5E LIFE & TIMES 5E LTD NEWSLETTER

Raj Doshi, Director, 5E Ltd

People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other talents are. - Andrew Carnegie

It is with immense pleasure,

I announce that this year 5E Ltd has once again achieved the prestigious Investors in People standard. Investors in People, managed by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, aims to raise UK prosperity and opportunity by helping to develop worldclass employment and skills.

I CAN DO IT!

I am proud to say, that they found 5E Ltd an organisation that strives to raise not just client productivity and success ratio but also the talent and skills of the staff.

‘SELF MOTIVATION’ IS THE ROAD TO SUCCESS

As an organization, we are continuously growing and expanding our portfolio of services and programmes. Client numbers in our ESOL and New Deal provisions are growing. Our Work Skills and Skills for Work programme have been immensely successful. The new Route-ways into Work programme and the Personal Best provision are helping place many clients into retail & customer service. We are also providing training for Health & Social Care and Teaching jobs and our training courses in First Aid, Food and Hygiene and Manual Handling gives just the extra that’s needed to secure a job. I’d also like to thank all clients for their feedback and support which helps us add new projects/services to achieve their goals.

1. HAVE A CAUSE There is no more powerful source of motivation than a cause you care about. Such cause can inspire you to give your best even in the face of difficulties. It can make you do impossible things. 2. HAVE A DREAM. A BIG DREAM

Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be. -Karen Ravn Having a dream is important because it’s difficult to be motivated if you don’t have anything to shoot for. Think about people who play basketball. Will they be motivated to play if there is no basket to aim at? They need a goal. Your goal is your dream.

3. BE HUNGRY

5. TAKE ONE MORE STEP

Wanting something is not enough. You must be hungry for it. Your motivation must be absolutely compelling in order to overcome obstacles that will invariably come your way. - Les Brown

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. -Winston Churchill

To be truly motivated, you need to have hunger and not just desire. Having mere desire won’t take you through difficult times since you don’t want things badly enough. In many cases, hunger makes the difference between the best performers and the mediocre ones.

When you meet obstacles along the way, there could be the tendency to quit. But this is where you can see the difference between winners and losers. Though both of them face the same difficulties, there is one thing that makes the winners different: the courage to continue. Don’t think about how many more obstacles are waiting for you. Just focus on taking the next step.

4. RUN YOUR OWN RACE

6. LET GO OF THE PAST

I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself. - Mikhail Baryshnikov You have your own race, so how other people perform is irrelevant. Comparing yourself with others is like comparing the performance of a swimmer with a runner using the same time standard. The only competitor you have is yourself. The only one you need to beat is you.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. - Ralph Waldo Emerson You might make mistakes in the past. You might disappoint others with what you did. But it’s over. It’s already in the past and there’s nothing you can do about it. Today is a new day and you have the chance to start again. Just don’t let the burden of the past stop you. Source: Life Optimizer

Want a job or change of career? Go to 5e- Alina M

y name is Alina Sutowicz. I found out about 5E Ltd from Job Centre, when I went to ask for information about any training places in our area. When I came here I started my courses which helped prepare me to pass my Literacy Level 1 and 2. After they introduced me to Job Search program

which I found very interesting and helpful. They helped me to write my CV and helped me to find out what kind of career is suitable for me, analyzing my skills and interests. I also joined Interview Techniques training which was very helpful. I found the project very interesting, people here are really friendly and are always ready to help when you need it.

Now I found a job but I will still continue my learning with Learn Direct doing IT courses. I believe it going to help me to find better job soon, which will be connected with that subject. I would recommend the project to anyone who is looking for a job or want to change their career or find out about different career options.

At 5E, I HAVE LEARNT THE FACTS OF LIFE !

“I found the project very interesting, people here are really friendly and are always ready to help you when you need it.”

The people here are so professional that after a while you realize that you too begin to think like them. - Ercan Kucukbiyik

I

came to the UK in 2006. After four years of working hard I ended up unemployed. I could have never imagined this as it happened so unexpectedly. I was devastated. Then I met the people at 5E Ltd and this was a turning point in my life. The teachers and advisors were always helpful, friendly and respectful. They are always smiling and are always willing to listen to you so you feel like a part of the family when you with them. When I was working, I never had a chance to improve my English or Numeracy skills. Then I came to 5E Ltd and got a chance to hone my English skills at their Watkin House centre and Maths skills at their Edmonton centres. The teachers here put in tremendous efforts and are willing

to always support you and go the extra step in helping you achieve your goals. I have achieved ESOL Entry 3 and Numeracy Level 2 will be will extremely helpful in my job search now. The tutors here bring out the abilities that you didn’t know exist in you. They teach us to be brave and have no fear of making mistakes because that’s how you learn. This affects the way you think about life and gives you confidence to try new career paths. The people here are so professional that after a while you realize that you too begin to think like them. 5E Ltd not just gives us theoretical information, they teach us facts of life- how to simplify complications and handle difficulties.

I have leant so much from my tutors and staff at 5E. I am now doing a work placement with a Turkish newspaper and the constant encouragement I get from the staff here has help build up my confidence which reflects at my work. I have a piece of advice for the many others like me - don’t forget that it is never too late, no matter what age you are, to learn and discover your self and what you can do to make your life better than what it was yesterday. Always trust people that are willing to teach you that in their field of expertise just like the staff at 5E. I will always be thankful to 5E for giving my life a new direction.

Nothing is impossible for the self motivated: A Mum’s Story... TULAY ASLIHAN (L) OZGUR (R)

M

y youngest one- Ozgur, 6, would often tease me saying that both he and I go to the first grade in our schools. I am in ESOL entry 1 and he in Class 1. My other child Aslihan, 7, boasts of being is in Class 2— in a higher class than I. But having completed my Entry 1 in 6 weeks I feel ecstatic. My aim was to finish Entry 1 before the Easter break so that my children and I could spend quality time together during their break. It was a challenging task but I was motivated to learn and 5E helped me achieve my goal. Now my children proudly tell everyone that their mother is very clever and she moved from Class 1 to Class 2 in just over a month. - Tulay Yigit

At

5E, the management and tutors are very motivating and helpful if you want to progress quickly in your course. They do demand that you work hard and are motivated but are willing to put in extra time and efforts to make sure you succeed in your course faster and move to the next level. I was able to complete my 15 week course in 8 weeks due to the additional exercises and individual attention and feedback given to me by my tutor. My daughter who studies drama at college told me my English has improved tremendously. I work as a self employed hairdresser and have found the course extremely useful. I have greatly improved my English skills and I’m much more confident of speaking English with my clients. - Aylan Fehim

I have been looking to move into a retail job. However my English was very weak and I was unable to get any jobs in that field. But at 5E, I was able not just to improve my speaking skills but also the extensive exercises we did in class have made me much more confident of my reading and writing skills as well. My children, aged 9 & 5, were often embarrassed of my English pronunciations and encouraged me to attend school regularly. I have completed my ESOL Entry 1 and I’m now confident to move to Entry 2. My progress has made my children very happy. - Sultan Cayir

have worked in an administrative job in Thailand before but because of my poor English speaking skills I was unable to find any job in England. I am a grandmother now and would like to learn English to communicate with not just my potential employers but also with my grandchild. I lost my self confidence because I could not speak good English and was hesitant to talk to people. At 5E, I received a lot of encouragement from my teacher who helped me progress quickly. She also insisted I take part in classroom discussions and not be afraid to make mistakes as they are the stepping stones to learning. I passed my ESOL Entry 1 exams in 6 weeks and can now call up employers for jobs and speak confidently in English. - Ploenchit Tannian

Fish Tales A little girl was watching her mother prepare a fish for dinner. Her mother cut the head and tail off the fish and then placed it into a baking pan. The little girl asked her mother why she cut the head and tail off the fish. Her mother thought for a while and then said, "I've always done it that way - that's how babicka (Czech for grandma) did it." Not satisfied with the answer, the little girl went to visit her grandma to find out why she cut the head and tail off the fish before baking it. Grandma thought for a while and replied, "I don't know. My mother always did it that way." So the little girl and the grandma went to visit great grandma to ask if she knew the answer.
