. Captain Craig Cox was tasked with the project and fellow member, Anthony Rozada suggested they contact a company in Gunter, TX called Hickman Creations, with whom he'd partnered with before. Hickman Creations, run by brothers Keith and Brandon Hickman, met with Cox and, "It was a go right from the beginning," said Cox. The Hickman's started with a 2022 Kawasaki Mule purchased from Sherman Powersports. 20 september 2021 | ourcelinacom
"We didn't have a lot of time before the first home game, but we had a vision and we got down to work," said Brandon Hickman. And work they did! Hickman Creations put in approximately 250 man hours on this project; taking apart the original mule and stripping it down to the bare bones before completely customizing the new horn truck. The original horn was equipped with eight horns, one for each of the State Chapionships Celina Football has won. The new horn truck kept those original eight horns and added a few more. Hickman Creations custom mixed paint for the truck to match the Celina Bobcat orange perfectly. They also added six-foot CO2 stacks, custom racks, custom decals, custom wheels, custom bed and custom upholstry, all completed right there in their shop in Gunter. The truck has a PA System, LED lighting and an android tablet controller and is also fully operational via bluetooth switch pro pod. "The main horn is approximately 144 decibels and when you add the eight original horns on it, it adds another 90 decibels so it can definitely be heard," said Cox. "We were honored that Celina Quarterback Club approached us with this project. The truck horn we created for them is truly unique and something the community can be very proud of for years to come. We are thankful to be a part of the Celina tradition for the next generation of Bobcats," said Keith Hickman "Having something like this on Friday night is one-of-a-kind, literally, and it's good for the community and adds a little something extra you can hear - and feel - every time we score a touchdown," Cox said.
