EFMP Resource Expo starts at 8:30 a.m. | Awareness Walk/Run begins at 12 p.m. Location: Gordon Conference Center 1 and Awareness Walk/Run at Los Angeles AFB Fitness Track If you are DOD affiliate or family member with a special needs family member or a family member with a disability and want to get more resources, the EFMP Resource Expo will have plenty of resources providing program information. We will have resources such as Department of Rehabilitation, Downs Syndrome Society of LA, Dyslexia Society of Los Angeles, Regional Center, and California State Department of Disabilities. After the EFMP Resource Expo beginning at 12 p.m., all LAAFB helping agencies will kick off the Awareness Walk/Run. Wear the color of the cause that you support and put together a team to show awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Child Abuse Awareness Month, Month of the Military Child, and Autism Awareness Month. There will be a prize for the fastest male and female runner!!

She will also be speaking about how the menus have changed over the years to accommodate Healthier Lifestyles. Youth will also be learning about the mission of the Coast Guard.

Session 1: JULY 19-24 | Session 2: JULY 26-31 US Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, AL
This camp provides youth, 12-18 years of age, opportunities to explore careers as astronauts. Youth have the opportunity to select from five different Academies; see below for descriptions. Space Camp is held at the US Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, AL. Two sessions are offered: July 19-24 and July 26-31. All applicants must be age-eligible for the chosen camp on or before the first day of attendance. Please note, high school graduates are not eligible. Open Recreation Program (Ages 9-18) School Age Care 2019 (Ages 5-12) Before and After School Programs provide age-appropriate child care with quality programming, youth activities and events. Clubs, activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are offered. Transportation to and from select schools is available. The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and development of social awareness and problem solving skills. The staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School Age Program.
This program provides recreational options for all dependents of active duty, retired military, DoD employees, and contractors living on base under a Tierra Vista lease contract. Youth must have current membership and be between 9-18 years of age. Community service programs, clubs, and classes are offered with focus on recreational activities, cognitive challenges, and team building. $30.00 PER MEMBERSHIP YEAR- All memberships expire in September, regardless of when the membership was purchased.
Congressional Award Opportunities
Transportation Program (Ages 9-18) Youth Program members are eligible for transportation to and from select schools: Leland Elementary, Point Fermin Elementary, White Point Elementary, Dana Middle School and San Pedro HighSchool. Upon return, registered youth may enjoy our Open Recreation Program, or go directly home. $50 PER WEEK *Note: Participation in the transportation program does not automatically register youth for after school activities. Youth must be enrolled in Open Recreation and other programming separately.
The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all 14 to 23 year-olds. Participants earn Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Certificates & Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Medals. Did You Know?
Individuals taking care of someone else’s children in base quarters on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week must be licensed. Residents of base housing who knowingly provide unlicensed child care are in danger of losing their base housing privileges. The care in FCC is provided in the home of individuals licensed under AFI 34-144 guidelines. These licensed child care providers must complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of orientation, be certified in CPR/First Aid, complete AF child care training modules, obtain liability insurance and have their home meet fire prevention, health and safety guidelines.
