TREASURED OLYMPIC MOMENTS

olding the Olympic torch in my hands, was a very proud moment for me and a once in a lifetime opportunity. I was very excited to watch the Olympic relay in Wood Green as it made its way to Alexander Palace. I went with my family and close friends and we had a great time. This picture will always make me remember the London Olympics fondly, after all its not everyday one gets to hold the Olympic torch!

y students were very enthusiastic to watch the torch relay when it came to Haringey/Enfield. So I took them near Southgate and we waited for the torch. The streets were lined with locals cheering for the torch bearers and as the torch passed us, the students were thrilled. Some of them bought British flags and waved while others clapped and cheered on. We were all very excited to be part of the London Olympics.

Pamela Patten, Tutor, 5E Ltd

I

have been watching the Olympics all my life on the television but this year it unfolded right before by eyes. It was amazing watching the events live – the enthusiasm increased manifolds and the adrenalin rush was incredible. I watched men’s basketball at the Olympic park in the beautiful Basketball arena next to the Olympic stadium which is gorgeous. I loved walking around the park, capturing through my camera lens the excitement of London Olympics and I must add it was SUPER!

ark Sarrou has a degree in animation yet was finding it impossible to get a job in that field. He came to 5E on the Work Programme and Mrugesh Desai was appointed his adviser. “I knew Mark was very talented. But with today’s economic condition it was difficult for him to find employment in his field. I told him that the skills he had acquired as an animator would also be apt in retail where he had more chances of finding a job,” said Mrugesh adding “He could always continue his search for his perfect job even while working.” Mark was open to this idea and worked hard his CV and interview skills for retail work. “My time here was short but very helpful. Mrugesh assisted me in updating my CV and cover letter to the highest standard,” says Mark adding that “being given opportunities such as screening for jobs led me to being hired by Sports Direct”. But it wasn’t an easy road. “My first interview wasn’t a success due to over booking, yet no one at 5E gave up on me. I was offered a second interview in which the same situation occurred. But in my third referral, I was hired by E d monton Green branch,” says a happy Mark. Mark hasn’t given up his dream of doing animation. Yet he knows it was important to first find employment and be self sufficient and he is proud of himself for doing that. And so is his adviser.

5E LTD CONTROLLED, ALTERED AND DELETED MY UNEMPLOYMENT

I

started at 5E in January 2012 after being out of job for one year. I was sent there by the Jobcentre. My first impressions were that nobody wanted to help me find a job as I was told to sit at a computer and look on the job search sites which I did. Then after half hour I was asked by a member of the Programme Centre Advisory to talk about myself. During that time the conversation was very friendly and straight way deleted my “first impression” forever. My Advisor Akshay was really helpful to me by showing me how to create a great CV, I also got training on interview techniques and help with job search.

From Client to Colleague: Shyqrie gets an ICT tutor job at 5E after being referred by her adviser Akshay

Also Akshay gave me a chance to apply what I learnt during the training about interview techniques at an interview for 5E and after this I agreed to volunteer as an ICT teacher for 5E College. All this four months work in a voluntary job in adult section was the best experience of my life such as; meeting students from all over the world. This is marvellous! After those months waiting for job the best news came “I got a job in this organization as an ICT Teacher”. Overall, the mentors -Adam and Benadette- and other staff members were very supportive and helpful. Thank you all.

Notes from the Clients Hi Paresh, A BIG THANK YOU, for all your input and professional advice into my personnel situation on sorting my job and finances. You have 100s of people that you have to deal with and to give me dedicated one to one personnel advice to suit just my needs in job finding and sorting my finances, I have greatly appreciated. Thank you again, situations happen to some people, which are sometimes unexplainable and one would never dream that the disadvantage and unexpected would happen to them, a blockage is formed. Reasons behind these disadvantages - who knows- maybe we are tested in this life, still only the strongest survives and the weak crumbles, maybe we meet people whom normally we would of never of crossed paths. But you Paresh with your knowledge and commitment have totally sorted my life so I can go forward. I wish you total success. - Ruth Harris

Nothing is Impossible! "In the end, it’s extra effort that separates a winner from second place. But winning takes a lot more that that, too. It starts with complete command of the fundamentals. Then it takes desire, determination, discipline, and self-sacrifice. And finally, it takes a great deal of love, fairness and respect for your fellow man. Put all these together, and even if you don’t win, how can you lose?" - Jesse Owens
