5E has been highly acclaimed for its quality services. The climate of funding is changing rapidly due to economic downturn with limited recourses being targeted at the most disadvantaged, and the competition for funds being intense. This certainly brings uncertainty in the planning processes.

5 E LTD CENTRES SELBY CENTRE

The past 10 years have been an exciting journey in terms of growth from a small local provider to medium regional provider with expansion to 6 centres in North and North East London. 5E has grown extensively and acquired specialisation from training to employment brokerage and preemployment services. I am however quiet confident that the organisation's excellent reputation of delivering its quality provision, coupled with sincerity and ‘accessibility for all’ ethos will prevail. I’m sure that as a team we will continue to fulfil our vision, mission and the company’s ethos. The success of 5E in this fast changing world is entirely credited to its staff. I would like to thank them all for the flexibility, commitment and hard work they have put in through the years.

role playing, from speaking & listening exercises to grammar and reading comprehensions. From writing personal details to emails, all our classes endeavor to teach clients how to use English in their daily life & for regular activities. Online numeracy courses and job search activities give clients the confidence and experience to use computers.

We also motivate our clients to engage in classroom discussions and debates and encourage them to speak about their cultures and traditions.

Its about building confidence and expanding horizons. Every couple of months, ESOL students explore the world beyond the classroom and put their skills to test in practical situations. Some ESOL classes went on a trip around Central London and visited some of its iconic landmarks. For many it was their first trip to central London and for others it was seeing the city in a new light.

5E LIFE & TIMES

Success is just a matter of attitude! I wanted to

get into the r e a l computer world, so I enrolled for A+ with 5E ltd. This was where the real journey began. With the expertise and skills of my Tutors at 5E, I completed the course within 6 months. I was exposed to real enterpriselevel hands on experience with the latest equipments at 5E. Soon, I moved to N+. Then I did voluntary work within the 5E IT department. The work

Next we walked along the South Bank and stopped to enjoy its sights and sounds, saw the gigantic London Eye and heard the clock strike four at Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

“Only men of strong desires get to the top, but with the help of the right people around them.” While on work placement, I progressed into the CCNA course and was constantly helped by the always available 5E staff. The job search department’s skills can not be overemphasized. I finally got a job with an international ISP called

THUS plc with a start pay of £22,000. Since then I have worked as a Network Engineer for Azzurri Communications, a Global VNO managed service provider. And now, I work as a Senior Network Analyst for a Fortune 500 company called SunGard Availability services, with earnings of up to £48,000. I really don’t know what I could have done without the help of 5E and their staff’s expertise. Only men of strong desires get to the top, but with the help of the right people around them. - Samuel

Down but NOT out! Anna Napier joined the programme centre after being on the dole for nine months. In less than three months she found a job in a Doctor’s Surgery as a part time receptionist. A beaming Napier says, “I had training on interview techniques to maximise my chance of getting the job. Without 5E I would have never got a job.” Frances Pereira, media sales executive, found hope and encouragement at 5E after she lost her job. “The advisors were very positive and pro-active. They helped find my strengths and showed me how to promote myself

for the job market.” Finally in five weeks, Pereira found a job with the Jobcentre. “I was given the time and space to work on my tests and interview notes. This helped me get through the competency interview, a first for me,” says Pereira. Andrea Franklin says, “Being unemployed can leave you unmotivated and lethargic but 5E gave me a purpose to get up and move

forward by giving me opportunities. I feel my confidence has improved and is more positive about her career options,” she says. Juliana Amanima says, “I did work experience at 5E along with various short courses such as food & hygiene and health & safety. This has improved my confidence and strengthened my CV.”

Discovering a NEW you…

Rakesh Sonigra, Manager

In September, we hosted the Discovery Event from our new centre in Edmonton Green. The 3 day event was for parents not engaged with the job centre and interested in gaining employment. Twelve single parents attended and the feedback was very positive. They took part in team work activities, learnt about the

current labour market and also received help in creating their CVs from 5E advisor Janice Henry and trainer Jeremy Coulton. It was an informative event, with guest speakers from the job centre and inspirational talks by individuals who have succeeded in sustaining employment despite being a lone parent, sometimes with significant health problems.

Discovery: Advisor Janice with Dionne

“The discovery event with its motivation sessions, goal setting and CV workshop helped build my confidence to apply for a job. I called Janice to assist me in completing the application form and now I have successfully got a interview call for next month. Although I was very excited, I was also nervous about the interview and called Janice for support. I am now attending 5E for interview techniques sessions. This has helped build my confidence to face the challenges ahead!” - Dionne Clarke

WEARING THE CONFIDENCE CROWN

“What I liked the most about Personal Best Programme was that I regained my confidence that was down due to personal circumstances. I have been selected by Wizo, a charity organization to travel with them to Israel. I will now be working with girls and help them make a success out of their lives.”

- Ronit Collis

I came to England without any idea about how to present myself nicely. I didn't know how to write a CV or a cover letter. Without 5E I would have never been able to apply successfully for the position I now hold in a charity organization. -Daisy Schubert At 5 E, they pushed me (in a good way) to make phone calls to the employers regarding my application. When I was offered an interview I was given a session on interview techniques which was really helpful. And guess what! I got the job as a delivery driver at Break Food Service in Wembley.” - Gentain Arifi My English reading and spelling has improved a lot due to the classes at 5E and I am more c o m f o r t able speaking English. I have learnt how to operate computer and look for jobs online. Employers have started replying to my applications which has made me more confident to look for jobs. Coming to 5E has made my life disciplined and productive. - Tony Impey I was a shy person who would freeze on the phone while talking to employers but at 5E I became more confident. The friendly environment here makes learning enjoyable and my English skills have improved a lot. The enthusiasm at 5E pushes you to go for the best. - Elizabeth Cowdrey
