PRODUCT DESIGN

Bo-How Easy pour over coffee utensils

"Bo-How" is a set of pour over coffee gear , designed for the people who is not familiar with pour-over coffee . The purpose is to make pourover coffee easier for everyone .

14

BACKGROUND The initial objective for this assignment was "Personal cooking utensils" , which ai ms to d e si gn c ook i n g ut e n si l s f o r s in g le person. At the beginning, I first wonder "What is the meaning of cooking?".

I

found that the most enjoyable part of cooking is the process. When people co o k , t h e y n ot on l y e n j oy t h e f o o d it s e lf but also enjoy a relaxed and simple l i festy l e .

15

DESIGN GOAL

Make pour over coffee easier for amateurs . The reason for choosing pour-over coffee is that the pourover coffee represents an enjoyable and pleasant lifestyle .

16

RESEARCH

When researching pour-over coffee,I visited many baristas who specialize in coffee. We discussed the process of making pour-over coffee, exploring which part could affect the quality the most.In conclusion,We think that pouring water is the most difficult part when making a pour-over coffee, which affects quality the most.

18

IDEATION

In the early stage of ideation ,I forcus on the problems of each flow of making coffee . Then , I identified which problems were pain point and sketched for them . After few times prototyping , I determined overall details and dimensions of the entire product . Finally , I modelled for the final product by handmading and compurtermodeling .

19

Pouring Guidiance There is a level on the center top of the lid , which can guide the user when pour water .

All in one kettle Combine all the utensils like kettle , thermometers , dripper , and filter together.

Invisible spout I did not abandon the original design of kettle . Just hide the long spout into the body of the kettle.

Flexible dripper In order to change the water flow rate , There are several poles inside the dripper can be twisted at will .

PRODUCT DESIGN

FEATURE

20

Flexible dripperIn order to change flow rate at will ,there are 8 poles each connected to the both upper and lower part of the dripper . So , when the upper part is being rotated , the poles will also change its angle and rotate at the same time.

[High flow rate]

When kettle standing still , the bubble is in the center of the spirit level . When kettle is tilted and pouring , the bubble move from center to the red mark . As soon as the bubble reaches the red mark , the kettle start to emit water.

"Smart craft" is the topic of this project,so we designed "WiTH" , a set of products combining with high technology and craftsmanship. "WiTH" is designed for couples in a long distance relationship, aims to satisfy their emotional needs.

28

29

PRODUCT DESIGN

BACKGROUND "People nowadays have become more and more far away" In the past, communication of people was difficult , because of the limitation of time and distance . With the developmnet of science and technology, people nowadays are no longer limited by distance and time . But they did not get closer , they have become more unfamiliar with each other instead.

30

RESEARCH

Responsiveness

Couples in a long-distance relationship lack real contact and need more emotional communication. Acording to "attachment theory" ,there are three elements that is necessary to maintain a relationship.

Accessibility

Engagement

31

"Couple in a long distance relationship care more about the media of communications" It is more difficult for couples in long-distance relationship to have substantial interaction and response than others , so the media of communication seems to be relatively important. That is why we want to design for couples in long-distance relationship.

PROBLEM Unable to feel each other

Hard to know each other's situation

Have no one to talk to

INSIGHT "What they need is not necessarily to see each other in person but to feel like they are accompanied."

CONCEPT Transform people's image into light and shadow

34

FEATURE Light and shadowThere are many LSRs on this screen making it can senses the position of people, converts people's image into light and shadow and send it to each other, as if they were living together in a same room.

Blur by distanceThe image of the person changes with the distance between the people and the screen. As people

35

01

Turn on the system

Touch the screen for 3 seconds to turn on the system, and a calling message will be sent to the partner.

02

Response

The partner see the calling message which is a glowing spot on the screen, and touch the screen as response to open the communication, at the same time .

03

Connect to each other

After both screens have been turned on, the screens will start to sent the image of themselves to each other through WIFI.

CONCEPT Display the ambient light of the other side

40

FEATURE "SURLOCK" aims to let couple understand each other's environment. This clock can receive the information of ambient light from environment and present it on the clock, which varies with daytime, night, sunrise, iterior light ...

Day & Night In the daytime, the clock is white; at night, the clock become black.

Sunrise & Sunset At the beginning of sunset, black spreads from the short hand, and after the sunset, the clock become fully black.

Other situations On cloudy days, the brightness becomes darker; on rainy days, raindrops appear on the clock; when lights turned on at night, part of areas turn white.

CONCEPT Dandelion as a media for sending messages

SANDLI

45

PRODUCT DESIGN

FEATURE "SANDLI" is a phonograph with the image of dandelion that makes the original voice message more interesting and interactive.

During recording When recording, the light gradually spreads from the roots to the entire dandelion, symbolizing the transmission of nutrients.

Sending message Send messages by blowing dandelion. As the dandelion being blew, the light turns out, which means the message was sent successfully.

When listening The whole dandelion shakes with the ups and downs of the tone and the size of the sound, making the original voice message more interactive and fun.

Shopping

System

DOBO is the project of design method course. The objective of this assignment is to design for a specific field which is clothing shop. We used UX design method during entire proccess, caring more about people's emotions and attitudes when they go shopping.

50

OBSERVATION & INTERVIEW "People who shop alone cares more

about how other people see them." At the first observtion, we forcused on the person who shops alone, because we expected that there would be more problems to be solved when people shops alone rather than they were togethet . After observations,we interviewed the people who had encountered problems when they were shopping, and then we catergorized all the data into header cards such like desire s,habits,hates,personalities.....etc, which let us easily to create personas as our target audiences.

51

We create four personas by asking two questions that if the persona think outfits matter or not and if the persona care about how people see them.

DOBO APP When people go shopping, the APP will connect to the shopping basket in order to get the instant data of it. When they check out , the App will rank every piece of clothes in the basket.

Shopping Basket The shopping basket of this system is used to collect the clothes data and send the data to the APP immediately.

Sensor Tags on Clothes There is a sensor tags on each piece of clothes, allowing the shopping basket to identify what clothes is in the shopping basket.

58

FEATURE Reduce the time for hesitation We assume everyone has their own preference on clothes when shopping, and we divided all clothes into three groups based on the degree of preference. The second group, the "kind of like it" group, is where customers spend most time deciding whether to buy or not. Hence, our system aims to reduce the time of hesitaion in their shopping journey.

In this course, we have to design a cis system including trademarks, letterheads, and business cards for an imaginary company.I decided to design for a salad breakfast shop, and I named it as " 蔬醒 " . " 蔬醒 " in Chinese is a word combined with "vegetable" and "awaken". The concept of this company is sunny, easy, fresh, and I hope to express these concept through the design.
