Trek Across America & California

All of January Trek Across America & California are self paced programs that allow individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. The program is based on the honor system and is a year round program. There are worksheets located in a folder by the front desk at the El Segundo and Fort MacArthur Fitness Centers to keep track of your mileage. Prizes are given when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your mileage to the USA Trek but prizes will start from Amarillo, Texas. On April 20, 2017, Senate Bill 455 authored by Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), passed the Senate with bipartisan unanimous support. SB 455 allows all military families to benefit from pretransfer enrollment by clarifying that children of military parents can transfer to any school district where they will be residing, so long as they provide proof of residence within 10 days of the prescribed date of the parent’s Permanent Change of Station Orders.

Explorer Club (Ages 5-8) School Age Care (Ages 5-12)

Before and After School Program provides age-appropriate child care with quality programming, youth activities and events. Clubs, Activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are offered. Transportation to and from select schools is available. The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and development of social awareness and problem solving skills. The staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School Age Program.

Open Recreation Program Nine Plus & Teens (Ages 9-18)

This program provides recreational options for all dependents of active duty, retired military, DoD employees, and contractors living on base under a Tierra Vista lease contract. Youth must have current membership and be between 9-18 years of age. Community service programs, clubs, and classes are offered with focus on recreational activities, cognitive challenges, and team building. $30 per year

Transportation Program (Ages 9-18)

Youth Program members are eligible for transportation to and from select schools: Leland Elementary, Point Fermin Elementary, White Point Elementary, Dana Middle School, and Port of Los Angeles High School. Upon return, registered youth may enjoy our Open Recreation Program, or go directly home. $50 per week *Note: Participation in the transportation program does not automatically register youth for after school activities. Youth must be enrolled in Open Recreation and other programming separately.

Congressional Award Opportunities

The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all 14 to 23 year-olds. Infant to 12 Years of Age Before & After School Care Special Needs Weekend Availability

Individuals taking care of someone else’s children in base quarters on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week must be licensed. Residents of base housing who knowingly provide unlicensed child care are in danger of losing their base housing privileges. The care in FCC is provided in the home of individuals licensed under AFI 34-276 guidelines. These licensed child care providers must complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of orientation, be certified in CPR/First Aid, complete AF child care training modules, obtain liability insurance and have their home meet fire prevention, health and safety guidelines.
