What are Introduced Species? Introduced species are a plant or animal that get introduced to a new habitat, where it is not supposed to be. Introduced species can be caused by humans releasing animals into the wild. Some introduced species can harm lots of things like kill other animals, eat crops, and hurt humans. Some animals are prolific breeders, so that means people have to kill them to stop them from taking over the ecosystem!

How do Introduced Species Get Into the Wild? Introduced species get into the wild in different ways. Some introduced species are intentionally or accidentally released pets. When people get a pet, sometimes they decide they don’t want it. They probably will release it into the wild. Sometimes pets escape out of their cages and into the wild as well. Humans sometimes bring a new animal into a country for population control of a native species, or to boost their own agriculture and fisheries. People also introduce new species so they can hunt them.

Introduced Animals Introduced animals are everywhere around the world. Some well known introduced animals are the Cane Toad, the Dromedary Camel, the Goldfish, the Monk Parakeet, and the House Gecko. The Cane Toad was introduced to control the Cane Beetles. But in this case the introduced animal got out of control because they didn’t have any predators in their new ecosystem. Then they harmed other things like crops and native species. But not all of them are bad. Some are thought to be a good introduced animal because it likes its new habitat without harming the food web. The Dromedary Camel and the Asian shore crab, are examples good introduced animals because they didn’t do a lot of harm to the food web.

How can We Help? Introduced species are everywhere around the world and sometimes they can be harmful to an ecosystem. It can be really difficult and expensive to control them or to get them out. But there are some of ways to stop the introduced species from harming ecosystems. The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) has some suggestions to stop the evasive species. One way is that we could take them out of their introduced habitat and put them in their original habitat, where they belong. Another way is that we could create monitoring systems for detecting new infestations. The NWF to working to solve the problem.

Conclusion Invasive species can be a big problem to ecosystems, but they are not always. These species get into the wild in many different ways. Some have a positive impact on ecosystems and some don’t. Some can actually be helpful. But if they are not helpful we have to get rid of them. There are organisations such as NWF that are working to help ecosystems survive. It is important to save our ecosystems.
