I first heard the story preached over twenty years ago, Elisha was arguably one of God’s most powerful prophets. He asked and received a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. Elisha was anointed by Elijah to be a prophet; Elijah trained him as they ministered together until Elijah was taken into heaven by the Lord. Elisha followed in Elijah’s footsteps in training other prophets to minister to God’s people. In this passage from 2 Kings, the company of prophets refers to the young students that Elisha is training to be prophets. The power of Elisha’s teaching swelled their numbers, so they decided to build a bigger place to meet with Elisha. One of the students had borrowed an ax to cut trees to build their meeting place. In Elisha’s day, the loss of the borrowed ax would have brought shame on the student and forced him to drop out of the school to work to pay off his debt to the borrower. Elisha’s seemingly strange miracle showed his concern for the little things that God has called him to love and care for. For the past seven years, Glenn Floyd has worked tirelessly to prepare a dove field for his annual hunt benefiting Palmer Home for Children. He and his wife Kirby have put their heart and soul, along with countless hours, in many different endeavors to benefit Palmer’s children who live next to their farm outside of Hernando. Glenn created the dove hunt as a way to introduce people to the ministry of Palmer Home. Palmer Home, for over 130 years, has been doing the work of God by providing a nurturing home for fatherless children. The Biblical mandate to care 18 / 4Memphis

for the orphan/fatherless child can be seen throughout the Old and New Testaments. Palmer Home gives its supporters a clear way to serve the Lord by serving the children that God loves, and Glenn works on this dove hunt in order to present others the opportunity to join him and Kirby in the care for these special children. One might think that a dove hunt is a simple thing to prepare and host, but the truth is that it takes months of planning and working to create a field that will draw the migrating birds to a field. In fact, much of the challenge of the hunt is the preparation of the field, and sixty hunters benefit from the work done by one. Several weeks before the hunt, Glenn was laughing at himself over these preparations as he shared with me several pictures of himself standing some 20 feet in the air in the bucket of a front-end loader, attaching wire to power line poles. The 60-year-old poles had once provided electricity to small homes that were long ago abandoned; Glenn moved the poles and strung the wire giving the doves a resting place adjacent to the dove field. The parallels between these two stories, other than the poles, may not be obvious but they are profound. We are introduced to the work of God by those already serving God. The work and devotion of one person provides the opportunity for numerous others to serve God. The attention and concern for small things makes the work of the many more powerful. The work of God is passed on from generation to generation. The Mid-South is full of the faithful that inspire and give many of us the opportunity to come alongside them to do the work of God by reaching out and taking care of our fellow citizens, one small, seemingly insignificant act at a time. n August 2011, my paternal grandfather, Grady W. Agee, fell ill. He died after about three weeks in and out of the hospital. He was 87. Because he was a U.S. Marine during World War II, he was buried with military honors. I remember how hot and dry it was that day. I remember the members of the Marine Corps League, an organization of former Marines many of whom were not much younger than my grandfather, help carry out the ceremony. As the casket was being taken out of the hearse and to the burial plot, a bag piper played a memorable rendition of “Amazing Grace.” After the minister said a few words, the Marine Corps League members meticulously folded an American flag and handed it to my grandmother, and on behalf of the president and a grateful nation, thanked her for my grandfather’s service.

Fast forward to spring 2016. I decided to do a service project at Briarcrest and it was an easy choice - raise money to send a World War II veteran to Pearl Harbor in October through the Forever Young Senior Veterans organization based in Collierville. I read the stories on the organization’s website of how the trips to return to places where these veterans served brought back a flood of memories. Most often, these veterans had not visited these places since their military service, much less talked about it with family and friends. The veterans spoke about how the trips brought them peace, and inspired them to honor their fallen comrades by telling their own stories. And let’s not forget the carnage of war and the sacrifices so many made to make our nation what it is today. Normandy, Belgium, Italy and Pearl Harbor- all places where Americans fought and died. Places that bring back memories of young, ordinary Americans, from such places as the dusty plains of Texas, the boroughs of New York City, the scenic mountains of eastern Tennessee and the magnificent San Francisco Bay area, who traveled across vast oceans to confront those who threatened western civilization as we knew it. My grandfather was one of them. Born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, he spent a majority of his childhood at Shiloh where his mother worked as a clerk. After graduating from the Shiloh School in the spring of 1941, he set out to find a job without much success. Finally in the fall of 1941, with the war raging in Europe and rumors of war to come here, my grandfather decided to join the military before he was drafted. The dress blues of the Marine Corps sealed the deal and he officially enlisted in November 1941. Little could he have known what the

future had in store for him. After basic training at Parris Island, SC, the Marine Corps sent my grandfather to various posts including Camp Lejeune, NC, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia. In 1944, everything changed. My grandfather was assigned to Camp Pendleton, CA, in preparation for deployment to the South Pacific. After being stationed at Guadalcanal for weeks in the spring and summer of 1944, his outfit received orders to move out. The island hopping campaign was in full swing, and he was going to be a part of it. On July 21, 1944, he and his fellow Marines hit Asan Beach on the island of Guam in an attempt to dislodge the Japanese from American territory, which they had held since 1941. My grandfather spoke about how the Japanese would “walk the beach” with their mortar fire. Unfortunately for him, it was accurate. My grandfather was hit in his back with shrapnel from a mortar blowing up behind him. The rush of adrenaline and the heat of battle masked the seriousness of his wounds. Only once in a crater made from a US Navy shell and upon orders from an officer to go back to the beach for evacuation, did he realize how serious it was. He was hit with more shrapnel as he sat on the beach waiting to be taken back to the ship. Once there, he had to climb up the side of the ship only to fall unconscious as soon as he stepped on deck. He woke up days later. That was the end of the war for him. He was shipped back stateside while his outfit was later sent to Iwo Jima. I met Mr. Bob Arata while preparing for my project. The meeting was arranged by Mrs. Diane Hight, founder of Forever Young. Mrs. Hight asked several veterans if they would meet me, but Mr. Arata was the first one who could do so. Mrs. Hight was looking for a member of any military branch to help me. Only when I showed Mr. Arata my grandfather’s Marine Corps ring, a letter my grandfather wrote to his mother proudly telling her of his top marksmanship ranking and a Marine Corps League directory listing former Marines along with their outfit, did we realize Mr. Arata and my grandfather fought together in the 1st Battalion 9th Marine Regiment on Guam. I think Mr. Arata was even more excited than I was about the coincidence. He is only one of a handful of Marines left who fought at Guam and who later experienced the carnage of Iwo Jima. He had never shared his story with his family, but after our meeting we notified Lausanne of Mr. Arata’s interest in telling his story as part of Lausanne’s ongoing WWII Oral History Project that interviews veterans in coordination with the Library of Congress. Thus far, through donations and the sale of patriotic t-shirts, I have been able to raise over $3,000 and hope to raise more so that the few WWII veterans remaining have a chance to travel to those places that affected their lives forever.

Big River Crossing High Stepping Across the Mississippi By Sandi Butler Hughes, Photography by James Wessels

The Mississippi River is our city’s greatest asset, our reason for being here. Even our name pays homage to an ancient city on another great river. Most residents, tourists, or passersby see the Big Muddy by standing on the bank in Tom Lee or Greenbelt Park. On October 22nd, the way we experience the Mighty Mississippi is going to be transformed when the Big River Crossing opens on the century old Harahan Bridge and is the longest public pedestrian bridge in the country spanning the Mississippi River. Walkers, cyclists, babies in strollers, dogs on leashes, tourists and their dollars, locals training for the St. Jude Marathon or out for a Sunday saunter will have a new perspective of the River and the Memphis skyline. The Harahan Bridge is one in the cluster of “old bridges” on the south end of downtown. In engineering lingo, it is a cantilevered through truss bridge, and dates back to the days of Boss Crump. It was Mayor E. H. Crump who first met with the Rock Island Railroad in 1912 to discuss the possibility of a new, second bridge for the booming railroad industry to cross the river in Memphis, bringing more business and money to the Bluff City. The Harahan was built with multiple train tracks still in use today, 21,400 tons of steel, and at a cost of $6 million. The bridge was originally designed with wagonways, which soon after the 1916 opening were outdated. Just a year later in 1917, the wagonways were converted for use by automobiles

and first connected Memphis drivers to the western United States. “We were learning how to get across a river, cross a bridge, and drive across the country all at the same time, 90 years ago, and it was just 90 years ago!” says Jimmy Ogle, Shelby County Historian. The Harahan roadways were used until 1949 when the Memphis & Arkansas Bridge opened, just 400 feet down river, to accommodate the abundant car and truck traffic. After 67 years, it is this long closed wagonwayturned-roadway on the Harahan that will have new life as the Big River Crossing. For this project to be possible, multiple agencies, governments, and millions of dollars had to come together. The centerpiece

of the puzzle was put into place in 2011 when the Union Pacific Railroad agreed to the idea of the walkway, and in 2012, Memphis was awarded the $14.9 million TIGER IV grant. Just a few of the public-private partners who made this project a reality include the cities of Memphis and West Memphis, Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, Tennessee Department of Transportation, the United State Department of Transportation, FedEx, AutoZone, and First Tennessee Bank, just to name a few. The Big River Crossing is a component of the Big River Strategic Initiative, which describes itself as a “collection of projects to activate and celebrate the Mississippi River and its surrounding landscape. From air, land, and water, these projects create a new experience with the river that fosters a deeper appreciation of its significance and grandeur.” Terry Eastin, Executive Director of the Big River Strategic Initiative depicted the Big River Crossing as, “...more than a bridge. This is a cultural asset, a connector of the emerging bike culture and an innovative pathway to the grand Arkansas trail systems.” The Arkansas trail systems also include river levees, with the St. Francis Levee Board being another of the major partners in bringing the project to fruition. “The accompanying levee system spans as long as the Great Wall of China,” Eastin continued. The bike culture is growing throughout Memphis. “The demand for biking infrastructure is so strong that it’s managed to expand across the Mississippi River all the way to Marianna, Arkansas” said Doug Carpenter, marketing and branding partner of Big River Crossing, as well Explore Bike Share, which seeks to bring a 60-station, 600-bike share system to Memphis. “Big River Crossing and the Big River Trail represent another chapter in the ever-evolving network of Memphis ecotourism,

from the Greenway and Greenline to Shelby Farms Park. We have quickly become a destination for people who appreciate outdoor activity, especially bikers and pedestrians.” Bridges have been a part of the Memphis skyline since 1892 when the Frisco Bridge opened, and helped to solidify our city early on as a transportation hub. The Harahan Bridge was named for James Harahan, a progressive railroad executive instrumental in the building of the bridge. Built primarily by hand, before heavy equipment the Harahan is a phenomenal feat of engineering, and today is still a viable, working railroad bridge, a testament to the ingenuity over a century ago. If you get lucky when on the Big River Crossing, you may share the almost mile-long bridge not only with other bikers and walkers, but also a freight train which adds another thrilling element to the whole experience. Standing on the shoulders of early 20th century visionaries who saw the importance of crossing the river by train, wagons, and cars, today’s leaders recognize the importance of biking and walking for 21st century society. A new generation will know the Harahan Bridge as the Big River Crossing, and we will be high stepping into a new way to experience and enjoy our River City. On October 22nd, the gates will open to the public at 1pm, when an all-day celebration will commence on both sides of the bridge in Tom Lee Park and Delta Regional River Park in West Memphis, AR, with food trucks, music, and entertainment, plus a special bridge light show and fireworks at dusk. After October 22nd, the Big River Crossing will be open daily to the public from dawn until 10pm. For more information, visit bigrivercrossing.com.

Your kids may not want their candy bags filled with gourds this October, but for most grown-ups, squash and pumpkin are the perfect Halloween treats. And as long as you know how to cook them, the kiddies may not mind these healthful fruits replacing a few handfuls of their candy. Fall is my favorite time of year. It’s generally most people’s favorite season, but for me, it goes back

further than cozy sweaters, trendy boots, football, and pumpkin spice lattes. Fall was a family tradition when I was a kid. My parents made “Halloween season” so extra special when we were growing up that to this very day, I celebrate the holiday all October. I can actually smell Halloween in the air and memories of decorating the house, going on hayrides, and watching spooky movies as a family always come back to me when I smell the clean, brisk breeze.

To be expected, fall is also my favorite time of year to be in the kitchen. As a chef, I hate to play favorites with ingredients, but there’s something special about the sweet, creamy flavors of pumpkin and squash. Not to mention, the nostalgic aroma and ever-popular flavor of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger – pumpkin spice isn’t just for basic girls, it’s for everybody!

Fried Eggplant 1 eggplant, trimmed & sliced ¼” 1 cup flour 1 cup bread crumbs

1 teaspoon cajun seasoning ½ cup buttermilk 2 eggs

Combine buttermilk and eggs, mix thoroughly to make egg wash. Combine corn flour and Cajun seasoning, mix thoroughly. Place sliced eggplant in egg wash,then drain and roll in corn flour with seasoning. Transfer back to egg wash and roll in breadcrumbs. Place breaded eggplant in a 350 degrees fryer and cook for 4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oil and pat dry with a paper towel. Piquant Sauce 2 teaspoons olive oil 1 12 ounce can diced tomatoes 1 12 ounce can roasted red peppers ½ each red onions, quartered 1 tablespoon garlic, minced

½ cup dry vermouth 1 ounce shrimp base 1 teaspoon tabasco ½ teaspoon cayenne 3 ounces jumbo lump crabmeat, sautéed

1 semi-boneless quail 1 onion, small dice, divided 2 ribs celery, small dice meat of 1 medium butternut squash, small dice 4 ounces pancetta, small dice 1 small loaf sourdough bread, small dice, toasted 1 teaspoon herbs de provence, minced 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves

2 ounces butter, divided 4 ounces heavy cream 2 ounces dry white wine 2 sheets prosciutto 1/2 tablespoon chopped fresh sage, plus 3 whole leaves for garnish 4 ounces ricotta cavatelli, blanched and shocked salt and white pepper, to taste

Heat the olive oil and sauté onions, garlic, tomatoes, and red pepper. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Stir in vermouth and bases simmer 10 minutes more. Add tabasco and cayenne then run through the food processor. Cool and refrigerate.

In a heavy bottomed pan, render pancetta until crispy. Add half the onion, celery, and squash and cook until the squash is tender, roughly 5 minutes. Add half the butter and sourdough. Remove from the heat and season with salt, thyme, and herbs. Set aside to cool. Mixture should hold a ball shape when pressed together. Season quail with salt and pepper, stuff with squash mixture and wrap with sage leaves and prosciutto. Roast at 450 degrees until cooked medium, roughly 8 minutes.

Place a pool of piquant sauce in the center of an 8” plate, swirl around until the bottom of the plate is covered. Place the fried eggplant in the center of the plate on top of the piquant sauce. Place the sautéed jumbo lump crabmeat around the stack of eggplant. Garnish with fresh basil.

In a separate pan, sauté reserved onion in butter until lightly caramelized, roughly 5 minutes. Deglaze with wine and reduce au sec. Add cream and reduce ¼. Add pasta, swing swing, and season with reserved sage and Uncle Merrit’s spice blend. Artfully arrange on a serving platter a la Krog. Slice quail in half and serve hot.

3-4 pounds Butternut Squash, peeled, seeded, diced into chunks, can substitute frozen, cubed 1 each small/med yellow onion, diced 1 each red bell pepper, diced 4 each bacon slices, diced 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

(EVOO) 2 teaspoons garlic, minced kosher salt and ground black pepper (to taste) 4 cups chicken broth, more for thinner soup Thyme

Garnish Goat cheese crumbles Bacon, diced Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly coat full-size baking sheet with oil of your choice (we used EVOO). Toss butternut squash, onion, bell pepper, and bacon together with 2 tablespoons of EVOO, salt, and pepper. Spread onto baking sheet into a single layer. Place into oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until squash is tender, stirring about halfway throughout cook time. Cook bacon for garnish. Heat large skillet over medium-high heat, add bacon and cook until desired doneness (about 6-8 minutes) Heat stockpot over medium heat, and add butternut squash mixture and a dash of thyme. Cook for a couple of minutes while stirring. Add chicken broth and puree with an immersion blender until smooth Bring to a boil, stir, then reduce to a simmer. Add more chicken broth until desired thickness.

Heirloom Fall Squash Salad 2 cups fall squash, diced and 2 tablespoons pumpkin seed oil roasted 2 ounces molasses vinaigrette 6 ounces arugula, rinsed and diced ½ tablespoon pumpkin seed oil For the squash: Two medium-sized fall squash (acorn or delicate work perfectly). Peel, halve and deseed the squash. Cut into bite size cubes and place in a mixing bowl. Toss with olive oil, salt, and black pepper and place on a roasting pan. Roast at 325 degrees for approx. 15 minutes or until the squash al dente (not mush). Once squash is cooked, place in the refrigerator to cool. After the squash is chilled, return it to the mixing bowl and toss with the juice of 1 lemon and 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, as well as 3 tablespoons of fine chopped pastry. Refrigerate until service. For the pesto: ½ cup roasted, salted pumpkin seeds, 1 bunch of parsley, 1 bunch basil, 2 teaspoons minced garlic and the juice of 1 lemon. Place all ingredients in a food processor and begin to puree. As the mixture breaks down, slowly drizzle in ¼ cup olive oil. Mixture will come together in a loose “paste”. Adjust seasoning for salt and pepper. Refrigerate until service. For the vinaigrette: ½ cup molasses, ¼ cup cider vinegar, 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard and the juice of 1 lemon. Place all ingredients in a blender. Begin to puree. As the mixture liquefies, slowly drizzle ½ cup olive or canola oil. The mixture will begin to emulsify and take on a sauce like consistency. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, being sure to go heavy on the pepper as it will contrast well with the molasses.

Grilled Butternut Squash “Steaks” with Autumnal Gremolata

1 large butternut squash, about 3 ½ pounds Olive oil, as needed Salt and black pepper, to taste Gremolata 2 tablespoons sage, minced 2 tablespoons Italian parsley, minced 2-3 garlic cloves, minced 1 lemon, zested and juiced

1 tablespoon shallot, minced 1-2 tablespoons olive oil ¼ cup pine nuts, toasted

Preheat a grill with two cooking zones – medium high and medium low. Make sure that your grill is clean and lightly oiled right before cooking. Cut the squash into crosswise discs about ½-3/4 inch thick. Trim away any peel with a paring or chef’s knife, and remove any seeds. Season with olive oil, salt and pepper on both sides. Grill on both sides over the hot zone for 2-3 minutes, until nice grill marks appear. Move the squash discs to the cooler side of the grill and cover, continuing to cook until soft and tender. If cooking on a grill pan, grill mark on both sides over high heat, then reduce the heat and cover the squash with a metal bowl to help the squash steam. You can also bake the squash in a 375F degree oven for 30-40 minutes until tender. For the gremolata, combine all of the ingredients (except for the pine nuts), in a small bowl. Garnish the grilled butternut squash with a spoonful of the gremolata, a drizzle of olive oil and the toasted pine nuts. Serve with mixed greens or arugula, if desired.

Beet Salad with Pumpkin & Panisse 1 beet

1 Japanese pumpkin

Boil beet until tender, cool and slice. Poach the Japanese pumpkin, cool and slice. Panisse 1 quart water 2 teaspoons olive oil

2 teaspoons garlic, minced 2.25 cups chickpea flour

Boil water, olive oil and garlic; whisk in chickpea flour until the mixture thickens. Spread into an oiled pan and chill. After cooled, slice into rounds. Lime Mint Vinaigrette 3 cups olive oil ½ cup lime juice ½ cup rice wine

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Zest of lime Chopped ice mint

Blend lime juice, rice wine and Dijon; slowly add in olive oil; add in zest and fresh mint. Mix until completely blended. Pistachio Pepper ½ cup pistachios, rough ground ⅛ cup black pepper Mix until fully blended. Assemble salad with a round each of panisse, pumpkin and beet. Pour vinaigrette on top and sprinkle with pistachio pepper. October 2016 / 73

Herb Encrusted Lamb with Butternut Squash Puree 1 rack new Zealand lamb, Frenched 1 sprig thyme 1 sprig rosemary 1/2 bunch parsley 1 cup panko bread crumbs

3 tablespoons olive oil 2 tablespoons dijon mustard 1 butternut squash 4 tablespoons butter Salt and Pepper

Squash Cut the squash in half lengthwise. Clean out center with a spoon. Lay squash on a baking sheet inside facing up. Melt butter in a skillet and drizzle over squash. Season with salt and pepper generously. Tent with foil and bake at 350Â° for 40 to 45 minutes. Once tender, remove from oven and remove center with a spoon. Smash with potato masher or blend in food processor. Lamb Set a skillet over medium high heat. Once warm, cover the bottom with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Season lamb with salt and pepper. Sear on all sides in skillet. Remove from pan and brush with dijon mustard. In a food processor, combine all herbs and bread crumbs. Drizzle in 2 tablespoons olive oil and pulse until incorporated. Bread lamb with herbed bread crumbs, coat well. Bake lamb at 325Â° for 16 to 20 minutes.

It has been said beautiful voices are a gift, and Angel Street Memphis is fostering many beautiful voices of girls throughout the city. This vision that has blossomed over the years into something really special is the brainchild of Jill Dyson, founder and Executive Director of Angel Street Memphis. “We offer a unique opportunity as an extracurricular music program to connect with the heart of the girls in our program and provide a positive outlet allowing them to artistically express their voice, both inward and outward,” Jill says. “Angel Street provides a safe place for girls to learn, grow, share voices and develop into future leaders.” Angel Street is a 501c3 non-profit music organization that serves girls ages 8 to 18 in an under-resourced area of North Memphis. It originally began as a subsidiary of Oasis of Hope, and continues to partner with Oasis to serve 38107. There is plenty of girl power at Angel Street, since it is made up of an all-female group of vocal coaches, mentors and participants. “We exist to mentor young ladies from the 38107 zip code, and spend two semesters each school year learning basic music skills, songwriting and professional recording, private music lessons, and to take part in many live performances as well,” explains Jill. The proof of how powerful and positive of an impact that Angel Street provides is in Terrian Bass, a 2016 American Idol contestant. Terrian was one of Angel Street’s first students. She and Jill became fast friends. Jill says that Terrian is a true

leader in Angel Street, showing the girls of the program that anything is possible and that you can absolutely dream big! “I first met Terrian during her senior year of high school, which was also our first year for Angel Street. There was something very unique and special about this very quiet, reserved girl and after connecting through the program, we became fast friends,” Jill says. Jill and Terrian also sing together at Hope Church. “So much of who I am as a woman of faith, wife, mother, artist, and leader of Angel Street has been sculpted by my involvement at Hope Church,” Jill says. She’s served 16 years on the praise team, she and her husband have raised three boys in the church, and they have been very active in the youth group and outreach. “The impact of Hope has been huge for us as a family. It’s exciting to see Terrian fit in so well to our praise team the past two years and I love getting to sing and worship

with her on weekends. Just this past weekend, we were presented an old photograph from probably 10 years ago, and it was a picture of Terrian singing at Hope as part of a children’s choir through Oasis, and right behind her on the stage, you can see my face peeking through with a huge smile. We had no idea that our paths had crossed so early on. It really is incredible when God weaves into your story such a remarkable young woman. And He continues to do that with every girl that comes through Angel Street...I am blessed.” Jill and Angel Street helped connect Terrian to some pretty cool performance opportunities, and encouraged her gift of writing music. “We took her to audition for NBC’s The Voice that year, and although she did not progress past Hollywood, the producer that year transferred to the final season of American idol and remembered her. He reached out and asked for her to audition privately and to make a long story short, she ended up in the final 50,” Jill recalls. Terrian says that her involvement with Hope Church and Angel Street always provided connectivity, growth and opportunity. “With opportunity comes experience and time to learn who you are as an artist. So, when it came to Idol, I had confidence in myself and my performance abilities. When you know what your best is, you critique yourself based off of that.” Since American Idol, Terrian continues to sing as a lead worshiper at Hope Church and serve as a vocal coach

at Angel Street. She sang in Malaga, Spain during the summer, and she just celebrated the release of her debut single “I Am Free,” which she says is an anthem song for Freedom In Christ. “The amount of fear and anxiety I struggled with growing up was intense. The only way I could overcome fear was through Jesus Christ. It’s been a long journey, and I’m still working on it. I’ve come so far, and I’ve found freedom. With Memphis, I believe this song can mean a lot of different things. I think our city as a whole is searching for freedom and love and acceptance. Memphis needs a big ole’ embrace. I strongly believe it’s through Jesus that we will find what we’re seeking.” Terrian says she would like to inspire other young musicians to respect the process, and that it takes time to build a successful career, especially in music. “With every step you learn something new and effective that will carry you so very far. So, be patient and take it one step at a time. Enjoy the process,” she says. Angel Street just completed their two week process of Angel Street auditions, and Jill says that she is blown away by the talent represented this year. “The word must be out and this will definitely be our biggest season ever. Looking forward to a fabulous year with some incredible young ladies...As we continue to partner with Oasis to serve 38107 this fourth year of programming, we are seeing that it is shaping up to be the strongest year by far.”
