BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S

CITIZEN’S ACADEMY

MANAGER’S CORNER

Dear TGO Residents,

Today is Good Friday, and on behalf of the CSA team, I wish you an Easter filled with joy, love, and the special blessings this holiday season brings. Blue Heron is open on Easter Sunday from 11am until 5pm to offer a wonderful holiday menu at a great price. Reservations are recommended so please call in advance.

The Great Outdoors hosted several high-profile community events these past few weeks. I had the opportunity to play in the Parrish Foundation Golf Tournament held here on Friday, April 4th. There were 130 players, including many local leaders from North Brevard. It was wonderful hearing so many positive comments about our renovated course, especially our beautifully expanded greens. We also hosted the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon last week, along with Titusville High School Prom last weekend. These events remind me that TGO plays an important role in our North Brevard community, and we have so much to offer those who live just outside our gates.

Recently several volunteers from our Nature Trail committee installed alphabetic letters, from A to Z, along the Nature Trail starting just beyond the Raccoon Road entrance and ending just short of the Addison Way entrance. The letters are mounted on wood posts. The reason for the letters is so trail users can identify and report specific areas of concern along the trail, such as fence damage, medical emergencies, hurt animal locations, flooded area, etc.

CSA has performed very well financially in the first quarter of 2025, and we have built a strong surplus to start the year. Our 2024 external audit is complete, and the auditing firm presented their report to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors this past Wednesday. This report is now published on our website and available for homeowners’ review. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

It’s important to remind TGO residents that it’s Springtime, and our wildlife are very active and moving around, especially our alligators. Please remember to keep your distance from wildlife, be careful around all of our waterways, and most importantly, do not attempt to touch or feed our wildlife. The Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission has a ton of information on their website regarding alligators and how to live peacefully and safely around them. Here’s the website link, I hope you’ll check it out: https://myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/wildlife/alligator/.

This issue of The Happenings features some wonderful photos of our outstanding employees who were recognized at our spring quarterly breakfast. You will also see some photos highlighting the Brevard Sheriff’s Citizens Academy, which we are pleased to be hosting here at TGO at this time.

Sincerely,

PAT FISCHER NISSAN

FROM THE EDITOR

April.

Spring has officially sprung—or at least, it’s settled in comfortably here in Florida. While other parts of the country are still dealing with the back-and-forth of snow flurries and surprise cold snaps, we’re enjoying that golden window of warm (but not too hot) days, bright skies, and gentle breezes. The trees are green, the birds are chatty, and the beach is calling—again.

This time of year has long been tied to renewal and fresh starts. Easter, Passover, Ramadan, Holi— each tradition brings its own rituals of reflection and rebirth. And even if our version of spring doesn’t involve dramatic seasonal shifts, we still feel that sense of possibility in the air. It’s in the longer days, the return of backyard barbecues, and maybe even the urge to clear out a closet or start something new.

April also brings us Earth Month, a time to pause and appreciate this incredible planet we call home. And Florida gives us plenty to admire—palm trees swaying, manatees cruising by, and sunsets that feel like works of art. Whether you’re planting something new, reducing waste, or just taking a walk to soak it all in, every little bit of connection counts and this is particularly easy to access at The Great Outdoors.

So here’s to beginnings, in all their forms. To spiritual reflection, sunny afternoons, and the many ways we get to start again. And to Florida spring—the sweet spot between sweater weather and full-on summer, reminding us to savor the moment and maybe wear sunscreen just in case.

Comments, ideas, suggestions, and submissions are always welcome.

Golf Carts in TGO: Slow Down & Make Those Stops

As you all know there are many golf carts here in TGO and they are always zipping around the neighborhood. Unfortunately, serious golf cart injuries are on the rise to the tune of approximately 13,000 per year requiring emergency room visits. Luckily, here in TGO, we haven’t had many serious mishaps and we hope this good record continues. Please don’t be a statistic; stop at stop signs, control your speed, and do not turn corners at high speeds.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION & NOTICES

Emergency Vehicle Protocol

Florida and TGO share the same vehicle and traffic laws as the rest of the US: Everyone must yield to emergency vehicles. If there’s no shoulder on the road, simply stop to allow an emergency vehicle to pass. We have all been driving long enough to know this. Please, when you see emergency vehicles coming in with lights flashing, pull over and let them pass! It could be your loved ones they are here for.

AED Basics (Automated External Defibrillator) Have Someone Call 9-1-1 While You Operate AED

The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that diagnoses incorrect heart rhythm patterns that could potentially be life threatening. The device treats the condition with electrical shocks.

AED use requires minimal training because an electronic voice prompts the user through each step. If you are helping a person who collapsed and you’re unsure if a heart attack is the reason, don’t hesitate to use the AED. Every minute counts.

The device determines if the patient needs an electrical shock or not. Simply place the AED pads on the patient’s bare skin, one on the right upper chest and the other on their lower left side. No one else should be touching the patient because false readings could result. The AED will advise you, the device operator, what to do next.

TGO has eight AEDs located at CSA buildings.

CSA Trash Pick Up Rules

The CSA crew picks up household trash 364 days of the year (off for Christmas). You’ll see them in a big truck pulling one or more green hoppers behind it. The guy crouching on the hopper grabs your trash bag as they pass by. To make the process efficient, please follow these rules:

• Trash must be placed in plastic bags that are tied closed. Lightweight bags should be tied together. Trash that is not in plastic bags may not be picked up.

• Break down all boxes and put all packing material in a closed bag.

• Place trash within one foot of the road so that it’s within easy reach.

• Dispose of your pet’s waste inside the closed trash bag.

• Put trash out at the curb by 10:00 am - Pick-up time varies within the park.

• Do not mix household trash with organic yard debris or construction materials.

• Do not put trash out at night because by morning it will have been scattered by wild animals.

Please do not allow pets to urinate on trash or debris.

The crew has to pick this up!

• Also be aware that if you place your trash out on the street too early, the vultures think you have prepared them a sack lunch!

CSA Yard Debris Pick-Up Rules

The CSA crew picks up organic yard debris at least once per week. Tree trimmings should be cut down to a maximum of 4 feet long, weigh less than 50 pounds, and be stacked uniformly at the curb. Loose material such as pine needles, leaves and small twigs must be collected in untied plastic bags or open containers. The CSA will not pick up sod, dirt, tree stumps, construction material (e.g., concrete, wood, drywall, metal), chemicals (e.g., paint, oil), major appliances, or tires. DO NOT bring these items to the CSA Maintenance Yard yourself. They may be dropped off, without charge, at the Brevard County Mockingbird Mulching Facility (321-264-5009) on South Street (SR405). Go past the Lowes SR405 entrance then turn LEFT at the first traffic signal. Most other waste items such as carpet, porcelain plumbing fixtures, etc., that are not mentioned above can be dropped off at the Brevard County Transfer Station (321-264-5048) that is also on South Street (SR405), but 0.5 mile past Lowes on the same side of the street.

Clearing Vegetation on CSA Property

Our Declaration of Covenants states that “No CSA land may be cleared of any vegetation without prior written permission from the Board of Directors or its designee. Unauthorized clearing of CSA property will result in a hearing, with possible fines and ordered replanting.” This only makes sense, as you would not cut vegetation on someone else’s property without permission first. In order to track this better, we will require anyone seeking permission to cut vegetation on CSA property to fill out an ARC permit. An approved permit must include the CSA manager’s signature, and a copy of the permit will be filed in your ARC file for documentation purposes.

Guide to Living With Alligators in TGO

There are 32 lakes in The Great Outdoors and all of them are home to alligators. Please keep these points in mind to be safe when alligators could be nearby:

• It is illegal to feed, taunt or harass an alligator.

• Do not swim or wade in any of our lakes.

• Do not walk near the shorelines and do not walk your pets near the shoreline.

• Do not allow your pets to swim, exercise or drink in or near our lakes.

• While alligators can be active at any time, they are most active between dusk and dawn and move during the night to different water sources.

• Please give our alligators the respect and space they deserve.

NOTE: If you come across an aggressive alligator, please contact the CSA Office prior to SNAP and allow us to handle any situation.

FIRE BREAKS AT TGO

What the heck is a FIRE BREAK?

It could be a stream or a river, a dirt trail or a super highway, any feature on the landscape that would deprive a ground-traveling wildfire of a source of fuel. The fuel could be grass, dry leaves, wood cuttings, tree bark and branches.

The sign at the Security Gate proclaims TGO as an NFPA certified “Firewise Community In 2010, Fire Chief Don Payne moved in, assessed the wildfire threat, gathered some concerned Fire Instructors and met the National Fire Prevention Association standards to become the first Firewise Community in Brevard County. Now In 2025 we are helping other wildfire threatened communities to meet the same safety standards and become FIREWISE safer in the threat of wildfire destruction. This is accomplished through a program of community education and involvement.

But why is all this even necessary? Because we moved here! I don’t regret that move. I love it here, but there is a cost, unknown at closing. I was not aware of the concept: Urban Wildland Development: building in an area that could burn. So, what can you do? MOVE or MITIGATE. I chose to make the problem less. I’m not going anywhere!

How long has this been going on? Locally it has been a problem since the first native inhabitants moved in, stuck a stick in the ground and called it “camp”: about 10,000 years. Recovery after fire was simpler back then for the native inhabitants and the wildlife. Today, you move away and build a safer home, in a safer place and you still mitigate, only smarter.

Some of the tools you can use to help mitigate include:

1. Keep your property “Lean, Clean, and Green”: Trim bushes and trees so that they do not make contact with the house. A grass fire would love to climb your home’s exterior and torch the roof. Keep the roof clear of pine needles and other “kindling“.

Firewise Committee - Contact Information

Butch Jones Chairman 804-514-4458

Christopher Miller Co-Chairman 407-375-8310

Tim Graham 561-262-8833

Donald Payne 407-222-0583

2. Cut down climbing vines for the same reason. Discourage a ground fire from moving in.

3. Pick up leaves and sticks and any downed palm fronds.

4. Keep all living plants and grass well-watered.

5. Replace Wood chip mulch and pine needles with rocks, gravel or rubber mulch.

6. Cutting “Fire Breaks” with help from CSA, St. John’s River and Fla. Forestry equipment.

7. Prescribed Burns. With help from St. John’s River Water Management and Fla. Forestry.

8. Remove burnable trash from your roof and gutters.

9. Have hoses pre-connected for spot fires.

10. Clean yard trash from under decks. Throughout this process, take breaks, stay hydrated (even if you’re not thirsty) and help CSA personnel with vegetative waste removal. Remember to cut tree limbs and palm fronds to four foot lengths in order to help CSA removal.

I was shocked, last week,: to learn that some residents of TGO have been dragging yard waste into our FIRE BREAKS!!! WHY? This mindless activity would only feed a wildfire that has slipped into TGO! i

BABY GOPHER TORTOISE RESCUE - BE ALERT FOR THESE LITTLE GUYS!

A TGO resident was going about his day refilling dirt into little holes dug by wildlife residents the previous evening. As he covered up one small hole, he discovered something moving - it was a 1.5 inch baby Gopher Tortoise actively shoveling sand from a shallow hole with its front feet! The baby tortoise was actually making his first burrow. Unfortunately it was right along Plantation Drive, and wouldn’t likely survive.

The resident wisely contacted Betty Salter, who immediatley recognized it as a Gopher Tortoise hatchling. She contacted Dr. Bob Taylor, our resident Gopher Tortoise expert. Gopher Tortoises are protected as a Threatened Species by the State of Florida and can only be handled by trained experts. Bob holds a permit from the state and works in cooperation with FWC and other conservation organizations to save these tortoises. We are fortunate to have him living in our community! Bob carefully placed him in a safe area to begin his first burrow.

Bob explained that hatchling season is between September and November. The young will spend their first winter in the burrow with an adult, and now this baby was heading out to dig his first burrow, and establishing his first territory for his lifespan of 50 -75 years.

The baby was numbered (86!) and will be tracked for the rest of it’s life in Bob’s extensive data base of TGO Gopher Tortoises. Bob identifies each Gopher Tortoise in TGO with a number placed on the back of the shell with safe paint.

Each turtle is weighed, measured and photographed with detailed notes. There are a dozen or so TGO residents whom Bob has enlisted to be Gopher Tortoise Scouts. These scouts attend training and orientation classes with him. When they find a Gopher Tortoise, the scout reports the geopositioning and sends photographs and other information to Bob so the tortoise can be tracked. The scouts never touch the tortoise, and it cannot be emphasized enough that these are a threatened and protected species and touching or handling them is illegal

Bob does say, however, if you see a turtle walking along the road, you may touch it only for safety reasons, placing the turtle in a safe place in the direction it was heading.

#86! This baby Gopher Tortoise was saved by an alert TGO resident. The young tortoise was working hard to dig his very first burrow right along Plantation Drive. Bob Taylor was contacted to moved the baby to a safe location. As you can see, he is so tiny! Be careful when driving or walking - if you see something which looks like a tiny stone, it could be an endangered baby Gopher Tortoise.

Dr. Bob Taylor, TGO resident, received his PhD in Zoology from the University of Florida. His dissertation was on the Reproductive Biology of the Gopher Tortoise.

THIS IS NO “ARMADILLO HOLE”!

Gopher Tortoise hatchlings are on the move! If you see what appears to be a dark object or small stone on the road, it could be a baby Gopher Tortoise! Please contact Betty Salter right away. This may look like an “armadillo hole”, but was actually a Gopher Tortoise hatchling burrow!

HIKING / LIGHT TRAIL MAINTENANCE

We’re approaching the end of the dry season so the St. John’s River bottom has dried up for hiking & biking, and it runs just a couple miles west of TGO. If anyone would like to join Brian exploring the area by mountain bike, he plans to ride weekly, probably on Thursdays, for the next few weeks. Brian has graciously offered to lead some guided hikes to take advantage of the best of the dry season.

For more information, contact Brian: 407-766-7867 or SkinDvr2000@yahoo.com.

Notice the normal water level mark on the tree against which Brian’s bike is resting!

UPDATE ON THE BABY OPOSSUMS

In the last issue we reported on a mother oppossum sadly being injured, and the compassionate resue effort to try and save her. Most of her pouch babies were injured and died, however the two babies who survived are still alive and being cared for by the wildlife rehabilitator in Christmas. We’ll keep you posted about their progress.

INTERNET SALES VOLUNTEERS KEEP SANDY JUBA’S LEGACY MOVING FORWARD!

For years, Sandy Juba has single-handedly collected used items from TGO residents such as furniture, small appliances, etc. and posted items for sale on multiple internet sales platforms. Please help keep her legacy moving forward.

Sandy is training volunteers to learn what she has done, and has broken the tasks down:

• Picking up donated items and bringing them to the storage unit - we could use some guys to help. And someone with a truck would be great!

• Taking photos and dimensions for the posts

• Posting items online and meet with potential buyers

If you can help with any of these tasks, let Sandy know!

ALL PROCEEDS from these internet sales are donated to the Nature Center. This provides a substantial amount of income used for Nature Center maintenance, utilities, programs, security, supplies, and upkeep.

If you would like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact Sandy Juba at 321-543-0502.

BCSO CITIZENS ACADEMY #1: GEAR & COMM

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy is a five-week (five-session) program designed to give Brevard citizens a look at the various aspects of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. This is a chance for residents to learn what the 1,700 men and women of the Sheriff’s Office do on a daily basis. Participants will experience an orientation similar to that of newly hired deputies, during which they will learn from BCSO trainers. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view many of our BCSO equipment, including a mobile crime scene lab, aviation & marine vehicles, and much more. Additionally, at the end of the five weeks, a ceremony will be held, and Sheriff Wayne Ivey will be in attendance.

Deputy Martinez continues explaining about the work patrol officers perform.
There’s a LOT of gear in those patrol cars!
Deputy Jay Martinez starts it off with a presentation about uniform patrol

The first Academy session was held at Plantation Manor on Thursday afternoon, April 3 and featured presentations about uniforms, the patrol cars, and gear that oficers carry and about the high-tech communications center.

Deputy Martinez covered all of the details in his informative presentation which was followed by an in-depth session about the Communications Center and their capabilities.

This was just the beginning of these interesting and informative sessions and grateful held exlusively for TGO residents!

The discussion about the Communications Center was fascinating.
Making an ACTUAL call to 911 demonstrating how the system recognizes where you are - even using a mobile phone with a non-Brevard are number

BCSO CITIZENS ACADEMY #2, JAIL & CSI

The second Academy session was on April 10 and featured a presentation about the jail and the Crime Scene Investigation unit. This session started with jail Commander Stephen Fernez explaining all about the jail, as well as the various programs for rehabilitation, care, and crime prevention. This was followed by a fascinating presentation about Crime Scene Investigation. Participants were even brought into the the special Mobile Crime Lab van that was parked outside in front of the Manor.

Both presentations were followed by a Q&A session where the officers did their best to answers all queries.

The CSI presentation included some interesting (and scary) stories of cases.

The Mobile Crime Lab was parked right outside - causing some residents to wonder what was happening!
Inside the Mobile Crime Lab
The Citizen’s Academy participants gather for a group photo.
Commander Fernez holds the attention of the crowd with stories of life in the county jail.

Employee Breakfast

The CSA Board of Directors hosted our Spring Employee Breakfast on Thursday, April 3rd. We celebrated our teamwork and safety record this high season, and talked about how our team is now transitioning to our low season, which is also the growing season. We also talked about the successful golf course renovation which opened back up in January, and how a tough financial year of 2024 is shaping into a positive financial year of 2025, with a strong first quarter for our golf course and restaurant.

The CSA team welcomed Tom Wheir back as our Chairman of the Board, and we were also happy to have Sharon Wheir hosting our employee breakfasts again. Sharon always makes these quarterly events feel special, this time with lots of Easter decorations (Thank you Sharon!) Drew and Carmella gave away 10 gift cards to the lucky door prize winners.

4/3/25

Billy and Tom recognize George Mattocks for 5 years of service to the TGO Golf Course and CSA
Guy Sampson, our Buildings Supervisor, was recognized for 22 years of service and hard work to TGO
Billy and Tom recognize Monica Ali-Gordon for 5 years of service to TGO’s administrative team as our controller

Employee of the Quarter: Dawn England

Restaurant Manager Tom Collins writes: “When I hear employee of the quarter, it’s not just someone who does their job well - but someone who goes above and beyond their job, ... with a positive attitude and a smile on their face. ... Dawn has helped me to get my feet on the ground and show me the way through the maze of what we call, “The Great Outdoors”. She is readily available to anyone if they have a question or need help. Need a shift covered? No problem! You have seen her on the floor taking tables, on the beverage cart serving golfers, and in the Blue Heron and Manor hosting banquets - always with a smile on her face! She has been the key person handling the ... sales we have brought in this banquet season to help keep the BH moving forward. From the initial contact with the guests interested in a banquet, to setting up menus for the banquets and getting dates/times squared away, coordinating with the kitchen on the menu and following up to make sure we are properly staffed for the events. Again - all with a smile on her face! She is our Jack of All Trades. People respect her and what she does here at the Blue Heron - with this award it’s time for those on the outside looking in to see what we see and give her the proper recognition she so deserves! Thank you, Dawn, for a job well done, you’re our employee of the quarter!”

Carmella and Drew Proulx have some fun drawing door prizes
Board Members serve our CSA staff with some great breakfast items
Tom and Billy recognize Josh Faiga for 5 years or hard work and service on our CSA Facilities Team
Tom and Billy recognize Rick Reinish for 5 years of service as a Courtesy Patrol officer

Funny Thing Is… Aging Is A Scientific Mystery!

Aging Is A Scientific Mystery but you can also call it “Just Forget It.” I’ve been doing top secret scientific research for a number of years in an attempt to enhance the human experience and figure out why some inexplicable things keep happening to me. Sounds pretty official, doesn’t it? Well, for instance, my scientific research has shown that the older I get, the smaller the writing gets on those little teeny, tiny, itty, bitty papers they jam in the pill bottle.

Also, I’ve discovered that scientists aren’t telling us that gravitational forces are increasing every year. How do I know? Well, my research has shown that since I passed 60, it gets harder every year to get out of my chair and, if that isn’t enough proof for you, my chest has sunk into my stomach. See? Gravity must be increasing. Pretty amazing stuff, huh?

You’re not gonna believe this, but nobody else is doing this kind of research anywhere. Want to hear more? Of course you do. Research has shown that once you pass 60 it takes twice as long to look half as good. Also, have you ever gone to a professional baseball game or concert and noticed that people over 60 come an hour early and leave before it’s over just to avoid

the crowds? And why do older people who know their bladder won’t last longer than 15 minutes still go for a ride in the country? These are great mysteries. I’ve also discovered that since I passed 60 friends are comfortable confiding secrets with me because they know I’ll forget what they said within the hour.

You know, it’s easier to lie about my age now since I can’t remember what it is. Hey, it’s actually great getting senile. You’re always meeting new people. That renowned scientist/comedian George Burns identified the stages of memory loss as you age. “First you forget names. Then you forget faces. Then you forget to put your zipper up. Then you forget to put your zipper down.” Take it from me. I’ve seen it all, done it all, but I just can’t remember it all, I think. One thing I do know is when recalling my conquests when younger, each time I tell a story I become better than I was before. Yes, I never was the man I once was.

Now, what was I talking about?

Dr. Sammy

The Sun makes a sound but we can’t hear it.

In the form of pressure waves, the Sun does make a sound. The wavelength of the pressure waves from the Sun is measured in hundreds of miles, however, meaning they are far beyond the range of human hearing.

Octopuses don’t actually have tentacles.

They have eight limbs, but they’re arms (for most species). Technically, when talking about cephalopods (octopuses, squids etc), scientists define tentacles as limbs with suckers at their end. Octopus arms have suckers down most of their length.

Most maps of the world are wrong.

On most maps, the Mercator projection – first developed in 1569 – is still used. This method is wildly inaccurate and makes Alaska appear as large as Brazil and Greenland 14 times larger than it actually is. For a map to be completely accurate, it would need to be life-size and round, not flat.

Earth’s poles are moving.

This magnetic reversal of the North and South Pole has happened 171 times in the past 71 million years. We’re overdue a flip. It could come soon, as the North Pole is moving at around 55 kilometres per year, an increase over the 15km per year up until 1990.

Chainsaws were first invented for childbirth.

It was developed in Scotland in the late 18th Century to help aid and speed up the process of symphysiotomy (widening the pubic cartilage) and removal of disease-laden bone during childbirth. It wasn’t until the start of the 20th Century that we started using chainsaws for woodchopping.

Football teams wearing red kits play better.

The colour of your clothes can affect how you’re perceived by others and change how you feel. A review of football matches in the last 55 years, for example, showed that teams wearing a red kit consistently played better in home matches than teams in any other colour.

Bananas are radioactive.

Due to being rich in potassium, every banana is actually slightly radioactive thanks to containing the natural isotope potassium-40. Interestingly, your body contains around 16mg of potassium-40, meaning you’re around 280 times more radioactive than a banana already. Any excess potassium-40 you gain from a banana is excreted out within a few hours.

•Move it to your new employer’s 401(k) plan, if you’ve changed employers and your new employer plan allows for it.

•Roll the account over to an individual retirement account (IRA).

•Cash it out, which is subject to potential tax consequences.

We can talk through your financial goals and find the option that works best for you.

OBITUARIES

William J. Shaw

March 19, 2025

William J. Shaw, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at the age of 82 in Titusville, Florida. Born on March 30, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, William or Bill, as he was affectionately known by his loved ones embodied a spirit of joy and generosity that left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.

Bill’s early years in Philadelphia laid the foundation for a life characterized by dedication and service. Excelling in his studies, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, which set the stage for a successful career. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, a testament to his unwavering patriotism and sense of duty. Following his military service, Bill joined Exide Battery Company, where he rose to the position of Director of Sales, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues for his intelligence and leadership.

At home, Bill’s heart belonged to his beloved wife of nearly 57 years, Lynda C (Stock) Shaw. Together, they created a warm and inviting home, raising their two children, Jeffrey W Shaw and Jennifer L Shaw (Michael Evans), with love and wisdom. The joy of family life was further enriched by the laughter of his grandchildren, Jason and Megan Podbeilski, who will cherish their grandfather’s memory, and the precious moments shared with him.

Bill’s brother, Thomas Shaw (Alice), was not only a sibling but a lifelong friend, sharing countless memories and experiences that only brothers can. Their bond remained a constant source of strength and camaraderie throughout Bill’s life.

A man of diverse interests, Bill had a passion for collecting, from pedal cars and gas signage to antique automobiles. Each item in his collection told a story, a snapshot of history that he was eager to share with others. His love for his community was equally evident, as he and Lynda served on several committees, offering support to those in need of food and other necessities. Their selfless acts of kindness and compassion were a reflection of their shared commitment to making the world a better place.

Bill’s zest for life was not confined to his home or community. Alongside Lynda, he embarked on adventures across the United States and around the globe, embracing the beauty of new places and cultures. Whether it was a road trip in their RV or a flight to a distant land, Bill’s curiosity and enthusiasm for exploration were infectious.

A true gentleman of leisure, Bill found solace and enjoyment on the golf course. The fairways and greens were a sanctuary where he honed his skills, fostered friendships, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of the game.

Bill’s legacy is one of love, service, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. His intelligence was matched only by his kindness, and his selfless nature was a guiding light for all who knew him. As we bid farewell to a man who lived a life full of purpose and joy, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.

William J. Shaw’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of devotion, adventure, and compassion. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all the lives he touched. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived—a life that serves as a testament to the power of love and the enduring impact of a life dedicated to the service of others.

HOW YOU CAN HELP OUR TGO MAIL OPERATION RUN SMOOTHLY...

1. Please wait at least two hours from the time you receive a notice on your phone or computer that your package has arrived before coming to the post office. Here’s how it works... The truck backs up to post office, scans the packages and puts them in the office, but they don’t put the packages in the parcel lockers or place the pink slips in the box. That’s what Kathy and her team does, so that two hour time period is necessary for them to sort packages and put the notices in the boxes or the packages in the parcel lockers.

2. Empty your mailbox at least every other day. Don’t let it accumulate for more than two days. The boxes are small and if they get too full, the mail has to be put into a holding box and put on a shelf and there is very limited space. Shelf space is designated for mail that is being held Please don’t treat the post office as a storage facility.

3. Rather than calling to ask if there is a package for you, please go look for yourself. Between all the mail and packages, they don’t have time to look for everyone’s packages. There will be a key or pink slip in your box if you have a package.

4. If you are running a business out of your house and need lots of supplies, please don’t rely on our post office for your supplies. Please order them from USPS (where they are free) or other supply sites. Our post office has limited space for shipping boxes, bags and labels.

5. If you are leaving for the summer and want your mail held, please know that your mail can be held for free for 30 days. Just let the post office know you will be gone so they can collect your mail. There is a form you will need to fill out. If you want your mail forwarded, there is a small fee of $25 per month plus postage to facilitate this service.
