Sugar and Starches FUN FACT: The law in the US states that any food sold there needs a label listing sugars and other carbohydrates in one serving.

What are sugar and starches? Most of the food that we eat has sugar and starches. The foods that have starches and (other carbohydrates) provide energy. starch is in many foods such as potatoes. Simple white sugar for example gives you energy quickly. Starch is energy that lasts for a long time, because it is harder to digest. Sugar is an energy that is used up quickly.


Vitamins Vitamins don't just come from pills or gummy vitamins. They come from healthy fruits and vegetables. Vitamins are important for the body to be healthy. Foods like oranges have sugar, calories, vitamin C, and fiber that our body needs. Vitamin C keeps gums healthy and helps the body absorb iron. Vitamin D uses calcium and phosphorus that help keep your bones and teeth strong. Other vitamins include A,E,K and B complex. Vitamins are found in many different foods. Vitamins play a big part in your life so its very important to have them in your body


Fats Fats can be both a good thing and a bad thing. Fats are important for the human body. However Too much of the wrong kind of fat will damage heart and blood vessels. Fat makes membranes that surround body cells. Even your’e muscles have some fat that gives you energy. You really only need a little bit of fat, that is only about a tablespoon of vegetable oil. It isn't hard to get the amount of fat that you need. You can even eat something healthy and get that fat, all you need a salad with salad dressing on top. Even broiled meat has fat in it. Make sure you have a balance amount of fat in your daily diet.

FUN FACT: A thin layer of fat under your skin is just enough to warm your body.

Two things are needed for good health; exercise and a balanced diet. Most of the sugar foods have something called cholesterol. People should only have a small amount of sugar everyday, because when your cholesterol is high, it will lead to a heart attack. There are five main food groups:

grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, and protein. It is important to have an equal balance of each of theses food groups. Instead of having ice cream you could have frozen yogurt. Instead of having french fries you could have baked potato. People need at least 60 min of physical activity so you can be healthy. It is important to be healthy because it helps you with sports activities and helps your brain focus and function.

Glossary Blood vessels: A tube shape that carries blood through the tissues and organs. Function: For you and your brain to focus and concentrate. membranes: layer of proteins that bounds cells together.
