Manvik and Dennis Eagle cleaning up in RCV market
MANVIK & DENNIS EAGLE CLEANING UP IN REFUSE COLLECTION VEHICLES MARKET
Five new Dennis Eagle refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) have started work with Ards and North Down Borough Council, rounding off a bumper year for the Belfast-based dealer Manvik Plant & Hire Ltd.
The 26-tonne vehicles all feature the Elite 6x2 mid-steer chassiswith Olympus 23m3 bodies and Terberg OmniDEKA electric binlifts. “These new trucks mean we now have 26 front line Dennis Eagle RCVs and eight back-up trucks at Ards and North Down, all fitted with Terberg lifts,” said Manvik director Alan Haire. “This latest order was an easy choice for the council to make. The vehicles have already proven themselves to the council to be very efficient and very reliable. In addition to that, the drivers, crews and engineersare alreadyvery familiar with them, which obviously helps. “The low-entry cab is particularly popular with everyone. It’s both safer and easier to get in and out – which, of course, the crews are doing all day long, so they love it. But it also means fewer injuries from slips and falls, fewer people off work and less unbudgeted cost for operators to cover – so they love it too. “And while the council looks after routine service and maintenance in-house, whenever they need anything more, Manvik is just minutes away on the Belfast Harbour Estate. Our goal is to provide a customer support service second to none and our service engineers will beon the scene in no time.” This emphasis on customer service has played a crucial role in winning orders for Manvik. Since July 2021, Dennis Eagle vehicles have been delivered to Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon BC, Belfast CC, Derry City & Strabane DC, Fermanagh & Omagh DC, Mid Ulster DC and more will be delivered to Belfast CC and Causeway Coast & Glens BC any day now. “During the pandemic lockdowns, orders dried up,”said Alan. “But while we knew they’d pick up again, once everyone returned to their routines, nobody expected the boom to be as sustained as this. “We’ve supplied around 50 trucks in the last 12 months – nearly double what we’ve sold before – and there’s no sign of it letting up.” He believes the combination of great vehicles with the best customer support in the
industry from both Manvik and Dennis Eagle, is proving to be the winning combination. “Our existing customers keep coming back to us, which is always reassuring but we’ve had a couple of orders from outside our established customer base too,” said Alan. “Cost and efficiency are the key requirements but of course, efficiency isn’t just about how good the vehicle is. It’s strongly influenced by how good the customer support is and our hard-earned reputation is attracting attention. “At Manvik, we’re a one-stop-shop catering for all our customers’ needs. We understand that they are trying to provide increasingly better services to the residents and businesses they serve. We realise they’re trying to do this in increasingly challenging circumstances. “So, in order for them to succeed, they need us towork to the very highest standards and aim to constantly improve what we do. That’s what Manvik Plant & Hire is about.” VEHICLE SPEC

Minister welcomes investment in Magherafelt Household Recycling Centre
Environment Minister Edwin Poots has visited a Household Recycling Centre in Magherafelt as work begins on improvements to the site, following a £945,898 grant from his Department’s Household Waste Recycling Collaborative Change Programme.
The funding was awarded to Mid Ulster District Council to redevelop the Magherafelt Household Recycling Centre (HRC) and Transfer Station to provide a bespoke state of the art recycling centre and transfer facility, which will increase both the quantity and quality of recyclable materials collected on the site. “Designed almost 20 years ago, utilising open skips and rear-end loaded collection vehicles, the site has evolved and operations expanded to include a waste transfer station for the council’s kerbside blue and black bin materials and as a result it is now no longer fit for purpose.” “The new facilities will provide increased and better material separation and storage on site of recyclables, as well as resulting in a reduced overall environmental impact due to less vehicle movements, better waste

containment and the reduction of litter from open top skips. The customer experience will also improve through better access, signage and fit for purpose containers and compactors at the site. By the end of the first full year of operation, the improved Magherafelt Household Recycling Centre should result in an additional 1,958 tonnes of recyclable material being diverted from landfill.” He added: “Over the past few years we have seen an ever increasing positive and responsible public attitude towards recycling and it is important that we continue to collaborate with local councils and stakeholders to ensure this trend continues. By improving our recycling facilities we can ensure that the quality of our recycling improves, thereby reducing our landfill. This benefits both our economy and our environment.”

Terex Washing Systems have completed the installation of a wash recycling plant based in Geneva, Switzerland. The wash plant converts construction, demolition and excavation waste into two sands and three aggregate products that are stockpiled for use in the production of asphalt. All this is achieved while recycling up to 95% of the water used during the washing process.
A complete crushing, screening and washing solution was provided to the customer on a compact footprint in order to meet their specific requirements. The Terex Washing Systems engineers used over 60 years of industry experience, along with a product from their sister company Terex MPS, to find solutions that would meet the needs of the customer. The aim was a throughput of 100 tonnes per hour with the option of crushing oversized material included. The wash plant consists of an FM 120 2-G Sand Plant, an Aggrescrub 150 Log Washer complete with pre-screen and a Terex MPS Impact Crusher. This section of the wash plant washes, classifies and stockpiles aggregates while recovering two specifications of sand. Any oversized material fed into the system is directed towards the Terex MPS crusher where it is crushed down to a manageable size before being fed back into the washing system. The customer can also feed oversized material directly into the crusher. A fully integrated water treatment plant, that consists of a Deep Cone Thickener, Flocculant Dosing Unit and a Filter Press, allows up to 95% of the water used in the washing process to be re-used. The dirty water is collected in a sump before being treated and allowed to settle in the Deep Cone Thickener. The thickened sludge is then compressed within the Filter Press so that the last remaining water is sent back into the system. The customer is then able to sell the filter cakes that are expelled from the Filter Press. The Geneva based customer is now able to divert thousands of tonnes of construction, demolition and excavation waste from landfill each year. They can achieve this while producing six separate products to be sold or used during asphalt production and further reducing the environmental impact thanks to the water treatment plant. Explains Johnston Patterson, Product and Applications Manager at Terex Washing Systems: “We have provided a complete end to end wash recycling solution for the customer. Our ability to fully integrate washing, crushing and water treatment allows us to design and manufacture systems that perform to a higher standard. Everything is here, from feeder to filter press.” This washing system provides the customer with a sustainable production line of sand and aggregate products from material that would otherwise be sent to landfill.
CDE, a leading supplier of wet processing solutions for the natural processing and waste recycling sectors, has revealed its new AquaCycle A2500 thickener, the latest addition to its top-of-theline water management and recycling systems.
With a capacity of 2500m³/ hour, the new A2500 is CDE’s largest and most advanced water management system to date. It has been developed in response to calls from materials processors operating in high tonnage markets for water management solutions equipped to supply their operations with sufficient water supplies while ensuring optimal production efficiency, minimum loss of fines and maximum water recycling. Darren Eastwood, Strategic Development Director at CDE, says: “It is increasingly important for materials processors to invest in an effective water management system that ensures a steady supply of

clean water to their plants through cost-effective means. “The continued advancement of our pioneering wet processing solutions and leading-edge water management systems is supporting operators working in the natural processing and waste recycling sectors worldwide to overcome the challenges of washing in water-pressured or water scarce areas today.” Where CDE bridged the gap in 2018 with the launch of its A900 and A1500, providing a median alternative to its 600m³/hour and 1500m³/hour models, the new A2500 expands the range with a 2500m³/hour option to fit the requirements of sites processing high tonnages. The increased capacity also provides a lower rise rate, enabling operators to process challenging, harder to settle materials. Designed for easy use and safe access for efficient maintenance, it boasts the first lattice bridge structure on any CDE thickener. An integrated monorail also provides unrivalled access to the motorised rake, gearbox and motor. KEY FEATURES
With a sludge capacity of 125 tonnes/hour, the A2500 includes an adjustable rake lifting mechanism. Featuring passive torque control, the automatic raise and start sequence is designed to protect rakes from surge pressure from dense sludges. The rake itself has also been reimagined, with optimally spaced and redesigned blades for improved sludge conditioning. Powered by the motorised rake arm, the introduction of a new floating scum scraper, which is independent of the rake’s height, allows for the easy removal of unwanted foam, oil and light weight trash.
And, creating even radial flow to all regions of the A2500, a redesigned volute feedwell optimises the incoming flow for improved flocculant performance. Another key feature of the new A2500 is its feed height. Sitting at almost 6.7 metres (6690mm), it simplifies upstream plant design complexity as it eliminates the need for expensive civils, helping to expedite the commissioning process of entire plant solutions. With a tank diameter of 20 metres and a weight of 88 tonnes when empty and 1,150 tonnes when full, the A2500 features a small footprint whilst packing a punchy 2500m³/hour and a solids capacity of 125 tonnes/hour. An alternative to water extraction from natural sources and the costly process of pumping water to the plant, CDE’s A2500, like the full AquaCycle range, significantly reduces costly water consumption by ensuring up to 90% of process water is recycled for immediate recirculation. Darren says the development of the new A2500 delivers all the benefits of CDE’s existing AquaCycle range on a much larger scale. “It responds directly to the needs of materials processors operating in high tonnage markets. These operations, primarily in the areas of C&D waste, specialist sands and heavily clay-bound aggregates, require higher volumes of water resources; they need flexible water management systems with the capacity to supply their operations without compromising on footprint; and they need a system that can deliver this in a way that improves efficiency, driving down operational costs to maximise profitability and enable fast return on investment. These are the guiding principles that underscore the design and development of the new A2500.” Throughout 2022, CDE is celebrating its 30th year in business. It has significant plans to mark the milestone, including strengthening its manufacturing capabilities and expanding its workforce in response to increasing demand. In 2021, CDE recorded its most successful year to date with more bookings than ever before.
