From The Publishers... We are coming into the home stretch! Baseball, Softball, Golf, Tennis and Track/Field are in full swing. We are proud to cover all things Gunter in our magazine and we receive so much encouragement each and every day from you! Inside this month you will find photos and pages that highlight the successes of our Gunter students. You will also see a couple pages dedicated to the Gunter Bond election coming up. Please take a few moments and read this information. There are a couple of Town Halls coming up for you to ask questions and get more in-depth information and we encourage you to attend those. The future of GISD is in this election. Thank you to Lauren Tolbert Miller for submitting the cover photo this month. She titled it "Enjoying Nature Among the Growth". We love the photo and the caption! Thanks, Lauren!!! The Marler Family,
If you are interested in freelance writing or photography for OurGunter, we would encourage you to reach out to us! We are open to contributions from students, teachers, parents and community members!

Gunter City Manager Recognized for 25 Years of Service ICMA and Gunter City Council celebrate City Manager contributions and length of tenure. Rick Chaffin, City Manager for Gunter, Texas has been recognized for his significant contributions and achievements in the advancement of local government administration in celebration of 25 years of service. Although awarded late in 2021, during the 107h ICMA (International City/County Management Association) Annual Conference, City Manager Chaffin has continued to deliver compelling and steadfast contributions to the City of Gunter. "I cannot think of a better time or person to be the City Manager for Gunter, Texas", stated Mayor Mark Millar. "I have no doubt that we have the right person in place to lead and direct our talented city employees and our phenomenal community into such a vibrant and exciting futurc. In the next fivc years we will more than double our growth. I believe we have a high caliber individual leading our efforts and I look forward to our collective accomplishments as a team as the year progresses," added Millar. Chaffin's background includes more than 31 years of civic government experience which has been achieved by working collaboratively within a framework of respect, honest, open communication, and transparency. Chaffin stated, "I am honored and humbled to know I have a supportive Mayor, City Council and dynamic team that embraces my efforts and vision for the City of Gunter. The past 31 years have been rewarding, and somctimes challenging, yet they have positioned me to lead an invaluable and first-class city into the future. Not only do I understand that city development processes and strategic plans must be direct, clear and efficient to maximize total benefits, I also realize I wouldn't be where I am today without the Icadership of my past mayors and council members, the strength of my team, and of the support within the communities I have served." 6 march 2022 | ourgunter.com
Dr. Seuss Day always falls on March 2nd to celebrate the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, author of the Dr. Seuss children's books. The celebration was created to encourage children to read. Our kindergarten classes have been busy celebrating all the "Seuss" things such as wearing the iconic red and white hat, eatinggreen eggs and ham, wearing "Thing 1 and Thing 2" shirts and more! They have had so much fun celebrating this birthday!

Texas public schools are required to meet a certain number of minutes of instruction per year. The ice storm that caused Gunter ISD to close our schools for two days in February caused many of our “banked” minutes to be used. Unfortunately, we will need to make up some time. After careful consideration and calculations, we have found that we can make this time up by changing March 11th from an early dismissal day to a full day of instruction. By doing this, we are able to keep April 15th as a day off and give you a 4-day weekend (provided that Mother Nature keeps any future ice storms away). 10 march 2022 | ourgunter.com

Every March the Gunter Library celebrates Dr. Seuss and 2022 is no exception. There are 5 different Tuesday’s this month so each will be filled with a different, and oh so funny, Dr. Seuss book. We also have wonderful take-home crafts planned for both the morning toddler & home schoolers as well as the afternoon GISD Kindergarten students. Make sure to drop in the Library each Tuesday for Storytime. 14 march 2022 | ourgunter.com

Spring Break!
Once again this year the Gunter Library will host our Spring Break Library Kids Crafts. Each day we will feature a new and fun-to-make craft for everyone to take home. This is always a special event at the Library having so many kiddos in to do crafting, browse through and check out books. The Library Tot Spot is also a great spot for the little sibling to play while the older kids are busy crafting in the back. The fun starts at 2pm each day Monday through Friday during the break March 14-18. You won’t want to miss the special St Patrick’s Day craft on the 17th. See you there! march 2022 | ourgunter.com
