SLIPSTREAM FISHING RAFTS
Any day with a fly rod in hand is a good day. But what if you could float waters few boats have access to? Wade streams few anglers have stepped in? Present flies to unsuspecting fish? Picture it. Purpose-built for adventure anglers, Slipstream Rafts feature a streamlined design to eliminate catch points and high-pressure drop-stitch floors with EVA foam decking for stable footing whether you’re sighting, casting or netting a fish. The sleek fishing frame has an internally routed anchor system and optional rod-holder tubes, enhancing your on-the-water experience. Available in three sizes to suit your adventure needs, in a Slipstream raft you don’t have to picture it, you can fish it.

WELCOME
Thank you so much for joining us for the 16th Annual Flagship Film Festival! We are so happy to have you spend this time with us.
If the last few years have taught me anything, it’s that time is such a valuable commodity, and it’s essential but sometimes difficult to use wisely. We are often preoccupied with distractions, maybe even trivial ones, which can leave us with little time to spend on the things that matter most. That’s why I think it’s crucial to intentionally pursue our passions and share experiences with those dearest to us. We are honored to share this year’s program with you.
As we reflect on the past year, we are grateful to the filmmakers and their subjects who have dedicated themselves to creating the amazing films that we will showcase. We are indebted to them for traveling here to spend the festival with us, and we hope their stories will inspire you. I’d also like to thank the people of Carbondale and our volunteers for their passion and dedication to the festival. They are committed to building community and graciously welcoming visitors who leave as a part of our extended family. 5Point Film is extremely lucky to call Carbondale home.
Willie Nelson once wrote, “funny how time slips away.” It feels like we began planning for the festival only yesterday, and here we are; another year has gone by. We couldn’t do what we do without our amazing team at 5Point. If you see them, please thank them for all they’ve done to make this event so special.
We hope that you will take this opportunity to immerse yourself in the films, connect with others, and have a truly unforgettable experience. Thank you for supporting 5Point Adventure Film Festival.

FESTIVAL ARTIST
We are proud to support talented creatives, and this year is no exception. We aim to capture your heart and we think this year’s artwork does exactly that.
KESSIAH CARLBON
It was adventure that drew me here. I stumbled upon Carbondale during a year on the road with my dog, Paco. The thing I remember about my first 5Point Adventure Film Festival is holding back tears often — the stories just got me right in the heart. The artwork this year is a representation of that heart and the way that nature fills us up with wonder. Each of the five quadrants depicts a scene where we might interact with the outdoors, loosely correlating to a sequence of the five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Space. In my fine art, I work mostly in colored pencils and wood burning, and digitally I do logo design and website work. The 5Point Adventure Film Festival is a gem in our local community amplifying so many talented filmmakers, humans, and heartchanging stories. It’s a total joy and honor to create the artwork for such an excellent celebration of community, artistry, and the way that nature sets our hearts ablaze.

To Be Frank explores authenticity and surfing in Frank Paine, a 73-year-old humble local legend whose life orbits around a two-block stretch of beach. Finding The Line portrays how Chachi navigates life’s challenges in a story that highlights the importance of our connections to nature and our duty to preserve the landscapes around us.

For 10 years, Taylor Rees has used documentary filmmaking as a way to explore the ways that ecosystems, like social justice movements and conservation strategies, are as diverse and ever evolving as the flora and fauna within.
Understanding isn’t a strategy, it’s a humble learning journey of failure and of friendship. Over the course of her career, having worked intimately with marginalized and privileged communities, her ideas on how to navigate impact campaigns, and ultimately affect positive change through storytelling, have evolved.
Join Taylor for this interactive presentation on impact producing in documentary film. Plus, catch a sneak peak and some great anecdotes from her latest projects.

TOM ATTWATER
PROJECT: SILVER LINING
In the spring of 2015, Nan Condit, along with a small group of “sisters” began gathering to support each other in the aftermath of breast cancer treatment. They were brought together by the common experience of being in the trenches and trying to decipher how to move forward after the “battle”; postsurgery, post-chemo, post-radiation, post-the life that they used to know. Nan and the other cancer survivors eventually formed a Dragon Boat team called, Silver Lining. The team has grown in ways that they could have never expected and have overcome great challenges throughout their journey. These non-traditional athletes train, compete in races and share their stories of how to navigate a life during and after a breast cancer diagnosis.
SARAH HAMILTON PROJECT: DOLLY’S SONG
Dolly Chapman, quiet and petite, was looking for something important to do with her life. 32 years of building trails felt important. It was the people, it was the land, it was the accomplishment of puzzling out a blowdown and clearing a trail. As one of the first women to work on trail crew in the late 70’s, she has faced a fair share of hurdles. But the wilderness evened the playing field. Now 60, she stays connected to the Wilderness by sharpening hundreds of crosscut saws each year and as well as teaching the upcoming generation of land stewards to saw and sharpen. With it, she passes on her immense technical knowledge and deep love for the land.
KEENAN DESPLANQUES PROJECT: INVISIBLE INJURIES
In 2019, Maddie Jo Robbins was the reigning cross country MTB champion for her age, but her life changed in a second when she crashed during the World Championships in Canada and suffered a traumatic brain injury. It was obvious to Maddie and her support system this injury was severe, and yet the impact was pervasive, frustrating, and somewhat invisible to others. While Maddie began to cope with her new normal, few understood the severity. But she hasn’t let the injury overwhelm her. After she was cleared to ride, Maddie hosted an event she called ‘ Tri the Brain ‘, which is a non-competitive group triathlon around Durango, Colorado, raising awareness for brain injuries. This film will tell Maddie’s inspiring story of overcoming her brain injury to raise awareness and hope for people who are also struggling with post-concussion syndrome or traumatic brain injuries.
ADVENTURE FILMMAKERS
BENNETT RAHN PROJECT: XXL WALLS
Bennett and Andrew both thought they were the only fat people climbing when they began. They never saw themselves reflected in the media, at gyms, at the crag, or in equipment sizing - even less in technical ascents. So they have decided to do just that: climb the Nose, on Yosemite’s El Capitan and anchor themselves in a line of historical ascents. But most importantly this film aims to create a conversation around our society’s biases and definition of athleticism - it aims to be the kind of inspiration that comes from witnessing something awesome that feels possible: seeing a climber that looks less like an Olympian, and more like the average climber, doing epic things in inspiring places.
KIRK HORTON PROJECT: THE OLDE MEN OF THE MOUNTAIN
The oldest running team in the United States competes yearly in a 50-mile relay in Pennsylvania. Heck, they might even be the oldest running team in the world. But to the team’s members, their ages don’t matter - all they care about is that they can keep moving forward, physically and as friends. George Etzweiler is a 103-year old runner. 103! In addition to his yearly participation at the Mt. Washington Road Race up the Northeast’s tallest peak, George happens to be the team captain of “The Olde Men of the Mountain,” a running team that “runs” annually at the Tussey Mountainback 50-mile relay. He brings his teammates - 68, 73, 84, and 91 years old - to race every fall and see if their bodies can still put one foot in front of the other. Their shared miles before and during the race, coupled with decades long friendships, keeps them coming back year after year, to an event that seemingly keeps them young.

HELP REDUCE FOOD WASTE
Food waste is a major producer of greenhouse gases which affect climate change. Help us reduce food waste by taking these simple steps:
Plan menus carefully. Only buy what you need.
Collect unused scraps for compost. Buy “ugly” fruits and vegetables.
