How a Supernova is Formed The Type 1A Supernova

Type 1a supernovas are created very rarely. A type 1a supernova is created when 2 binary stars that orbit the same point meet. One star is a carbon-oxygen white dwarf star. It will steal matter from the other binary star. When the white dwarf sucks too much matter the star will explode resulting in a supernova. This unique process is what makes the type 1a supernova rare. 1.Betelgeuse is the nearest supernova to earth at 640 light years away Did You Know?

2.If a supernova is at least one light year away, you will have one year to prepare for eminent doom.

How a Supernova is Formed The Type 2 supernova

There is also a second way a supernova can be formed. This way is more common. A Type 2 supernova occurs at the the end of a stars life. When a single star runs out of nuclear fuel It lets some mass flow to the core. Eventually, the core will get so heavy that the star cannot withstand its own gravitational force. Then, the core collapses resulting in a supernova.This happens more commonly than the type 1a. How a supernova is formed Black holes are extremely huge and pull in anything within the vicinity of 93,000,000 miles. That is the distance of the Earth from the Sun.

Keplers Supernova The First Discovery

Keplers supernova is the only supernova ever viewed in the Milky Way. Keplers supernova was first observed in Italy,1604 by an german astronomer named Johannes Kepler. He saw it while working at the imperial court of Emperor Rudolf ll. It was named Keplers nova. The first reason is because he was the first man to observe it.The second reason is because his observations tracked the nova for a year. Supernovas in the milky way are very rare! Did You Know ? Keplers Nova The Second Discovery

Keplers Nova was actually spotted twice. The second observation of keplers nova was spotted in Cassiopeia by Tycho Brahe in 1572. Since then no supernova has been viewed in the milky way. In 1987 A supernova called the S Andromeda was visible by the naked eye but it was not in the milky way, it was in a place called the Large Magellanic Cloud. It would be quite a show if another supernova happened in the milky way.

The King of Supernovas

In 2006,astronomers viewed a new kind of supernova. They said ,“ Of all the exploding stars we have ever observed this was the king among them.� They named the supernova SN 2006gy. The astronomers also said that some of the first stars in the universe was this huge. This is one of the spectacles in the universe. Life Cycle chart

The King of Supernovas

There are lots of ways astronomer think that caused this supernova. The Chandra observation team said this spectacle happened because the white dwarf star with a mass slightly bigger than our sun, exploded in a area where the hydrogen was very rich so the explosion was huge. If we were at the event the rays would be 1000 times brighter than the rays viewed on earth. Imagine how bright that is!

Glossary White Dwarf - A small very dense star that is typically the size of a planet. A white dwarf is formed when a low-mass star has exhausted all its central nuclear fuel and lost its outer layers as a planetary nebula.

Core - The central portion of the earth below the mantle, beginning at a depth of about 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles) and probably consisting of iron and nickel. It is made up of a liquid outer core and a solid inner core.

The galaxy containing the solar system; consists of millions of stars that can be seen as a diffuse band of light stretching across the night sky
