Meet the Bobcats Tailgate

20

From the Desk of the Superintendent On behalf of the Celina ISD Board of Trustees, our staff and myself, I want to welcome everyone back to school for the 2019–2020 school year. For those of you that will be joining our family for the first time, you have chosen a wonderful community where faith, family, and relationships are valued! Celina ISD is “Home to the Bobcats,” which carries much tradition and pride throughout our community. Our teachers and staff members empower and inspire their students by providing an educational atmosphere where innovation and excellence thrives. We expect our students to lead, be selfdisciplined, honest and connected through school and community events. We also welcome and expect our parents to partner with our district by taking an active role as their child’s advocate, creating open, respectful, and trusting relationships with their teachers and campus administrators. It’s an exciting time for the district as we anticipate the growth that is expected to make its way into our community over the next several years. With growth comes challenges, but at the end of last year, our community overwhelmingly passed a school bond in the amount of $600 million that will be used over the next ten years on a variety of projects to include: 4 elementary campuses, 2 middle school campuses, renovations to Celina Elementary and Celina High School. The bond money will also be used for land acquisitions, technology upgrades, maintenance and transportation needs. This year will also mark a new beginning for not only our students but for our community. Our beloved Bobcat Field has been the pinnacle of our athletic program, but with the growth to those programs, we knew we would be forced to look for alternative solutions to our present facility. Using the last of the 2008 bond money earmarked for athletics, our new multi-purpose athletic complex will open with the 2019–2020 school year. For students involved in not only athletics, but cheer, drill team and band, this new complex will give our students access to top-notch facilities in which to train and to hone their skills while providing our fans and visitors with an amazing experience starting from the moment they enter the stadium. Through relationships built on transparency and open communication, we enthusiastically look forward to strengthening partnerships with our parents, business leaders, and community members. With whatever challenges we may face with the growth that is headed our way, our focus is and will always be the needs of our students and faculty. Celina ISD is committed to “Paving The Way For The Future,” creating leaders for today and generations to come! GO BOBCATS! Rick DeMasters Superintendent of Schools Celina ISD

Frequently Asked Questions Moving your family to a new city and/or district can be chaotic, but Celina ISD takes great pride in our commitment to providing as much information as possible to anyone considering enrollment at our campuses. Here are some questions to get you started. What is Celina ISD’s current transfer policy? Celina ISD is considered a fast growth district, witnessed by the new subdivisions and businesses that are opening in the surrounding areas. Due to the forecast of growth projected over the next 10 years, Celina ISD can no longer accept transfers. Is it true that my home address is listed in Celina, TX but my children would be attending a neighboring school district? Yes, there are subdivisions that list a Celina address but are zoned for Prosper ISD. (Example: Light Farms, Mustang Lakes, etc.) The district boundary lines were drawn years ago when the area was more rural and do not always follow the city boundary lines. When touring subdivisions in the area, we recommend that you check with the builders as to what district will service the families that move into their subdivision. You can also speak with any of our campus personnel to verify addresses within our boundaries. Can I choose what elementary campus my child will attend? The Celina School District, in conjunction with Templeton Demographics, completed an extensive study in order to create the attendance boundary lines for our elementary campuses. The study evenly distributed students attending our elementary schools and has also allowed for growth to occur on each campus without fear of overcrowding conditions. Attendance maps can be found on our website at www.celinaisd.com.

What documents are needed for “Proof of Residency” requirements? You must physically live within the boundaries of the Celina School District prior to the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Proof of Residency is based upon the location of your primary residence. A current water &/or electric Utility Bill (less than 1 month old) that lists your address within the boundaries of the Celina School District and includes the parent &/or legal guardian’s name(s). Gas, television, phone bills will not be accepted. Lease/ Rental Agreement for an apartment or house that lists your address within the boundaries of the Celina School District and includes the parent/legal guardian’s name(s). It must include the start and end date of the lease and name of landlord.

Does the District hold a Registration Fair? Yes, the CISD Registration Fair is held during the first week of August at Celina High School. The Registration Fair is open to all students prekindergarten through 12th grade. Students must be accompanied by their parents to enroll. New and present students/parents will be able to meet with representatives from food services, nursing, transportation, district organizations and specific campus personnel.

WHAT TO KNOW

about our mascot Bobcat Bennie With the support of local merchants and community members, the “Name Our Mascot” campaign kicked off during the 1984 football season. “Bobcat Bennie” was the chosen winner and is dedicated to the memory of the late Bennie Brewer, who was a lifelong fan of the Celina Bobcats. This local barber went all the way backing the Bobcats during their climb up the ladder to victory. He was there at every game, in orange. Between games he pushed the already active Quarterback Club to new ideas and actions. Orange blazers and ties went on sale, followed by stadium seats. He led the way with shoe polish in one hand and a victory sign in the other Truly, one of the all time great Bobcat fans!

For those of you who are new to our community, TRADITION is held in high regard! The second Saturday in August is reserved for Meet The Bobcats. Traditionally, this day started over 30 years ago, with parents and community members watching our Bobcat Football Team execute their first hitting drills of the season. When Coach Elliott took over in 2012, he wanted to increase community involvement and invited support organizations, pee wee teams and community members to pump up the excitement for the upcoming year. The day starts with an invitation to all in

attendance to take the field for a communitywide prayer. With the opening of our new CISD Multipurpose Athletic Complex, we are starting a new tradition. During Meet The Bobcats, we will host our 1st Annual Co m m u n i t y B o b c a t Ta i l g a te . Local businesses, churches, spirit shops, school organizations and campuses will be on hand to get everyone ready and excited for not only a brand new school year, but to cheer on our Bobcats! It will be a morning filled with fun, fellowship and everything Bobcat!!!
