To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the long distance cycling race, Tour de France, and to let cycling enthusiasts in Thailand and enhance public awareness about the world famous race, GMMZ Co., Ltd. organized an imitation longdistance trip called “Road to Tour de France (Thailand)” which is the first of its kind in Thailand cycling on the RangsitNakhon Nayok road, the event was held on June 15, 2013 covering a distance of 100 kilometers. The trip was joined by over 400 participants with the starting point at the main stadium of Srinakharinwirot University, Ongkharak Campus and continued on to Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok road, and to the route leading to Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam. The cyclist with the best record received the green jersey

for “King of Speed” and the winner is Mr. Thanongsak Tharachai. For the “King of Mountain” polka dot jersey, the race was started from the entrance of Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam and raced all the way to the finish point with the winner being Mr. Kirati Sukprasat. The highlight of the event was the race of the yellow jersey which was like the grand prize in Tour de France. The race used time trial to determine the winner among the top six contestants of each category. The winner of the event for the yellow jersey is a young cyclist of 17 years old, Mr. Natthaphon Chamchat, from Lopburi.

The first Aeolian Ride in Hong Kong took place on April 28th 2013 in Tai Po The ride distance: 13 km/1.5 hours ride. The “Aeolian” ride, means “relating to or caused by wind+ride, to be carried or conveyed, to travel over a surface. In 2004, the first Aeolian Ride created by artist, Jessica Findley hoping to lift some dark residue from the traumatic violence of September 11 with a joyful and seemingly senseless act of art. The rides since 2004 have taken place in: U.S.A., Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Canada, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Japan and most recently in Hong Kong.

TERN TO TALK BIKES AT VELO-CITY Urban bike brand to talk about the benefits folding bikes bring to transport infrastructure

Urban transport specialist, Tern, will be speaking at the Velo-city conference on how folding bicycles can extend the reach of existing transport infrastructure. Velo-city is the world’s largest international conference devoted to integrating cycling with public transportation policy. “A lot of today’s transport problems can be improved by integrating folding bicycles into existing infrastructure,” stated Joshua Hon, Tern Vice President. “Many cities already have extensive train, subway, and bus networks, but coverage may not be sufficient in some areas. A folding bicycle can bridge those gaps and extend the service area of public transport by giving the user an increased range of mobility at the beginning and end of a trip.” Tern, in conjunction with the German ADFC Cycling Association and the Munich transport authority, will be giving its workshop presentation on Friday, June 14 to transportation policy makers and officials. Over 1,000 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the four-day event, which runs from June 11-14 in Vienna, Austria. Tern’s presentation was selected from a pool of 500 topics that were submitted for consideration for the conference. Tern currently works with the cities of Munich, Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Karlsruhe in Germany, as well as Italy’s national railway system, in offering folding bikes for use on public transport systems and is in discussions for starting similar programs in cities in Austria. A city with an existing transport infrastructure like Vienna would be able to benefit heavily from incorporating the use of folding bikes. FUN FACTS & TIPS by Teru Fan Phan Thae of Road Bikes For cycling race watchers, there are terms used for the different race groups: the first one is “Peloton” – a French word to call the main group of riders or a single large group of riders. If there are two large groups during a race, the leading group is called Peloton whilst the other group is called a “Bunch”. In case there is a rider or a group of riders who can lead away from the Peloton this is then called the “Breakaway Group” until the group leads the Peloton with a considerable distance, they will then be called the “Leader” or the “Leading Group”. The Leader or the Leading Group refers to the group that can lead the Peloton and leading the race at the foremost. If there is another group that can lead the Peloton, and starts chasing the Leading Group, this group will be called the “Chasing Group”. However, many times during a race, riders are scattered into smaller groups which may have a unique name such as Yellow Jersey Group which is a group of leaders in the General Classification. For the 100th Tour de France this year, even though the former champion – Bradley Wiggins – is not participating in the race, there are still many well-known, topperforming racers participating in the grand event. The favorites that 68

are most likely going to become champions are Christopher Froome from the Sky team, Alberto Contador – a former Spanish champion form 2007 and 2009 from the Saxo Bank team, and Joaquin Rodriguez – a Spanish racer from the Katusha team who has been on the podium of two grand tours last year; the second place winner of Giro d’Italia and the third winner of Vuelta a Espana. When looking at their performance: from last year until now, the three favorites really shine equally. They have won some and lost some during the year. However, Froome has an overall advantage compared to the other two. He is physically fit and has the most impressive performance. He has bagged many trophies this year. Moreover, his team is stronger than others. A main team member – Richie Porte – has also shown impressive performance and may also receive the champion title soon. Contador’s Saxo Bank team is joined by Nicolas Roche, a top-performing mountain rider. We will have to wait and see how well this player will help Contador in the race during the climbing stage. For Rodriguez, even though his team mates are not as strong as the other two favorites’ teams, he proves himself as a fighter who is strong and frequently shows off his power in

at right moments. One mistake can result in time difference and the game will most likely be unpredictable. Apart from the three favorites, the race will be joined by Cadel Evans – a former champion of 2011 from the BMC team. Andy Schleck – a former champion of 2010 from the RadioShack-Leopard team – will be making a comeback after his injury during 2012’s racing season, and Alejandro Valverde – last year’s second place winner of Vuelta from the Movistar team will also go for the Yellow Jersey. For the Green Jersey, the favorites are a British rider Mark Cavendish from the Quick Step team and Peter Sagan last year’s Green Jersey winner from the Cannondale team. Andre Griepel from the Lotto team will also go for the Green Jersey this year. In my point of view, although Cavendish’s sprint to the finish line is of top performance, Tour de France consists of many sprinting points in the route between stages. This will grant Sagan a chance to collect more points since Sagan is not only a front-row sprinter, but also a good lead and a good climber. Peter Sagan has a high tendency of winning a Green Jersey before reaching the last stage at ChampsÉlysées. For the battle for the title of King

of the Mountain this year, Pierre Rolland a French racer from the Europa car team whose specialty is climbing, is looking forward to winning a White Jersey with Red Polka Dots. He may have to surpass GC contenders since most of them are great climbers. These contenders, however; is going for

the title of General Classification Winner. Some also have to help the team leader winning the Yellow Jersey. However, if the game changes some contenders may start going after the Polka Dots Jersey too. For the King of the Mountain this year, the champion title is still open for many contenders, great climbers

who set their goal and collect points for King of the Mountain title at the beginning of the stage are more likely to receive the title. When this issue is released, we would know how accurate my prediction and analysis are. However, this fun fact and tips will definitely be useful for the next years to come.

นิทรรศการ ภาพวาดจักรยาน ผมบังเอิญไปเจองาน Digital Painting จากนิตยสารเล่มหนึง่ เล่าเรือ่ งราวเกีย่ ว กับจักรยาน บรรยากาศของภาพบวกกับ Character ที่มีกลิ่นไอสไตล์ยุโรปนิดๆ พออ่านรายละเอียดแล้วพบว่าศิลปินที่เขียนรูปเป็นคนไทย ก็เลยยิ่งสนใจและอยาก จะรูจ้ กั ผมติดตามผลงานเขาได้สกั พักหนึง่ แล้ว จนได้โอกาสดี ทีเ่ ขาได้รวบรวมงาน ชุดนี้มาจัดนิทรรศการ งานแสดงอยู่ในช่วงนี้พอดี เลยได้จังหวะเหมาะ ที่จะทำ� ความรู้จักกับเขาสักหน่อย หลังวิกฤตน้�ำ ท่วมใหญ่เมือ่ ปี 2554 มีศลิ ปินนักออกแบบ, Artist, Graphic Designer หลายท่าน ทำ�งานรณรงค์เรื่องน้ำ�ท่วมออกมาโชว์ ผลงานเป็นที่ยอมรับกันอย่างกว้าง ขวาง ไมตรี บุญกิจรุง่ ไพศาล คือ หนึง่ ในคนเหล่านัน้ หลังจากคิดแก๊กการ์ตนู น้�ำ ท่วม 3 ช่องจบออกมา แล้วมีคนสนใจนำ�ไปแชร์กันอย่างแพร่หลายในโลกโซเชี่ยล จนมีคน ของนิตยสารสุดสัปดาห์เห็นผลงาน เลยจึงได้ชักชวนให้ไปเขียนภาพประกอบลงใน นิตยสาร “เป็นแก๊กเกี่ยวกับน้�ำ ท่วม ตอนนั้นมีคนแก่ไม่ยอมทิ้งบ้าน ลูกสาวเลยมา หลอกพ่อว่าตัวเองท้อง พ่อโกรธเลยออกไปตามล่าผู้ชาย แล้วเราก็ทิ้งท้าย ให้ผู้หญิง โทรไปหาผู้ชายว่าแผนสำ�เร็จแล้ว ให้หนีไปไกลๆ ก่อน น้ำ�ลดค่อยกลับมา” หลังจากนั้นเขาเริ่มค้นหาสไตล์ของตัวเอง วาดบ่อยๆ ทำ�ไปเรื่อยๆ โดยหวังว่า สักวันจะพบสไตล์ของตัวเอง แล้วจะรวบรวมผลงานมาแสดง จนมาลงตัวพอดีกับ การได้ theme ที่อยากวาด คือ จักรยาน จึงนำ�เอา idea ทั้งหมดมาเริ่ม วาดเป็นซีรี่ย์เรื่องจักรยาน เป็นผลงานแสดงที่ชื่อว่า “Let’s Ride” ผลงานในซีรย่ี ท์ ง้ั หมดได้มาจากความรูส้ กึ และประสบการณ์สว่ นตัว เป็น moment ต่างๆ ที่เคยขี่จักรยาน ตอนเด็กๆ บ้านอยู่ต่างจังหวัด ที่สงขลา มีธรรมชาติกับสวนยาง ตอนเด็กๆ วันเสาร์อาทิตย์จะชวน เพื่อนๆ ขี่จักรยานเข้าสวนยาง ขึ้นเขื่อนไปตกปลากัน ต่อมาเรียน มหาวิทยาลัยที่เกษตรศาสตร์ ก็ได้ใช้จักรยานเสือภูเขาปั่นจากคณะ

กลับบ้าน ต่อมาได้มีโอกาสไปช่วยมิชชั่น นารี เป็นอาสาสมัครสอนภาษาอังกฤษ บ้าง สอนศาสนาบ้าง จะใส่เสื้อขาว ขี่จักรยานกันไปเป็นคู่ๆ เลยเอา moment ทีเ่ คยผูกพันธ์กบั จักรยานทัง้ หมดมาวาดภาพ จากเบือ้ งหลังทีเ่ คยเป็นคนทำ�งานเกีย่ วกับ animation มาก่อน ทำ�ให้องค์ประกอบ ของรูปเป็นการวางมุมภาพแบบมีฉากเป็น ละคร เป็นการเล่าแบบมีเรื่องราว “ในซีรี่ย์ทั้งหมดของ Let’s Ride มี เรื่องราวที่เป็นซีรี่ย์ย่อยๆ อยู่หลายเรื่อง มีเรื่องความรักผู้หญิงผู้ชาย ที่อาจจะเจอ กันแบบเฉี่ยวๆ เกือบจะเจอกันแต่ก็ไม่ได้ เจอ มีโจทย์ขน้ึ มาว่าอยากได้มมุ มองแปลกๆ ก็เลยลองเขียนภาพเกี่ยวกับภาพสะท้อน มีผชู้ ายนัง่ อยูใ่ นร้านแล้วเห็นผูห้ ญิงคนหนึง่ ขี่รถผ่านไป เป็นการเล่าเรื่องที่ท�ำ ให้น่า สนใจขึ้นมาอีกนิดนึง ในรูปเดียวกันแต่ สามารถเล่าเรื่องของสองคนได้ และอีก ภาพเป็นคนขี่จักรยานที่มีภาพสะท้อน อยู่ในน้�ำ ” ส่วนกลิ่นอาย สีสัน และบรรยากาศ ของภาพ ดูเป็นเมืองนอก ได้มาจากการทำ� ธุรกิจเกี่ยวกับการท่องเที่ยว ได้เดินทาง ไปต่างประเทศบ่อย ทำ�ให้มีโอกาสได้ เห็นบรรยากาศสวยๆ ภาพสวยๆ ของ ธรรมชาติ สถานทีท่ อ่ งเทีย่ วต่างๆ ทีส่ วยๆ เลยกลายเป็นอิทธิพลที่ได้รับมา “มีคนทักเหมือนกันว่าทำ�ไมไม่วาดให้ background เป็นสไตล์ไทยๆ แต่จริงๆ แล้ว โจทย์ผมคือ เรื่องจักรยาน อยากเขียนใน มุมมองทีด่ แู ล้วสดชืน่ รูส้ กึ อบอุน่ สบายๆ ภาพจึงออกมาแล้วรู้สึกแบบนั้น เราไม่ได้ เน้นว่าภาพที่เขียนจะเป็นที่ไหน เแค่อยาก ให้หมือนว่าถ้าเราขีเ่ ราก็อยากจะเจอบรรยากาศ แบบนี้” ความตั้งใจของคุณไมตรี ที่เขียนเรื่อง จักรยาน ปัจจัยหนึง่ ก็เพราะ เทรนด โจทย์ คือว่าถ้าไม่เขียนอะไรที่เราสนใจ ก็ต้อง เป็นสิ่งที่คนส่วนใหญ่สนใจ แล้วเทรนด์ ในช่วงที่ผ่านมานี้ จักรยก็เป็นที่พูดถึงกัน ในวงกว้าง “เริม่ ต้นวาดชิน้ แรกประมาณปลายเดือน พฤศจิกายนปีที่แล้ว (2555) รวบรวมงาน มาเรื่อยๆ จนเริ่มแสดงงานประมาณกลาง เดือนพฤษภาคม ปี 2556 รวมแล้วประมาณ

5 เดือน ตลอดช่วงนั้น กระแสจักรยาน มันค่อยๆ แรงมาเรื่อยๆ เลยมีส่วนมาก ในการเลือก theme จักรยานมาเขียน ไม่ เช่นนั้นการที่จะสื่อเรื่องที่ไกลตัวเกินไปก็ จะทำ�ให้งานไม่มีใครสนใจ ผลตอบรับงาน นี้ดีกว่าที่คาดไว้เยอะ เพราะเราหวังไว้ว่า คนที่จะมาดูผลงานของเราจะเป็นคนที่อยู่ ในแวดวงศิลปะ อย่างเดียว ตอนเปิดงาน ก็ตามปกติ มีพวกนักวาดภาพ คนในแวดวง ศิลปะ มากัน ช่วงแรกคนที่มาดูงานคือ คนที่สนใจศิลปะ แต่หลังจากนั้นมีคนขี่ จักรยานที่รู้ข่าวเข้ามาชมนิทรรศการด้วย มีบางคนมาถ่ายรูปแล้วก็แชร์ออกไป ทำ�ให้ หลายๆคนที่ขี่จักรยานแวะเข้ามา คนขี่ จักรยานเขาก็มีสังคมที่จะชวยกันแชร์ สถานที่ที่น่าปั่น สถานที่ที่น่าไป ก็เลย เป็นผลพลอยได้ให้นกั ปัน่ หลายคนทีม่ าชม นิทรรศการ ซื้องานติดมือกลับบ้านไป” งานแสดงศิลปะ นอกจากเป็นการโชว์ ผลงานของศิลปินแล้ว ยังเป็นการสร้าง แรงบันดาลใจให้ผเู้ ข้าชมได้อกี ไม่มากก็นอ้ ย แถมงานนี้เป็นการสื่อสารกับสังคมอีก ส่วนหนึ่ง ส่วนของคนรักจักรยาน พอจบ งานนีท้ จ่ี ะได้เห็นเป็นรูปธรรมอย่างแน่นอน ก็คอื จะมีคนขีจ่ กั รยานเพิม่ ขึน้ อย่างน้อย ก็อีกหนึ่งคน “ปัจจุบันไม่ค่อยได้ขี่จักรยานเท่าไหร่ แต่ตอนนี้ขาข้างหนึ่งเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องกับ วงการนีแ้ ล้ว หลายครัง้ จะมีคนมาถามเรือ่ ง ปั่นจักรยานอยู่เหมือนกัน เวลาตอบว่าไม่ ได้ขี่ สีหน้าคนถามดูจะผิดหวังนิดๆ กลายเป็นคนละพวกไป หลายๆ คนคง อยากให้คนทีว่ าดรูปธีมนี้ เป็นคนขีจ่ กั รยาน จริงๆ ก็อยากจะกลับไปขี่ ถ้าขีเ่ พือ่ โปรเจค หน้ามันก็มีโจทย์ที่น่าจะหันมาขี่ แล้วเก็บ ไว้เป็นไอเดียไว้เป็นแรงบันดาลใจในชุดต่อไป อยากให้งานที่เราทำ�ชิ้นต่อไป เกิดจาก ประสบการณ์ มากกว่าจากความรูส้ กึ เก่าๆ หรือจากจินตนาการ” กว่าหนังสือเล่มนี้จะออก งานแสดงคง จบไปแล้ว แต่ไม่เป็นไร เราหวังว่าคงจะ ได้เห็นงานดีๆ ในโปรเจคใหม่ๆ ที่จะได้ จากนักขี่จักรยานคนใหม่ ในเวลาอีกไม่ นานนัก Let’s Ride by Maitri : Solo Exhibition Art Gorillas Gallery, Lido Multiplex Siam Squre, 2nd floor. 1 DAY TRIP

From the Bangkok, the current Capital City to... Ayutthaya, the former Capital City For cyclists who have taken up cycling for a while, a 50-100 kilometer day trip should not be a problem for you all. For me this time I joined up with the Rabbitz Cycling Team on their monthly trip of which this time is the “Bangkok-Ayutthaya trip” that many people are familiar with. The Rabbitz Cycling Team wanted to organize a trip with a little bit distance then the previous trips they have taken. Most of the team’s members resides in the Thonburi area and increasing the distance of the trip was not a difficult thing to do. The trip was planned to ride in circle without repeating the same route. Most of the trips to Ayutthaya usually ends at Bang Pa In but for this trip it is extended on to Wat Yai Chai Mongkhol so the distance will increased 170 kilometers. When going on a cycling trip, most people think that it is for traveling, going to new places but there are also those cyclists who goes on a trip to test their strength and power. You can decide for yourself which goal you want when planning for a cycling trip. Try to choose a trip with a group that suits you best then the trip will be fun and exciting. My choice for joining this trip is to know that I challenge myself to make it through the entire trip...

Users Comment: At first we wanted to borrow a bike to tryout, but there is no parking space and security service for our own bike. After talking to the station staff we came across a user, so we interview him a little. “I use this service because I want to try the bike out. I saw the project and was interested in it so I want to try cycling. I tried to cycle in the outer left lane which is bicycle lane but it is still very dangerous since there are bicycles using the lane sometimes. Some roads do not have bicycle lane and it was recommended to use walking path, but in reality, you cannot use such paths. There are pedestrians and stalls, so I still have to cycle on the road anyway.” “The fee is still free however, when everything is set, the free period is only for the first 15 minutes which is not be enough. They should allow more time for the free period since I am not an expert rider. When there is a red light, I have to wait too. They said we have to stay on the outer left lane and we did, but when the light is green and there are cars that want to turn left, we cannot go. If we do not go left with them, we have to wait for another red light. So, I think there should be an extension to the free period, the 15-minute period is simply not enough.”

Next station “Ploenchit”, yep you just get off from the station on the side of Mahatun Plaza and presto you see Café Bicycle. You can park your bike outside, then enter, order and munch :) I too wander why the name of Café Bicycle so I looked into their “Facebook Page” and they have posted the answer “Many people asked us, ‘Why bicycle’? The answer...” We just simply fell in love with the word that sounds so ordinary yet convey such an extraordinary meaning. To us, bicycle symbolizes the “Simplicity, Community, and Eco-Friendliness.” The vehicle itself is human powered propelled.
