Blank Construction Many Shimano rods make use of exclusive carbon technology to achieve lighter, stronger, more responsive rods. This delivers improved performance, which leads to more enjoyment, and ultimately more fish. Two of the main technologies are Spiral X and Hi-Power X construction.

Spiral X Construction S
Spiral X is a process Shimano apply when constructing a rod blank and it offers the best balance of both strength and low weight. Rods built using traditional construction processes can suffer blank twist and torsion, not offering a true curve, which results in a loss of power and also effects casting distance, hooking power and overall ease of use. With the Spiral X construction process carbon is spirally wrapped in extremely tight coils, both inside and outside of the blank. The Spiral X construction process increases overall performance and reduces blank twist or torsion. Shimano utilise over 30 different types of carbon tape, with each rod utilising different configurations to make the most effective blank for its intended use.
Different fishing styles require different rod actions for maximum efficiency. Below is a description of the actions available. The rod specification tables in this brochure indicate the specific action of each rod. XF = Extra Fast. Most of the action is at the tip, making the rods perfect for very delicate bites or for situations where fish have to be pulled from cover immediately. F = Fast. Excellent casting performance, especially with lightweight lures or for long range distance casting. Excellent for instant hook setting. MF = Moderate Fast. An excellent compromise between good casting performance and secure playing action with controlled power. M = Moderate. A superb fish-playing action that enables you to control hard fighting fish with confidence. A moderate action also has a wide casting weight versatility. S = Slow. A specialised action designed for ‘slow pitch jigging’ on the Game Type Slow Jigging rod. Creates a unique lure action and offers great fishplaying performance.

Hi-Power X is an extremely important feature. The Hi-Power X incorporates a carbon tape wrap on the outside of the blank in a spiral pattern to increase overall strength. This also enhances stiffness and removes twist completely. This process offers greatly increased performance when casting longer distances and produces more accuracy and greater strength when hooking hard fighting fish. Hi-Power X construction also allows the carbon tape to be wrapped from the butt to the tip of the blank, which is an industry first. Because fine tips are more prone to twist, Hi-Power X is an extremely effective feature in this area of a blank. Shimano has both the knowledge and technology to apply this to such fine sections.

CI4+ Reel Seat Shimano develop a wide range of reel seat designs to match the rod on which they are applied. Some of the more specialised reel seats incorporate the use of CI4 and CI4+ carbon. CI4 is over 20% lighter and 1.6 times stronger than conventional polymers, with CI4+ being a technical advancement of CI4 which offers even more strength. This exclusive material allows Shimano to make ultra light reel seats, whilst maintaining the maximum strength.
Carbon Monogrip The Carbon Monogrip is an integrated hollow rear grip that is made from carbon. This advanced design removes the need for other materials to be wrapped on to the blank, is extremely lightweight, and offers excellent transfer of vibration from the blank to the hand. When compared with existing grips, the Carbon Monogrip is up to 10g lighter and increases sensitivity by up to 130%, enabling you to feel every vibration of a lure and the exact moment a fish attacks. Extensive testing has delivered excellent results producing outstanding performance, and the Carbon Monogrip design gives Shimano more options to develop much more sensitive rods for many other fishing disciplines.

This is the state-of-the-art jigging technique that has been spreading in Japan and now all around the world, elevating the game of jigging to another dimension. Slow pitch jigging is not slow reeling. It is a continuous sequence of stop and go pitches. It’s basically one pitch per second. That tempo is very slow compared to the conventional style of jigging and has three main variations that can be combined: Slow Pitch Jerk, Hi Pitch Jerk, Long Fall Jerk. This technique is usually done using a baitcasting or multiplier reel. Fitted with Fuji K type anti-tangle guides, the shorter 1.73 metre length provides excellent casting accuracy and fish playing control. This model offers excellent versatility and can also be used for twitching and jerking large lures and poppers to fish feeding on or just below the surface.

GAME TYPE SJ B684 Made specifically for slow jigging or slow pitch jerking with a conventional reel like Ocea Jigger 2001. This specialised rod has a parabolic action, and a super slow taper that also works perfectly with long fall techniques and other variations of slow jigging. This rod is designed so that even when you use small pitch movements like 0.5 or 0.25 of a reel handle turn, (20cm to 30cm in length) it responds perfectly and springs up slow and long. The SJ B684 is rated for jigs up to 300g and has all ingredients a good slow jigging rod should have. It is highly sensitive with a very thin blank that works from top to bottom and can adapt to a wide range of jig weights and water conditions.

GAME TYPE LJ Light Jigging Light Jigging is a recent technique originating in Japan. It is a variant of regular jigging, but this category includes light vertical fishing where the jig is replaced by a small lure which often represents a kind of squid - the two most popular being Inchiku and Madai Jigs. A great thing about this technique is that it works all year long for a wide range of species.
GAME TYPE LJ S632R & B632R Two versions of the same blank made for spinning and baitcasting reels. The rods have a slow taper that will cater for a variety of light jigging techniques. Featuring Shimano’s CI4 Perfection reel seats, these rods are extremely light and perfectly balanced, making them comfortable to hold and use for extended periods. With the ability to cater for jigs up to 150g in weight, they pack enough sensitivity to feel everything, while retaining power in the blank to land fish of almost any size you are likely to encounter. Both models are rated for jigs up to 150g. If you do a mixture of vertical jigging and casting/jerking the spinning model will increase your distance casting and make your life easier when jerking. However if you prefer vertical jigging and its thousands variations, the baitcasting model will allow you to ‘feel’ much more lure action than the spinning model because of the direct contact with the line and you will immediately know when you have reached the bottom.
